Even at 70, I still feel excited visiting the station. It's the smell and the rail staff.. Cafe and waiting rooms. Fantastic experience. [ just wished it was steam trains ] perfection 👌

Has some indoor waiting rooms with plug sockets which is always good if your waiting. There is also A coffee/food stall, vending machines, ticket desk and toilets at the entrance area. Some plugs don’t work but most of them do. A good train station if your waiting around for your train for a while.

Leaking roofs plaguing both Wigan train stations, unable to use seating at platform 5 when raining due to leaks. Seems to be no particular hurry on to fix the issue.

Decent enough station close enough to the town centre and DW Stadium

Functional but tatty and facilities desperately in need of an upgrade. The cafe looks like it hasn’t been touched in 20 years.

Your disabled bays are full with taxi drivers or people without disabled badges perhaps u should start monitoring this so disabled people can get a space.

Toilets were closed on the station, station need some refurb!!! Stuff was extremely helpful, I hope they will have some pay rise soon

Accurate information and notifications. Staff helpful and supportive. Clean environment with nice toilets. The only issue was the connecting train that delayed.

This was a fantastic station for both arrival and departure, with appropriately sized platforms for the trains! The design is well organized through the shelter leading into the station's subway, with signs helping direct around and departure boards showing all services. Times are kept up to date, waiting room is spacious and cleanliness had been maintained!

Constant delays and train cancellations, I recommend planning your route in advance and not on weekends. The train is late by at least 2 hours, out of 6 trips 4 times the train was delayed by 2 hours

We arrived last Tuesday on the 18.07 train from Birmingham New Street. I left my bag on the train and realised almost right away but not before the train was on its way to Preston. The excellent staff member on the platform could not have been more helpful. They contacted Preston and arranged for my bag to be brought back to wigan on the very next train and within half an hour I was on my way home. All the staff at Wigan were so friendly, many thanks!!!

Small station but has basic facilities

Good station with plenty of frequent services. You can spot a couple of old logos e.g Intercity Swallow branding on some old signs. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, managing to prevent me from missing my train. Great station & staff

When the Liverpool trains were cancelled due to major disruption on the line and we were advised to go to Warrington Bank Quay and “make your way to Warrington Central “ it would have been helpful to have been told that it is an 18 minute walk or £5 in a taxi and that actually trains to Liverpool are cancelled from Warrington Central as well! Not very helpful.

A great place to catch a train.

Excellent railway station, easy access to town and Wigan Pier

Staff are fantastic here, booked passenger assistance they were so helpful from getting my case on the train to travel and off again when arriving back.

Plenty of waiting areas and 2 places to grab a drink and something to eat

It's not the best train station around, but it doesn't necessarily have to be, as it isn't in the populous city centre of Liverpool, and doesn't see much traffic - hence it still serves it's purpose. I had an okay time/experience here. My main issue, however, is tied to certain inconveniences I experienced here, the main one being a lack of power outlets for customer use. My phone was almost dead and I desperately needed to charge, but there are hardly any power outlets around, unlike some other train stations.

managerment arent really nice put the cleaning staff are nice and polite and helpful ive given a 5 star for cleaning staff only

I arrived 13 minutes before my train to London Euston on Wednesday 21/12 I had a problem with my online booking I was very stressed and had my three teenage children getting stressed that we would miss the train home The lady on the desk was very helpful so calm and professional She was simultaneously trying to help me sort out an online booking which I was too stressed to sort out on my phone and reports of a fire in the bin outside The lady on the ticket desk sorted my issue and escorted me and my family to the platform to make sure we were on the right train with out any issues from ticket inspectors I just want to say she was amazing and a great examples of someone going above and beyond to help a very stressed women of a certain age Have a very merry Christmas I am so sorry I didn’t get your name

Solider Bahnhof, die Züge werden, zusätzlich zur Anzeigetafel, auch immer noch per Durchsage angekündigt. Mülleimer sind vorhanden, Unterführung könnte mal renoviert werden

I go there at least 3 times a year. I really do like it so I do. I see my father 2 weeks at a time. I also really do like lookin around Wigan underrated place Wigan in my opinion. Very nice place to meander about in

First time here glad police presents as a lone female traveler but had to wonder why they where here

To many plastic scousers and trains heading to Liverpool lime Street for my liking

Iv never seen as navy ticket staff on 1 Station.2 as you walk in.2 another 50 yards away and 8 actually on the platform itself.no wonder ticket prices shot up.ridiculous.never any on the train itself?

