SAGARDI London

Haggerston, Hackney, 20-30£
30/09/2020: My second visit here, after a spectacular group dinner about a year prior. If anything, this restaurant has gotten even better - and I was very happy to see that it was doing good business despite the corona pandemic. I hope it continues to thrive as London's meat scene would be a much poorer place without this fantastic Rubia Gallega specialist. We spent a good 5 hours here, munching through steak after steak, all cooked to perfection over the charcoal grill. We even mixed it up a bit and had some turbot, which was exceptional and deboned with great flair table-side... and not to mention the cured peppers which tasted like heavenly carpaccio!Special thanks to the hugely knowledgeable and charismatic staff who made our night absolutely legendary (and claimed to remember us from our first visit!!).
30/09/2020: Great beef, amazing wine list, friendly service. We chose 2 starters and 950 of txuleton beef. Tuna tartare was amazing! And the beef.. better than Gaucho. Would recommend!

Dishoom Shoreditch

Haggerston, Hackney, 20-30£
01/09/2020: Came here on the bank Holiday Monday, tried to get reservations for breakfast but couldn't so took the chance of maybe getting in via walk in.Came really early (I'm nocturnal) at around 9:15am.... To come to find a line like a nightclub... So naturally began to queue up.A nice girl came up to us with a tablet to take our details and told us that the wait might be around 60 mins.. Which was nice to know just to decide whether or not it was worth our time to queue up or not, as we had to go to work in a few hours.Anyway the wait was in fact about 40 minutes, which wasn't too bad.Anyway we were sat outside seeing inside must've been full, honestly didn't mind it as it was a nice day which just added to the pleasant experience.Intially there was a roof, but as we were eating the roof folded away like a convertible and it was completely silent which was pretty cool and the sun was shining on me like a sign of God.OK the food, let's get this out the way first... It is made to not offend the western pallette, which basically means not as spicy as authentic or as bold in terms of flavour.... That isn't to say it didn't taste good.We ordered kejriwal the parsi Omelette and all the cooked sides except the bacon... So essentially a vegetarian option.Tasted good, would've liked my fried eggs runny or at least be given a choice.... Arrived over cooked for my liking but still tasted decent because of the seasoning.Chilli cheese toast was nice as well.Ordered the vegan sausages (Taste like a version of Linda mcathy ones from the supermarket just a massive version of it).... Vegan black pudding was OK.... Nice novelty option there.Mushrooms good, beans good.Side note if ordering any of the breakfast sides only order 1 portion for 2 people as its a good portion... Except the beans you might wanna order 2 for 2 people. Indian chai was good, because its unlimited which I didn't know.Wish they would mention that on the menu, because my cup would magically get refilled and I'd be like I aint paying for another one lol.The service was great, warm and friendly and attentive... Left a fiver tip because she did such a great job.Minor little changes I'd like to see, have eggs as a side dish option as originally we wanted the vegan bombay, but wanted real eggs instead, but was no option for that. All in all a great little restaurant that is very pleasant and chilled.Brilliant little place to bring friends and everyone leaving happy and content.
31/08/2020: The best! Indian cuisine in London! Wow! Saturday night! Hey guys! what to say it was a fantastic experience! good vibes already from the reception as soon as the Italian guy from puglia arrived! he was very kind and professional i really like his very positive attidude! we immediately walked in after a while! for me it was the first time! in this restaurant! knowing nothing! not even the name of a sauce! we were greeted by a blonde girl who followed us to the table all evening! it was the second time I ate Indian! but eating it right there is super sublime! the appetizer was very good! the chicken was perfectly cooked! the rice had a fantastic mix of flavors! never eaten so tasty and well cooked! other than the lamb was the best! never eaten a lamb made like this! well! certainly the cooking and the quality of the products and the choice of meat makes the difference! nice job guys in the kitchen! here you see the passion and dedication! table service was well coordinated, all courses arrived on time! the tall blonde girl who followed us was able to advise us very well! from drinks, special old-fashion, special Indian beers! to main courses and finally the choice of dessert! the chocolate pudding! It's a thing! sublime! never eat something like this! then the kala khatta gorge ice! an indescribable taste something new for me! woww! what a wonderful experience at DISHOOM in shoreditch definitely! will be our favorite restaurant!Thank you guys! For all your good job! And make happy experience! John Ariza

