Had a great night with friends in beer garden food was great Ben and Alex was great service

We came to this pub on Saturday morning 31st of August, the gent that welcomed us was very hospitable and made us feel very welcome as soon as we came through the door. Lovely pub and surprisingly very nice vegan breakfast choices, will absolutely return! I think the gent that served us was called John? (I might be completely wrong) but he was lovely 😊

I am appalled at this place would defo not recommend Not only did orders come out wrong but the second time round came out with missing pieces of food. I ordered a sausage kids meal and the sausages looked undercooked however felt cooked through but I made a mistake of not checking the whole sausage just the middle. This has resulted in my 1 year old getting food poisoning !? Staff said due to high demand mistakes was being made however, the pub was very quiet I would hate to see it on their busy days !! I came here Friday 30th October around 5pm incase the pub wants to question the chef as to why he can’t cook sausages properly for a kids meal - I’ve not complained as I do not care in a refund or any complimentary vouchers I just want people to be wary of the kids meals being cooked properly and ensure you’re checking I have major mum guilt on my behalf for not thoroughly checking and I hope the chef can take some responsibility also !!! I will not be returning.

I always have an amazing experience at The Widecombe Fair! The staff always go above and beyond and the food is hot and tasty. This time the team were able to accommodate a large party at very short notice , all the food was fresh & service was amazing!

Food was lovely although need to hire more staff as the staff were over run and looked very stressed out service we had was really good and left a tip for the waitress atmosphere was ok could do with a tv or something near the dinning area or outside to give people something to do but Iver all love going to the Widecombe

Called in for a drink after being on a walk decided to get our dog a Sunday lunch. We paid £6 and it had one small piece of beef on it. Loads of veg and a massive Yorkshire pudding. So disappointed for the dog really not good value at all . I wouldn't recommend

Normally love this pub, however on this occasion service was slow portions were minimal and they didn't have onion rings to go with some of the dishes. Hoping it was an off day for them as the food is normally really hood.

Had a Sunday full English dinner here last week after a client gave me a £50-00 green king gift card for a large refurbishment job done on the avenue!Anyway back to the food. Unfortunately it wasn’t good you needed a samurai sword to cut the pork and then you had to be jaws off James Bond to chew it,the Yorkshire pudding looked and tasted like it had just been sent from Yorkshire gravy was Bisto gravy granules and veg was hard and cold. Obviously I complained but as it was a gift card not much they could do We ended up having cheese cake as there was money on the card still and this was quite nice and tasty with a good portion good job as we were still hungry We then went to pay with the card to be told we had gone over the £50 It ended up costing us another £18-00 So £68-00 for a Sunday dinner for 2 very unhappy as we worked hard on a project to get that card. Won’t be going back in a hurry,it seems like some of these chain pubs just serve it whatever no thought for the customers. On top of that we both woke up in the night with bad stomach ache and it cost us a day off work. This review is a bit long but just wanted to save some one else from this ordeal.

The food doesn't get any better. The employees do NOT clean tables. 5 people at the bar, the last one gets his drink after 15 minutes. 😝

Miscommunication with manager over 2 for 1 burger offer. I was convinced she pointed to the whole menu page so we chose non-burger options. The server didn't really know when we asked her. We were then disappointed with the Hunter chicken - dried in - but didn't complain because we thought we were getting it cheaply.

Incredible food! We have been twice now and we could fault it both times. Lovely outside seating area and a park for the kids. 100% recommend

PRO'S - The staff were super friendly, very welcoming and a play area for small children. CON'S - Expensive considering the food quality is simple pub grub that is alot cheaper elsewhere. The price of drinks is extortionate £2.05 for a large blackcurrant and tap water !!! £1.85 for a half !!!!!. I ordered a large lemonade with a dash of orange and was charged £1.50 for 8oz of lemonade and £3.40 for a 16oz orange which is not what I asked for. £4.90 for one large drink. Its daylight robbery and I did query it as I thought they had charged me for a drink I had not had. A dash of orange does not equate to 16oz and I had to ordered another small lemonade to water it down at a cost of £3.30, a large is only £3.60. Where is the common sense? In total spent £58 on food and drinks for two adults and a 6 year old. A similar outing at other pubs costs about £35. Overall its not impressive food, not worth the money and I would sadly not recommend it. The only redeeming quality was the staff