Drunk and disorderly. Was nice to see some trains however, so I'll bump it up to two stars. My friend who was sleeping was woken up by an aggressive woman who was clearly drunk and the conductor did nothing! I was shocked to see this and was sorely dissapointed. The station is in good need of a rennovation and I promise you I will avoid Wigan Northwestern at all costs from here on out. The first time I've ever had to leave a negative review. Tut tut tut.

Well laid out station with a good food shop and good staff.

Great for trainspotting, curve at the end towards Warrington makes for perfect shots of trains going by, regular freight and railtours. 10/10

London to Wigan just under two hours!

Worse station perhaps in UK. No staff on ticket booking office. One ticket machine out of order. Big queues waiting for ticket machines. Machines really old looking and slow when using them. Very poor experience.

I loved the station , I was really confused at my journey and MARK , WAS A was a,true gentleman I broke my collar bone and mark took me to a,safe sitting area indoors reprinted a new ticket due to a cancellation . Made sure I was safely on the correct train with my luggage and I just had to have him recognised if you need help Mark's your man

After a long journey from Scotland in January, our train from this station to Stalybridge had been cancelled. Things happen, that's fine. I was with my elderly grandmother and am not a frequent user of public transport. I asked the staff where we needed to go since it was cancelled, they said go outside and get on a bus to Bolton. I asked them several times and got the same simple answer, I have never been to Wigan before, I dont know where the bus station is, I had no idea what bus to get and then what do we do when we were at Bolton? Bolton is still nowhere near where I live. The train we needed for Bolton was about an hour stopover so my nana decided to call into the Pumpkin cafe and grab us some food and a coffee. I called my grandad to inform him it had been cancelled and we would be back a few hours later than anticipated but I had no further information than that. The young man, I'm so sorry if this is wrong but i want to say David, or similar, overheard my conversation, i was a little frantic because we were stuck in Wigan and the staff weren't very helpful. My grandad has health issues and gets worked up very easily when things get changed. In the end my boyfriend had to leave work to collect us from Manchester as my grandad cant drive around there very well. He called me over and had been looking at the train line app and had found us a train from the other station that left in about 10 minutes, he told us exactly where to go and how to get to the platform and the time the train arrived and the time it would arrive in Manchester. I am so grateful for this man, he went above and beyond to help me and my nana get home that day, he didnt need to, but he helped more than the staff who's job is it to help. I know it's only one small act but it meant so much to a few peoples lives at that time. So, super long story short. This man is a credit to the company and an overall kind human, thank you, for helping us not be stuck in Wigan or Bolton haha

Ok but could do with modernisation

Got to the station and ask them for a return to London. Ask for a off peak return and get informed the 530 return is peak and the 730 is off peak. On the way back turns out the staff cannot do there jobs and you get landed with a fine and a costly second ticket !

Good easy station in centre of town lots of places nearby and never any long queues Galloway's pie shop down the road is fab too

Good station, clean, well sign posted, clear directions on how to get to Wigan Wallgate

It honestly wasn't too bad of a station honestly. Has a good amount of facilities including a ticket office, car park and a good amount of services stopping by, both Intercity Virgin Trains and local Northern trains. Lifts provide step free access to all of the platforms and there is a healthy amount of seating and shelter located on the platform. Local buses to and from the town centre stop right outside of station.

Helpful staff at the station, always very friendly and willing to assist with any enquires. A very good place for railway enthusiasts as well to enjoy the hobby responsibly and safely.

Nice station, Friendly staff and regular trains to Manchester, and London and Scotland

This station has 6 platforms, 2 terminus 4 through Lifts for each platform and stairs, easy to navigate and announcements for each train are 4 minutes before the scheduled departure. There is a snack bar on each main side and seats while you wait in a shelter area. This station sees the following services (tph = trains per hour) 3Tph to Liverpool Lime Street 2Tph to blackpool (virgin trains also operate a blackpool every 3 hours) 3Tph to London euston steam trains come through Wigan north western about every 2 weeks

Small but beautiful station. Kind of open and chilling but has washroom in basement which also connects to the otherside of station. Architecht and ambience is interesting and staff is supportive.

