Y Bwyty Bach at Tretower Court in Powys

We popped in for lunch after a visit to Tretower Castle. Unexpected delight. The food choices were great, many options. It was delicious food and beautifully presented. The staff were all friendly. We were sitting outside as we had our dog with us, but were told it was fine to bring him upstairs as it looked like it might rain. Proper food made by a proper chef.

Visited on many occasions. Very pleased previously but on this occasion the food was under cooked. We gave them the opportunity to put it right but unfortunately it came back the same. Waitress staff were extremely helpful but unfortunately let Down by the kitchen.

Is no longer a restaurant but is now only a bar.

Say it’s open till 16.00, but kitchen closes way earlier (at 14:20).

Gets offended when you mention something as simple as the kitchen closing time. Weird behavior. Big boo.

Best place for lunch in the Beacons. Have been there many times; the food is always freshly and beautifully cooked. Prices are a bargain.

Amazing little restaurant tucked away in a wonderfully restored, historic building. The food was full of flavour and reasonably priced, for the quality. I jad the pork to start and can’t recommend enough.

What a delightful discovery when visiting the Midsummer Fayre. Probably the most comfy chairs I’ve ever sat on in a cafe, in wonderful surroundings. Simple menu, extensive wine list, delightfully presented tea! Accessible via lift or stairs. Friendly and efficient staff. Looking forward to a return visit and the castle/court isn’t bad either!

Limited menu for a late breakfast but the sandwiches were delicious. The coffee and walnut cake was yummy too but a bit too expensive.

We were just passing by (Ar 2023), looking for a place to grab a quick bite on a Thursday evening and came across this absolutely gem of a restaurant. At the time they were serving only 6 course taster menu. This was one of the nicest meals we have ever had. Truly!!! Every bite is so thought of and made to perfection. Will definitely go back and take our family too. Service - caring and friendly but not fussy! Beautiful relaxing atmosphere in a converted barn. A must try!

What a wonderful surprise this place was to our weekend in Crickhowell. I did not expect this standard of food or service. Had the taster menu and just everything was delicious and perfectly thought out and made… Every element of the meal, right down to the butter, really was exceptionally good. Looking forward to my next visit!

Myself and partner had an outstanding evening at Y Bwty Bach. The whole evening from start to finish was exceptional. The surroundings, atmosphere and staff only added to the very high standard of food. Every single course that we had on the taster menu was exceptional. Thank you for the perfect evening, we are already looking for an excuse for another visit.

It’s been a long time since I’ve experienced such a high standard of service and professional care with attention to detail presented by the waiting staff members. Welcoming, charming and a thorough knowledge of each dish they served us. The staff obviously take pride in their service which is rare these days. First class. The six courses we experienced were individually divine. Each one with its unique presentation and mouthwatering flavours. We enjoyed every course and tried dishes we would have shied away from prior to our visit bur as it was a Set menu we embraced each dish and became more adventurous in the process. The whole experience was a delight. What an incredible place made even more special by its impeccable quality of food, Uniqueness and high standard of service. It was a Valentines night we will cherish. Thank you

Had lunch there today, slow service, had soup which was very good. Very disappointed that the bread was bog standard sliced white bread, ie cardboard. Several good bakery’s in the area, so no excuse. One couple left before ordering as service so slow.

Had some lunch at the cafe today. Yes, it does feel quite exclusive and the staff were excellent. However, we do feel that soup should come with bread and that an extra £2.50 for two slices of white bread is expensive. Many cafes now accommodate dogs and we did feel that this should have been the case here.

This restaurant is a FIND. Small, intimate, quiet location just off the A479 at Tretower village, great service & menu, large free car park, and its high wood beam ceiling gives it great acoustics for quiet conversation. Even though its a 29 hour flight + 4hr drive from my home in Melbourne Australia, we're definitely going back.

Had a fantastic Christmas Eve lunch, delicious food and brilliant service. Credit to the chef for working over the holiday period and providing such a beautiful menu!

Excellent food and service - throughly recommend.

Food was amazing, so difrent and tha staff very helpful and obliging. Only complain was the room was cold. I know we have had a sudden drop in temperature but I had to wear my coat while eating but can be easily remedied so don't let this put you of going to this little gem of a place .

Beautiful setting in a old barn (if a little chilly). Food was absolutely outstanding - incredibly well balanced dishes and very reasonably priced given the quality.

Absolutely superb on every level. A beautiful building in stunning surroundings. The staff were utterly charming and the FOOD! We had a simple lunch but every mouthful was a taste sensation. Newly opened, I guarantee this place will win multi awards. It is an intimate space so will get booked out.I spoke to the 3 very young chefs - one of which I discovered was the owner and head chef. SO impressed. I wish them all the luck in the world. The most wonderful treat and worth every penny!

We visited Y Bwyty Bach for our anniversary last night and had a lovely evening. The restaurant is in a beautiful setting with fantastic views of welsh countryside along side Tretower Court & Castle. The building itself is unique and we loved admiring the original features which had been kept. The food was some of the best I’ve had, we loved all the dishes but especially the tunworth and sourdough crumpet, I was hoping I’d have room for another one at the end of the evening, maybe next time! The staff were polite, attentive and friendly, one of the servers was happy to accommodate me when I asked for a cocktail which wasn’t on their menu which I really appreciated. I felt every aspect of the restaurant was very well thought out, I liked the positioning of the seating for tables of two, as appose to being sat opposite each other, tables are positioned so you can sit next to each other, which made it easy to converse with your partner and share plates. The petit fours with our “happy anniversary” message in chocolate was such a lovely touch. My only small criticism would be the music. Although by the end of the evening it wasn’t so noticeable, “in da club” seemed an odd choice given the setting and for the first half of the evening I found the music distracting, however I don’t feel this should effect my rating as everything else was impeccable.

Incredible food and a beautiful location

We were disappointed with our lunch experience. There seemed to be 4 people in the kitchen but only one person taking orders and making drinks. Progress of the queue was painfully slow. I had a good soup but I've never ordered soup in any restaurant and not received some kind of bread with it. Disappointingly small lunch selection.

We had a fabulous meal at y bwyty bach tonight. We booked it as an early anniversary meal and also to celebrate my husbands birthday. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. The duck and mash were to die 4. Connor absolutely smashed it. Can't wait to return in the very near future 👍

Yes 5star food service and location this restaurant is a hidden gem set in the historic surrounding’s of a Norman Castle, the restaurant is in an oak beamed barn, The food is amazing, we had the starter menu, which is six courses of tasty food to have us talking over every dish! Conner you have a show case for your talent keep on surprising us ! Must mention front of house and staff who add the the experience! 👍
