No frills restaurant with amazing food

Lovely place, with amazing food and service. We went for my mums 60th and they came out with a lovely cake for her. Second time we have visited when we are in Aber and it has always been a wonderful memorable visit.

Been to Aberystwyth a few times and didn't know this was here. How we have been missing out. The food was very tasty and it was good to be able to come to Wales and have Caribbean food. The portions are very good and you will not go hungry. We even had some to take away. Service was fast and friendly and we felt very welcome. We didn't pre book and were still accommodated, it was full when we left.

Fantastic food. Tasted freshly cooked, we had 2x mixed grill and 1x curried goat. Prices were really good, the mixed grill came in at £17 and that included ribs, lamb and chicken. Would highly recommend visiting.

Had an excellent evening at Mama Fay’s! We turned up on spec after a recommendation from a customer in the local micropub and were lucky to get in before the rush. Word has clearly got out because it filled up fast. Staff gave us a warm welcome and brought food and drinks with a genial informality that really helped us to relax and take in the atmosphere. We ordered prawns, ribs and calamari, followed by a jerk sharing platter for four and delightful desserts such as ginger cake and mango cheesecake. I had to try the marvellous egg nog punch. Twice. The food was delicious: perfectly cooked and perfectly spiced and seasoned. I bought a bottle of their fabulous scotch bonnet sauce that will add an exotic zing to our barbecues for the next few weeks!

Great food, but terribly understaffed on the day we went. Ordered drinks and food at the same time, after waiting for 25 mins to be served at all. Drinks arrived 45 minutes afterwards, & we waited an hour and a half for our food. Goat curry was delish. Other people arrived, ordered, ate, paid their bill and left before our food arrived.

We booked a table via online app only to find no table had actually been reserved for us. A family in front of us had booked a table also, but their table was double booked with someone else. Simply chaos and such poor organisation. I’m assured your food is amazing- unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to try it.

What a hidden gem this is. Im sure all the students know about it, but if not, why not. This was by far the best Caribbean food I've tried. Curried goat was so tasty. Main waitress was very nice even when she had to move us from our table, due to larger party due in, on to a new table.

Very, very disappointed. Been here before and the food was excellent. Night of my daughter's graduation and had a table booked, but restaurant was full. Only looking for a table for three but parties of 8 and 14 were let in before us. Obviously chasing the money at a busy time of year.

Nice little restaurant with colourful walls and Caribbean prints. Very friendly and helpful staff. We went for a couple’s dinner on 5th July. Food was tasty and nicely presented.

Tried to make a observation about one of the meals ( a hair in the salad ) we were ignored so we left without another word with the ignorant staff .

Adding to an old review from some time ago having returned again. I ordered a Jerked Spiced Humas starter, a Chicken Curry with rise and peas and a Jerk Chicken main. The food was amazing. Fresh. Homemade. Healthy. More please. It’s refreshing to enjoy quality food in Aber for a change. I’ll be coming more often and taking advantage of the takeaway option in the future.

Excellent food options even for vegetarians, I just ate Jamaican potato and vegetable curry and loved it. And such calm reggae music to listen to while I ate.

Had food here last night, didn’t book as was a last minute thing, (3 bikers passing through wales) thought we would try something a little different. Was delicious! Service was fantastic too. One noticeable thing was how fresh the chillies where, they where slices on the side and top as a garnish. (I like to eat them all) they were crisp and full of taste. Service was great also. Will be back next time passing through.

Lovely tasty food and pleasant atmosphere and staff

Some of the best and nicest food I've ever tried. I was in the area for a day trip and I seen a few reviews from this place which made me want to try, I'm so glad I did! I highly recommend to anyone that wants delicious tasty food!

Ive ordered on delivery a few times but we went in the other week when my mum was visiting and it was a great atmosphere and the chef came out and checked our food was okay which really showed they care about what they do. Highly recommend

The plantain fritters are epic...the jerk chicken and curried goat are also on point...and the Mac n cheese...so good If I am back in the area I'm dropping in Great customer service and the chef has magic hands!!

A superb Jamaican restaurant. I've worked in South London for over a decade and the curried goat here is the equal of anything you can get in Brixton. Great atmosphere and reasonable prices, an absolute winner.

The food was amazing! Ordered the taste of Jamaica platter. Large portion! Every item on the platter was delicious! Been dreaming about going there again since last time. Going in tonight.

The restaurant excels in dining and delivery, offering delicious food with friendly staff and generous portions. During my previous visit, my friend and I indulged in various sides. To our delight, the staff arranged a platter with complimentary dips, wonderfully kind gesture. I must emphasise how highly I recommend the peas and rice; it is delicious. Please try Mama Fay's.

A wonderful little restaurant with excellent service. I believe the waiter was called Callum, well that's what it said on my receipt. He was incredibly polite and attentive. The burger I had was very tasty and the guacamole was amazing. I'd definitely come back again if I was local and bring some friends with me next time.

