The best restaurants serving British food in Holt East Dorset South West

Visited this lovely pub on the fly whilst in the area. Did not disappoint! Ashley our server was amazing! Went above and beyond too with pregnant wife with allergy as well as super friendly Only wish we'd come earlier in the week so we could have visited again. Highly recommend. Steak & Ale pie was delicious as was cheesecake of the day

We were visiting a National Trust property in the area and booked the Old Inn for lunch for 4. The pub had indoor and outdoor seating, outdoors was nearly empty, well it was rather cold. Inside was packed and not a spare table. Service was good, the food was excellent, I can recommend the pork belly, & shared a knickerbocker Glory with my wife ( I have not seen that dessert on a menu in years!!!) it was good also. Not the cheapest pub , however it was worth it for the service & food.

We used to really enjoy the cafe and food at Stewarts and I hate to say this but, in my opinion, it has gone down hill a bit recently. I had what was supposed to be a smashed avocado, tomato and lettuce sandwich. The avocado was not smashed, it was sliced, hard and not very pleasant at all. There were huge slices of tomato in the sandwich which had to be taken out and eaten with a knife and fork. The fries were quite delicious though and the best thing about the meal. My husband had a ploughmans which he said was ok but the bread was very dry and it didn’t come with butter. Also the ham was very chewy. I feel that the presentation and finishing touches of the food, needs a little bit of attention.

Out for a walk and doing a recce for Sunday lunch with family. Walked in the pub and was greeted with the words "Sorry dogs not welcome". I haven't visited this pub for a few years, but never felt so unwelcome. Will go to The Old Thatch, Barley Mow or The Horns where I will be welcome.

Superb food and service. What a change from our visit last year. Such a lovely warm, clean venue with fabulous staff and food. Wonderful wine too! Highly recommend. Will return. Thank you
