The best restaurants in Clavering Uttlesford East of England

Set in the middle of a beautiful small village this lovely traditional pub now serving only Thia food. The pub has three separate eating areas inside and tables and benches outiside to the front. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Their menu is interesting with specials on the board with reasonable pricing.

Having enjoyed several visits here in the past, sadly I shall not be returning. Whilst waiting for my friend to arrive the owner confronted me in the middle of the cafe as he said I shouldn't be parked where I was and that I had run over one of his cones in the car park (I had spoken to a member of staff on arrival who told me he didn't know what the cones were there for and I was fine to park there) I offered to pay for the damaged cones and he said quite aggressively "no, just move your car". I felt very humiliated, especially as I was on my own and this was in front of other customers. Needless to say I moved my car and went elsewhere.

A good range of tasty wholesome pub food available. Ambience attractive but let down by poor service. It wasn’t that there wasn’t enough staff it was the fact that they decided to use the venue as a social occasion ignoring the customers.

I have to let it be known that this little gem of a pub is not only one of the prettiest interiors of any (of many!) pubs that we go to - it's beautifully decorated, it is also one of the cleanest, with staff being super quick to clean tables and seating areas as people come and go, which is no mean feat given that they are very welcoming of canine companions and that they are pub surrounded by many beautiful walkways. I've never seen it look for one moment anything short of spotless. I've been taking my weim pup to this pub since last Summer and they've seen her go through the stages of too cute to 'complete and utter 'two and a half handful' where I've had to put all my efforts in to managing her (she is 100% typical of her breed!), they might they have been so patient, calm and lovely to her and us. We have visited the Crown and Thistle a number of times and always enjoyed it. Last night it really exceptional: all 5 of us chose different dishes and they were all absolutely delicious. We shared green beans, also fantasticly cooked to perfection. The service was superb and friendly. We all thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
