We visited the pub that is located in this hotel twice this week. It can only be described as an extraordinary experience. The kitchen is fantastic! This goes for both the Thai as well as the Welsh food. The beer is great, the atmosphere could not be better. The locals are extremely friendly and make you feel welcome as a tourist. The area around is beautiful, the scenery breath taking. What an awesome place! Apart from one other pub we visited during our holidays, this is definitely the best pub we have been to in Wales. To be honest, this is potentially the best pub I have ever visited anywhere.

We had a lovely one night stay. It's a great location for accessing the Eryri Nation Park Trail of Cwm Penamnnen. The staff welcomed us immediately and let us in to our room an hour early, which was nice! We were here on a Wednesday night, and the food on the menu was Thai. It was very authentic Phad Thai and Thai green curry - and extremely delicious! Our breakfast in the morning was wonderful as well! The owner let us leave our bags for the morning for our hike and welcomed us to stay in the bar while we waited our afternoon train. It was very nice of her 😊 A very cute place to stay and very welcoming. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for somewhere to stay in Dolwyddelan!

What an absolute little gem and where to start with a good review. Arrived hour early and no issues checking in, grabbed 2 ales which were lovely and worth every penny. Shown to room which was big, all new fixtures and fittings, and spotlessly clean. All staff friendly and her helpful. Last but no means least the food was to die for. Chefs special of spicy beef with fresh vegetables, rice, and oriental soup was amazing. Wifes prawn thai curry equally as delicious. Compliments to the chef. Definitely recommend and would book again. Thank you for an amazing stay. Robert and Sophia Hewitt Room 2

Really friendly pub on first arrival. Traditional with lots of space to eat or drink with a family or with dogs. We found a table right by the large fireplace to have our evening meal. The menu looked a little basic at first glance but the food was absolutely delicious and presented with great care. The owner of the pub and chef we understood is a Thai lady - hence the food was really good. Highly recommended the Beef Pie with peas and gravy!

We normally stay and dine in nearby Betws-Y-Coed but this time chose Y Gwydyr in Dolwyddelan because we wanted different walks from our ‘front door’ and had heard great things about the village. We were not disappointed. From the moment of booking we received a lovely, polite communication and when I messaged the hotel, the owner, Namthip (Thai heritage) responded swiftly. On arriving in the bar Namthip and the locals in there were all very welcoming and engaging. Gone are the days of walking into a pub and being stared at and hearing a pin drop - not here; a warm and friendly welcome by all! Even though we were early our room was ready and Namthip showed us up to it. Lovely and clean, soft towels, full bottled Radox toiletries and the whole place smelt amazing! After a few drinks outside (very reasonably priced) and a chat with a local (thank you Mark for the local info!) we headed inside for dinner. My partner had the Welsh beef pie and I had one of Namthip’s special Thai dishes (Thai night is usually Wednesdays) but there is usually a Thai special on each night. Both meals were delicious and very hot! We couldn’t recommend it highly enough. We had a starter each, main each and a bottle of red and it cost just under £60! Service was great too (thank you Beth)! Breakfast was equally superb - see pic! I can’t recommend this place enough - both to stay and eat! Give it a go and skip the bigger hotels in Betws and stay in a traditional Welsh village with great views and walks from the front door with far less people and no crowds - you won’t be disappointed! 😃

Beautiful old pub with so much character. We have visited twice on one day. First early afternoon coffee and cheeky drink before checking in to our accommodation and then in the evening for a dinner. Both visits were great and definitely memorable. Service was spot on, we've been looked after from the beginning. Great selection of drinks and very reasonable prices. Food is very good, freshly made by the owner, generous portions, great selection and again good prices. Pub was very busy in the evening, local residents and tourist, but no one was send away, owners found the spaces for everyone. every single person was fed and watered :) Fireplace was on full swing, warm and cosy. I'm sure we will come back next time we're in the area. Thank you for your hospitality :)

A real pub with real people, packed with big characters. Welsh is the first language of the village and is used freely in the pub, however, everyone is included and welcomed. Beer is really well priced for those wanting a bargain, less than £3 for bitter and the homemade meals are great value with the best chips in Wales, basic but tasty and plentiful. Spent two evenings here and I loved the place and the people, they don't make an effort to include you just feel immediately included. Great banter. There was a wide spectrum of people from a Scouser to a Czech lady and English settlers, In this mix the Welsh language was alive and well. The free-flowing humour between everyone gave the place its infectious character. Particular thanks to Peter and Sarah who run it, (Sarah's chips were slightly better :)) Ellen the barmaid was such great fun. If you would go to Paris and drink in an Irish bar then this place may not be for you, if you want to go to Wales and drink in a proper pub with proper people then roll your sleeves up and go in for a couple of pints, it will be an experience!

