Have been to Wolseys for dinner a few times and food is always great, however booked for a Sunday Lunch and upon arrival noticed the stairs to go the restaurant weren't there, asked at the bar and was told upstairs is closed on a Sunday. This was very much a surprise given it was a Sunday I would have expected the restaurant to be open. We ended being seated by 3 hungover young ladies, one of which looked like she was sleeping on the seat, we then had football fans on our other side who were watching the match and using bad language. This really put a dampener on our visit with our 2 year old, not ideal by any means. Even if a section was closed off for people eating that would make it a bit better. Although I would much rather have been told we were going to be sitting in the bar for a family lunch and I would've cancelled the booking as it was a special occasion that was impacted by this whole scenario. However, food was nice and would return if it was in the restaurant.

As we hadn't been for a long time we decided to give it a go and were pleasantly surprised. We were offered a nice table by the fire with views overlooking the main street. The staff were very friendly, I ordered the steak sandwich and my partner went for the triple roast. Both excellent choices as it turned out. My steak was tasty, suculent & perectly cooked, also I had a substantial portion of nice seasonal vegetables to accompany it. My partner's roast was also good quality and the trimming perfect. The room was a relaxing place to dine. Overall we were very satisfied with the food and service, so much so that we've returned again and will be using the upstairs restaurant again in the future.

This review is basically about the Monday nite pub quiz more than anything else 🤷🏻♂️ Where do you start with a review of a quiz well ere we go, fun fun and brilliant craic 🙌 The atmosphere is always buzzing and the banter lively with the bar staff joining in.. I really don’t care if I win or not, well to be honest I have to say that because we never win but we’re usually competitive fighting for last place 😁🙈 The quiz is well produced and run using iPads with a wide and varied range of topics, all well researched with a lot of head scratching and pints of Smithwicks 🍻 Hey don’t take my word for it, call in and enjoy the banter, Wots the worst can happen, ull leave with knowledge 👌

Restaurant recommended by my mum because we wanted to try something new. Staff were lovely and accommodating however the food was awful ordered prawn to start they tasted like nothing, soggy and watery. Ordered fish and chips for main the fish was grey. My boyfriend ordered pasta which came with rubbery chicken. Staff were very understanding and apologetic. Disappointing because it was recommended. Hopefully the chefs resolve this issue :(

The atmosphere is good enough at Wolsleys with great music and usually a half decent pint. That said, I wouldn’t recommend there if you like cocktails. My girlfriend ordered two Espresso Martinis which I think came to £14. So, not too expensive although I would rather have paid more if it meant getting a drink that we would have enjoyed. As the Espresso Martinis we’re served, I thought we were being given a fancy glass of gravy or Bovril. Eventually, we ended up having to buy another two drinks instead. I’m sure we’ll return back as it is a great pub, but will probably stay clear of cocktails 🥴

Seen online advert for racing on TV at Wolsey's the home of sport went with wife and grown up son to have a meal few drinks and watch the racing, no racing on any of the many screens explained why we were there and asked for the racing to be shown reply had to talk to a manager, manager appeared, ok but only on one screen put the racing on the screen near to us, I asked can we have some volume no was the reply we are listening to music! I looked around the empty bar and said no one here is listening, I asked for the main manager he appeared and said no sound on the racing as some families where coming later, I said we would have to go elsewhere and left the empty bar. Surely we didn't ask for to much, how about cater for customers ho are already on the premises and not for some who may be coming later, I left feeling very embarrassed in front of my wife and son, Wolsey's must be doing very well when the can force customers to leave over something like this.