Do not go there for food or drink

Me and my daughter haven't been here for a few years and oh my gosh, what a difference! The service was second to none and the food, bloody ell! It's a complete contrast from what I remember it to have been. They have pimpt up the decor, it's so warm and modern. The only downside I could think of is that the lighting is too soft (I had trouble reading the menu, it might have been poor eyesight on my part but the lighting could have been a bit brighter). The food was proper pub grub cooked to the highest standard, fresh ingredients, flavours that just burst in your mouth. I highly recommend this once time mediocre pub that has now found its calling. The staff are a credit to this place. Love it, I will be coming back!!!!

Price for a pint of lager £5.10 when you can buy same product for under £3 in other pubs

Nice pub and helpful friendly staff

Had a cranberry juice, I was brought a large unit, which I didn't ask for. I told the staff I didn't want or asked for a large drink, I was advised the bill would be amended and be charged for a standard unit, only to find I wasn't. I was charged for a large drink. The food was reasonable.

The person who served us, Joel, was absolutely fantastic. Wonderful service, very friendly and genuinely good to talk to. Must say he is a very good asset to the team, went above and beyond, making sure that everything was perfect, not just for us but for other customers around us as well. Got to be the best service we've had and got to be the best server in Nottinghamshire.

Came for lunch today and it was as good as ever. Had 2 burgers which came with fries, slaw and onion rings and our 2 year old had the chicken nuggets and chips. Portion sizes were good. The waitress’ were great and quick to serve and the atmosphere was nice and quiet at the time. Thank you

Called here while house hunting in the area for Saturday lunch. Wanted something lighter a sandwich etc but was informed lunch menu only available Monday to Friday and it wasn't allowed !! Chap on the next table asked for all day brunch and was refused on similar grounds, he left without eating. Ordered drinks , one pint of John Smith one Coke. Waitress brought the drinks informed me the John smiths was a shandy by mistake slopped it on the table and didn't bother wiping ot up. The shandy was flat and the Coke tasted of cleaning fluid. We also left without eating!! Or paying. Seems to have a real mixed bag of reviews sadly ours is one of the bad ones.

Very sceptical about visiting here after an awful experience some years ago. Slow in service at quiet time but redeemed itself in the food was very good. Will be back for more

Gave food 4/5 stars just because the beef dripping sauce wasn’t to my taste, found it had a bit of an after taste and the coleslaw was the same but other than that cannot pick fault. Lovely local pub, classic pub grub. Staff are super lovely and friendly. This particular visit, Dan was super. Waited on us quickly, checked in. Overall just a lovely place.

Out for dinner with 2 under 2s and it was amazing! All the food was spot on and the kids enjoyed running round in the play area. The staff were polite and friendly, I had to heat up a bottle for our 2 month old and the guy behind the bar was more than happy to help. Never been here for food before but will definitely return! 5🌟

Great food nice pub good beer and Guinness

We visit almost every week and enjoy our lunch. The menu has a wide range of choice and the food is really good! The pub is well laid out and the staff are most welcoming.

Fancied a Sunday lunch so we popped in 2 slices of beef 1 Yorkshire 4 roast potatoes and a spoon full of cold veg sorry not worth 13.99 and no mash either

The atmosphere was not that bad however the staff was not very helpful and seemed that we disturbed them with our questions. Our order took almost 1 hour to be cooked. Food for adults was delicious and very well presented but the food from kids menus was cooked very poorly and not very well presented.

Changed our mind about eating, the heating needs turning up and the door closer on the kitchen door needs replacing, the door slamming shut every minute is dreadful. Saving grace was the barmaid, polite and friendly.

A Gem With Great Food and Service This pub is a fantastic find! The interior is beautifully done, with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The food was equally impressive – kudos to Tom, the Chef! Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The staff was also top-notch, especially Joel, who went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. I highly recommend this pub!

