Went here for Sunday lunch last weekend with high expectations due to reviews we had read and which were heightened when we passed the array of quality beef cuts being dry cured in the cabinets at the restaurant entrance. We both ordered the roast beef and were bitterly disappointed with the quality of the beef which appeared to be properly cooked but mostly inedible. We both had slices that were impossible to cut even with the steak knives supplied. The meat that we did manage to cut was mostly inedible and a couple of small sections were ok. By the time the waitress came round to enquire about our meal we had sated our appetites with potato and veg and always being reluctant to send food back we declined the offer of a roast chicken alternative. The whole point of the trip was to experience the “very best seasonal and locally sourced Scottish beef”! What a joke We were surprised that a high end “destination” restaurant would refuse to acknowledge the poor quality of the food we were served and were simply presented with our bill without comment, apology or deduction. When I expressed this surprise to the waitress she took the bill away and returned some time later with the cost of 2 glasses of wine removed and the meals still at full price, £35ea, which we paid.

Went for drinks after golf. No food (especially considering the Guardian’s scathing 9/2024 review which led to the chef leaving). Service was spotty, as the servers (probably all U. Of St. Andrews students) were busy chatting and screen watching instead of serving.

Very underwhelmed by service, and seating arrangements. Food was good. I had booked a table and had said we were celebrating our 25th Wedding anniversary when I booked. So I expected some effort from staff to possibly acknowledge this. When we were shown to our table no one offered to take our coats/jackets. We had to stuff the beside us. The table was so close to the other couple we felt like we had company with us. Not the most ideal. They were a pleasant couple fortunately as you were so close you had to speak otherwise it would have been awkward. I requested my steak be medium to well done, explaining I didn’t like too much blood. Server seemed bit non plussed by this and I felt I was being a difficult customer. We ordered celeriac which in my opinion was undercooked, very difficult to cut through. Again think server saw me as troublesome. Just felt in a restaurant of this standing the experience should have been overwhelming and the best time. Unfortunately it wasn’t, wouldn’t recommend.

Afternoon Tea for 2. This is by far one of the best afternoon teas. The surroundings were great, the views breathtaking. The staff were so attentive, and all needs catered for. The sandwiches, scones, cakes were delicious. My only tiny complaint was the English tea was too weak. We will definitely be back & 100% recommend you visit.

Bought a voucher for Sunday lunch for 2 with 2 courses and a bottle of house wine for £85. Bought voucher before I read the terrible reviews but it was lovely. We got a table with views over the sea, very relaxed, service was great and food really good. When I pointed out that I had no roast potatoes it was rectified very quickly. If it's just two of you I would ask for a table as the tables at the booth are close together and tables nearer the bar have better views than the ones in the booths which are closer to the littel practice green and no view of the sea. Voucher was really good value and it's a lovely location.

A party of 6 of us have stayed at the rusacks as part of the Christmas package. We have therefore eaten in 18 on 3 occasions over the festive period. The food on all occasions has been fantastic and we could not fault it, a very well put together package menu with everything we had being flavoursome and enjoyable and plenty of it (you often find set menu portions on the smaller side, not at 18). The views from 18 overlooking the old course and beach are phenomenal. We stayed at the marine and lawn north Berwick last year for Christmas and the one thing missing was music/entertainment on Christmas day. The Rusacks and 18 had put on some lovely chilled entertainment from a pianist in 18, and a saxophone player in their other restaurant which rounded off Christmas day nicely. Some lovely touches including a gift bag for kids on the table for Christmas to make them feel special. Service I have rated a 5. It would have been a 4 however Aheelyn on boxing day evening was phenomenal, so would have been unfair to give anything less than a 5. Other evenings including Christmas day, drinks were ordered 4 times before they arrived (a minor thing I am aware) and on the odd occasion service was on the slower side (I do however appreciate there were a few covers for Christmas day all at the same time) however boxing day evening Aheelyn was on point. Attentive, courteous, friendly, and did not miss a beat. If Aheelyn was serving every table I don't think anyone would be able to fault their visit. I would certainly recommend 18 to anyone who asked were to eat in st Andrews.

Disappointing anniversary lunch. After working in service for years in st Andrews, I’ll I heard was good things about the 18th so we decided to book for our anniversary lunch. Food was ok, the roast chicken was dry and the carrots were overpowered by fennel. Service was less than adequate. Had to retrieve our own spoons after waiting 10 minutes after getting our desserts. Then had to pay by the bar after no one coming to check on us. Then got surprised with a 50 quid corkage fee after calling in the day before and getting told it would be 10% of the bottle price. Only reason it’s not 1 star is because of the, I’m assuming manager, (tall ginger guy) who was very helpful and understanding about the situation. Do not recommend if you’re a student, we’ve had better luck elsewhere.

