The best restaurants in Clavering Uttlesford East of England

We visited as a family group of 7 including 2 young kids, and the staff were really helpful. The Thai food was probably the best since being in Thailand. Also they had a wider selection of vegetarian mains than most, which is great. The hosts Ananta and Sergio were very hospitable and friendly ( as were the locals in the pub) , we had a chat long after. Even though we live 20 miles away, we will be back. 😃

The area is lovely and peaceful and one of the best cafes out of the crowded town to go to. Upon my arrival the owner of the cafe was very friendly and accommodating and greeted us very kindly which some workers have bothered doing. The cafe interior is very nice especially on the left part of the cafe where the kitchen is and I really love the fact there’s a divided part as if one part is too busy I could always go to the other side of the cafe.

My husband and I had a really lovely stay at the Cricketers. The pub itself was full of character, our room was clean, well-appointed and very comfortable, the staff were welcoming and friendly and the food was excellent. Thank you for a wonderful time!

We've driven past this place so many times but not visited until a recent Saturday evening. The buildings and rooms are well maintained and nicely decorated and, as has been said previously, the place is immaculate. We often pass comment on a pub when we see how the gardens/outdoor spaces are maintained and we would say that this is one of the best that we have seen ...other pubs should take not on how it should be done. It looks like a great place to visit and sit outside in summer. The overall impression is a casual pub with a relaxed atmosphere. The evening we visited it wasn't overly busy but I think that people are missing out on a well run pub. There is an attractive bar and plenty of seating if you want just to have a drink or if you are stopping for a meal. We wanted just a simple, medium price meal and were very pleased with what we got - we had viewed the menu online from home. We shared a starter and then had one pizza (very nice) and one burger (the very tasty burger patty and chips were way better than average) - both were excellent and the portions were ample. We both managed to squeeze in a desert too. All of the food (that should have been hot) was piping hot. For drinks, the Merlot was one of the better examples I have had in a pub for a long time. We thought that we got good value for money which is a tricky thing to find these days. We had a nice welcome and the bar/waiting team were friendly and efficient. We'll definitely visit again. Superb Thai meal. Service was very good indeed, young staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. Food was excellent, fresh and good portions. Good value for money. We could not have enjoyed the experience more. We will be back.