The train was on time but then the stop I was suppose to get of at was cancelled and there was no announcement saying it was cancelled, so me and my 15 year old sister were lost. After that, me and my sister had to get of but my younger sister got stuck on the train and the rail man was very rude and sarcastic.Once we were both off the train the ticket office man was very rude and saying I was lying about the train being cancelled. Fortunately, there was another train going to we’re I needed to go and I got home.

Not terrible but not great, Due to the train I was taking to kings cross was 30 minutes late but the was very apologetic about the situation even though it was the trains problem.

Why they continually allow people to buy tickets for services that are cancelled is beyond me. The amount of times the trains are cancelled or switched to different times or platforms is a joke. No help from staff members. Awful station, awful service, home late to my children yet again.

Absolutely awful trains constantly cancelled and if the train is running its always delayed so avoid at all costs

We are very grateful to the staff at Wigan station who took care of our disabled daughter during yesterday's problems at the station. It is a shame the caring, hard-working staff were subjected to abuse and intolerance by impatient travellers when they were doing their best to sort alternate transportation for their customers.

Clean station with friendly folks.

Our train got canceled last night, all the staff where so friendly, went to see the supervisor john who had arranged a taxi for me, my partner my 3children, aged 10months, 2 years and 3 years old.. if he didn't do this for us we would of had to wait over 3 hours to come home.

A small nice station with good toilets and signs. There is 2 shops for drinks or snacks. Needs extra seats at the platform.

Dealing with Constantly cancelled morning trains due to "lack of staff in Wigan" if I could give 0 stars I would. People need to get to work and they are less than unreliable

Decent rail station for local and mainline services to London, etc in the south, Liverpool to the West, and mainly Manchester Piccadilly in the east. Handy for the town centre.

I use this station everyday. I can't understand why so much of the seating is not undercover and therefore mostly unusable. Other than that the station is clean and the staff are polite. There does seem to be a problem keeping passangers up to date where northern trains are concerned.

Clean, helpful, and good shops and cafe

As a disabled person I have to book assistance, the staff are terrific and can’t do enough to help you with catching my train. Very caring and friendly yet so respectful and professional.The same goes on the the return journey. Help is always on hand alighting the train and ensuring that your transport is home is there for you. Excellent service, thank you Virgin. Downside is that the platforms can be very windy at times.

Been using this station for 6 years. Had a platform upgrade 4 years ago. 2 waiting rooms plus a 3rd cafe area. Platform area always pretty clean. Toilet generally clean and free. 6 platforms with 5 and 6 one side and 1 to 4 opposite via a short 25 step ground floor walkway. Short stay car park entrance can be dangerous as drivers entering tend to not pay attention or give way.

Modern and well serviced and free toilets sweet.

Have used this station many of times and always been happy. However, I would like to say a big thank you to Tina who helped me recently. I managed to balls up 2 simple tasks, parking and getting on my correct train. I was lucky to catch Tina as she was coming back from break who fixed both of my issues and was extremely proffesional. She didn't have to go as far as she did to help but did anyway. She's a real asset to the company/network.

Busy station but needs a makeover, platforms and concourses are dark and dirty in appearance, having said that the place is only used to get on and off trains so doesn't need to be anything special.

24 hour carpark closes at 11.50pm ! Does this station work on its on timeline Last train in delayed . Arrives 00.o5 a.m but the 24hr carpark is closed Update the website so it stops advertising this

The train station does what it says on the tin. Has trains and tracks for the train to move along. Beware of ticket collectors hiding in the tunnel section, very sneaky i say. In germany they had train stations that play nice bird noises on the loud speaker system, very relaxing. At wigan train station they got speakers that tell you the train is late all the time, very unrelaxing.

All looked recently refurbished when I visited. Free to use toilets were very clean and well maintained. Virgin waiting room on platform 5/6 a cosy warm hideaway on a winter's day, with a well stocked kiosk next door.
