Great food and always looked after so well by the friendly staff

Delicious. My wife went with a friend and loved the food so much she asked me to take her back the very next day. Staff really attentive and keen for us to enjoy (dialled the heat up slightly after listening to our preferences). I have had in my head for most of my adult life that I love Thai food, but must admit that I had forgotten why. This meal reminded me. After starters, main and flowing drinks was shocked by the very reasonable price. If we weren’t too shy to look like superfans, we would have gladly gone back for a third night in a row (and will definitely be back very soon).

Everyone there is literally so sweet. The food was really yummy as well. I felt so welcomed from the second I walked in and even while I was leaving.

Excellent totally recommend this fantastic restaurant. Will be visiting again in November can't wait. Not only is the food superb but the staff and owner are so welcoming. Don't miss your opportunity to treat your taste buds

Zap is now my go to place in Bury St Edmunds. No where gets close to the food they produce. I’m so impressed with the quality of food the kitchen produces. I’ve been here twice now. Once with friends and so impressed I took my partner tonight! Pom (the proprietor) is so hospitable and welcoming, which makes a welcome change from the multi-nationals dotted around Bury. Apparently Pom has been running the restaurant for 18 months and it had gone under my radar until recently. The restaurant is very unassuming but has a charm that works well. At a guess Zap can cope with approximately 26 covers. It’s cosy with split level dining with an alcove that has around 8 covers. Now to the food… I’ve tried the shared starter which is a nice introduction to Thai food. Also tried the Duck Tamarind with Jasmine Rice which was spot on. The second visit we shared Prawn Special Fried Rice, Beef Pad Thai Noodles and Chicken Panang Curry. Again very tasty and flavoursome. Pom gave us a little dessert refresher to finish off the meal which was delicious and a nice touch. Well done to all who work with Pom and hopefully we will be back very soon. A real hidden gem.

Passed Zap after having walked around Bury trying to find somewhere to eat on a busy Friday night around 7pm. The restaurant looked full but we speculatively entered and asked if we could be seated and Pom welcomed us so warmly and showed us to a table at the back. The table really suited us, in the back room. We liked the private nature of this are and were very happy. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice. It’s neutrally decorated with Thai inspired ornaments, table decorations and plenty of plants. We were quickly served with a jug of ice water and glasses while we looked over the menu. I advised the lady serving the water that I have an allergy and she went and got Pom for me to talk me through my options. Pom (I hope I’m spelling your name correctly) was superb the entire time, from the warm welcome, to expertly walking through the gluten free options and really reassuring me that everything would be safe for me to eat. Pom was visiting every table and was so attentive. A real credit to Zap and one of the reasons well no doubt return. I was excited that both the options I wanted to eat were gluten free and the egg fried rice could be adapted to be gluten free. I had the Tom Yum to start which was delicious. My partner had the fish cakes and he was extremely happy with them. Mains I had a panang and my partner had a massaman. Both were delicious. I opted for egg fried rice and my partner sticky rice. All of the food was warm, tasty, aromatic and good portions. We were very happy. Pom asked me if they had gluten free beer, would I order it and I said yes, however. The wine I had, the Merlot, was delicious. My partner also very much enjoyed their wine. The service at times may be slower than some people may like, however for us the service was superb. We were given time to enjoy our meal, whilst also being seen to attentively and in a timely manner whenever we asked for something. The only negative I have is that when paying, Pom entered the cost of the meal and I had no ability to provide a tip. I wish I’d been given the ability to enter a tip on the card machine before paying, I would have been very happy to give one and sadly had no cash on me. However, we most certainly will be returning. Zap in our opinion is the best Thai in Bury. Fantastic service. Delicious food. Reasonably priced and local. What’s not to love. We’ll be back. A dream for coeliacs and anyone with a gluten allergy. You just have to try this little restaurant which packs in such big and gorgeous flavours and a huge heart!! My wife and I were made to feel welcome right off the bat, the staff are so friendly and caring, they really appreciate and look after you. I have special dietary needs and they accommodated me perfectly. The food was just sooo good, I loved every mouthful, the tiger prawn red thai curry was delicious and the chicken satay was a little but moreish. My wife had a selection of starters as her main and they looked amazing and I didn't get anywhere near them as they were just snapped up they were so good. Definitely check out this lovely place.

