This place is great if you want to have a business breakfast (what we had). The food is nothing special: very basic buffet with normal stuff (TBH this is what you could find in any hotel buffet for breakfast). Super overpriced for what it is! However, one thing that was great is that one could talk without having to shout over each other. Tables are not next to each other like other restaurants, so you can have a good degree of privacy to talk about business. Also the music is not loud which is great when you want to concentrate on important topics on the table. And the tables are of good size so we could put a laptop, notebooks and other devices on the table. Great service too! Staff is always on top of things there. Ideal for a business breakfast, but definitely not for the food.

Standard breakfast buffet. Nothing special. It's a shame that such a grand room is used for your average breakfast buffet. Had to pay for eggs off the menu which was expensive.

It's disappointing that their is only a buffet and an extra charge for a la carte. We didn't want a full buffet breakfast and therefore paying £69 inc service for 2 people was somewhat excessive for 4 coffees, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon and a salmon bagel. Used to be a regular here before the refurb but won't be back for breakfast in a hurry!!

Saturday night around 9pm huge room very empty of people, that may be the city on a weekend I suppose. Rather cold. Service slightly over the top but thats not really a criticism. Food very average apart from a very nice amuse bouche and rather a good pudding. Cold dishes were served straight from the fridge. Wine list very expensive, over all paid far too much for an ok meal.

Been to this restaurant for a drink before but never to eat. The room is spectacular and the tables are very generously spaced meaning its not noisy and you can speak with clients/colleagues with confidence. The food and choice of wines were spectacular and the service was excellent too. The bill was fairly large by the time we had a bottle of wine and an after meal drink but well worth it in my opinion. I eat out an awful lot and was really impressed with this restaurant.

Booked here for my partners bday. We had brunch before a day out in the city. The service was fantastic and we had both buffet and off menu options. We enjoyed an unhurried meal, spending around 2 hours in the restaurant in total! The staff were attentive in bringing more tea and coffee. The buffet was delicious and the pancakes also amazing. It's pricey at £26 per head plus service charge, but worth the price tag for being in London, the service, beautiful surroundings (in an old Masonic temple) 'all you can eat' element and the tastiness of it all! Lovely for a special treat - we certainly didn't feel hungry for the rest of the day either!

My table was booked for 11:30. We got there 7 minutes late due to a train delay. As soon as my and my partner sat down, a waitress informed us theyre closing the morning buffet and the room in "15minutes". Why have an 11:30 slot, that I fail to understand. A waiter moved us next door to a far less glamorous room where they sat us next to a window overlooking a building site... The service from one of the female waiters was insulting. We couldnt leave as we booked 1901 2months in advance. A male waiter took over her role as i was extremely unsatisfied with the overall service. The male waiter was much better in terms of being more friendly and ordering the correct meal. Having poor service, we still had to pay a service charge though having horrendous service at the Lverpool St. branch in London. These are my main reasons why I wouldnt dare to reccommend 1901 to anybody.

This is a lovely 'hidden' restaurant. Not publicised from the street or well known. It is very grand inside, a beautiful large room. I believe it was the old ballroom in the old South Eastern hotel. Service is very traditional and professional. We had the Open Table set menu (2 courses for £26 with complimentary desert). Only a choice of 3 starters (one meat, one fish, one veggie) and similarly 3 main courses to choose from. But they are exquisitely presented with unusual flavour combinations. A really amazing experience. I have been here a number of times with guests and they have always been impressed and excited by the food. Wine is not cheap, with the basic house type wines still at around £30+ a bottle. Well worth a visit.