Went for a meal tonight and it's one of the last nights of the help out scheme so it was busy which we knew it would be at our table we had 3 adults and one 2 year old we had a lovely booth in their upstairs restaurant which is beautiful looking there was 4 members of staff on and there was a bit of a wait to get drinks orders which didn't bother us because we were chatting so much but might have bothered other people we are told we could only have the table for 1hr and 45mins when we arrived as there was an other booking in which again didn't bother us until we where waiting for our order to be taken we had to call someone over as it had been about 30/45mins to be told it would be an other 15mins as the kitchen was trying to large tables out first but because we were on a time limit we had to say it wasn't good enough as then we wouldn't have time to eat so the girls were great moved a few table bookings around for us so they didn't need our table back at all which was brilliant and we could then relax... food wise everyone else food at my table was beautiful there was fish and chips munkfish tacos and crab spaghetti all beautiful but I ordered the spicy lobster roll it was cooked fine ect but it wasn't spicy at all and it was like bits of lobster in a hotdog roll mixed in like a prawn cocktail sauce now if that's what the menu had said I would have been very happy but I was expecting something in nicer bread and maybe like a spicy Thai kinda sauce would maybe just word the menu differently so people know exactly what they are getting but maybe it's just me being fussy anyway the rest was amazing service was good

Came with a group of friends for food and drinks during the corona virus pandemic, due to the pandemic you could not order drinks at the bar (it was table service meaning the staff were supposed to come to the tables to get your drink orders) currently as I write this review me and my friends have waited over half an hour (who knows how long we will still be waiting). Not only have we waited so long but I have went to the bar and asked can we get some service to be told they would come to me (20 mins ago). Also asked a waiter twice while walking past can we get some drinks ordered to be ignored. On top of all this the waiter (who looks more like a manager then a normal waiter) that I have asked twice has went to every other table atleast 2/3 times to see if they needed anything except are table. Absolute joke of service, we will definitely not be back. Awful, awful service!! I’m never one to write a review (this is my first ever one because I’m usually quite chill but this is a disgrace!)

Went with 7 day centre clients, ordered specials to be approached by manager who said" just to let you know specials not available on fridays to which I replied I rang. Well it's not on! With a poor attitude and making me feel like I was lying. To which I replied you need to speak to your staff for giving out wrong info. Sorely disappointed as we were all looking forward to a special treat out.Safe to say we wont be back and will not be reccommending solely on the attitude of manager. We had just arrived in the town centre after one and a half hours cycling, and very much in need of both refreshment and a warm environment in which to enjoy it.We could not have been more fortuitous in finding Wolsey's just a few steps up from the bottom of the High Street. As we crossed the threshold we were met by the most glorious roaring open fire that immediately cheered our chilly frames. This serendipitous mood was then further boosted by first, a most refreshing and rehydrating pint of lager, then second, the excellent lunches served by the very welcoming and cheerfully chatty host. Our meals both hit the proverbial spot and, it must be said, were an absolute bargain at £7.95 apiece. I would urge anyone with a modicum of ravenousness to get on down to Wolsey's at lunchtime and you will be surely sated with good wholesome food while basking in the glow of a winter-dispelling blaze, and for possibly less ££s than a paltry fast food offering.Well done Wolsey's, you have it just right with a most hospitable ambience, genial staff and satisfying food. I will definitely call again when in town.

The interior was clean, comfortable and sympathetically decorated but it would have been nice to have places with smaller tables for small groups instead of large booth areas. A kind gentleman booked the table for us earlier in the day from the street and we were warmly welcomed by two lovely waiting/bar staff later that evening. We had the two course meal and bottle of wine and the food was lovely. Only fault I would have with the restaurant is the outside appearance, we booked here as alot of other places in the area were full but I would go back here again and again if I was in the area, the restaurant upstairs is lovely.

We sat downstairs in the bar & were glad we had booked a table because it was packed when we arrived at 730pm. I ordered the Chicken firecracker pitta pocket which the server said was very popular & not too spicy. It was delicious. My partner ordered from the Sunday menu 2 courses for £14.95 & had the roast beef followed by apple crumble with homemade custard & ice cream! So tummy’s full we stayed & watched the live entertainment. Resident girl band Impact followed by the main event Robbie tribute who was very good. I booked the Restaurant for a group of about 12 friends for a first visit tonight. There were a variety of meals ordered, a few starters, and generally everyone was happy with their food, but we had to wait over an hour for it. It was a very quiet Weds night with few other guests, so we were puzzled at the delay. We accepted that as only a few of our number were getting starters, that there would be some wait, but surely our main meals would have been in the process of being prepared?

