Zaffrani in Islington

My husband and I have been going to Zaffrani for more than 10 years and we always had a great experience. Last time I went with my mother and she loved it as well. Lovely food and exceptional service

Such a lovely restaurant. All the staff are so friendly, we were given excellent recommendations, the Simla Mirchi Murgh was incredible. Would highly recommend.

The most delicious Indian food in London! Every time we've been we've had the most incredible service as well! Such lovely staff who have given us great recommendations and have given us poppadoms and tea on the house! Can't recommend this place enough

My first time there tonight and absolutely loved it! The staff is so friendly, the restaurant is so well presented, clean, white table cloths! And the curry is the best I had in London so far. Jack made sure I was well looked after and even gave me complimentary poppadoms! I will become a regular for sure!

Amazing service from Mr Jake and staff! I arrived by myself and was greeted by the owner. The restaurant was full but he made Sure I was taken care of. I’m going to emphasize service since this is something I found lacking in London and sets the tone for your meal. Not only was the chef/owner very kind but so were the servers. And of course the meal was amazing! Succulent chicken with a creamy rich sauce and perfect lemon rice.

Lovely delicious food. They coped easily with a table of eight. Will go back. Whole dinner including a beer each cost about £200 plus tip. I never leave reviews but this place is worth it!

Best Indian I’ve had in a long time! Chicken tikka sagg beautiful. You could tell chicken had been cooked traditionally as flavour and texture perfect! Lovely welcoming staff. Highly recommended.

The food here is incredible. Very authentic, fresh and home cooked. Mr Jack is a lovely host who welcomes you so well and treats you like family. Would definitely recommend!

Love it! So glad I've found this restaurant as I really enjoy curry when staying away overnight with work. The restaurant is close to Islington high street and clearly attracts a regular local crowd, which for me was a really good sign of its quality. I wasn't disappointed. The staff were very friendly and attentive + gave me some delightful recommendations. My lamb red curry was perfect, hot, but sensible and full of flavour. I also really like the cheese nann bread. The value for money was also excellent. Two large beers, a lamb curry, rice, and nann + starter all for 35 pounds! Superb. Brilliant restaurant. When I'm next in Islington, I will be back!

As a family, we love Indian food. We had chosen all the lamb dishes tonight and were surprised by the variations. We were all very happy with our choice. It really was a flavour experience. The service was very attentive and the bill was absolutely reasonable.

We had a lovely late dinner at Zaffrani. The food was amazing and the owner was very nice and generous letting us in late. Will come back!!!

I've been here many times in the past 8 years, and the place has improved and become more popular with time. The setting has remained the same. There are around 40 seats available inside and outside, we booked in advance, but there was still availability. There are a lot of people working here and they are all quite friendly and like to crack a joke. Food is tasty and well prepared, service is fairly quick. They do forget little things here and there, but overall, a pleasant experience.

The korma was white never known a korma to be white a bit too creamy for mine n my wife's liking its a quaint restaurant in a good location I only understood the korma on the menu unless ur punjabi then ur knackered menu needs explained a bit more but other than that it's a very nice place avoid the very hot chilli that comes with the poppadoms or u be on fire

This restaurant has friendly, efficient staff and superb fresh food, beautifully prepared plated and served. There is just one drawback, the crescendo of noise fron rowdy and inconsiderate fellow-diners. The restaurant needs larger premises and a "quiet room", for diners who wish to talk to each other, be heard, and eat this wonderful food in peace and with dignity.

We may be biased (we live across the street) but we love Zaffrani- solid food at a reasonable price along with excellent service.

Good pre show meal. Came here for some food before a show at the Amelia theatre. Chicken tikka for starter before a chicken jalfrezi. It was very nice — not cheap …..£32 for this plus a diet code…..although in London this is fairly standard. The service was good, polite and attentive , and the food very tasty. Would happily go there again.

Changing trains at Highbury, we chose this restaurant after reading Google reviews and were not disappointed. One of the best Indian meals we’ve had, staff were friendly and efficient - a great find!