Adding to my review from a year ago. Visiting Aber again and ordered delivery from Mama Fay's. Even better than last time. The Ackee and Saltfish is so so delicious and the dumplings still make me so happy. Definitely my favourite restaurant in town. [Last year' review: Wow, was excited to try Mama Fay's and it more than lived up to reviews. The food is not fancy but packed with flavour. I had a 4 bean chilli and genuinely don't know what magic was done to make it taste so good - and that's even before the dumplings and lime slaw which were amazing. Finished off with a Jamaican coffee (spiced and made with condensed milk). So full I may never eat again, but very happy!] Very friendly service and great value too, only good things to say here, will be back.

Absolutely gorgeous food. We had the wings and spicy prawns for starters. The curied goat and fried dumplings with rice and peas, for mains. Plantain and mango sauce. Food was excellent and didn't disapoint. Would highly recommend 👌

Amazing food, fantastic flavours. My go - to place to eat out in Aberystwyth. Had a sharing jerk platter for 2 but unfortunately I had to share as I could easily have been selfish and eaten it myself ha ha.

I had high hopes when I found this restaurant in Aberystwyth. But, sadly I found it average. I did not feel very welcome when I arrived and the service was not encouraging. The food was not especially good. I had goat curry which was okay but nothing special. I was then told there was no rice and peas ….in a CARIBBEAN restaurant / so I had plain boiled rice. At £28 ( including a beer) I expected better.

We were sat in the rear after some time, we then waited for almost half an hour before leaving and explaining to the staff that we left because we'd been ignored. The food looked good and the menu read well but sadly we didn't get to eat or drink anything.

Ordered through Deliveroo on a rare evening off from work. Jerk pork wrap and sweet potato fries, highly recommend to anyone looking for good taste and value for money.

Went here today and ordered the goat curry with pumpkin rice. Very delicious food, the curry was spiced wonderfully and the meat was very tender. The rice was perfectly cooked and flavourful. The staff were also very nice and the service was very quick - I am used to waiting 25-50 minutes for restaurant food yet it was ready in under 15. Overall I am very impressed and I would say this is one of the best restaurants in the area.

Been multiple times for pickup and once for dining inside wonderful food that's well cooked and beautifully served and lovely and friendly staff.

DO NOT EAT HERE! An overpriced greasy spoon that thinks it is gourmet. For 2 adults and child I spent £99.10 - 2 beers, 3 cokes, lemonade, 2 starters, 2 mains, 1 child's main and 1 dessert!!! I was cold inside n wore my coat! My son teased that my food looked like brains on a plate! I had no napkin. The decor and furnishings are very poor and tacky. The food tasted OK, but not special. I added £7 to bill for tip, then had to pay 10% service charge on tab and server stopped me on way out asking for 10p (must have forgotten to charge me for doggie bag)! I felt ripped off and cried when I got home!

The food was excellent, had rice and peas and curried goat. The chef was great, after an initial misunderstanding about the price list on the takeaway menu which I hope has been amended, I can happily recommend this restaurant. It's right at the centre of town to dine in or takeaway. We visited in August and thoroughly enjoyed the food.

Absolutely delicious authentic Caribbean food. Curried goat, omg so tasty Jerk chicken, out of this world. Rice and peas, best I’ve tasted. Corn fritters, beautiful. Jerk pork, so tender and tasty. Jerk and buffalo dipping sauce just amazing. Service was very quick and the waiter so polite. Just a perfect meal in lovely surroundings with a great background of reggae music. Only one suggestion, for better value maybe some chicken wings on the taste of Jamaica platter would be good.

Food was fantastic. We started with the corn fritters and sweet chili sauce. Outstanding. My husband had the jerk chicken and I had the curried chicken breast. Both dishes with sides were excellent. Highly recommend the Dark & Stormy rum cocktail. Pints were good too. It was a crazy busy Saturday night. Good thing we had reservations and they were honored promptly. Service was still very good and our orders correct despite the hectic scene.

This place is soooo delicious. I really can't recommend it enough.

The best Jamaican food in Wales. Try the Taste of Jamaica platter....wow its ace ! And the corn fritters and festival are out of this world. Chef Phil is just a genius and such a nice and humble guy.

Popped in for Lunch; had my 1st experience of Caribbean food. Lovely Plant based and meat based options so ordered both opions. Fantastic, welcoming, helpful, friendly informal service from Charlie. Had to say thank you to the chef. Food so good I ordered a goat curry to takeaway which did not disappoint. Great lunch experience, perfect mood music in an artistic setting. Definitely recommend pushing your comfort zone. This is a charming family feel restaurant.

