My husband and I went to one of our favourite restaurants for special occasions. My husband and I went to ‘The Old School House Restaurant’ at Weeford, a country restaurant with a nice patio and garden just thirty minutes from where we live. We arrived for dinner at 7.30 pm and was greeted by Will, we decided to have pre-dinner drinks in their lovely restaurant bar and look at the menu. I had a nice lemoncello and ice and my husband had a pint of bitter. A little while later were shown to a nice table for two in the restaurant. The restaurant itself is light, bright and warm with a lovely dining area, where we were seated on this cold crisp evening. The place was lovely and the staff were bright and welcoming, and nothing was too much for them. Holly was our waitress for the evening and she was really friendly and very professional in everything she did for us. We had the three course set dinner menu, which was very good value. We had starters, My husband and I had the Cajun & Lime King Prawn skewers with salad and a citrus mayonnaise, which was really delicious. The starter was savoury and light and just the right size to get the palate started. For our main course: My husband had Breast of Local Pheasant wrapped in pancetta with a chasseur sauce on chive mash, and a nice selection of vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, green beans and carrots). My husband said the pheasant just melted in the mouth. I had pan fried Wild Duck with charred baby lettuce, new potatoes and a red cherry and port sauce with a nice selection of vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, green beans, and carrots). The dishes arrived together and were piping hot and very creatively presented. We washed all this lovely food down with a nice chilled bottle of Rose Zinfandel wine. We had desserts: My husband had the Steamed Lemon Pudding with lemon sauce and thick creamy custard, which he said was delicious and lovely and light. I had the Chefs Home-made Tiramisu, which was really delicious and the perfect finish to my meal. Afterwards, we both finished our wonderful meal with coffees. My husband had a black coffee and I had coffee with cream and after dinner mint. The service here is wonderful and the timing is perfect one does not feel hurried and it is always a pleasure to come here.
