Prawn on the Lawn

Mildmay, Islington, >100£
07/10/2020: SEATING - Dropping in for lunch today with my girlfriend and our 3 month old daughter in a buggy, we were made to feel a bit of a nuisance when told (quite dramatically) there was only one table suitable for us to sit regardless of there being no one else in the restaurant. After some unnecessary slight moving of the table that we were designated, we sat down. I briefly switched to the same side of the table as my girlfriend, to help sort out the baby/pram and the track and trace app we were told to download, i was then quickly and again quite dramatically told I wasn’t to move from my side of the table due to COVID, all with not a soul in the restaurant.UP SELLING - Regardless of this uncomfortable start we sat down and was given a choice of still or sparkling and the waiter looked surprised when we asked for tap. We then heard what turned out to be a robotic explanation of the menu by the waiter, which included a breakdown of how many Items we should order. If opting to eat small plates (not the very expensive other options) we were told to get at least 6 and 4 sides to accompany them. This obviously seemed excessive so we opted for three of each, which turned out to be plenty for both of us. We later heard a waitress advise a customer to get between 4-6 plates and 2-4 sides which seemed more accutate.FOOD/DRINK - A lager is a can the size of a Coke and cost nearly £6. Other than that we we’re surprised to find the signature prawn on the lawn dish was basically just smashed avocado on toast with prawns. Lovely but very underwhelming and unimaginative, As were the tuna and ‘spicy potatoes’. Which had some chilli and spring onion sprinkled on and not much else. The order in which the food came out also wasn’t great, offering the prawn and tuna quickly and the Sides (bread and butter, lettuce and potatoes) quite a bit later, almost to encourage a further order.SERVICE CHARGE PRESSURE - We finished what was an overpriced but decent meal and asked for the bill. The waiter then told us about a £1 charity donation which was fine. He then made a very obvious Point of saying the service charge was not included and when we got the card machine he waited looking at us to tell him how much we wanted to pay which was very awkward and assuming. We left a tip and would’ve anyway but didn’t want to feel like we had to.In addition, the clearly priced and quite garish ‘east London’ style merchandise stuck up on the wall, felt like both an attempt to get more money out of customers and quite a leap from the very expensive menu. Will not be going back again I’m afraid. Not a nice experience.
26/09/2020: This is a gem of a restaurant. Great service and such delicious and well presented small plates. We had the prawns, seared tuna, monkfish satay, red mullet, tomato salad, mackerel, spicy potatoes and sourdough bread. Enjoyed very much sitting at counter watching the two chefs at work in the tiny kitchen. Tried a glass of sparkling rose from Padstow which was pleasing. Would love to come again. My only tips for improvement would be (1) margarita a bit watery and weak - ice to drink ratio not right! (2) restaurant could be warmer. Ladies like to wear evening tops.... I had to keep my coat on all evening.

Trattoria Sapori

Mildmay, Islington
21/09/2020: Trattoria N16 is a wonderful neighborhood spot on Newington Green. We went for brunch and can't wait to go back. The egg dishes we ordered and the coffee were delicious, and the staff was super friendly. They have great outdoor seating too! They also stock Hackney Gelato, the best gelato in London :) We would highly recommend this spot!
19/09/2020: Always an absolute pleasure - ravioli a real treat. Can’t wait to come again soon, and outside area really fab. Loved it!

Acoustic Cafe Brasserie

Mildmay, Islington
27/08/2020: Had a superb selection of starters and mezzas last Wednesday night in August, with a wonderful discount as well. The attention to distancing, masks when needed, sanitisers, etc. is very reassuring as is the superb freshness of the food...whether vegetables, seafood, lamb or luscious fruit, cheeses and desserts Plus cocktails, wine and premier coffee and teas. We've been going there for years, and it keeps getting better and better...always a different, original menu, whether for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. But perhaps what's most enjoyable is the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. They are there when needed, attentive but not intruding. Great to see, too, the variety of visitors, some of whom you may recognise from the media. Thanks Adil!
31/07/2020: Had a lovely Brunch today,I had the English breakfast, cooked to perfection and the poached Burford brown eggs were delicious. My friend had Borek also packed with flavour with a wonderful yoghurt dressing (so good I ordered a take out for later). Service was great and staff very friendly, I was impressed that they had hand sanitiser on every table and the waiters/waitresses all wore masks. Thank you Acoustic.

28/05/2020: My family and I have been using this restaurant for 5 years but more so in the last year every order is missing something and then when we ring up there aware off it but never made any plans to call and rectify it.Food quality has changed not for the good the Korma isn’t as nice as it used to be.Popadoms arrive in crumbs.Overall it’s time to depart and give another restaurant a try.
21/05/2020: Delicious food and good service. King prawn prawn biriyani is one of our favourite choices. I particularly love their naan breads too - very authentic.

26/04/2020: This is the place for authentic homemade Indian Cuisine! Fantastic customer service, very friendly and welcoming. Having eaten at many Indian Restaurants across Town, I’d say this is one of the best I’ve tried. The Pakoras well perfectly cooked along with the must have Tandoori Chicken. Very reasonably priced for an superb meal!

13/09/2020: We used to live locally & were regulars in there when it first opened in the late 1980's. We decided to go back there this week as they were well known for their vegetarian food. The logo & menu are the same & the interior hasn't changed much, although it didn't look like you could now dine al fresco. The exterior should have warned us that all was not as it used to be with gaudy posters with offers over the windows & an A board outside. The Paper Dosa main course was virtually inedible, the wrap should be crispy, this was rubbery, the filling was over spiced & it was tepid when it arrived. As the starter had been non-descript & a customer was talking so loudly my husband & I couldn't hear each other speak, we decided to pay the bill & leave. What should have been a pleasant trip down Memory Lane turned into a disaster & sadly we won't be returning.
28/07/2020: Local gem attend for years but not written review. I thought it be worth doing so as eat there yesterday for my Birthday first time since before lockdown, they have a covered garden making it feel very safe well ventilated and still keep the rain off. Server had PPE on while serving top marks for safty
