Yr Hen Printworks in Ceredigion

Stunning experience at the Old Printworks. The small plates dining experience is such a great idea. The food is Michelin Star quality and the service is is fantastic from enthusiastic and friendly staff. If you are in Cardigan this is an experience not to be missed.

Such a disappointment visiting this restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We arrived on time and almost two hours later we still hadn’t received all of our food. The waitress could see that we had been waiting for longer than anyone else. Unfortunately the manager did not seem bothered and actually never came back to us. The food when it arrived was tasty, well presented and the restaurant nicely decorated. However the length of time we had to wait and the shocking customer service certainly did not create a lovely occasion for us. We were asked to pay the full bill which is it had been a great experience we would have happily paid. We complained and the manager eventually came back to see us. His attitude was shocking and even though he took money off the bill, we will not be returning. We have been visiting West Wales for 10 days and it was the worse experience we have had eating out.

Excellent choice of beverages, including non alcoholic choices. Great decor and an over must visit when in the area. Pre book though online. Excellent communication throughout.

Each dish was cooked and presented perfectly. Staff we just the right side of attentive and the room and atmosphere were nice. Right now you can't offer meals of this quality on the cheap. I have seen decent restaurants reducing their quality just to try to make a profit but Yr Hen Printworks haven't done this. Easily the best meal I have eaten in Cardigan

Absolutely amazing food. Really well catered for Coeliacs and veggies too. Loved it and definitely going back. Staff were so friendly and even let us decant to the sofas for desert and coffee.

Yr hen Printworks did not disappoint!. My husband and I booked a table for our Anniversary while visiting Aberporth, just 15 minutes away. The website was interesting and this was our first ‘small plate’ experience of dining out. We loved it!! Yr Hen Printworks had a great atmosphere, friendly and accomodating staff, fab wine list, delicious cocktails(the passionfruit martini was the best I’ve had) and a complete story in food . My husband and I ordered 9 plates between us and shared every one with each plate offering a depth of flavours and textures that was a delight with every mouthful. The only plate that we didn’t enjoy so much was the crab, we were hoping to experience beautiful crab meat in some way but although compiled beautifully for form it lacked flavour and was more of a loose mousse in texture. However this did not have any bearing on the enjoyment of our meal, the small plate idea lends itself to sharing and creates intimacy and conversation. Well done all, extremely happy customers that will definitely return when visiting again

It was our first night in Cardigan and the restaurant we had planned to visit was closed. We came across Yr Hen Printworks at 7.00 and although we had not booked, they offered a table at 8, so we had a drink. The venue's ambience was very relaxed, good music. My partner had originally wanted a steak and thought the small plates would not be enough, but how wrong we were; the wait was worth it! We chose 3 sides and a fish and meat dish. Every plate was vibrant and full of flavour and we couldn't wait to try each new dish. Thank you to the chef and staff for a fantastic evening.

This is a great place. The “small plates” aren’t that small either!! The freshness of the ingredients and the flavours are dazzling. We opted for the heritage tomatoes with ricotta and olive and caper dressing, (gorgeous), Cardigan Bay crab with hazelnut and white cabbage, (delicious) and fish cake with pickled cucumber and curried mayonnaise ( superb) This menu isn’t trying to be clever- it’s just simple, fresh, local ingredients, beautifully presented and perfectly cooked in relaxed and friendly surroundings, served by absolutely charming young staff-all of whom have clearly been very well trained. The wine list is comprehensive and very reasonably priced and we opted for a young French rose which complemented our dinner very well. We loved Yr Hen and can’t praise it highly enough. Very highly recommended.

It was challenging finding good restaurants in Cardigan, until I stumbled on Yr Hen Printworks. I went on the basis of other reviews and it lived up to all the good things I read. We booked on the day at the very last minute and luckily got a bar table, which we thought would be at a bar, but is actually a high table and stools which we didn't mind. The food was great. We were recommended 3-4 dishes each, but found 2-3 was more than enough. Whilst plates are small we found them to be very filling. Staff were really welcoming and lovely. Would definitely come back!

First time visitors, but definitely will be visiting again! What an amazing find in Cardigan! Enjoyed a really nice meal at Yr Hen Printworks. The website doesn’t do it justice, but would definitely recommend. All the dishes were wonderfully presented and tasted fantastic! First time trying hake and would thoroughly recommend the hake, fish cake and carrots! Dan was our server and provided excellent customer service, and one of the managers even shared a little history about the building and restaurant name itself which was a nice touch. Really nice atmosphere as well. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is in Cardigan!