Typically, a business lunch over runs. Take into consideration the time it takes to select your order. Remove that because here you have an exquisite set lunch that includes 4 delicious dishes. The staff doesn't pressure to order a'la carte. You get your lunch. And then remove the time faffing for the bill. If you are with friends that like bills split, you don't have to spend long debating how much each as the set menu is £15. Simple. If you are with Business people and you have to pay. This was my wife's birthday dinner and we were joined by our daughter for the meal. My wife was attracted to two dishes on the starter menu and the restaurant obliged with turning the beef carpaccio into a main course for her. The menu is attractive by not being too long and complicated and the dishes served had balanced flavours. My wife had the duck terrine to start which by all accounts was delicious. My daughter had the parsnip soup, which she enjoyed and I had the lemon sole, which was light a starter as I was looking for. My daughter had the beef main course and I had the lamb, both of which were delicious. We had the Malbec from the wine list, which was good.
The ambience in the room was what I had hoped for. I am hard of hearing but a table in the corner of the room suited us fine. The decor really makes the room and the coloured glass in the cupola is a sight to behold. All in all a very agreeable environment. This is not a cheap restaurant but overall I felt it was reasonable value for money and certainly not out of line with what one is expected to pay in Central London these days. The service was quiet and efficient but also friendly, which made for a good evening. I would go again.

First the positives: fit-out and service. They've done a great job adapting the grand space to feel regal but still modern, warm and comfortable. The service was seamless and discreet, just as it should be. The by-the-glass wine selection was good. The food itself was technically strong but, taken together as a meal, too rich and heavy. They even managed to make the smoked fish amuse bouche so rich I had to reach for my water glass. Overall it was good but felt like it was trying a bit too hard to emulate Dinner by Heston to count as great.

A mid week lunch outing. The restaurant is in a beautiful setting, a huge room (the old ballroom) with a domed ceiling. We were warmly greeted and shown to a table in the central area of the room. Comfy chairs a bit low for me, but once you are in your OK. We ordered pre-lunch glasses of wine. That's what we got !!. None of the usual nibbles... a bit surprising at £15 per glass. I'd requested the a la carte in the booking. We were asked by the waiter if we wanted the rapid lunch.. I said no, the tasting menu with wine pairing. Thirty minutes later we were revisited and asked if we were ready to proceed ?. Yes, that's fine. The tasting menu please ?.
Sorry we don't serve that at lunchtime !! Oh dear, what have I let us in for ? ... anyway the headman went away, came back and said we can. Can you send us the Sommelier to discuss the wines ? sorry not on at lunchtime ... after some prompting the headman took charge and served us the wine throughout lunch. I have to say it was very enjoyable. Some memorable dishes, the fish and beef courses excellent. The wine matching was good some surprises not what you would have selected yourself but it all worked well. The wine portions were generous and we both new we had drunk "an adequate sufficiency" by the time we had finished the last glass. A very fine Madeira. On reflection a venue for a business meeting lunch. If you want the best service go in the evening.

First thing to mention is the building, wow! One of the nicest buildings I have ever eaten in. The seats and the tables offer great comfort in an amazing environment.

To add to the environment there was also a live sax player wondering around the restaurant playing and there were candles lit all over the restaurant which made it romantic. It's a great place to take your partner which is what I did.

The food is fine dining so the portions are small but very tasty and well presented.

We had 2 courses for 25 pound which was good value and they provided bread for free.

The service was a little slow and laid back but everyone was friendly and polite.

I'd highly recommend 1901, me and my girlfriend had a great night.

This really is a superb restaurant with a grand fin-de-siecle ambience. The menu is not huge but that does't matter as the quality of the British sourced food and the presentation can't be faulted. We began with cocktails prepared at the central bar and progressed to the a la carte menu. The combinations of ingredients is innovative & imaginative but not pretentious and works really well. Attention to the diners is thorough but not intrusive, and there are nice touches such as the little slates of foie gras and pineapple that arrived while we were enjoying the cocktails. It *is* expensive but you get what you pay for and it compares well with other dining venues of similar quality in the West End. Highly recommended for a special occasion.

A Real treat - Have been here on many occasions. - They alwyas serve up something unusal. They did not dissapoint.
The open-table offer was well worth £24
They even provided a pre-starter. Great selection of locally resourced seasonal food.
Cocktails were fun but not cheap.

Cocktails were definately a big item here, the bar was a focus of the tables and interesting to watch the preparation and enjoy!