Had lunch in the downstairs bar today. What can I say......dreadful. I opted for the " chicken and ham pie with veg"...... as stated on the menu. I also ordered chunky chips. The meal arrived with "pie" being served in a small deep dish which contained a pile of slop with an overcooked round pastry disc on top..... this is not a pie!!!! When I cut into it it was so sloppy and the pastry so overcooked that the filling spilt out everywhere and it was impossible to eat from the dish.... I tipped it onto my plate and all I can say is it resembled runny chicken soup with a few peas..... it was disgusting and I couldn't eat it. The chunky chips were awful too. Oh, and the veg that was mentioned on the menu was a slop of mash on the side! My husbands lasagne was also poor.... I will not be back!

booked for 40th birthday party - PRE ORDERED FOOD- NEED TO STRESS THAT-We arrived on time, except 3 members of the party who were 10 minutes late, so we got a bit of attitude from a male waiter, even though we kept waiter informed of when the final 3 people would arrive. When we complained we had been waiting over 40 mins for food!!! Even though it was all pre-ordered- EVENTUALLY after waiting 1 hour 40 mins for food to arrive we got mains but no sides (which were pre-ordered too). We kept asking where the side orders where, to again be met with attitude from same male staff member. Side orders came when everyone had finished their mains!!! They obviously wanted us out asap so we weren't even asked if we wanted any tea/coffee or desserts. Was a catastrophe from start to finish. In all fairness, the food itself wasn't too bad - but it was like Ramsey's kitchen nightmares in terms of the staff's attitude towards customers and their obvious inability to communicate with those working in the kitchen.

We had a 2-star experience but I've given the third star for the sheer comedy value. We were a party of 10, including visitors to N Ireland, an acquaintance booked the table in the restaurant upstairs. We were seated at the other end of a long room from another party, a party celebrating a birthday. No other diners were there when we arrived. We were greeted and seated by a cheery waiter. The place settings were the wrong way round, but who could mind that?We re-organised our cutlery etc.The cheery waiter took drink orders and gave out menus, explaining the mussels and scallops were off. This was a disappointment as the dishes featuring them looked very promising. The cheery waiter brought the drinks, promptly. Everyone but me got large gins, drat my medication for enforcing my abstention. The group at the other end of the room sing a chorus of Happy Birthday.A nearby table was taken by parents and an 8-10 year-old. We ordered starters: 3 of us decided to share the large-size salt and chilli chicken, we were given honey chilli chicken. One of us got the chowder, which contained mussels...we decided maybe they must be the last of the mussels. The child at the nearby table was served an enormous bowl of mussels. Why? Were we not worthy?Did the parents call ahead and pre-order every mussel in the kitchen (except for the 2 that went into the chowder)? We caught the cheery waiters attention: Was this meant to be Salt and Chilli Chicken?Apparently there wasn't any Salt & Chilli Chicken, the kitchen did its own thing and 'sometimes what was on the menu didn't look like what you got'. Re-branding was mentioned. It was a Basil Fawlty-worthy performance. The main courses were delivered. The waiter was still totally cheery, but he was assisted by a waitress whose manner was rather dour. Mostly we got what we had ordered, but alas, one of us had asked for his fish not to be smothered in sauce and to be served with plain mash on the side, but was offered the version on the menu, a sauce covered tower of fish on mash. The error was explained to the waitress:You wanted it without the sauce? (waitress, in tones of amazement and disbelief)Did you order it without the sauce? (waitress switches to the threatening interrogative)Waitress departs with rejected dish, and an offended expression on her face, while her back and walk project disapproval. Our party is overcome with mirth.Meanwhile the group at the other end of the restaurant breaks into a raucous chorus of Happy Birthday. Clearly drink has been taken. They sing it again. The naked fish arrives, so unbelievably quickly it must have been sitting ready in the kitchen, as ordered. We enjoy our main courses, which are tasty but more good bar food than small restaurant standard. Some of us needed puddings. The menu offered the usual sticky toffee pudding, cheesecake etc and a Morelli's ice cream selection. This is what N Ireland seaside is about: NI-made ice cream! I ask the waitress about choice of flavours, she fixes me with a steely look. There is no choice, the kitchen provides the selection. How silly of me to ask!I should have stopped there, but no: Gentle reader, I ordered it.The ice cream came in a sort of rounded glass jar, from which the screw top had, blessedly, been omitted. There was vanilla and chocolate and a chocolate flake which was OK, I do feel there is nothing that extra chocolate can't improve. There was a green flavour. I ate my way down to it, anticipating an 'Mmm Pistachio!' moment, but, as I reached it, I realised that low-lighting, my poor eye-sight, and a burst of optimism at odds with my experience of the meal so far, had played an awful trick...it was a sort of turquoise..What sort of a place serves Bubble Gum ice cream to a grown woman???? It was horrible!I spooned it into my water glass, hoping the waitress wouldn't find out and make me clear my plate....I can't believe I laughed about everything. Indeed the whole party suffered considerable amusement.I can't recall when I last had a meal like this.Yet I can't advise avoiding the place, because it wasn't a bad meal and who knows what will happen in the next episode!