So sorry this is late came on valentine day 2024 as we do every year but this time was absolutely amazing better than before food was hot tasty and cooked perfectly.. as always but the best part of this visit was the service 10/10 guys in not sure if you already know this but JOEL omg was a guy polite smiling and top notice customer service skills and made us laugh every time I would come back every day if I could if he was serving made out special night even better as me my parter double date with my sister and her husband.. can’t wait to visit again

Have been going to the Widecombe fair on average once every three weeks and have been completely satisfied. Unfortunately this evening ordered the hand battered cod which arrived with what looked like a piece of batter with no fish in it. The server agreed with my complaint and duly returned the meal, I asked for a replacement and unfortunately received a very similar looking hand battered cod which was again returned. I am struggling to believe that if this was hand battered from fresh in the kitchen that the quality of the cod or lack of it was not questioned before being served on both occasions. Also returned a rib eye steak requested medium came out rare. A really disappointing evening which would normally have been very pleasant. ☹️

Visited here again for Mother's Day 2024 with the two hounds and had a really nice meal. Great value food and drink and good atmosphere. One of our favourite pubs now! Really friendly service, dogs allowed in the bar area, great value food and a good selection of drinks.

Attentive staff ,good food and drink , Clean , a good visit Been again and it was just as good, Joel attended to us wonderfully, knew everything on the menu and helped us choose the perfect meal ,wee done all !!.

It's a nice place in a good location. The food was OK, I had a burger, I would eat it again but not at that price. Both the beer and food need to come down in price. It's charging way above its station, in my opinion. John Smiths should not be over £4 a pint lol

Dropped in on speck for Sunday lunch, got accommodated without problem and had a lovely family meal out. Joel was excellent throughout.

Typically this is my favourite pub until today we used beer garden and there was dog poo everywhere!!!

Enjoyed the steak sandwich from the lunch time menu followed by apple crumble with custard all very tasty. Nerissa was helping and informative and did not have to wait long for the meals. Will definitely be going back.

came with family today. had hunters chicken well over cooked normally comes with cheese and bacon on. minus the bacon today. 2 meals was cold. asked for the steak medium rear came well done. very disappointing today has we do visit often

Went here today for a birthday meal and was greeted by our waitress Ellie. She did the most amazing job and was so upbeat that it just made everyone at the table happy. Even though there were 14 of us she made sure everyone got what they wanted and that everyone was happy. If you get her as your waitress you’ll understand how good of a job she does!

Not very nice food not worth it money not much meat on plate only 1 slice discuting carrot like bullets

A group of 5 of us were booked for Saturday lunchtime, we were quickly shown to our table and the waitress came a few minutes later to our drinks order; five drinks and a jug of water and five glasses. After a few minutes the drinks arrived minus the water and glasses, this was asked for again and the waitress advised the order was being processed and it would be with us soon. The food order was taken, and unfortunately was also problematic; 2 meals arrived together followed shortly after by a third, then several minutes after that the fourth and eventually the fifth which had to be returned to the kitchen due to it being the wrong meal! The waiting staff were very apologetic, but when the mixed grill arrived without the fried egg, the waiter said he would go and get it, a few more minutes and we were informed the egg was still on its way as the chef had burnt the original! In fairness, despite all the problems the food was nice, I really wish I could say it was worth waiting for, especially after we had visited previously and had been really impressed with everything but it was nice, is as far as I could go really. The staff were really lovely and obviously very short on that day which seemed to be the problem but is no excuse, yes, I think we will return but it won't be in the very near future.

Had a really delicious meal this afternoon, had the homemade nachos for starters , and chicken fajitas that came out sizzling and al so I as delicious, lovely atmosphere and our server Adele was very helpful and friendly , and thanks to the chefs for the amazing cooking😋👍

Been tonight 31/1/24 for meal with our granddaughter. It was very busy but the service was very good and the 2 young male waiters never stopped and were very professional and friendly (one had dark hair one blondy) the food was great for the price although there wasn't much veggie choice. The lady behind the bar I think her name was lily was very helpful and sorted out the discount offer that was on. A lovely atmosphere and we shall be back. (We did ask to move tables which was accommodated very swiftly due to foul language from another tsble) overall a pleasant evening

We took our granddaughter out with us today and she rated the meal as 10 out of 10, she also said the pudding was great too. The waitress who served us was brilliant with us and the granddaughter, would recommend coming here. The waitresses where named Aimee and Lilly and they where both brilliant.