I read great reviews about this place so my expectations were high. Unfortunately, my experience didn't match the expectations, which is a shame because I could have gone elsewhere to have a great meal. I don't go out to eat very often and really love Indian food so I picked green curry which was quite expensive but I thought 'I'll treat myself once in a while'. And the waiter said it was their signature dish so I expected a delicious meal and a decent portion as well as it was one of the most expensive dishes on the menu. To my surprise, the curry sauce was barely covering the chicken...I had to ask for more as I wouldn't have been able to eat the rice. Also, the chicken was cooked separately and the sauce was poured over the chicken which is really strange. I've never seen that before: you would always get chicken which was cooked together with curry and would soak up all the spices..but maybe that's how they make it. Another thing was the curry sauce was nothing special. Honestly, I could do it myself at home: the only thing there was yoghurt, mint and some coriander and lots of salt. I ate it but was really disappointed. This was a special day and it kind of got ruined. Maybe other dishes are better but mine was definitely not a good choice. And for the price I paid, definitely not worth it... I also ordered flatbread (I think roti) which came rolled and wrapped in a cling film (weird) and was cold and very chewy... I asked if they could take it off my bill because I just tried and left the rest, which they kindly did. The service was quite good hence 5 stars for it but the rest disappointment. I have to say that this was my worst Indian meal served in a restaurant and I actually wouldn't pay even £5 for that curry...not sure why they're charging so much for it. Wanted to like it but won't be going back there.

Quite simply our favourite curry house of all time. We live very close which helps, however the food is really great here - we’ve been coming for years and never had a bad meal (to the contrary the food is superb) and everyone you speak to locally loves the place. The team that run it are really great and the level of service is always superb. The vegetable samosas are a must. Cannot recommend the place highly enough.

Food and reviews looked great and this was my first time ordering from here but unfortunately I will not be ordering again. I know curry’s can be oily but this amount of oil is not acceptable and the food was not even edible for me .

Feeling regretful that we didn’t try Zaffrani earlier! It is the best Indian food in Angel or even Islington. The food are very delicious and the service is impeccable. Friendly and proud of their dishes. Uncle Jack is very nice! Wonderful experience will definitely come again soon!

Price: 5/5 Great price for the quality and quantity. £60 for two people.

Since we wanted to have a nice Indian Dinner our friends recommended to stop by at Zaffrani. What we got there was so good, that we returned the very next day again. The food was superb, so was the service! Strong recommondation and many thanks to the team for 2 lovely evenings!

Great Indian food just a block off of Upper Street, a main road that runs through Islington. Service fast and pleasant, food exceptional.

A hidden gem just off of the main Upper Street in London. We stayed at an Airbnb just 2 doors down from this place, and at 4:00PM when the kitchen really starts to get busy, awesome smells wafted onto our terrace and into our cottage. Although the decor is minimalistic, the service and food is awesome. A must try!

This restuarant has gone down hill . It used to be excellent 5 years ago. Very pricey for bad quality food.

Family run, very attentive, advised against over-ordering, looked after a larger group of us really well, accommodated us outside on a beautiful summer’s evening and left us feeling full and amused after. Amazing food, and genuinely engaged staff. Staff were great with my children (10 and 12) and made sure they has a good a meal as my wife and I. Lovely quiet environment just off the beaten track in an otherwise very busy but exciting area. We will be back!

We had a reservation at 5pm but were asked to come back in 20 minutes since they were just opening....No idea, why they would let you make a reservation in the first place.

On a recent trip to London, staying in Islington, we had researched possible Indian restaurants for a meal. We called in the Zaffrani late at night and enjoyed our meal cooked fresh even though the place was very close to shutting up shop and we were last ones in. We thought a bit more flexibility on possible starters would have been good but the choices we made were very tasty. We thought that the menu prices, for London, were quite fair and will happily visit again when we're in Islington. We live in the Peak District and the food compared well with our local award winning restaurant.

I went here with my friends and we all loved it. We had a spectacular evening. The service was 10/10 and the food was amazing. We got given recommendations of dishes from a waiter who’s name I forgot and we all loved our food uncle Jack was also great he made sure we were well looked after. The atmosphere is so relaxing and had good vibes. I’ll definitely be back.

Absolutely delicious food. The menu is a break from the norm, with a range of new and interesting dishes as well as some classics too. So tasty, and a good range of vegetarian as well as meat dishes. The waiters were very polite, efficient and friendly and the restaurant itself had a great atmosphere. This was our first visit but we are looking forward to returning soon!

Our best indian food experience in London so far ! For the outside, it looks like a plain restaurant, but their dishes are delicious! We started with fried onions (can't remember the actual name sorry), and they tasted great, not too greasy and lovely spiced. The main courses were taken from their regionals (I think I ordered the Maghwa) and again, perfect : fresh ingredients and spices, mild but tasty, rice was as good too. Wow! Astonishing! Uncle Jack is the best waiter I’ve ever had. 10/10 service and 10/10 food. Best water definitely filtered . Wish there was more naan bread. Mr T was good also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