The restaurant is very attractive, the room upstairs was cool and airy on a hot day, the ambience was good, the staff friendly and efficient. We started off with a dish of the IOW tomatoes which was full of flavour and the warm soda bread was very nice. The gnocchi and cheese sauce was tasty, (though they reminded me of croquettes rather than gnocchi). One of the other dishes I had was described as Cardigan Bay Crab and for £9 / £10 I did expect a decent portion of crab meat. The dish consisted of a small amount of some sort of puree with tiny flecks of crab, which barely tasted of crab, covered with shredded white cabbage. When the waitress asked if everything was alright, I did express my disappointment at this dish and she said she would let the kitchen know. However no one followed this up with me I think a more detailed description of the dishes on the menu would be a help to customers, rather than just having a list of ingredients. Overall, we did enjoy being here, and would visit again, but would probably ask more questions about individual dishes.

Dinner for 9pm last night 29.6.24. We were a bit early. On entering the restaurant we could see it was full with a lovely atmosphere. The owner was supper friendly and welcoming, made sure we were shown to our table within minutes.Front of house staff very professional, the menus and pre dinner drinks were spot on. The food well what can I say. Best meal we have had in a good while. We chose the soda bread & butter, also 3 small plates each, combo of, the crab,the fishcake, the gnocci, & the lamb, with one additional side. A dessert & cheese plate. We love our food. All were utterly delish, delish delish. Favourites were the gnocci & lamb but Can't fault anything.Would defo eat here again and will be recommending to friends & family.

Fantastic food in a great environment with super friendly staff. Lovely cocktails too. It wasn't cheap but didn't expect it to be. Busy on a Saturday evening and a couple of times the waitress said she had been asked not to put more orders through to the kitchen which spread the meal out. This was fine with us but we were then a little surprised to be told we only had the table for 2 hours even though we were still trying to order food. The staff quickly realised this and after considering moving us to a different table juggled things around so we could stay where we were and enjoy more food and drinks!

My wife and i had a fabulous meal last Saturday night. As one reviewer has already said, this is a real gem. Great welcome, service, cocktails and, as for the food, that was absolutely excellent. Lovely combinations. They also accommodated our allergies with a slightly tailored menu. What a great kitchen! All in all, if you are in around Cardigan, this should definitely be top of your list for dining!!

Very expensive restaurant with strange semi-tapas food. Food was good but very small portions. We had totally burnt uneatable chips, for £6 a bowl!! Sweets were around £9 each - rather expensive!

Superb food and cocktails. Everything was beautiful prepared and presented and tasted incredible. Set in a lovely restored building with a great atmosphere inside. Service was really good, the staff were super friendly. I would eat here again in a heartbeat.

This is a little star in cardigan. Staff were amazing and the quality of food was a pleasure to eat. This is a small plate restaurant with skill to burn. Cardigan has so much to offer but this was one of the bests part of our yearly visit. Thank you for giving us another reason to come back next year.

Lovely place for dinner, great cocktail menu and delicious taster plates, we tried a lot of different things and they were all exquisite. Friendly service too.

I enjoyed our visit, very clean and prompt service with happy friendly staff. My favourite dishes were the gnocchi, the crab and the rhubarb panna cotta. My only criticism would be the size of table we were seated at. Yes there was only the two of us but we were seated to the left of the doors at the side of the stairs. With the menu holder, two glasses of wine, two glasses for water along with the water bottle, the side order of bread and butter along with the side plates and side order of chips, three or four orders of food all arriving at the same time there was not a square centimetre of table top available. Yes we felt very cramped. As it was only 5pm there was only one other table in use, we should have asked for a larger table but it was our first visit so did not know how our food would arrive.

The food here, lovingly prepared by top chef, Chris Walker, is truly exceptional. The meal was absolutely delicious and exquisitely presented. The old print works /chapel building has been renovated with care, the atmosphere is relaxed and staff were friendly.

What a wonderful place in every way. We were greeted by a very friendly member of staff, taken to our table. Dan, the waiter, was so informative, helpful and chatty. The food was absolutely delicious. We eat small plates regularly, but these small plates were some of the best we have eaten. It was a brilliant experience all round. If you want a special time, you must go eat here.

Recently visited this restaurant, there was a lovely atmosphere, busy but the tables were well spaced. The small plates menu had plenty of choice and the quality and flavours were fantastic and enough for two to share. Definitely recommend a visit. I would like to thank the staff who helped us, my wife cut her finger and the staff were immediately on hand to provide support and a first aid kit....