We visited this restaurant for the second time , the first time it was poor , but others told us it had improved. It hasn’t in my view it has gone from poor to dreadful! This restaurant can’t survive long term on the back of its vista . The prices are top end , £50 for a steak before you pay for sides , and wine that is more than tree times retail . I have no problem with this if the food is good , sadly it isn’t! My wife had monkfish which was cold , my steak was also cold , this was caused in the main by serving the food on cold plates . The peppercorn sauce also once had one peppercorn waved at it and had never met with any brandy . Our food was replaced this time on hot plates , my wife’s fish was now overcooked and like rubber , my steak was dry . In fairness they asked me how my steak was and I told them , they then brought some delicious aged ribeye , but this was at the third time of asking .’ It does show that they can produce decent food if they are interested enough . We have stayed and dined at The Marine & Lawn North Berwick on a number of occasions and it has been very good . The senior management of the group needs to get a grip of 18 before it tarnishes their reputation beyond repair . In the meantime my advice is don’t go there there are much better options available in St. Andrews !!

So many places to eat in St Andrews, may I suggest you go elsewhere. On arrival we were guided to a table for two which was very close to the next table for two in fact far too close, thank goodness there was nobody there until the last half hour. A young man showed us to our table and asked if we would like still or sparkling water. He brought the 2 bottles of water and the menus and asked if we would like bread. The bread arrived. All this is already adding up nicely on your bill. Other tables I heard were offered tap water but we didn’t get that option. The menu was very poor, in fact dreadful. The item I ordered for starters was already sold out and it was not even 1700hrs. We ordered oysters. On our last visit they came attached to the shells with the correct implement to use, a small bottle of green Tabasco, plenty of lemon and they were that memorable we expected the same. They came ready prepared with one small wedge of lemon for 6 oysters, no sauce on the side and were far from memorable. Next we ordered 2 x Ribeye steaks. One of them very undercooked. Why ask if you are not going to cook them as requested? One with a peppercorn sauce, obviously mass manufactured and not a peppercorn in sight & the other with Bernaise sauce. Skin on fries and a green salad. Fries were ok but again mass manufactured but the salad…… oh my word, what was that!!! It was limp, some of the items questionable, proper horrid! It was like clippings from the hedgerow. That’s where it ended. We weren’t prepared to risk desserts & coffee. So in a nut shell here’s what we had: 2 x bottles of water & 1 coke Bread & butter 1 x Charred broccoli starter 6x Oysters 2 x Ribeyes 1x Skin on fries 1x Green Salad Was it worth £175 …… no way on earth !

I visited with three friends , having eaten in the restaurant previously, but aware of recent poor reviews. As others have said, there were some issues with the kitchen coping with a big table but the front of house team were very proactive and explained the delay and that our wine would be taken off the bill. The food was all delicious, service a bit patchy but friendly and responsive, so all in all a positive experience.

Like many of the previous reviews we were totally underwhelmed by the experience. We were greeted at the lobby by a gentleman saying that, as there was a wedding party at the 18th restaurant, we would be unable to go there until after 7 pm. We did say we had a reservation and this was not mentioned when the hotel had phoned the day before to check we were coming. We were advised that it should be ok after all then to go straight up. We were met by a young front of house lady who appeared not to want to be there who escorted us to a very cramped table - didn’t expect to be almost ‘sharing’ our table with another two diners who were to be seated exceptionally close to us. Our server was friendly and the starter and main courser, although small portions, were tasty and well presented. Our wine was certainly not a high end wine as described on the menu. The dessert came straight from the freezer snd was very underwhelming and I’ve never had a liqueur coffee served in a standard coffee cup before. It was dark so obviously couldn’t see the five star view from the window but the decor certainly didn’t make up for it. Heavy dark wood and sitting in booths in small tables had more of a feeling of an American diner than a 5* restaurant. Most of the tables were full of golfers with woolly hats, extremely casually dressed raising the noise levels to a point where it was challenging to hear each other even in our cramped table. Certainly not the atmosphere we were expecting for a celebratory meal. Our front of house lady fetched our coats but absolutely no chat about our evening or wishing us a good evening. Whilst the food was generally good the experience was certainly not up to par.

