Superb cosy Chinese restuaraunt. Choice of food was really good and the food when it arrived was plentiful and delicious. The couple that run this restuarant just couldn't do enough for you. Highly recomended. Perfect for couples and families.

I used to come here years ago but it then closed. It's a pity because I always had a good meal with excellent service. Generally it was very busy. A few nights ago a group of us returned to check it out for the first time since it reopened. The food was just about OK but no more. The quantity was fine but it was difficult to tell one dish from another. I just found it all a bit tasteless. As for the service, there was a young woman on her own dealing with the front desk, clearing tables and serving food. She was literally running from table to table. It does not make for a relaxing evening. They desperately need an additional waitress/waiter.

I hadn’t been to the Zing Vaa for a number of years but I won some vouchers in a raffle. I was not disappointed. The service was impeccable and the restaurant was very cosy and nice compared with my last visit. I had the hot and sour soup for a starter which is probably the best I have ever had. I followed this with the Wandering Dragon. There was plenty and had to take some home in a doggy bag. Would I recommend - a definite yes. Would I go again - another definite yes. Will probably try takeaway next time but will try to persuade my friends for another visit when they visit Derby

So, I read about this place when searching TripAdvisor for a Chinese restaurant that would cater for coeliacs. I came across a great review. We visited here with friends last month and came back last night. Don't let the outside put you off. Inside the décor is simple but spotless. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing and there were plenty of other diners. Now for the food... The food is first class; cooked to order with the best and freshest ingredients. There were so many options for coeliacs due to the chef's detailed knowledge and ability to substitute ingredients so that flavour was not compromised! The waitress is a real delight, so kind, so friendly, very knowledgeable about the gluten containing dishes and really affable. She communicated with the chef and he suggested other dishes that he could tailor to BD gluten free too. Her husband; the chef, is a very talented man indeed. The dishes he created were absolutely delicious, to die for. The portion sizes were huge and the prices were really advantageous. I don't know how they do it. In fact, we told them they needed to put their prices up, given the quality of the products used and dishes created. This place is seriously worth a visit but make sure you go hungry. You won't regret it!

We went back to Zing Vaa again last Saturday. As usual the meal was superb. Beth was so busy but as always polite, friendly and helpful. One customer was complaining that his beef in black pepper wasn't the normal slice of beef. John the owner tried to explain that Chinese Restaurant Beef in black pepper isn't the same as in an English restaurant, which should be obvious to anyone eating in a Chinese restaurant lol. The food was OK but very veg heavy. The sweet and sour chicken only had 8 small pieces of chicken on top of a mountain of vegetables and the beef in black bean wasn't much better. The chips I do not believe were fried and tasted like oven chips with flavouring, but the rainbow rice was nice. Overall, the mains were slightly on the bland side, it was nice enough but there is definitely better options out the. The starters were actually better than the mains, the satay chicken was loverly and the crispy shredded chicken was decent but combined with the very small glasses of coke they sell I couldn't help but feel it wasn't a very good return on value which had the quality been 10/10 I wouldn't have minded but again the quality wasn't quite there either. Overall I rate it a 7/10 and place it somewhere in he middle of all the Derby Chinese restaurants I have tried (5/6th place maybe). Not convinced I will be returning.

Very relaxed and welcoming, food not only fresh but excellent, the best crispy duck I have ever had!

I have a very acute gluten intolerance and have not enjoyed a Chinese meal of any kind for seven years, a real loss for me as my partner and son both really enjoy this cuisine. Tonight we enjoyed a fully shared meal expertly cooked with waiting and kitchen staff highly aware of knowledgeable of allergens. The Zing Vaa keeps separate fryers for gluten, non-gluten and sesame, ensuring their diners can enjoy the widest range of their menu at once. If you usually can;t eat Chinese food because of allergies give the Zing Vaa a go, I was more than impressed, and we will certainly be going back,

This was an early Christmas celebration with friends and the ambience of the dining room with pretty lighting made us feel welcome and relaxed. The choice of food is excellent with something to satisfy everyone. We're always spoilt for choice but decided to try something different and we were not disappointed. The Special Fried Rice - our friend's favourite - was really good...with prawns, chicken and a delicious sauce. We always like to have a selection of starters too so found the Special Fried Rice was perfect to be shared between two people as John and Beth are very generous with their portions. We're already looking forward to our next visit.