We chose Ty Hen for a rare meal out by ourselves, and we were not disappointed. The food is excellent and good value. Our favourite dishes were the haddock and the gnocchi. The home made bread was so so good! The service was perfect, staff very friendly, chatty and in good humour. All-in-all, strongly recommended.

I’ve been here for meals twice so far but many more on the cards I hope. Delicious small plates of imaginative, varied and tasty food. The staff are great, well informed, friendly and attentive. The decor and atmosphere is lovely. The cocktails are also gorgeous. On the two occasions I have visited the menu has been different, and I really appreciate the variety.

Really lovely dining experience, some of the dishes aren't balanced and certain elements were completely overpowering. (Whole table felt the same and we sampled multiple of nearly every dish on the menu) Staff & chef were really friendly and accommodating of SDR's. Lovely atmosphere. Definitely recommend as with anything personal taste & I would return because the quality of food is excellent.

Where to start. Firstly it's a beautifully renovated building, it's stunning. The staff were outstanding, friendly, attentive and they knew the menu and were excellent on recommendations. The food is something else, the quality of the ingredients was excellent and the chief did some amazing things with it. Flavours, portion size was all just right. I really can't fault anything I had and I'm quite fussy when eating out. The owner of the business is hands on, right in the thick of it. All produce is local which is fabulous to see and to know that by eating there, your supporting a whole range of local businesses. I really can't recommend Y Hen Printworks enough. It was a lovely night out.

Our first experience of the latest menu at Yr Hen Printworks last night, and even our high expectations of this place were surpassed. We both thought the food was quite sensational. Add in the welcoming, friendly service and pleasant ambience and it's really hard to beat. Strongly recommended.

Went here New Year's Eve although it was busy service was quick and friendly, food was great, especially the sea bream and the treacle tart (yum). Cocktails were also good, would definitely recommend this place.

I can’t fault the setting, food and service which were all brilliant. We did feel the restaurant was slightly overpriced - and we live just outside of London so are used to pretty high prices! Mark-ups on bottles of wine are particularly high - for example, £42 for some Welsh wine which is <£15 a bottle at Waitrose. I’m all for supporting local but the quality of the wine didn’t justify the mark-up. We also felt a couple of the dishes were overpriced considering portion size. I wholeheartedly recommend a visit but it’s definitely more of a special occasion place.

Delighted to find this place on our doorstep. They fit us in on my wife's birthday after another restaurant cancelled our booking (made months ago) at short notice. Staff were wonderfully attentive without being intrusive. Food was delicious. We found 3 small plates and a side each plus dessert was a perfect sized meal. Good range of drinks and reasonably priced. We'll be back soon.

Very disappointing. Pre-ordered our meals; food arrived before some of us had even taken our coats off. Wine arrived after we had started eating. Whilst some guests were still eating, we were told we'd have to vacate the table by a ceratyin time (30 minutes) and then they proceeded to clear our table! Not relaxing and extremely rushed. When you pay Michelin star prices, you expect Michelin star service.

Absolutely fabulous meal at the Printworks this evening. From the amazing atmosphere with the wood burner and the tastefully decorated tree to the sensational and delicious food to the warm welcome and the great service. The menu is absolutely wonderful and we will need to visit a few more times to take full advantage. One of the best meals we have enjoyed in a long time and we are real foodies. Highly recommended and thank you for making our evening. Amazing.

Printworks is an incredible place! The staff are wonderful, the atmosphere is spot on and the food is just soooo blooming tasty (let's not forget the mega options on the drinks front too,from tasty cocktails to local beers, they've got it all!). Love the small plates so you can have all sorts of tasty things on the table for everyone to share (or just get your own selection just for you!), they are really great at accommodating allergies too...I find it really hard to eat out anywhere these days but coming here is just amazing...they really know what they are doing! I will return as much as I can, mind blown once again and a perfect evening out,places like this make me smile...thankyou for being so awesome ❤️

For a "small plates" restaurant I was disappointed to only have a choice of 7 dishes including one dish Chorizo & pickles that is more of an assembly than a worked dish. The bread side dish was the highlight for me and the shepherd pie...