We were in Bangor over Easter making a documentary film. We happened to call in here on a cold wet Good Friday night - any port in a storm?! And very glad that we did. The very friendly staff made us welcome near a warm fire in the bar. From a slightly limited Good Friday menu, the food was tasty, and with a bottle of very reasonable house wine, we enjoyed ourselves very much without breaking the bank. It was so good, we went back the next night after a very tiring day working in the cold and wind. This time went upstairs to the restaurant and we were welcomed again by the same friendly people. We chose from the full menu and had two lovely dinners and another bottle of good wine. Food, service and ambiance all hit the spot.

Called in with family for a few drinks, the grey haired man who I assume was the manager is extremely rude and shouldn't be in this position as he has no customer service or manners at all. As I was ordering he decided to try and make little of me to his 'friends' at the bar. Wouldn't return in a hurry

Stopped into this typical little pub on our way home from Bangor. Very dated interior but makes it quite quaint in an old traditional pub type of style. Not the cleaniest but guess that's all part of the experience!Ordered 2 adult and 1 children meal and kids meals come free, so that was great. Service was friendly and good and food was reasonable, my plaice was lovely. Then got up to take my daughter to the bathroom whilst my husband went to move the car and when I returned from the loo our table had been cleared and some other people were at our table. Suppose that shows how popular the place is, lol!Overall, the meal was good and the staff friendly, so can't knock it - typical wee Norn Irish pub meal out.

Great bar lunch. Chose four starters as we wanted nibbly food rather than a 'big meal' as we had dinner booked in the evening. Great portions and very tasty. Sports on tv and good atmosphere. Friendly staff. A tad pricey, (especially spirits) but maybe thats just the going rate in Bangor) but still worth a visit.

3 of us had a late lunch here a few Saturdays ago. It was our 2nd time of eating here in as many months. The food was gorgeous. All 3 of us had the fish and chips - when it arrived the portions were so large we thought we couldn't possibly finish our plates - we did, due to it being scrummy. It also helped that there was Heverley on draught! Great stuff. Will be back soon.

Had dinner in the restaurant and spent the evening at the 80's Nite on Saturday night. What a brilliant night was had. Food in the busy restaurant was delicious and plentiful, with service faultless. Pleasant staff, attentive and unintrusive. The rest of the night downstairs in the bar was fantastic - brilliant music, great price drinks offers, and dont miss the prosecco. Bar was very busy but still service with a smile. Will definitely return

Having been a number of times before usually found the food to be fine and ordered the fish and chunky chips. The fish was served followed by the chips several minutes later. The chips must certainly were not chunky nor was it appreciated them being served after the fish. How hard is it to get the food timings right especially as place not busy.Certainly a case of could do better.

