ZUMU Sushi & Robatayaki in Trafford

In general meal here was okay and the sushi ordered was tasty and fresh. Sadly as the restaurant was cold and a few dishes were overpriced for the size it’s not somewhere we’d return to.

I placed an order using the app following an advert in a neighbouring establishment. When my order failed to arrive after nearly an hour I visited the restaurant to be told the app was not working and the money that had been takes would be reimbursed in 24 hours . The restaurant informed me that the app wasn’t working and I should have realised this but that they take the money anyway ..:. Strange and suspicious . I would advise to avoid using the app and avoid the restaurant altogether

I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant as it looked really nice inside. It’s never that busy and I can now see why. Don’t get me wrong the taste of the food is nice but the portions are tiny and so overpriced! For example 6 small prawns (I thought they were going to be big but they were tiny) was £11. We ended up spending £50 on food between 2 of us and had to buy food from somewhere else afterwards because it just wasn’t enough. The manager woman was nice and seemed very rushed off her feet, however there was 2 other staff that were basically not doing much at all despite quite a few tables asking for service. The woman that served us couldn’t speak any English and couldn’t even take my order so I had to wait for the busy manager to do so, despite only reading out items on the menu. And to make it better, they had a teenage boy constantly changing the music behind the bar, connecting it to his own music and messing about with the volume (changing it from really loud to quiet) which made it hard to have a conversation. Had to pay a £5 mandatory service charge at the end which I felt robbed as the service was actually quite poor. The way they’re operating the restaurant I don’t think they’ll last much longer, which is a shame because a good Japanese restaurant would do well in Hale. The sushi in my photo costed £10 by the way.

We booked online but they couldn’t find our booking on arrival. Showed them the email confirmation. Seated with no drinks menu. Only my friends starter arrived, mine arrived a good time later. I ordered the ramen only for it to arrive with no egg and no vegetables. I went to look for a waiter, they then took it away and came back to say they didn’t have ingredients left to make it!!!! (So why let me order it and why serve it?!?) so told to pick something else off the menu, by now my friend had nearly finished her food. They was no discount on the bill to apologise. Not somewhere I would return. Shame as it’s one of our favourite restaurants over in knutsford.

Me and my partner often come for dinner at kampai and it’s always wonderful. The food is great, cocktails are great and the service from the manager Toni is always perfect. He really goes the extra mile to make it a special evening and we always look forward to coming back. Even when the restaurant is full he still takes the time to stop and talk to everyone making the experience a little more personal, thanks everyone!

Hey I wanted to tell you how brilliant the service and the food is! We came for the second time on Friday and have been so looking forward to coming back. Firstly because of the service Dan and Luigi (managers) were welcoming and friendly and happy to seat us in our preferred spot! The bar man spoke passionately about the whiskeys they had. The food is outstanding I love sushi and each time we have been the food doesn’t take long to come out but it’s so fresh so tasty and I can’t wait to go back again! We went for lunch, my wife is a big sushi fan and she rates this the best she has tasted in Manchester. Everything we had was super fresh and authentic. I had katsu curry which was also very tasty.

we ordered a sushi platter to share and it was all very delicious - after this we got greedy and ordered another roll and it was awful - over cooked and hard - chewy beef - I asked for some mayo to add some moisture it up but I'm sure they gave me a type of tahini. Would of got 5 if it wasn't for that beef roll - the duck gayoza is amazing and that is why I feel I could not of given it less that 4 starts.