This is the most amazing Thai food i have ever tasted. All the food was very fresh and so delicious. The owners were amazing, friendly and attentive. Lots of gluten free options were available which was so nice as many places only give you a couple of choices. I wish we lived closer so we could visit again. We may have to come back just for their food. If you want Thai food don't go anywhere else!

What a wonderful find. The food, the service and the atmosphere were all amazing. A group of 4 of us from work went ahead of my birthday weekend, and I couldn't have felt more special (thank you so much for my birthday balloon). The food was absolutely delicious. The welcome when we arrived (and the goodbye when we left) was like meeting old friends though I'd never been there before. Such a special place 💕 I will definitely be returning, and will be recommending this wonderful place to everyone.

A lovely hidden gem. The service was fantastic great knowledge of the food when I booked was thoroughly questioned about my allergy and when I arrived they knew exactly who we were and which dishes to avoid regarding my allergy. The food was delicious and extremely reasonably priced. We had a fabulous evening and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and will visit again soon.

Whilst staying with friends they booked us in for a meal. On arrival we were shown to our table and from then on we were treated to top class service, all the staff were brilliant and went through the menu with us and nothing was to much trouble. The food was amazing, will deffinatley be going back the next time we are in the area.

After a few disappointing experiences at Giggling Squid (and very indifferent service) we found this little gem via a Google search. Based on the excellent reviews we tried it out before Christmas and we weren’t disappointed. We came back again earlier this week and got a warm welcome from the owner who remembered us. My husband had the prawn jungle curry, I had the chicken panang curry and we shared wok fried broccoli and mushrooms, noodles with beansprouts and steamed rice. All dishes were excellent, and the doggy bag that I took home tasted just as good for lunch the next day. This food is cooked with love. We’ll definitely be back, and I already know what I’ll choose from the menu next time...

This was our second visit to this lovely little restaurant. The perfect place to start a weekend in Bury St Edmunds. Great location and the food especially the specials is great. I had the crispy sea bass and have to say it was perfect. My wife had the roast duck and loved it. The owner remembered from our last visit that my wife is a big fan of tamarind and when we arrived presented her with two little boxes of tamarind sweets. we are hoping to visit again in March but I suspect with food and service this good, we may find it hard to get a table.

I don’t know what has happened previously visits would have rated 5 star. Last night was terrible completely different food. The jungle curry was watery and weird with a few tiny bits of grey meat in oceans of water - there were none of the normal premium nice veg or fresh peppercorns etc. The Tom yum soup was also very different. The panang curry was ok and the starters not great but edible. So sad as it used to be so good.

Just had the most amazing meal at Zap Thai. The food is exceptional and the staff are all really friendly. The pad Thai in particular was delicious.

My wife Eileen and I enjoyed a fabulous meal at this intimate and friendly restaurant last week. We shared a generous plate of 'Tamarind Duck' as a starter which was simply delicious. For our main course we both opted for Thai Green Curry - one prawn and one beef. Superbly flavoured and spiced, this was outstanding. To accompany the curries we chose Sticky Rice which was cooked perfectly. Service was beyond criticism, prices extremely reasonable, chairs comfortable, toilets immaculate.....it just doesn't get any better! ZAP is very highly recommended and we can't wait to return!

Great restaurant, fantastic food, loved it!

Before Xmas we enjoyed our first experience at Zap Thai so much so that we booked a return visit with the folks a week later. This may be a small independent Thai restaurant but it serves up some of the best Thai food we’ve had in Suffolk. Not only is the food superb but the service is first class too. Over the two meals we tried the mixed starters, chicken satay, soup, salad, pad thai, green curry and our favourite the massaman chicken curry. All were excellent with generous portions, and for a reasonable price. We travelled over from Ipswich and found the central location also convenient for parking. Locals should consider themselves very lucky to have this restaurant on their doorsteps. Highly recommended. Back soon!

