We just spent a couple of days in Ballintoy and the Carrick-a-rede bar was one of the highlights. We were staying at another hotel in the town, but the food and service there were a real disappointment. We were feeling a bit annoyed, but made our way over to The Carrick-a-rede, hoping it would be better. It certainly was! We (and our dog) were made to feel exceedingly welcome by the attentive and affable barman, Niall. The bar was warm and cozy and we got a seat next to the roaring turf fire. We made friends with another couple in the bar and as you often do, found we knew people in common. So, an initially disappointing first day of the holiday turned out to be pretty good. We went in the next day for a meal and couldn't have been more pleased. My wife got the bangers and mash and I got the cod and chips - the food was excellent, and again, the service was efficient and friendly. (Both times we were in, our dog got a bowl of water). To top it off, it was far more reasonably priced than the "other place." Ballintoy is a beautiful place to visit, but make sure you top off your sight-seeing with a visit to the Carrick-a-rede bar - you won't be disappointed.

The best little port on a cold wet day. We visited Ballintoy on a typically dreary day and the cafe was so cosy warm and welcoming. Staff are wonderful, coffee was fabulous and the cakes were out of this world. Some great views too. Highly recommend!

This is the best kept secret on the North Coast. A warm welcome, friendly and professional staff, down to earth hospitality, a roaring fire, the best mussels about, and a large selection of freshly mixed cocktails, all served with good tunes to keep you company.

Ordered 2 ham and cheese toasties, Diet Coke and a tea. Rather shocked that it came to over £24!! They forgot to give me the coke and when I asked for it, it wasn’t chilled at all. Toasties arrived, in a cardboard box!! They were basically two chunks of thick bread, cooked on the outside, soggy on the inside with about an inch thick of unmelted cheap tasting cheese and barely any ham. I pulled it apart to look for ham and there was some but hardly any that constitutes selling it as a ham & cheese toastie! We both left them as we felt they were dreadful and for £9.50 each, it’s commonly known as a rip-off!

While the lunch menu is simple--sandwiches and soups--the food is fresh and tasty. The atmosphere is pleasantly quaint and the staff friendly. A respite from city and highway, right on the coastal route.
