CADET WINE BAR (and food) Newington Green. Yesterday lunch we were very pleased with the sublime French flavours. The Pate en Croute was delicious indeed. 'Peach and Cucumber' and 'Beetroot with herbs' were sublime and still memorable. A quality place in all regards - atmosphere and style. Do read the FT review to get all the background. What a perfect spot for a late solo dinner on a Sunday night—a night menu London restaurants and bars are closed. Right on Newington Green, in Dalston. On a lovely summer evening in London, the scene was perfect: open doors and windows, some outdoor tables, a full inside, the late light making for a great neighborhood scene. Visitors seemed to be mostly locals, which I liked. Atmosphere is chill—a perfect wine bar, if you ask me: a tiny little kitchen, a long bar, a few tables, minimal decor. Casual and friendly service. The menu is written on a chalkboard every day. If you go late, they’ll be out of a few things. I had a delicious salad and a perfect pate en croute. Really delicious. The focus is on natural wines—just a handful of things by the glass, plus perhaps a pour of something special they happened to have opened. Everything I tried was great—focus seemed to mostly be on French wines, many from Alsace. No complaints on my rose or white; both were delicious. A lovely evening—can’t wait to return.