My wife and I dined in the 18 restaurant on our anniversary in June, we were excited to try the restaurant after being unable to book a table the previous year. Initially when we first arrived, we were led to the bar by our snooty and indifferent maître d. Why is this lady employed in a front of house position when she can’t even manage a smile or any warmth with customers as they arrive is beyond me. We took a seat at the bar and the friendly barman broke from a team meeting they were having in the restaurant. It was a little odd we were admitted to the restaurant but all the staff we’re occupying the bar area having a team meeting and our barman was given disapproving looks by others when he broke away to serve us. How weird focusing on customers when your having a meeting to focus on customer service. We then took our drinks onto the balcony. The view is indeed spectacular! However, when you look past the view the balcony is badly maintained by the management. There was dirt everywhere and missing and worn chairs. As we discovered over the course of our holiday this was an ongoing theme with the Marine Troon group, great locations but terribly run and overpriced establishments. Our waiter arrived, again completely lacking in any charm. Dour, disinterested and bored I guess because they automatically at the tip at the end there’s zero incentive to make even the slightest effort. Warm, inviting service at this restaurant forget about. It wasn’t even a busy night. After some okay entrees, my steak arrived. It was huge, spectacular even! but at the price was it worth it? No way! It didn’t feel like a £115 cut of beef, not great marbling, a bit tough and frankly a bit bland, I have to say like I saw it, I’ve had way better at a quarter of the price down the local pub. Would I recommend the 18 Restaurant? For drinks at the bar yes, it has a good feel overall and one of the best views in the world of golf but as a restaurant it’s a complete meh. Overpriced and overhyped, if you transplanted this restaurant to somewhere else without the view no one would recommend it. The restaurants and bars at the Old Course Hotel are all far superior and with arguably better views. If you are a couple looking for a romantic night out I would recommend them in a heart beat over this establishment.

Waited and waited - no-one came to take our order. Asked for service and another table. Now possible. Order taken. Main course acceptable. Dessert - Baked Alaska - had not defrosted, so we had to.give up on it. All in all, a very disappointing and frustrating evening. One hand clearly doesn't know what the other is doing. The views were fantastic and that’s where it stops. Our water, drinks and orders were taken quickly. The starters came out incorrectly, my son didn’t receive his, and there was no one to question as we were properly ignored. At the dinner round, his starter came with his dinner. After we finished dinner we waited at least 30 minutes for our dirty dishes to be cleared. We were never offered any more water or drinks. Dessert came at least another 30 minutes later after we inquired. Again, no water or drinks offered as the waitress was in and out in a flash. The other tables around us were seated and finished before us. We have eaten at many restaurants in the area and the service here was in fact the worst. For a small set menu of a few items we were there 2-1/2 hours. The food was fine.

We struggled to find good quality food in St Andrews. We booked 18 after a run of poor quality meals and we were hoping for a better experience. The food was definitely the best we had in St Andrews. I had the kedgerie to start and it was lovely. Then I had steak to follow which was a bit overdone vs what I ordered but still tasty. But the service let the place down. We tried to have a drink at the bar before our meal and it was a stressful experience. One of the waiters yelled at another “why are you offering still or sparkling when you know we haven’t got any f-ing still water!!!”. And then proceeded to throw things around. We quickly asked to be moved to the table. The same waiter was almost running around the restaurant, not really the relaxing experience you want for dinner. Some of the staff are great but one or two need a bit more training. One of our sides was forgotten about and delivered towards the end of the meal, but the manager kindly took this off the bill. But again this points to where service is lacking. There was a large table of extremely loud and overly enthusiastic Americans, and the staff had done what they could to seat people further away so their experience wasn’t impacted. This was definitely appreciated. After a week in St Andrews we’d reached out limit of loud and excited Americans 😊

Disappointing! The location is fabulous and the view was stunning. We wish the experience matched it but we were disappointed on so many levels. We were handed stained paper menus to start with. The stained silverware was mismatched and glassware was cheap stock. Not what we expected in an elevated setting with higher price points. The shelf behind us was thick with dust and the fake ivy plants throughout was not covering it up. The bar didn’t have blue cheese olives for martinis, We felt rushed by the server to place our order, then ignored once we got started. Had to flag server down to order wine for dinner and then for a check. The bread was delicious. Fabulous location overlooking the 18th Green of the R&A! However our Sunday lunch was very disappointing. Drinks in the bar ok (but no dry sherry)! Our order was taken and we all ordered beef, one medium rare, one medium and one well done. Our meals arrived, medium rare ok, well done ok and the medium was very rare! The waitress took it away, then another waiter explained the beef could only served either medium rare or well done! The waitress returned with it well done! We asked for English mustard & horseradish - after 5 mins - nothing, we asked the head waiter and waited another 5 mins. Our waitress was apologetic, only french mustard available! Our group thought the beef was very tough, parsnip limp and tasteless, greens overcooked. Roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings passable. No one asked us if the food was ok.Two of us ordered dessert, they came and were just dumped on the table with two spoons & no forks. Overall, what should have been an enjoyable lunch was spoiled by shoddy service and poor food!