The best Thai food you’ll find anywhere this side of Thailand! Ms. Pom routinely makes extra effort to ensure the food is exactly what I wanted and has never failed to deliver. While I’m no expert on Thai food, I have been there quite a few times and her food is as close as you could as for while on the other side of the world. A lovely dining experience from start to finish and I highly recommend you find out for yourself, you will not be disappointed

We booked this Thai restaurant as an old favorite for an upcoming stay in the town. This restaurant had changed hands since we last visited Bury St Edmunds before COVID. We had no reason to worry. My wife emailed them a week before and got a quick response from Pom. On arrival we were warmly greeted by Pom who had remembered the details of the reservation including allergies and table preference. The food was simply amazing and the service was very engaging with appropriate check backs. We are about 90 minutes from the Bury St Edmunds and would definitely book for an end of day visit back to the town. I work in London and Pom even took the effort to recommend good Thai restaurants local to my work location. The decor is lovely and the only reason it wasn’t 5 star for atmosphere was because it wasn’t a busy night. Come on fellow Thai food lovers, get out and support this little gem!!

I rarely write reviews about places i absolutely adore because i struggle to find the right words to describe such an experience, because that really is what great places are; an experience. Everything from the amazing food to the hospitality is just second to none....

If you appreciate delicious authentic Thai food this small Thai family run restaurant will not disappoint. Fresh quality ingredients and dishes individually prepared and spiced to your liking. I highly recommend the Green Papaya salad and Thai fish cakes from the starter menu and the Green curry and also the Sea Bass from the mains. Service is excellent, you'll receive a warm welcome from Pom who goes out of her way to ensure that you have a great meal. A little gem of a restaurant, do give it a try.

We went into this independent Thai restaurant today after walking past a few times. We were not sure what to expect as from the outside it looks very low key. Thank goodness we gave it a chance! The food was the best Thai food I have ever tasted. It was authentic Thai food . You can choose to have traditional Thai dishes as mild or as hot as you like. I went for a hot green curry , I was surprised that given the extra heat, the other flavours were not compromised and still came through. The portion sizes were not scrimped on either. The service was friendly welcoming and personal , not like your big chain service. I plan on going back very soon.

We had the perfect evening out at Zap Thai! The food was absolutely delicious and all the staff were so warm and friendly. We were made to feel not like customers, but like we were welcome guests; offered genuine hospitality and being treated to a lovingly prepared home cooked meal - by an expert chef! The menu choice is just right, the portion sizes perfect, and the atmosphere relaxed and cosy. Everything we ate was divine! I can't wait to go back

Stopped in for lunch yesterday with my partner, the food was amazing but our experience was elevated by the lovely lady who took the time to chat to us and teach us a few conversational phrases. My partner is Thai but no longer speaks it, so it was brill to see him have the opportunity to embrace his heritage. We will be back! :)

My wife and I had a tom yum soup, papaya salad, tamarind duck, red curry, jasmine rice and sticky rice. Every dish was delicious, the portions were generous, and the server was attentive and kind. They even tailored the heat of the dishes to our requirements!

This place is fabulous! Low-key atmosphere, service was really friendly and personal without being intrusive, and as for the food, it was all excellent, but the tamarind duck in particular has made it straight onto the "10 best things I've ever eaten in my whole life" list. Prices are reasonable -- not cheap (and indeed why should it be?) but not too expensive either. It's a really lovely little restaurant, and I can't recommend it enough.

After being fortunate enough to win a generously donated voucher in my workplace charity raffle, my recent dining experience at Zap Thai met all expectations. The moment we stepped into the restaurant, we received a warm and friendly welcome from Pom, the owner, who promptly showed us to our table. The atmosphere exuded a welcoming vibe, and the service was not only quick but also delivered with genuine friendliness. The food itself was delicious and offered generous portions. The beef panang curry was tender and flavoursome with just the right level of heat, and the mixed starters were perfect to share between two. If you're looking out for a place to eat in Bury, Zap Thai should certainly be on your list. I can't wait to return at the earliest opportunity.

My partner and I are so glad we tried Zap Thai instead of the usual chain restaurants. We had a delicious meal and couldn’t fault the authentic dishes that we chose. The Thai prawn crackers were huge and served with homemade sweet chilli dipping sauce. We chose to share a Panang Curry and Pad Thai and didn’t leave a crumb. The star of the show was the banana roti dessert, which we decided to share but wish we had had one each! We’d highly recommend eating at the restaurant, as the service was warm, welcoming and faultless, it felt as though we’d been invited into their home. We can’t wait to come back, especially to try the mango sticky rice!