The Clove Club

Haggerston, Hackney
04/06/2020: The short version: This is the best restaurant I have ever been. I love to eat. Food can be a horrible part of any travel, or it can make the memories of travel even sweeter. My girlfriend and I visited this restaurant three years ago and we still talk about it, still compare it to every restaurant we go, still smile with the memory of the food, the servers and the busboy. We've been to many, many great restaurants since, but none compares (others have been in the area, but not close). We didn't visit in July 2019 as stated below, but July 2017.The long version: Three years ago, my girlfriend was diagnosed with breast cancer and she would have to go through surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. I love to travel and have done so, but she had very little experience with travel of any sort. London is my go-to town for fun and a bit of adventure (but not typically for food, though that has been changing in the last ten years or so). She was allowed a break between the surgery and the chemo, so when she healed and felt well enough, we made our way to London. It was a great two weeks. We ate great food, saw great shows (the Ferryman was spectacular). It was everything I could have hoped for for the woman I love to look back on while going through the rigors of chemo to remember good times and to give her hope and strength. I did not think that our meal at the Clove Club would be the highlight of the trip, that while she was going through chemotherapy and the only thing that she could keep down was a bagel with cream cheese that she would think of the great meal we had and the great people who worked there. To start, it was not the greatest day. Some of our plans fell apart and we had a mediocre lunch, but, of course, we made the best of it. So when the time came for dinner, we were actually a bit tired and a little done in. We were met at the door by a somewhat largish gentleman who took our names before letting us in. Our very nice Matre d' directed us to our table and off we were. We ordered the tasting menu with the wine paring. Andrea, my girlfriend, was raised in Washington wine country and so has a somewhat good vocabulary when it comes to wine. I just like to drink it, but I pay attention. We did not know any of the wines on the menu at all. The sommelier was a wonderful woman who loved to talk wine. We talked about American wines and she talked about every other kind. She was nice and cheery, informative and receptive. We learned so much about the wine she was serving and she presented each one such that it felt like a brand new experience with each taste (which it was). The dinner was superb. I was, at first, skeptical. One of the first items we were served was pieces of fried chicken. I was raised in the southern part of the United States in an area known for its fried chicken. Fried chicken is easy to make, but easy to ruin and difficult to really make taste good. The fried chicken at the Clove Club was magnificent. It was not dry, but not greasy. It had a great flavor with just the right amount of spice to it. I was hooked. Every item on the menu not necessarily better than the one before, but all exceptionally good. Every item a different experience. Some an explosion of flavors, others a subtle hint. And every one paired to perfection with the wine. The funny thing is, that as good as the food was (and the food was really, really good), we talk just as much about how good all the servers were. The stand-out was, of course, the man in the bright green suit (I'm sorry, but I don't remember your name), not just because he had a bright green suit, but that he had the personality to pull off wearing a bright green suit in a serious venue. I thank you, because you put me at ease and allowed me to enjoy myself and experience everything not at 'a Michelin starred, one of the 50 best restaurants', but at a nice evening out with a fine meal and stellar company. Even the young man busing the tables was great company with a slight edge. On one plate was left a little sauce to which he asked if I wanted some bread to sop it up. I replied 'no', but that I could understand if someone wanted to lick the plate. He told me, in a nice way, that I would regret my decision, and he was absolutely right. To this day, I regret not getting that bread. Why am I writing this three years later? We recently rearranged the furniture and the menu was behind a dresser. We had such a good time recounting the whole trip and the dinner specifically, that I thought the people at the restaurant might like to know. I know that the staff probably has changed a bit, and that, to me, is too bad as we loved every one of them and had an absolutely marvelous time. Andrea is still cancer free and we are thankful for the memory of a bright spot in an otherwise dark time in our lives. Thank you.

the royal inn on the park

Victoria, Hackney
20/08/2020: Was big inside. Had a bar with staff maintenance. Had stools which were helpful. Garden was south facing. There were people and they were alright. In summary - A standard pub for a standard punter.
16/08/2020: We went to take advantage of the government's Eat Out to Help Out scheme and had a really lovely lunch. The young lady that served us was a delight and my burger was delicious. There is a great draught beer selection too and I can recommend the Vedett White which is an awesome Belgian blonde. The outside patio is lovely and roomy and a perfect spot to relax.

24/08/2020: Went with friend, totally enjoy our dinner. Food is amazing and delicious, wish we didn’t drive so can have some wine! We had sweetbread which I have never had anywhere else. It is a bit fatty taste but absolutely delicious. Portions a big, so if you don’t have very big stomach, come with friends, so you all can try more (when you see the menus, you would know why I say this, they all look delicious!)

Pub on the Park

Queensbridge, Hackney
31/08/2020: We came here in a group of 6 and the pub was very accommodating. We had a table outside on the deck and genuinely had a really great pub experience. All the staff were super friendly, great atmosphere with good tunes. It really felt like this pub nailed the covid-system. Didn’t feel overcrowded at any point but still accommodating and friendly.
15/08/2020: This pub has it all and overlooks London fields. The outdoor space is excellent. The pub has such a good vibe! The food is delicious and really good value. You MUST try their chips! Roast dinners are also a must! Normally the pub has music, dj's of a weekend and has several TV's for watching sports.

06/09/2020: Wonderful dinner treat from SJA. Starter was delicious and everyone shared. Main courses was simply delicious. Service was prompt.
24/07/2020: Please do not eat here firstly they double charged us for the masala sauce when we only ordered one! The masala sauce was terrible no flavour whatsoever, the nan bread was Burnt and so tough I couldn’t chew it and the Briyani was so tasteless! Please don’t waste your money I had to throw it in the bin!

The Breakfast Club

Haggerston, Hackney
06/09/2020: I was seated in front of the grill, naturally I watched how they made the food. As I entered I was asked if I was ‘allergic’ to anything. I ordered pancakes and noticed that the lady at the grill was cooking the pork centimetres away fromthe pancakes. At the same time using the same spatula to turn the pancakes and bacon. Regardless if she wiped it once with a towel or not. The same spatula should not be used. As my food came to me I then told the workers that I wasn’t happy with my meal as I saw how it was made. (Let me ignore how uncooked the pancakes looked). As of this the waiter guy said - he asked if I was allergic to anything. I or other Muslim eaters are not allergic to Bacon. I ended up getting my refund after refusing to have another set of pancakes made from another grill. Will never go there again. And don’t think other non-pork eaters should also go.
29/08/2020: Had breakfast here at 9.30am we booked so we would be sure of a place and I recommand if you wish to visit you do the same. The staff were friendly and it had a homely feel, if your a parent you know that children like to have their own twist to a menu The breakfast club were happy to make adjustments which was really good. The breakfast itself was nice I wouldn't give it 10/10 but I would go back and recommand. Things to bare in mind:1. Book it filled up fast (but enough care was given to stick to Social distancing rules so no need to worry)2. If your staying in the Nobu or Hart hotel it is a 4 min walk.3. I little pricey even for shoreditch breakfast for 3 (1 adult to kids) was £42.24! However they aren't small so go in hungry to get the most for your money. All in all if you have the money and the time well worth a visit.