I will start by saying that our visit was during the 'eat out to help out' scheme period and so we came expecting things to be a bit slower than normal as we understand how busy places are, but still didn't expect the service to be as poor as it was.We arrived a few minutes early for an 8:30pm meal time. We were seated about 8:45pm which wasn't ideal but not the end of the world.Apologies were given for the time taken to seat us (the staff themselves were friendly throughout) and our order (a mixture of sushi and hot food) and two drinks was taken relatively quickly.It took around 20 minutes for our food to start appearing. Two of the hot items (prawn tempura and gyazo) arrived first, followed promptly by a chicken katsu curry. The problem here was two fold. Firstly the remainder of the food didn't' arrive for a further 15 minutes, meaning one of our party had essentially finished eating when the rest of the food arrived. Secondly we still hadn't received our drinks at this point, and it would be a further 10 minutes until we did (half an hour after they were ordered).The last of the hot items and the sushi eventually arrived and the food itself was to a high standard.After finishing and eventually having our plates cleared (which we had stacked to make it clear we were finished and still took again around 15 minutes to be taken away) we then tried to get the attention of a member of staff for the bill. -Another- 15 minutes later we got hold of a member of staff and requested the bill (we were laughing by the end of this period because we genuinely couldn't believe how hard it was to get someone to get us the bill).The bill itself included a £19.05 reduction for the 'eat out to help out' scheme discount (which should have been £20) however the restaurant had decided to make some kind of tax calculation on the discount which resulted in the customer getting less discount than they should (but £20 goes through the till from the scheme so essentially the restaurant is making an extra £1 per person visiting the restaurant using the scheme). I wouldn't usually have questioned a £1 issue with the bill, but with the serice we had we decided we would (and we had to talk to the waitress for several minutes before she would relent and correct the discount).The bar tender working on the evening caught us as we were leaving as we hadn't had a shot (refreshing alcoholic mango drink) which he prepared for us (and is the reason this review is 3/5 instead of 2/5.We didn't have a terrible time, but we wont be rushing back.

Booked for dinner after reading all the great reviews but quite underwhelmed by the food. The fish was fresh and the presentation nice but the taste was fairly average and very expensive for what it was. We had a beef noodle dish which was very small portion and bland for around £14, not great. Staff were nice enough but again average service which we can’t complain about but the restaurant does add on 12.5% service charge which was rather hefty and would expect more on the service front to deserve that. Overall wouldn’t recommend, as the food is not as good as other Japanese restaurants in the Northwest and although sushi is always pricey we didn’t feel the dishes were good value for money here.

We came out to pick up a takeaway after reading some great reviews of the food here and feeling like a bit of a road trip as we needed to escape the house! The food definitely lived up to our expectations, very glad we came.There seemed to be a bit of a problem with our takeaway order (placed online), as they couldn't see that we had already paid for it. They were so helpful though, so it wasn't a problem. We also realised after we left one of the dishes had changed, but what we had been given instead was great so I ate it happily! If we lived closer I'm sure we would eat here all the time.

Been ordering Deliveroos with them for past couple of months and also been there in person. Food is amazing tasty, fresh and made to order. The lobster special this visit was exceptional. Staff is always overly accommodating and friendly, making you feel so comfortable dining in. Absolutely worth the money and probably the best sushi in the area.

It was my and my girlfriend’s only second visit at the Kampai and we totally loved it there. The food is excellent, chefs are doing an amazing work, keep it up! I don't ever write reviews but I felt that I needed to for this place as they deserve to hear it. The have the best sushi I have ever had, fantastic quality of the food and drinks. The service is second to none, very welcoming and homely and remembered us from last time. They were very accommodating to any requests and went above and beyond with their service and even surprised us with a card and flowers as it was a special occasion. Extremely professional, even during Covid times with paper disposable menus, hand gel on every table, social distancing etc. I can't wait to go again. My favourite dish is the Kampai Special, its a must try! Special thanks to Federica and Luca who made our day!

Yesterday was my first time having sushi ever and I had picked this sushi restaurant as I thought it looked great! The waitress was extremely polite and the manager was also extremely polite and easy to talk to. The setting was amazing with nice acoustic music playing throughout my time being there. Initially, me and my partner ordered lobster but due to the pandemic the delivery of lobsters had not arrived and that was understandable. After eating sushi we tried the Mochi dessert which was absolutely amazing! I recommend the coconut Mochi as a great way to end your meal! Thank you once again to the waitress and manager/owner for the hospitality and me and my partner will be going again in the near future for sure!

Amazing takeaway here, food was fresh and high quality. I recommend the steamed Gyoza and they do a good selection of vegetarian too.