This is the third time ive been here for lunch in the past couple of months, Food is so good ive had the lasagne which is excellent and also the burgers are great. Kids eating free is also a great bonus. However on the past two occassions the place is cold and so are the staff. Its like they dont want to be there they lack interest and a smile wouldnt go a miss. I had to go up to the bar and ask for more drinks when it was clear our glasses were empty it would of been nice to have been offered another drink. I will return as the food is so good and hope the service improves

We are on our honeymoon road trip from Seattle to Cour d'alene, Fernie, Banff, Revelstoke and back home. To say the least, we have had some great meals. We were riding the gondola up the mountain and asked the couple we were riding with, who happened to live in Revelstoke, what there favorite restaurant was "Wolseys". Lucky for us! Hands down best meal on our whole trip. We sat in a booth, for starters, which was the best seat in the house, ask for one! Started with a BC Pinot noir that our server recommended, delicious, followed by the Wolsey salad, yum, who knew pineapple in a salad tasted so good. I ordered the bison ravioli, I've never ordered bison before, but it just sounded so good, it was. My husband had the short ribs, again, delicious. Oh yeah, we saved room for dessert, flourless cake very seldom disappoints, the ice cream and fruit they served with it, the bomb! Do not pass up this restaurant

We decided to go to Wolsey's for a reasonably priced spontaneous meal out. The waitress that seated us sounded bored and uninterested. When we had ordered drinks, my partner noticed that his cutlery was dirty and had to ask for it to be replaced, so things weren't off to a good start. We ordered starters - Breaded brie and the salted chilli chicken. It arrived very quickly, however the chef shouting "Service please!" across a relatively small restaurant every 5 minutes was quite off-putting. The salted chilli chicken was nice and a good sized portion for a started. The breaded brie was also a good size, however it was barely lukewarm when it arrived and very quickly turned completely cold. The brie inside the breadcrumbs was still mostly solid and so had clearly not been cooked properly as it wasn't melting as I would have expected. When the waiter came to take our empty plates, he appeared as uninterested as the first waitress. He didn't ask if everything was okay or if we enjoyed, which is something I've come to expect of every restaurant I've been in. In fact, I doubt he would have said anything if we hadn't said thank you to him, with which he replied a mumbled "thanks".For the main - Posh burger with sweet potato fries and Belly Buster burger with garlic skinny chips. Once again, it arrived quickly and was slightly warmer this time which was a bonus. However, both burgers were completely overcooked, dry, burnt and tasteless. The floury baps were dry and untoasted, seemingly like the came straight out of the packaging and onto my plate. The lettuce and tomato at the bottom of the burger was far to wet and soaked through the bottom bun making the burger fall apart and impossibly to hold. My partner's burger was exactly the same, burnt, tasteless and soggy. The garlic chips were rock hard and cold with a tiny bit of garlic butter covering about 5 chips in the middle of the dish and nothing else. The sweet potato fries were probably the nicest part of the dish but unfortunately were only lukewarm. Neither of us finished our meals as they were pretty much inedible. When we went up to pay, the waitress asked how our food was and we explained that we were very disappointed. She explained that they had just hired someone new and he was still getting used to things and they'd had complaints a few nights previously as well. She told us she would take 10% off our bill, which was a nice offer, but frankly saving £3 didn't make up for the inedible food. Complete waste of money. We could have saved £20 and gotten a better burger from McDonald's. Definitely will not be back and have been telling others of the awful food and service we received.

Having heard of Wolsey's from general word of mouth around Bangor, and having heard that the owner of the Merchant was somehow involved.. I decided to check this place out for a meal.ATMOSPHERE/ STAFF:The place looks very dated. Staff are quite friendly. However, the chef was repeatedly shouting "Service Please" and could be heard very clearly in the restaurant which detracted a little from the atmosphere. On the plus side, service was quick.STARTER:I got the Chili chicken. It was a generous serving and the sauce was very nice. Presentation was quite okay as well. However, it was quite cold upon arriving to my table. Not a bad start though.MAIN:I went for the Belly Buster which is two 8oz beef patties with bacon, cheese and onion rings. This is where the meal fell completely apart. The burger was very very greasy (a little too far beyond what I'd say is acceptable). The beef patties were very hard and chewy, which showed they were definitely overdone. The patties also tasted very plain and lacked the basic seasoning that you don't appreciate until it isn't there. The onion rings lacked any flavour at all. The bacon and cheese were average.I got a side of the garlic chips. Which arrived quite cold and very hard/ crunchy. I'm not talking about a nice crunch either, the chips were very solid and sharp. The garlic butter was also just a little dollop in the middle which didn't give very good coverage. The garlic butter was also too rich, it was very overwhelming.I didn't even finish the main course. It was so disappointing.SUMMARY:Went up to pay and said to the waitress about the food. She stated that this was not the first complaint recently about the food and offered us 10% off the meal price.I have eaten out in a lot of places but this is one of only two places (so far) where I couldn't even finish the meal because it was so unappealing.