Great pub. Really good deal for food and the lunch menu was a really good price for what you receive we were definitely full. The staff were incredible and had great service. Not been to the pub in a long time and I will definitely be returning as the service and food were both great. Our server was Hannah who was very polite and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Seems to be a great team, very polite and professional and was happy to advise us on any deals and upcoming events in the pub. Will definitely be returning and recommending to friends and family.

I visited last night with my husband. We didn’t have a table booked however the staff was very accommodating and quick to get us seated. The food was absolutely delicious. I ordered the fillet which was cooked to perfection and I thoroughly enjoyed. The service was a 10/10 and would recommend this place to anyone! I didn’t get all the names of the staff however one lady who served us was named Amy and she is a credit to the widecombe fair. Thank you for making our visit a pleasant one and we will definitely be back in future.

a wonderful experience on a 🌶️ afternoon. amazing food, service and atmosphere. a suitable rating would have been the 5⭐️. i mean i did leave the place with free ice cream… however due to the developing heat and the fact i was sadly too shy to ask for the beautiful girls number, i have to place it at 4⭐️. the rating can be changed, let her know 😅

Booked a table for 9am only to be told at 9-15 they didn't open till 10,so about 5 people waiting outside were disappointed,

Forgot to do a review of my Christmas day experience with my family . Christmas Dinner was cooked to perfection the veg was exactly how I like with firmness to it and not over cooked. I also came with my daughter and grandkids on Thursday the 4th of January and had the fillet steak which I have rare. Whenever I dine here I always order steak as its one of the very few restaurants that cook my steaks to my preference. Staff are always attentive and helpful nothing is ever to big or to small and I always have the best dining experience.

Went for a meal with my son. The staff were amazing and very helpful. The quality of the food was excellent. We look forward to eating here again.

I had a steak pie. It was quite big, but mainly pastry. There was very little filling. I won't go there again.

Booked a table for a large group to have the Christmas meal. When we booked, we weren't asked if we wanted the Christmas meal or food of the menu. When we arrived, we were informed we couldn't have the Christmas meal as we hadn't booked it. That was the first disappointment. After arriving at 4.15pm and placing the order, it took until 6pm before the food started to be brought to the table. Due to severe allergies, I stated very clearly my allergies. My food was bought to me with one of the foods I'm allergic to! I informed the person who brought it to me, who then insisted it wasn't. After I reiterated it was, she took my plate away, and I had to wait for a "fresh" meal to be prepared. The food had obviously not been freshly prepared as it wasn't hot. I doubt they had replaced anything within the time i waited. Within a short space of time of eating it, I had a reaction! Luckily, I had my epipen with me. I'm disgusted that the woman challenged me about the food as I obviously am aware of what the food I'm allergic to and know what it looks like. The desserts took a long time to be served, and it was after 8pm before we finished. Appalling all-around service. There was no apology for any of the issues raised. When you spend nearly £300 for a family meal, this is not the service or type of meal you expect!!!!

Came in last night for a meal with my family. We had a starter and then mains. My brother had the tomahawk and he said it was cooked to perfection and would order again. We’ve all had a lovely time and definitely will be back. Staff was accommodating and nothing was too much for them!

First visit to Widecombe Fair in 2/3 years. Must say the restaurant was much cleaner and the atmosphere was much improved. The food was very good and we only waited about ten minutes to receive our meal. The staff were attentive and polite.

As always the widecombe fair is a number one place for me as I work at linneys and for linneys Christmas party and the last day breaking up ( mad Friday ) for Christmas at linneys very well organized served very quickly and all ways with a smile and with a please and a thank you would 100% recommend this place for family and friends functions and the food and preparation is a a star ✨ plus and the alcohol is clean and crisp

Food was amazing, asking the staff about allergies was not very good. So they handed us the tablet with allergen guide on it which was great if it worked but then it wasn't great as it never had what we asked about allergies on it so kind of pointless really. Before the staff did go and check with the kitchen staff and ask about the allergie but new technology isn't always best in these situations.

Food was nice apart from the steak was a bit tough. Staff were very friendly.