After craving sushi for most of lockdown, I have driven over to Kampai today (1 1/2 hour round trip) to order Sushi for collection. It was absolutely incredible!! Delicious, presentation was unreal and staff were so friendly. The restaurant looked so nice too, I look forward to trying the restaurant out once the world returns to normal! We ordered a takeaway. Arrived 40 minutes later then promised and the hot food was cold. When we rang up, they couldn’t give and answer to why it was late or apologise, but they were just arrogant by saying we are busy. We ordered the chicken Katsu curry and they gave the tiniest amount of sauce with it. When this was called Zumu it was much better and use to order from there weekly and it was great. Not sure if it’s the same owner but changed the company name for tactical reason, or if it’s different owners, but first experience on Kampai is that it’s not worth it, considering all the other options there are in Hale.

We ordered a take away last night, 7.15pm we were told would arrive at 8pm given it was a Friday we didn’t mind it being a bit late, but when it got to 8.40 I chased up our takeout. They had taken the money, but the order had been lost ! They had no recollection of order I ordered everything from their own website ! We re ordered the meal again, and again I rang to chased our food at 9.30 the meal arrived at 10.15 !!! We said we were not happy they gave us a credit of 20%discount for next time ... we said we would like a meal free after all the delays and phone calls etc they were supposed to call today for a phone conversation..nobody has been in touch !!!! My daughter ordered the Tempura prawn ramen it arrived gloopy and the prawns were sloppy it was disgusting and made us feel physically sick, sloppy prawns we had to throw it away, it had the most vile smell ! the whole meal was awful, service was terrible. Such a disappointment. We have never visited the restaurant before or had a takeout from here and were looking forward it.

Had a mixed platter takeaway for the first time. Absolutel bloody fantastic! The flavours of everything was beautiful. Looking forward to dining out here in the future. I would recommend for anyone. Definitely a must go to. Thank you, we will definitely be back and with friends and family.

We ordered a variety of cold sushi and hot starters and sides and everything was delicious! The service was great, restaurant clean and smart and the food came within 15 mins. Everything was prepared fresh and tasted as good as the next dish. Can’t recommend it enough.

An exceptional fine dining experience. My husband and I have been coming here for over a year and the food is always outstanding. The sushi is fresh and beautifully presented as are the cocktails!! Luca goes out of his way to personally ensure you receive exceptional service and every member of his team go out of their way to make you feel valued. You won’t find better sushi anywhere or a bigger welcome. Highly recommend.

My husband and I booked for a late dinner on Valentine's Day. After being disappointed by the lack of good sushi places in and around Manchester, we didn't really know what to expect and whether it would be authentic or not. Thankfully, the sushi was delicious and one of the best we have tasted and presented nicely (and we are quite picky!). Everything was fresh and tasty. The highlight was Luca - as soon as we walked through the door he always gave a warm smile and never faltered despite being busy and rushed off his feet! At the end he gave us a tasty tropical shot which finished the night perfectly. Thank you team Zumu for a lovely V day dinner, we will be back again :)

I went on Valentines Day with a friend I have known for many years and the service from the two front of house staff, an Italian gentleman and Italian young lady, was perfect in this great Japanese restaurant. Their attentiveness and genuine joy and care was utterly delightful. The Miso soup was perfect, the Spyder and Hale specials, divine and the Soave wine perfect. At the end they gave us free cocktails which were absolutely delicious. It is a perfect restaurant and there two members of staff who served us and showed happiness and delight, as well as the chefs, performed to the highest standard. Unreserved recommendation.

A very quaint, small restaurant. We only popped in for a couple cocktails and were greeted by Luca, very passionate, friendly and welcoming. He offered us some sushi rolls which is due to come out on the new menu.. and it was nothing short of amazing! You have definitely made a great choice with choosing Luca as your manager and your new choices for the menu! Very excited to come back and see the new restaurant! Our daughter chose Zumu for her birthday lunch as she'd heard good things and is a fan of Japanese food. So we booked in for a mid-week lunch.

Been to zumu many times now, service is always brilliant and food is extremely tasty! The menu has a wide range of food to choose from and something for everyone. Very polite staff too. Takeaway is also very well done. Would definitely recommend!