We went in early evening and the place was empty to be expected, however this did not matter the lady at front of house anticipated our needs and made us feel so welcome. The food came in generous portions cooked very well, piping hot and absolutely delicious with every mouth full. Would go again and so happy we have found this lovely little gem. Nice perk was car park at the back too! Thankyou for a lovely evening.

We had a fabulous takeaway this evening. My mum lives locally and the Zing Vaa always cooked and make delicious food. It is fresh, tasty, well presented and good value for money. The lady who served me was very polite and lovely. Thanks so much 😋😋

Never been here before, but we live nearby and thought we'd give it a try on the way home. You can't see the inside from the outside, so I didn't really know what to expect. We parked across the road in the co-op and headed over. In the end it was a casual, relaxed atmosphere, nothing fancy, which I like. It was a Friday night, but not too busy, which was good as the waitress appeared to be alone. She was very friendly and attentive. The menu is fairly priced. We ordered Peking style spare ribs, chicken Cantonese style, special chow mein, egg fried rice and pineapple fritters. The food came out in good time, the portions were good and it was all enjoyed. No complaints. You get a complimentary orange to cleanse the palate after your food and two sweets with your bill. We left with a takeaway menu hoping we have finally found a decent Chinese takeaway in the area. . .

The food was poor. Would not go back. Sauces were watery and the squid was so tough we couldn't cut it with a knife. Chef said if he cooked another one it would be the same ??

What a treat it is to go to Zing Vaa. The lovely welcome from John and Beth; the wonderful piping hot food; the exceptionally clean tableware; the relaxed atmosphere; never being rushed....need we say more?! We always leave feeling so much better than when we arrive.

Sorry to say will never ever go again decided to pay half way through the starters and go elsewhere,sub standard food cold and dark surroundings.

Walked in on Saturday evening, they were busy, had to wait 10 minutes for a table, that’s expected at peak hours. It was well worth the wait, food came out piping hot, generous portions! Everything tasted delicious & fresh. Was one of the best Chinese restaurants we’ve been too.

Firstly let me say maybe they had a bad day when we ordered. But I just cannot believe the other reviews unless they had a bad day. According to them this is one of Derby's best Chinese. Our opinion is this restaurant cannot even make fried rice! We threw the meal away. We have had Yangchow rice many times this version was so awful. We had black bean shrimp and chicken chow mien. The only thing edible was the chow mien.

Our favourite restaurant in Derby! We’ve been coming here as a couple and for family occasions for just over 2 years now and have never been disappointed. The welcome that you receive here is always warm and friendly and the food is delicious and piping hot. On our most recent visit, my Mum happened to mention that it was her birthday and a surprise dessert was brought out to her, whilst singing Happy Birthday - we hadn’t arranged this and it really made her day. Thank you for creating such a welcoming environment to enjoy the best food in!

Used to visit regularly, but hadn't for a few years, so tried a takeaway - and to be fair the food was nice. However the website states 10% discount for takeaways - which wasn't applied. When we queried this we were told it applies to cash only - which is not made clear - and no, they would not do a refund. Poor customer service, so will not be going back.

Just one waitress on a Saturday night. The poor lady was rushed off her feet. The starters were brilliant. The mains were good apart from the beef Curry. The beef was dreadful. The only reason I didn't complain was because the waitress was that busy. In all a little disappointed, we won't back.

We have been going to this restaurant for over 30 years but this visit was so disappointing to say the least. Anyone who looks at the outside would think it was closed (the photos on Tripadvisor are years old), it doesn’t look like this now. We booked a table and sat in the back. The decor has been changed is very odd! The young girl was literally running around on her own serving and we sat there for over half an hour before she came over. We ordered a bottle of wine and 3 starters. The wine arrived fairly quickly but we had to wait well over half an hour for our starters. Everyone was waiting an age to be served so we decided to pay the bill and leave. Staff are desperately needed. Food was average to be honest.