Visited this traditional country pub on the day we were viewing a property. So welcoming we stayed for dinner. The home cooked dinner was so nice I ordered it again and had seconds!! No comparison to the month we've just spent in America, dreadful food. Since been back and spent many hours and dinners here, we're almost locals now haha. Yes the fag butt's outside are dire but that's down to disrespectful smokers that think it's acceptable!

Came here for dinner on the off chance there would be availability since we couldn’t get through to book on the phone. We arrived and were told it would be a 40 min wait for food, since 1 table of 4 has ordered before us… We got drinks to pass the time, served with sparing ice but fine all the same. Fortunately the food arrived in under 30 mins, but unfortunately it wasn’t up to the standard expected. The curry was ok, but looked very unappetising and the lasagne was clearly reheated under a grill and looked past its best. Portion sizes however were decent. Coming from a small village, it’s obviously valued for its charm and authenticity but I wouldn’t recommend it as a regular stop. Probs won’t be returning.

Such a shame as this little village pub has huge potential. Seriously lacking in some TLC, decor, cleaning. Everywhere we looked were cigarette ends, weeds, general disrepair. If you're going to have hanging baskets, weed them and put flowers in! Or take them down. The pub was full of dogs, and being only a small place, it felt like we were trapped in a kennel. Food was very below par and although it's menu says 'homemade' I doubt that very much. Personally I'd sack any cook that declared that as homemade. I'd know boil in the bag rice and tinned meat anywhere. The bread was so hard I'm sure I've chipped a tooth! The vegetarian option had probably been found at the bottom of the freezer and tasted and smelt quite old. As there are quite a few excellent reviews, maybe the regular cook was ill? But I'd never go again. Worst meal out we've ever had.

Meeting long lost family from the States staying in the village, we were tired after a long day visiting local sights, and so settled to eat at Y Gwydir. I'd not been there for about 10 years and was pleased to see how clean and well decorated it was. It busy with locals in the bar, and lovely to see Ellen, whom I'd known many years before, coping so professionally behind the bar! Our food was plentiful, and mine certainly well cooked - my cottage pie was more than enough for me, and was the very best I had ever eaten! The only very minor downside was that they had run out of peas to accompany it, so I had to settle for sweetcorn, of which there was far too much! If I'd thought at the time, I would happily have run over to the village shop opposite and brought back a pack of frozen peas!!

I know some on here have said don't let the decor put you off, and I know these are hard times for smaller pubs, but I couldn't bring myself to do anything more than have a couple of quite unremarkable pints from a sparsely-stocked bar. The pub has a magnificent beamed ceiling but the rest is badly in need of attention and the place just didn't feel comfortable - and the atmosphere was zero. Has to be said, the food I saw being served did look good but the guy serving it didn't exactly fill me with confidence. I like lots of different types of pubs, however basic, but I struggled to find any redeeming features in this one. Like I acknowledged, these are hard times - hopefully this village pub has a future.

Another visit to this lovely site and this brilliant restaurant. The food is always gorgeous and tasty. The staff are really friendly and always make you feel so welcome. We had two evening meals there and a Sunday Roast which was simply the best we have ever tasted. So you can imagine our shock and horror when we were told that the bar and restaurant is to knocked down to accomodate two more mobile homes. This is an absolute travesty and will be a huge loss to the site. In fact a site with zero facilities will not be top of my list in the future. Thanks to Mo and the team for doing such a brilliant job.

Service and food were both amazing. I had the seafood linguine and my husband had the John dory which was both delicious. We then had a cheese board to share with a complementary port. Harry the waiter was so friendly and recommended the port with the cheese board. It was our 10th wedding anniversary and we are so glad we spent it at Telfords bistro. Thank you all, we will definitely be back
