Birthday party on a Saturday afternoon. Arrived in time for the birthday boy. The main meals were for party of 20. Everyone had pre booked, starters, mains arrived together. It was clean inside, staff were friendly. Over all a good enjoyable time, cheers.

Hannah, Alex and Costie served us and I have to say they were brilliant. Most efficient and friendly. We haven’t been here for several years and we will definitely be returning soon. We had the 12oz rump steak and it was yummy!!

Absolutely terrible experience. Sunday night family meal for 5 adults no children. Ordered an alcoholic drink for myself 53 year old woman and shared it with my 22 year old daughter. Drink was confiscated by staff due to my daughter not having any ID. Ordered another alcoholic drink for myself again shared with my daughter only to find we are being watched on camera. Staff charged over to once again to confiscate the drink with a lecture on pub licencing and then thrown out, disgusting.

Aaron who is one of the chefs made our experience very pleasant. He was fun to chat with. The staff dealt very well with my special requests on the menu. Food was well cooked and presented. Altogether a great lunchtime.

Rising prises is making it to much for drinks in there. We pop in for a drink with family now and again, but won't be coming as much unfortunately.

We haven't been here for a long time but thoroughly enjoyed the food. We had the lunch menu, the choices were good, the food delicious and price was amazing

The service here is completely awful. The owner should be ashamed. Every time I come here theres only one or two waiters/waitresses. We saw only one waiter working tonight. Had another time where only two waiters were working and they looked clueless on what to do, while we stood there waiting to be seated. They never did end up coming by so we left and ate somewhere else.

Pros: The food was tasty and I would consider eating here again, but changes need to be made in line with the cons below.... Cons: The portion size for price paid is a massive rip-off. I am happy with eateries putting prices up but Greene King has upped the prices AND reduced the portion size. We had the signature char-grilled burger at £13.49 and Grilled Salmon fillet meal at £16.99. The burger was a single patty with one slice of cheese and two strips of streaky bacon 1cm x 5cm each plus fries. McDonalds across the road serves virtually the same meal with fries for £3.49. The salmon meal consisted of a salmon fillet 3cm wide and some roasted potatoes & veg for £16.99! Both meals served on massive plates which made the small portions look even worse. Now for the drinks: 1 pint of moretti and a large glass of diet coke (not a pint) was £10.00. Again, rip-off price for 2 drinks. Considering the large local population places like this should be very busy on a Saturday night, it wasn't. I wonder why. The above comments were given to staff at the table with no return feedback.

First time visit to this establishment and we were a party of 8 adults with a booking, we arrived early and were greeted with a very warm welcome, we even got seated and served early which was a pleasant bonus. The food, speed of service and atmosphere were all superb but even better still was the 2 staff members who looked after us, Costi & Joel, nothing was too much trouble and we had some good banter with them, both are a great credit to the business and if we were local then I know we'd be here on a regular basis. Thanks guys for a fantastic experience and if we're out this way again, we'll pop in for sure.

First to have the Christmas menu! Great food and portion sizes. Prawn cocktail was superb, mushrooms in creamy sauce and the chicken sticks- all great starters. Turkey dinner- tasty Steak meals - best we’ve had in a long time- even enough steak to take some home for my Staffie. Puds good size too. Thank you Lilly for your superb service- you worked hard and never let us down 🎄

Not been here for a while, the place has been updated and looks very nice. Staff are polite and I love the new menu. The Grilled Salmon was cooked well and what it was served with really made the meal delicious. The garlic mushrooms with sourbread were great and the hallumi fries. Both myself and my Mum enjoyed our food and are looking forwards to going again. Matt was our server and was welcoming and helpful.

Manager was great, understanding and went over and beyond to help with a slight issue we had. Would always come here. Food is lovely, staff are great and the atmosphere is great. Nothing to complain about everything to praise!

I came in on the 8th October for a latte and was greeted with a warm welcome from Lilly. I have been in many times for food and always have an amazing experience. The staff are all amazing and I can't wait to come again.

Called in for Sunday dinner with family. Been in the pub many times over the years,Not been in since it became a Green King Pub , bar and drinks were good great choice of non alcoholic drinks, however food was average and we were waiting for the meals to long in our opinion - 25 mins+ .