This might not the best Chinese food in town. But the effort they put on food and services definitely cost 120%. Bravo!

After reading all the great reviews we were really disappointed. The back room had no atmosphere, our table was like an office one with no tablecloth and the service was appallingly slow. The waitress was lovely but as she was on her own she was run off her feet. We ended up having to order more drinks until the food came. It was nice food but nothing spectacular and we ended up wishing we had stayed in and ordered a takeaway!

My fiancée & I were here several weeks ago. Can't fault the food, service & reasonable price. Will hopefully return soon 👍

What a wonderful meal we had this evening! Salt and pepper Prawns, crispy fried chicken, two egg fried rice, Szechuan King Prawns and King Prawns in black bean sauce….all SO delicious. The waitress was great too and we’ll very definitely be going back. Faultless.

Awful food but polite staff honestly the worst Chinese food I've ever had

Visited with a couple of friends for the first time in a few years , our food was absolutely lovely , we had the mix hors d’oervres and squid for starter to share , my main was Pork in Spicy black bean sauce which was delicious , lovely friendly waitress and the chef came out to check all was ok , will definitely visit again

I am at a loss as to why so many good reviews on this once excellent restaurant. We have over many years both eaten in and taken away with no complaints. We had been disappointed to say the least on a couple of our last visits/take aways and hadn’t therefore returned for a few years. The other evening we thought we would give it another try. We would try another take away. Firstly - book a take away slot. Secondly - pay cash only and thirdly, and most importantly the food was just awful. Briefly - Mixed House Hors D’s - Spare ribs - cut into small pieces, dry and ‘pick your way through the grizzle’. Salt & pepper crispy shredded chicken - not good. No seaweed. Main: Sweet and Sour King prawn Cantonese style - soft and soggy and breaded and that was after we had found them hiding under a great many slices of sliced carrots. Chicken & cashew nut - very peppery. We now remember why we gave it a miss and won’t be tempted to try ever again. If they are trying to dissuade take away customers they are making a good job of it. £50+ wasted. We will do again as we have done a couple of times recently and drive to collect from Duffield Royal Garden. Far superior and well worth the petrol money.

We were here last night to celebrate my partner’s 50th birthday. Amazing quality food, tasted fresh and nicely spiced. Waitress is friendly and helpful and even joined a table to ours to accommodate the large order. Thank you for a great night, we will be back again soon.

A treat in Littleover... When I was younger a Chinese meal was a treat we had once in a while.. over the years the frequency got more and it felt like it was because as often with a treat the novelty wears off if you have it to often... we go probably once a year often with the same result in disappointment.. Until this evening the treat was back on the menu and it occurred to me that it wasn't the frequency of the meal but the quality that was lacking in all those other visits spanning 30 years.. This place is a gem and a family run one at that very friendly the decor is like a blast from the past.. I liked it as unpretentious as you can get.. the food speaks for itself probably one of the best cantonese meals we have had ever.. I am planning my next visit..

This place don’t open lunch time, their dinner service starts at 5pm. We were there, first table in, on Saturday soon after they opened. They serve impressively fresh delicious food here at reasonable price. There’s a lot of tasty options on the menu and a selection of choice for vegetarian/vegan too. And my favourite has to be the aubergine in black bean sauce and salt & pepper tofu. Takeaway is available for collection only.

Everything about our visit was great. Even tho we were the only dining in customers. The staff were great. Very inviting. The food was top notch. The best Chinese meal we've had in several years. Will definitely be going back.

Used zing vaa to good to go very disappointed told to collect between 14.30 /14.45 . There was no meat left and what was left was only a few bits and bobs. Should not advertise to good to go if there is nothing left very poor Zing vaa👎

7 of us went here for my daughters 18th birthday ,they looked after us very well all the food we ordered was delishious! And they even surprised my daughter with a cake and candle. how kind we didn't even ask for that ,we will deffo be returning.

Local gem. Particularly good Tofu. If you don't get the point of Tofu, try it here. Many other good things on the menu too whether you are veggie or carnivore.