What a great find. Just off one of the main streets in the town. A small welcoming atmosphere. The food, cooked by the owner was of a Caribbean style. New for my wife and I. The young lady who waited and served our meals was brilliant. She really helped us to select the items from an extensive menu. The menu did offer plenty of non Caribbean items. Drinks and food was sensible priced, but it was the atmosphere that completed the visit. It appeared to be popular with locals. But if in Aberystwyth you MUST try this place.

The Ackee and salt fish is excellent! There are also some very tasty Caribbean curry options. Good vibes in the restaurant including the outside seating. Service is friendly and accurate.

OMG! Genuinely the best meal out I've had in forever. Fresh, homemade food with excellent service. Couldn't fault anything.

Very disappointed, can't be Jamaican food... only a little of chicken maybe 100gr the chicken breast, soggy stuffing under the chicken, yorkshire pudding exposed as a ..omelette, half plate.. better see the picture. ...without flavour..chips? No, old roast potatoes, hard and dry seems cooked 5 days ago.. I just can say, it was the first and last time..spent 40£ for very bad quality of food also I get sick after this meal! Bad luck choose this place!

Very bad food, chicken a little piece I still not know what part was of chicken if they serve maybe 100gr of chicken, stuffing very soggy, roast potatoes hard and old seems pre heated more than 3 times, hard and old... 38£ for very bad food served for 2 persons and beer, we pay for very bad quality of food... just to forget! I don't recommend.. I have pictures but I it's not allowed download... I just can say very disappointed also the food they served can't be Jamaican!

Lovely little place, i was a little aprehensive at first as this is beyond my typical simplistic tastes but the food was delicious (I had jerked pork with rice) and not overly spicy. They have good vegan options too, my sister is vegan and had no trouble finding food and said it was lovely! Our server was very friendly and welcoming which made the whole experience much better and the prices are very reasonable. I would recommend you give this place a try if you're looking for something different. They also offer take-away if you want to eat at home!

Found this wonderful place while looking for somewhere else. So glad we changed our plans. The service was absolutely fantastic, and the clearly freshly made food was excellent! Plenty of vegan options for both of us. We ate far too much, but couldn't resist. Vegetable curry; pumpkin rice; bean burger; and lime slaw; plus fried dumplings, which were so good, but I think the 'Festival' dumplings may have been even better. Maybe next time. Oh, and we had the cinnamon banana cake and sticky ginger cake for dessert too. No wonder we were stuffed!!

Arguably the best restaurant in Aberystyth in terms of food quality. Top Tier. Decent prices as well. Personally recommend the curry and the mac and cheese. It's on another level.

Mama Fay's is an amazing place for truly delicious Caribbean food. And the staff are exceptional. Giving a shout-out to our wonderful waitress, Charlie, for her kindness and stellar service. We can't wait to visit again on our next vacation!!!!

Disappointed as we walked 10 minutes to order a takeaway just to be told that they stop serving at 21:30 when there closing times said 22:00. We waited out side from 21:25 to order a takeaway to be told 7 minutes later were closing

Superb food, great service, with every penny. The jerk pork was delicious as was everything else and I can heartily recommend the corn fritters, Mac & cheese, and the rice and peas. My wife ordered the scotch bonnet sauce, she can handle the heat, and I have to say try it, the flavour is incredible, it's not just hot. If you're in Aber and looking for a delicious feed this should be to of your list.

Our first time with Caribbean cuisine and we were not disappointed! The service was perfect, very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The food was excellent and a special mention goes to the corn fritters - I'd have shipped a bag of these back to Wiltshire if I could have :-) Thoroughly recommend especially if you love spicy food as some of the dishes nail this aspect. Well done - can't wait to return.

Booked a table for a Friday night as it was close to our apartment. Wasn't necessary as fairly quiet all night. Shared corn fritters with cumin and lime yoghurt to start. They were OK but the lime and cumin didn't come through. I had ordered a tamarind chicken dish off the specials board but was later told it had sold out. Had to ask to see the menu again. Both enjoyed our main courses : jerk pork with rice and peas and curried goat with pumpkin rice. With a bottle of wine the bill came to just over £50. Would return to try other dishes.

Walking through the town we came across this gem - and very glad we did. Sat down to an amazing plate of Jerk Pork with rice, sides of plantain, and a cold drink. Just what is needed in life - soul food. Wish there were more of these in every village, town & city.

We passed this place last time we went to Aber and were excited to see a Caribbean resturant and vowed to return to try it. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. Both coming from a Jamaican family background and living in cities where carribean food is easily accessible maybe didn't help this resturant, because this was nothing like what we'd expect. The jerk chicken was flavourless with no spice whatsoever, it was as if they'd put a paste over the chicken and put it in the oven. The pumpkin rice was also flavourless, hard and had clearly been over re-heated. My partner had the jerk chicken ciabatta, and thank goodness we'd asked for table water because it was dry and again not seasoned. The plantain fritters were doughy and the mango sauce was too strong to go with it as it eradiacted any flavour that was in the fritters. The Mac & Cheese was a joke, literally i couldnt stop lauging but at £6.50 the joke was on us. It was a bowl of spiral pasta with melted cheese on top. The best part of the meal was my partners chips and my lime slaw, which even that after a while got too much to eat. A waste of money!

