Nice big fish well cooked. Lovely chips and scraps. Potato scallops were nice and generous. Peas were tasty as were the battered sausages. 1 star removed as they were very expensive but that seems to be the way things are going these days.

totally ripped off with the quality of the food..I ordered a fishcake butty which was actually 2 already cooked scallops with a bit of fish put between them then rebattered and fried resulting in a rock hard dried mess of a butty...WHY?

This has been our favourite local fish and chip shop for many many years, and the quality and service remains excellent. However on our last visit we were really disappointed to learn that the beautiful “special” fish is no longer an option. Reluctantly we may have to consider other places in the future. What a shame! Hence 3 stars instead of the usual 5

Staff professional, high standards of food and hygiene. Such a welcoming chip shop. Reasonable prices too. The chips and cheese is to die for. Can’t wait to visit again!!

We have two very good chippies in the village and several in adjacent villages. Wolsey serve up consistently well cooked fish and chips at a fair price.

Awful chips. Not cooked, hard, dry and pale. Surely anyone can cook chips. They need to be brown not white.

Probably the worst Fishcake I've ever had, dried cardboard like fish in the middle horrible. Do yourself a favour and go to the other fish and chip place the fish bank in Sherburn it's 100 times better than Wolseys.

It's fine, everything freshly cooked and no reheats from the evening before. A reasonable enough choice on the menu with regard to the current situation. Good enough quality, Yorkshire sized portions and keen prices. Might seem to take a bit of time from ordering to receiveing your food but seems to be cooked to order, mostly.Covid compliant as best as can be made in a small waiting area.

Following the reviews I decided to visit. That was my biggest mistake - The fish and chips were the worst I have had for a long time. The fish tasted not fresh and seem to have been warmed up. The chips had black ends. Very poor. Not to be recommended.

Always good, better than the other in the village. Currently serving the full menu but reduced opening times. 3 customers in the shop only at 1 time with current covid restrictions.

This is my usual Saturday morning stop over in order to get lunch for a friend and myself. I have been calling here for well over 30 years abd we have never been disappointed yet!

I purchased chips and a fish but. The staff are always pleasant and chatty. The prices are reasonable. The fish was fresh, very tasty, with a light, crisp batter. The chips were spot on!

Don’t have take away fish & chips regularly (every couple of months), but when we do Wolsey in Sherburn is the best place by far. Fish is always perfectly cooked and the “special” is huge. Service is always quick and efficient.

Great fish and chips haddock as it should be and they have sumat moist peas,curry and gravy. Service is quick and with a smile

Wanted a quick meal, I think I had batter and chips! Hardly any fish to be seen and over cooked. Chips pasty and tasted like paper Peas had no taste Won't be returning

I've tried all the fish and chips around the area, Wolsey fisheries are streets ahead of the rest. It's now the only place I use locally. Great food and friendly service. What more do you want.

Queued for 5 minutes, everything is cooked fresh, quick service, quite pricey, good quality chips, fish not good

Great service. Yorkshire fish cakes always go quickly. Will make a take away tea to your liking. (Teabag left in or not for ideal strength for your own taste). Fish butty in bread bun long enough for the fish rather than small bap.

There’s a reason why there’s always a queue at this place - delicious fish and chips! The fish is always of good quality, chips are cooked to perfection and the service always friendly! Can’t beat it

Picked up a 2x fish and chips, cooked fresh however no real waiting around. Food was incredible as ever. Staff are friendly and polite. Strongly recommend.

The fish and chips are of very good quality. I have tasted better but it certainly falls, for me, as being a very good local chippy.

To say that the fish is cooked to order, which is really slow. My fish was over done as were the chips which is a shame as they are usually nice.

I have been using Wolsey Fisheries for 21 years. They are the best in the area and better than most fish and chip shops across the UK. The extended hours are an extra benefit. My especial favourite for a quick snack are the battered scallops.

Had fish and chips recently and the fish was tasteless and not a lot of it. Loads of batter and very gooey.Chips, Peas and curry sauce very good. The staff are friendly and the service is good.Will be giving the fish a miss and shall stick with the fishcakes.

Thoroughly enjoyed our Fish and Chips and even had scratchings. Local Pub did not serve food so was able to eat there and have a pint

Once again great fish and chips.Their fish is always lovely and fresh. Also their Scampi which was proper wholetail Scampi, not the cheaper stuff. Highly reccommend.

The staff are brilliant. The fish and chips are the best for miles around. They have a slushy loyalty card and you can pay contactless.

Myself and my partner love the fish and chips from here. We have ours lightly battered, so order when we go in. It's always busy so when we get to the till they are ready. Perfectly cooked with delicious chips. Hmmmm

Fantastic. Always a queue but well worth it. I often take a different route home especially to go there even tho I live 7 miles away. One of the best.

Over priced and small portions . This used to be a good chip shop but because of the above we tend to go else where for better value .