Our waitress was excellent, however little to no break between courses (not her fault). Then almost as soon as we said no coffee, the bill was down, no option to sit and relax and have another drink. To me, it's about the experience, not just the food, however didn't have enough time to enjoy the experience.

Referred by fellow Canadian visitors, we too had a fabulous dinner at 18 Rusacks during our visit to St. Andrews. Fabulous service and outstanding foodie experience. We had a special surprise by timing our dinner reservation with sunset that evening. Can’t wait to return again.

Definitely a five-star. The garlic butter lobster was so tender and juicy, I could eat 10 of them! Incredible view and tentative services. It is a great place to grab a drink and watch the sunset over the beautiful old course and bridge from the balcony!

We have visited the rooftop bar at Rusacks Hotel virtually every night this week for cocktails with a view. There is a real buzz about the place, and fabulous views. The staff are very friendly and a warm welcome is guaranteed. Last night we ate in the restaurant and it did not disappoint. Oysters to start with were delicious, perfect. I had lobster which was excellent. Ask for a table by the window to enjoy the view.

Very good dinner spot overlooking 17 and 18 of The Old Course. Good food. A bit too loud for my liking, but no complaints on the service. I recommend the ribeye if you like steaks. Chocolate mousse was very nice.

We had a drink in the rooftop bar today prior to having lunch in the Bridge Restaurant. The tables were dirty and the barman was surly and very unhelpful.

Die Lage ist natürlich einmalig. Die Einrichtung wirkt ein wenig out of date. Der Service war gut, das Fleisch ist auch auf einem hohen Niveau aber das vegetarische Menu ist völlig durchgefallen!

Food was excellent. Restaurant has good ambience. Some reviews mention noise but we didn’t experience that at all. Worth it for a special occasion.

Had a lovely evening food and service good but watch your credit card. Payment was taken three times and despite highlighting this no response or refund received very disappointing.

Visited in July with some high profile friends, thought we couldn’t go wrong considering the reviews. Service was 5 star but food a big let down. Orkney Scallops were over cooked, the cold staters came up far to fast so must of been pre plated. The Lemon Tart was probably the worst lemon tart I’ve ever had it was dressed up as deconstructed but was inedible. The views were stunning the bill eye watering. Would I go again NO !

This restaurant was highly recommended for me and my wife's anniversary. The view from the bar is awesome! It overlooks the 18th at the Old Course and you can stand out on the patio and cheer on the golfers. As for dinner, it was delicious but VERY loud. The restaurant is very popular for golf groups in town, so not necessarily a quiet romantic spot. Also, with the 5 star food comes 5 star prices.

A fabulous higher end dining experience, perfect for a special occasion. A happy birthday, in chocolate on a plate. Attentive but not intrusive servers. We'll be back, might plan to book early, if in high season.

Jenna, the pastry chef, is extraordinarily gifted. They passion fruit curd was irresistibly delicious paired magnificently with the best scones in the UK.

Excellent afternoon tea. We didn’t manage to get a window table but it was not a problem as you could see from most seats in the restaurant. The food and service were excellent. Would return

Fantastic views from the balcony could not be faulted. Bar area and adjoining seating areas a little untidy. Drinks as expected but why was 10% service charge added to our bill when we had to wait at the bar for drinks to be served before...

Lovely setting overlooking the old course. Wait staff seemed a bit inexperienced and not very attentive which was strange in such a high end establishment. The meat was good as was the fish but nothing memorable. A bit disappointing.

Best cakes ive ever had. So much better than the big chain bakers. Everytime I try a new cake it's better than the last one. Love when I work to this way.

Absolutely wonderful pub which always seems to be busy. Great range of beers and other drinks. No food. Dog friendly. Beautifully refurbished with top quality woodwork and quirky decor. Great toilets. Staff are friendly and helpful.

I stayed here for a week while I was working in Glenrothes. It was nice! I like small places like this with character. The double rooms are fun with high ceilings. I stayed in one of the smaller rooms in the maze of corridors! It had a nice skylight and was great value for money. It's been recently refurbished so most of the oddities that come with old buildings have been fixed. Staff was great. Food was great. Lots of good places to walk and a couple of other places to get food near by foot