Why, oh why have I not been here before? Six of us decided last minute to grab a bite to eat and we found this gem of restaurant. I had always heard about Wolseys but had never been. And what an excellent meal we had! We had three rambunctious five year olds with us and we didn't feel like we were a nuisance as this restaurant is extremely child friendly, our little ones even eat for free! My filet of sole was excellent as were all the other meals at the table. A lovely end to a Saturday, thank you for a wonderful dinner.

We had lunch this week at wolsey's with my brother who has just arrived home from America. We hadn't been here for 30 years so thought it would be nostalgic to visit.I ordered a coffee which was lukewarm and a coke for my brother. The bar was half full and getting busier as we waited for our meal.We ordered the pasta carbonara for myself and chicken goujons and chips. After 30 minutes my pasta arrived and my first mouthful revealed it was cold.My brother ate his goujons but not the chips as they were so over cooked they were inedible. The service was shambolic and this was because they were completely understaffed. This is Xmas week and it is completely down to bad management as the staff were unable to service the customers properly. To be fair they done there best but when I said my meal was stone cold the waitress looked extremely embarrassed and said she would take it off the bill.I would guess this was not a one off as I was not offered anything else to eat, just a refund.Sort it out Wolsey's management. We will not leave it for another 30 years to have a meal at Wolsey's.More like never again would be the answer to that question.

Went here with my friend for lunch was served by Stephen who was a delight and offered fantastic service. The meals were delicious and the portions were large. Our server was attentive and friendly without being overbearing and was always willing to help with anything we wanted. I would highly recommend Wolsey's especially with their I heart Wolsey's card which they provide free and gives you a 10% discount on all meals. Brilliant wee place will definitely be back frequently.

Went here for lunch with one of my buddies. Really disappointing. Service was slow, even though place was really quiet. We had burgers and chips, can't really mess that up?! The burger was tiny, flavourless and dry. It sat on a bun that was poor and the chips tasted frozen. Would have been better going to Tesco and buying a rustlers and a box of mircochips.

Maud's ice cream is delicious, however they have no menu outside so you need to go in to look at the flavours. My daughter is autistic and takes a while to make decisions, however despite wearing her sunflower lanyard there was no recognition of this, and she felt pressured to make a decision which left her (and me) feeling anxious. At the very least a smile would have eased the experience.

Went here as the cafe has a lovely setting but it is let down badly as it is extremely overpriced. One of us had soup and half a sandwich - small bowl of soup which tasted just OK and a sandwich which has to be the smallest I have ever seen with very little filling! Total rip off for the price. There is also no choice for gluten free customers. Such a pity as the cafe is pleasant to sit in.

Food very very average for an Indian . Better to go any Indian restaurant in India with a trip advisor rating of 2 !! Correlating !! It will be the best .i guess it’s best suited to the palette for the localities and not for Indian tourists . So let’s get that right. You will see a differentiation from the time you give the order to getting the table to getting billing on time - unfortunately Tourists from India will be treated differently bkz it’s business and one has to look at it who is the cash cow ? Tourist or the localities !! So I guess it’s the right thing to do !! Cheers !!! There are a few other restaurants in the area which are really really good !! Pls look up for my reviews !!

First of all the food was nice all organic, but there was no prices displayed, when we got the bill we nearly fainted. Very expensive I will not be back purely because of the prices.