The fish is freshly cooked using traditional beef dripping, the batter is light and crispy and the fish is a lovely white colour. The chips are always nice and hot and not too over cooked. The premises are well kept, and very clean. The staff are friendly and happy to help with any dietary requirements.

Welcoming, friendly staff and great value for money- delicious. We particularly enjoyed the fish. Lots of choices, even serve smaller portions for a small appetite. Thank you, we'll be back soon.

I've been to this chippy as long as I can remember and it's always been good and good value! I have been to lots of worse chip shops and only a handful that are any better!

Average fish and chips, not cheap, usually a queue but I think that's good thing, because the fish is freshly cooked. Tend to go here as there isn't another fish shoop close by. Staff miserable.

Nice and clean... prices are a little steep but being there is no other chippy for miles they have no competition. The food is always greasy and fish batter is soggy after sitting for more than a couple of minutes. You can also expect long waiting times at peak times!Would not use them if there was any other chippy close by

We have been fortunate to eat the Wonderful fish and chips here on numerous occasions. We are from Cambridge and nowhere in our area reaches this level of perfection. My husband has even talked about a day trip to sample the fresh fish fried in beef dripping. The fish is cooked to perfection. Any pescatarian would agree as they sample such lovely freshness. Immaculately clean, welcoming and committed to please. You'd be silly to go elsewhere. Simply the best.

Fish & Chips are always spot on! If theres a queue it takes 10 minutes to get to the front. Always look forward to Fish & Chips on a Friday

Firstly I can not understand some of the posts on here ie the one with the fish & chips on a plate! If they was that bad why didn't you send them back and ask for a refund? I would of done!! I have never had bad fish and chips from this family run business. I get fed up of seeing posts like this trying to attempt to ruin small businesses. I would look at the positives and not the negatives!

Fish, chips, peas and scraps for me and the husband. Sausage and chips for the kids. Queue when we entered - don't be put off, the service is slick and it goes down quickly. We had our fish and chips open, ate them straight away outside. Beautiful fish, crispy batter, best fish and chips we've had in a long time. We will be back.

Long wait and wasn't that busy. Chips were ok fish a bit greasy for me. Girlfriend liked it but her pallet isn't as refined as mine

tend to review the restaurants I go to, but thought it was time to give this place a shout excellent fish and chips great service and even better value. Can't recommend it highly enough if you drop by and in need of a great English staple look no further you never know my guilty please may just become yours

Although this chippy has improved in the last year or so, it could still now only be described as average. The fish is often small, soggy and generally unsatisfying. There is often a que, but I think this is down to the lack of alternatives in the immediate area. If you are passing through Garforth on your way to Sherburn, you have a two out of three (that I know of) chance of picking a good chippy, better to try your luck there.The lack of local competition is also reflected in the price. This has to be one of the most expensive fish and chips locally.

Firstly, I have attached a picture to back up the review. Lets start with the fish - It was tiny in size and this thing must have been under the heat lamp since the last ice age. The flesh was dry and chewy at either end (you can see from the picture) it also had a seam of tough dried up flesh running the length of one edge. If you want crispy batter this place is not for you, on the other hand, if you want crunchy rock hard batter and some jaw exercise, this is you place. You can see from the picture that the batter is disaster. The chips were anaemic and sitting in a puddle of wet fat. On a positive - The bin enjoyed them. Seriously though, Sherburn In Elmet needs a good Fish and Chip shop. Its sad that this is the only offering we have got local. 0/10 from me, sorry.

Excellent traditional fish & chips, best around - fish is gorgeous. Lots of variety on the menu, as you would expect from a chippy.

Well for one theres always a queue... So to me thats always a good signal that theres good food. I had Fish & Chips and Mushy peas for me and the man at home and they where super, the batter was nice and crispy the chips went on forever. The Fish & Chip shop is just that, no kebabs, or other dishes that sway you away from Fish & Chips, THEY ARE DONE IN PURE BEEF DRIPPING!! The service was fast and cheerful and always with a smile. All I can say Is fantastic things about this shop, they never disappoint me or my hungry fella.. Well Done Credit to you all.

Popped in to get some fish and chips, and I was not dissapointed. A varied selection of food available.

As chippies go it's one of the better ones. Not much more to say than that, the jumbo battered sausage in a sub roll is amazing.

Try not to be the first in the queue when this fish shop opens up in the evening. You are more than likely to be fed either what is left over from lunchtime or at least fish and chips fried in the same oil as previous customers had enjoyed, or not, at lunchtime.This is the only time I have experienced fish and chips that 'repeat' on me. Not a pleasant experience. It's the only one in town so to speak but there are others within 10-15 mins by car. It's worth the drive, believe me.That said, it has its followers and is always busy.

The fish and chips here are brilliant, staff always quick and efficient. Nice crispy batter and thick chips! Lunch time deals are the best though.

For the local chippy as we dont have any others my family like this place.Bit expensive these days but great fish and chips, always busy all the time.