Visited this restaurant mid week in January 2020. Food has always been excellent but this has now been matched by excellent service and surroundings. Very impressed that they’ve listened to past criticisms concerning takeaways and have acted to improve their offering. A first class experience now highly recommended

Ended up here by accident last night and were very impressed by both the friendly staff and excellent sushi. Would recommend the tender stem broccoli side, salmon sashimi and the crunch sushi roll. Our waitress was very accommodating and gave us a complimentary shot at the end! All reasonably priced too :)

Last minute post Christmas pre-New Year meal. Decided to go for a a few different dishes this time and again we weren't disappointed. The staff were very friendly and attentive. It is quite a small restaurant and has a nice feel to it, although I do prefer sitting in one of the booths. As we were early evening the restaurant was fairly quiet and the two of us were seated in a booth...nice touch. Seven dishes between the two of us and plenty of Asahi to wash the food down. Even so the bill came to just £74.15 which I think is really good value for the quality of the food dished up. We have already been back since and will be visiting again before the end of the month. Thoroughly recommend Zumu.

My evening was made delightful calming and one to remember fantastic hosting by the Lady in charge the presentation of all the food was elegant and unique, the food was delicious and nice portion the dessert was splendid I think it was Mochi. Certainly will revisit.

I have been with a group of friends at Zumu Sushi and Robatayaki Restaurant for the New Years's Eve, the restaurant was busy and we found an amazing atmosphere. We started with cocktails which were amazing and with a touch of a different creativity from the barman, we had the opportunity to taste different courses as we were mostly sharing, and all the food was great. Service was attentive, polite, and very friendly.

I’ve been there with friends to celebrate New Year’s Eve. The restaurant has a soft and relax atmosphere and you can feel home and comfortable since the first moment inside! The dishes presentation and the food quality are very high, fresh ingredients and toppings, attention for details and many options for all the taste and needs. The service is excellent and the staff is very friendly and dedicated! Zumu is the perfect place to spend some good time if you are alone, or with friends or in a romantic date !

From the moment Luka the owner greets you to the moment you leave this place is tremendous. The sushi is fresh and imaginative, the Katsu curry and the dumplings are flavorful and light. Service is on point and Hale needed a great take on Japanese food. Highly recommend!

There is a genuine sense of pride that is shared by all of the staff and they aim for perfection in a gentle atmosphere that suits couples, friends, families and solo and business diners. Each chef adds a touch of creative individuality to the dishes that are always top drawer. The food is healthy and delicious and has that perfect balance ensuring one is well feasted but not heavy and full. Service is watchful and responsive but not pushy and intrusive and I have lunched there with several friends and they have adored it too. It is world class Japanese food and as goof as anything I ate in Tokyo.

My wife and I Ordered the tasting menu, sushi and calamari were excellent, as was the tofu Katsu curry (for my son) but the salmon was half cooked and rib-eye over cooked. Also ran out of some alcohol so couldn’t make a cocktail that I wanted. Service was ok staff lovely. So disappointed even though they refunded the cost of the tasting meals. Birthday spoilt

Ordered a takeaway from Zumo which was a prawn crunch roll, tuna sashimi and salt & pepper squid. Absolutely delicious bit pricey for a takeaway but worth every penny

Food looks and smells good but is not only about the presentation, is all about the taste. The food tasted very tasty and delicious i cant fault it in anyway, compliment to the chef’s. The service were ace been looked after by Tam and Vicky 5 Star overall. I would definitely recommend Zumu to my friends and family. And definitely coming back soon.

We spent two and a half hours with no pressure. Food perfect in flavour and presentation. Service excellent and unhurried and lovely calm atmosphere. I have dined in Tokyo and this a match and there is gentle help for those for whom Japanese food is a new adventure try it and you will not be disappointed.

There are such places like Yo! Sushi which is very commercial when this is very different and delicious. Here everything is fresh an even though it might be a bit pricy its definitely worth it

We loved our dinner at Zumu. The service and food were great. After 6 there is a car park on Cecil Road which is free after 6. We highly recommend it.

We came on a weekday evening. It wasn’t at all busy, only 2 other tables, but the service was so slow. Thankfully the food made up for it. Maybe a little overpriced though...