Visited here for the first time last night and the experience was good! It was quite busy and there were only two waitresses working so took quite a while for them to come and take our order but we were in no rush so that was ok. I have coeliac disease so when ordering I told the waitress that I required gluten free and she was very friendly and was aware of coeliac which was fantastic! She said she would make them aware of it in the kitchen which was very reassuring. Lots of items on their menu are clearly labeled with a GF symbol which is always great. I had the Jamaican potato and veg curry which was delicious and packed with amazing flavours! My partner had the jerk pork and he said that it was a very very tasty meal too! Will definitely be coming back here again!

This was the worst Caribbean place I've ever eaten, personally I think they are imposter. The food resembles nothing of Caribbean/Jamaican cuisine. I ordered curry goat and got pieces of meat and cubes of onions,the meat tasted like the goat still had it's skin and running around the pen,my partner ordered aki and salt fish but received a bowl of vegetables, having to look for the fish or taste of it,my daughter ordered grilled chicken which was almost burnt and very dry with no flavour. Servings were very small, an adult would need two or more plates be be satisfied, prices are an extortion. NEVER WILL I EAT THERE AGAIN!!! AND I ADVICE THAT YOU DON'T TOO,I PROMISE YOU WILL REGRET IT.

Really amazing food, and lovely service. We were greeted at the door and got shown to our tables, with clear explanations of the menu, recommendations and where to locate the specials board. Made sure there wasn't any cinnamon in my food as I have an allergy to it. We ordered the Taste of Jamaica platter for 2 and it definitely didn't dissapoint! We also ordered dumplings and plantains as a side and they were also just as great. I've never tried plantains till today and they're really nice actually! It's like a fried banana but tastes like a potato, trust me it's nicer than it sounds! 😁 Overall just a really nice place to eat! And would go there again if in the area (as we're not local) !

The food was lovely. However the service was quite disappointing. The guy that seated us was lovely and helpful but the women who was front of house was not very welcoming. We where kept waiting outside and then rushed out the door half an hour before the close of business. The bill was presented before we finished eating, without checking if any further drinks or sweets where required. Very disappointing indeed.

Delicious food and spoilt for choice. The special yesterday was plantain frittas and those were absolutely delicious. And the jerk chicken was great. The bean burger is an interesting vegan alternative that I enjoyed eating. If you're still hungry after that try the sticky ginger cake for pudding!

We selected Jerk Wings, Corn Fritters and Goat Curry. The Goat Curry was the star of the show. Service was good. Food certainly had Caribbean flavour.

Disappointed that the lunch menu is really restrictive and excludes most of the dishes you'd want from a Caribbean place. The service was not good and it took an incredibly long time to get our food despite us being the only people in there. The food was average at best and it was accompanied by a LOT of flies. Not an experience I'm keen to repeat.

Had a brilliant meal here during our holiday. The staff work so flippin hard as it got very busy so they are a credit to you :-) I had THE best goat curry of my life and I've had it many times. This was spot on heat wise too. My husband had the chips which are homemade and we were fighting over ha! My only little comment would be on the beer/cider options. I 100% expect to see Jamaican lager/stout etc but maybe something local would be nice too. Club Tropicana by Tiny Rebel would go very well will the spicy food. On the cider front it really does make me a bit sad ordering a Magners so would recommend stuff from Gwynt y Ddraig, Black Dragon is a fav in the area :-) Really brilliant little place so very glad you are doing so well.

I have been to many Caribbean restaurants but this has by far been the best for tasty Caribbean food! Me and my mum had the Jerk chicken and Curry Goat which was amazing, and the plantain fritters! The service was also amazing! I highly recommend...

We come here at least once every time we're in Aber because it's just so good, the food is amazing, possibly the best in town, the atmosphere is great and the prices are more than reasonable, if you're reading this you really should go it's worth it!

Feel bad giving this 4 instead of 5 stars. The waitresses were lovely, but they forgot to open our bottle of wine, forgot my pudding and I over heard the couple next to us, who had the wrong order. Food was great though and the staff were really sweet. Just a bit forgetful.

Excellent. First visit to a Caribbean restaurant, and loved the excellent value and high quality food, along with excellent and friendly service. Started with corn fritters served with sweet chilli dip - one was a bit gloopy but the other two excellent, crisp and well-flavoured,...

Excellent food, really enjoyed it. Service was a little slow to start, but once we got our starters the rest followed quickly - highly recommend.