The food was great, the three of us enjoyed each of our courses. The service here was the very best we experienced out of four excellant restaurants we sampled during our stay. It's a small thing I know but I do drink a lot of water and I never once had to ask to be topped up, it was only a jug of water which made it all the more commendable. We will definitely return to this very well run venue.

Thanks to all the staff in attendance, they worked well as a team, a job very well done.

I used this 1901 at Andaz for business dinner. My friend recommend me as good location in the City London and established atmosphere. We ordered various dishes, starter, main fish and meat. We enjoyed modern stylish dishes with keen edge atmosphere.

Wonderful dining experience . The building is exquisite and the dining chairs practically armchairs, and tables good distance apart. Good and service both exceptional. One of the best restaurants in
London

Booked for a 9am breakfast meeting with a v important client, meet a greet was fine, room is impressive, nice atmosphere. My clients asked for my reservation in my name and were shown to an entirely different table. I had to wonder around and ask guests if it was them, I found them about 20 mins later. Service was non existent, they gave us menus but never came back to take an order. So after waiting for 40+ mins we went to the buffet. The food selection was good (if a little over priced). After a small bowl of cereal, we were asked if we had had enough as they were starting to pack up the buffet at 10am, I said definitely not, from this point forward we were hassled through our breakfast. Sadly felt obliged to pay 12.5% service charge

Great location for a business lunch as it is a big airy quiet room with tables well spaced out. Food is good, but not great. Tries hard but doesnt fully deliver. Service excellent.

Had a delicious breakfast at the Andaz, the buffet selection is huge. Service maybe not as good as some other 5-star hotels (may be reflected in slightly lower breakfast buffet price of £24), the service was more workmanlike than attentive with too low a staff-customers ratio, but the dining room is beautiful and we enjoyed overall.

Having dined here before the experience left me disappointed. Beef starter&chocolate dessert were nice but I was very disappointed by my haddock main - the potato on which the fish was served was hard, the sauce extremely sweet (did the cook mix up sugar and salt?) and the dish lukewarm. My guest who also tasted my dish confirmed so not just question of taste. Although I complained & the Spanish waiter said he would pass this onto the chef - no follow-up. My comments were ignored. The waiter was friendly but initially forgot my order, then mixed up the dishes we had ordered&in the end the bill contained a £56 bottle of wine I had never ordered. When I queried he just said: "yes I have given you the bill of the neighbouring table".No apology.

Went with the top table offer of 2 courses plus complimentary dessert. I had the pollock as starter and pork as main. The starter was very bland, and pork had odd mixture of flavours. My guest had the beef and haddock which were somewhat better. The desserts were probably the best, but a little too sweet. Everything was beautifully presented and the service, although a little slow despite it being quite quiet, was very friendly.

Visited 1901 for lunch on Sept. 17. It wasn't as busy as the other restuarant it fronts to and that is good as it allows a reasonable conversation without the noise. Food quality is quite good on the fast lunch. I would have liked a faster waiter service this time compared to my experience on previous visits. Receptionist was quite helpful to my guest on a special request. The caramel dessert is quite tasty. I will be back.

The venue was lovely to look at abd the service was faultless. I found my food was lovely abd really enjoyed it. However my friend was vegetarian and the food options weren't that imaginative.

I would recommend a visit just do t take a vegetarian with you especially if you take the 3 course deal.

Had a family dinner here on a Friday using the toptable deal of 2 courses + dessert. I'd done this before with my wife so we knew it was good food, and the setting at Andaz 1901 is lovely.
Table was as we had reserved it (a long 10) and the food was as always lovely.
Only negative was that the starters seemed to take a very long time to come out after ordering (something in the region of 40/45 mins) which the cynic in me saw as to allow padding time to get our large group to drink through the initial bottles of wine we had ordered and to get some more - a comparison made as tables that sat down long after us had left before we even got to dessert!

Great tranquil space, lunch time on Friday was almost empty. Great wines, Squid starter over cooked but the lamb main and the apple tart dessert were both absolutely gorgeous.

Pret is always my go-to for semi-healthy and fresh lunch on the go when I am in the city. Their coffee is good, and I love their hot meatball wrap.