Amazing night at the old printworks. Every course we had was perfect, even down to the bread and butter! All the staff were lovely too, very good value for money considering the quality of food. Highly recommend to anyone in Cardigan looking for a fine dining experience but without the full expense of one 🙂

Absolutely brilliant restaurant. My wife and I ordered and shared all of the small plates on the menu along with bread and an amazing potato terrine side. It was all delightful. Service was efficient and friendly. Every single dish was tasty and extremely well presented. If you are anywhere within 20 miles of this place, then make a booking and go. We paid around £100 plus tip for the food, a cocktail, a cider and two lovely desserts. A steal for the quality on offer.

As soon as we walked in the door - we knew we were in for a treat.. From the sinfully "more-ish" Passionfruit martinis to the last spoonfull of dessert - it didnt disappoint. Everything was so delicious we kept sharing mouthfuls - not wanting anyone to miss out. So good we booked again for 2 nights later!!

Had the most delicious food this evening at Yr Hen Printworks. Each dish was exceptional. Creative use of flavours and textures. Out party of three enjoyed a variety of dishes. The stand out dish for me was the Roast Hake - Shellfish Bisque - Fennel - Rouille. We finished our meal off with tonka bean pana cotta which was delicious. I’ve visited before but the food just gets better and better. It really is unmissable if you visit Cardigan. Big thank you to the team for such a great job!

This is probably 'the' place to eat and be seen eating in Cardigan at the moment. Yr Hen Printworks is a charming restaurant serving small dishes that are skilfully crafted and a delight to behold (even if they are teeny weeny). A friend and I chose Yr Hen Printworks to enjoy a crafted cocktail and a bite to eat. Service was friendly - a lot of establishments these days seem to have forgotten the value of a smile and a friendly face. After enjoying a cocktail we meandered onto the small plates menu. As is the trend these days it just list ingredients, so you have to use your imagination to guess what will turn up. After selecting salmon (a tiny chunk of perfectly cured pink salmon), kedgeree arancini (small but perfectly formed spheres ideal for sharing), potato terrine (a rectangle of crunchy potato with some dark gunk) and carrots (in contrast to all the other tiny portions a mountain of spiced carrots appeared), we could pick through the delicately presented plates. It is a feast for the eyes, if not the tastebuds. This was accompanied by a delicious Romanian pinot noir from the extensive wine list. I didn't have my camera with me on this occasion, so definitely a reason to return and choose more dishes for a photo-shoot...The building is a lovely restoration of the former newspaper print works, with lots of light wood. The only downside was the acoustics and (background noise) and being sat on the galley felt a little bit out of the action - it's usually a pleasure to observe other people enjoying their meals too.

We’ve eaten in a lot of high end restaurants and this one is by far the best. Top tip, order every main dish on the menu.

Exceptional quality food coupled with exceptional service. We had a mixture of vegetarian dishes and one fish dish with two deserts between us both. I really cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Well done to the kitchen staff but also front of house. We had a fantastic time. Logan served us and looked after our dining experience. A real gem of the team!

First night in Cardigan and we came across this place early one evening. Hadn't booked but managed to get a table in the patio outside. Very friendly service and conversation from young, enthusiastic team and the manager/owner. We took all the vegan options and they were really delicious - small plates, big flavour (and decent sized portions too). Only regret - we didn't get to enjoy the interior - which looks lovely.

Was looking forward to going to the printworks but was a little disappointed. For the money we spend (and it's definitely at the more expensive end) the food was no better than average. The building is very nice and the service was excellent. No complaints at all. However, the food was a bit inconsistent. Some was definitely overseasoned and, considering the size of the menu, many of the items just didn't warrant the price. I'm sorry to be negative as I really wanted to enjoy the night but it just didn't live up to my expectations.

This is a stunning restaurant and bar in Cardigan, a must-visit if you’re in the area. The food is exceptional; lots of small plates beautifully and carefully created. We were celebrating a 50th birthday and it was fabulous. Make it your first port of callS

The surroundings, the food, the staff - all excellent. It's an old printworks building and has been beautifully and thoughtfully renovated. The food, small plates/tapas style, was all very high quality, and I see that it's very much from local producers. Wonderful flavours. and presentation....

Such a pleasure to finally find out why Yr Hen Printworks made the Michelin Guide. As a group of 10 we came to taste as many of the small plates as we could manage. What a delight ! Everyone enjoyed their food even the children...

When we arrived they’d seated us inside, because of the nice weather we asked to be outside which wasn’t a problem and was seated straight away. Good choice of wine, we didn’t go for any cocktails but they looked great from what we could see....

Fantastic evening in a lovely restaurant. Just perfect.

One of the best meals we have had in a very long time! Food and cocktails were absolutely delicious and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back, thank you.