We went as a family of 6 to celebrate our daughters 18th Birthday. Food and service was excellent! Ahead of time we dropped a cake off which was brought out at the end of the meal , nothing was too much trouble. We have been coming here a number of years , for us our number 1 Chinese restaurant. Amazing food, the best Chinese meal I’ve had. Food was piping hot, beautifully cooked with lovely attention to detail by our waitress. Surroundings were a little stark as we sat in the front area but this didn’t really detract from the food. Will definitely be back again, the duck starter was superb.

We visited on the first weekend when inside dining was allowed. The place was well set out with tables well spaced and everything spotlessly clean. The couple that run it were rushed off their feet but managed to cope well and the food was absolutely delicious - so glad it has reopened after the lockdown.

The restaurant is very clean and cozy. The waitress was Proffessional and welcoming but very dissappointed with the quality of the food . We ordered chow mein and I could barely eat it because the chef had put too much sauce and it tasted quite bitter .. the beef was also very old and not fresh . For such a highly priced menu the meat should be fresh and prepared well .. I can not justify the quality of the food to the cost .. not a good experience unfortunately .

I haven't been to this restaurant for a very long time, I have really missed out, the food was excellent. Duck pancakes were delicious, I can highly recommend the house special chow mein. All of the food was piping hot and with the freshest ingredients, flavours were outstanding. 5 of us out for dinner and every meal different, we were all of the same opinion. Excellent service and food. Can't wait to return and now this will be my Saturday night take away place.

Even though we'd much prefer to eat inside the restaurant and it has always been exceptional clean and caring towards its customers BEFORE the pandemic, it suits us at the moment to have a takeaway.The food is exceptionally good - always piping hot and very generous amounts. It's easy to order on the phone and Beth will usually bring it out to your car in their carpark. If you can't manage to eat it all at once, you can freeze it to enjoy another night.We miss sitting at 'our' table and chatting to John and Beth but it's nice to support them in a different way until this challenging period is over.

We haven’t been to Zing Vaa for over 6 months because of lockdown, so what a delight this evening to be reminded of the outstanding, gorgeous flavours of the food here. Zing Vaa is not your typical Chinese restaurant, even if the menu looks familiar. Every dish tastes special and entirely different and superior to other Chinese restaurants. (It is a bit of a joke that Cosmo gets no. 1 chinese restaurant in Derby - there is really no comparison.)The husband and wife couple who own the restaurant are both lovely and there is a very homely atmosphere.

We had regular takeaways over lockdown and have visited the restaurant since which has fully embraced covid-19 guidance. The food is always gorgeous, and the service very friendly and efficient. We have recommended this restaurant to family and friends and they have not been disappointed.

We went for a meal last Tuesday evening. Very busy but still the same excellent service and great food, thanks John for you awesome cooking Beth, Lauren for serving the wonderful food. Tony and I are coming back next week with friends.

Always great food - never had a disappointing meal either eating in or take-away. They are lovely people too - even ran after me to give me some money as I had been accidentally charged the restaurant price for my take-away. Would definitely recommend.

The restaurant has fully embraced all the rules and regulations that now exist due to Covid. We all felt very safe and comfortable around the other diners as the tables are very well spaced out, with no table cloths or cutlery on them. I actually rather liked the bare wooden tables - much easier to keep clean and better for the environment.Somehow it seems brighter too.The menu has changed -- looks more upto date and strangely more appetising now and I would recommend that they keep it rather than going back to the "old" one.The food was Excellent,very good portion sizes and superb service.Give it a try - you won't be disapointed.

Really disappointed with our take away tonight. I have always had a very high opinion of Zing Vaa so to decided to have a treat. The Hors Douvres for two was always stunning but this was a shadow of former meals, our ribs were dry and took a lot of chewing. We accepted that they had run out of seaweed 😕but none of this was good. Crispy beef was so lumpy and thick and chewy. I rarely complain but this was not a cheap takeaway and we crossed town to get it. Very sorry to complain but so disappointed.

Ordered food delivery during lockdown. Food was exceptional. Vegetarian Duck with Pancake Rolls was like the real thing. Will be making this a regular thing. Compliments all round.