Myself and my husband been here today for a visit, service was quick and the staff was brilliant, we had the Swiss burger & the Italian chicken burger it was amazing, I am a fussy eater and 90% when we dine out I have burger but the Italian burger was by far one of the BEST burgers I have ever tasted was packed with flavour and the only way I can describe it is, tastes like a pizza on a chicken burger. HATS OFF TO THE CHEF

We came to this pub on Saturday morning 31st of August, the gent that welcomed us was very hospitable and made us feel very welcome as soon as we came through the door. Lovely pub and surprisingly very nice vegan breakfast choices, will absolutely return! I think the gent that served us was called John? (I might be completely wrong) but he was lovely 😊

I am appalled at this place would defo not recommend Not only did orders come out wrong but the second time round came out with missing pieces of food. I ordered a sausage kids meal and the sausages looked undercooked however felt cooked through but I made a mistake of not checking the whole sausage just the middle. This has resulted in my 1 year old getting food poisoning !? Staff said due to high demand mistakes was being made however, the pub was very quiet I would hate to see it on their busy days !! I came here Friday 30th October around 5pm incase the pub wants to question the chef as to why he can’t cook sausages properly for a kids meal - I’ve not complained as I do not care in a refund or any complimentary vouchers I just want people to be wary of the kids meals being cooked properly and ensure you’re checking I have major mum guilt on my behalf for not thoroughly checking and I hope the chef can take some responsibility also !!! I will not be returning.

I always have an amazing experience at The Widecombe Fair! The staff always go above and beyond and the food is hot and tasty. This time the team were able to accommodate a large party at very short notice , all the food was fresh & service was amazing!

Food was lovely although need to hire more staff as the staff were over run and looked very stressed out service we had was really good and left a tip for the waitress atmosphere was ok could do with a tv or something near the dinning area or outside to give people something to do but Iver all love going to the Widecombe

Called in for a drink after being on a walk decided to get our dog a Sunday lunch. We paid £6 and it had one small piece of beef on it. Loads of veg and a massive Yorkshire pudding. So disappointed for the dog really not good value at all . I wouldn't recommend

Normally love this pub, however on this occasion service was slow portions were minimal and they didn't have onion rings to go with some of the dishes. Hoping it was an off day for them as the food is normally really hood.

Had a Sunday full English dinner here last week after a client gave me a £50-00 green king gift card for a large refurbishment job done on the avenue!Anyway back to the food. Unfortunately it wasn’t good you needed a samurai sword to cut the pork and then you had to be jaws off James Bond to chew it,the Yorkshire pudding looked and tasted like it had just been sent from Yorkshire gravy was Bisto gravy granules and veg was hard and cold. Obviously I complained but as it was a gift card not much they could do We ended up having cheese cake as there was money on the card still and this was quite nice and tasty with a good portion good job as we were still hungry We then went to pay with the card to be told we had gone over the £50 It ended up costing us another £18-00 So £68-00 for a Sunday dinner for 2 very unhappy as we worked hard on a project to get that card. Won’t be going back in a hurry,it seems like some of these chain pubs just serve it whatever no thought for the customers. On top of that we both woke up in the night with bad stomach ache and it cost us a day off work. This review is a bit long but just wanted to save some one else from this ordeal.

The food doesn't get any better. The employees do NOT clean tables. 5 people at the bar, the last one gets his drink after 15 minutes. 😝

Miscommunication with manager over 2 for 1 burger offer. I was convinced she pointed to the whole menu page so we chose non-burger options. The server didn't really know when we asked her. We were then disappointed with the Hunter chicken - dried in - but didn't complain because we thought we were getting it cheaply.

Incredible food! We have been twice now and we could fault it both times. Lovely outside seating area and a park for the kids. 100% recommend

PRO'S - The staff were super friendly, very welcoming and a play area for small children. CON'S - Expensive considering the food quality is simple pub grub that is alot cheaper elsewhere. The price of drinks is extortionate £2.05 for a large blackcurrant and tap water !!! £1.85 for a half !!!!!. I ordered a large lemonade with a dash of orange and was charged £1.50 for 8oz of lemonade and £3.40 for a 16oz orange which is not what I asked for. £4.90 for one large drink. Its daylight robbery and I did query it as I thought they had charged me for a drink I had not had. A dash of orange does not equate to 16oz and I had to ordered another small lemonade to water it down at a cost of £3.30, a large is only £3.60. Where is the common sense? In total spent £58 on food and drinks for two adults and a 6 year old. A similar outing at other pubs costs about £35. Overall its not impressive food, not worth the money and I would sadly not recommend it. The only redeeming quality was the staff

Do not go there for food or drink

Me and my daughter haven't been here for a few years and oh my gosh, what a difference! The service was second to none and the food, bloody ell! It's a complete contrast from what I remember it to have been. They have pimpt up the decor, it's so warm and modern. The only downside I could think of is that the lighting is too soft (I had trouble reading the menu, it might have been poor eyesight on my part but the lighting could have been a bit brighter). The food was proper pub grub cooked to the highest standard, fresh ingredients, flavours that just burst in your mouth. I highly recommend this once time mediocre pub that has now found its calling. The staff are a credit to this place. Love it, I will be coming back!!!!

Price for a pint of lager £5.10 when you can buy same product for under £3 in other pubs

Nice pub and helpful friendly staff

Had a cranberry juice, I was brought a large unit, which I didn't ask for. I told the staff I didn't want or asked for a large drink, I was advised the bill would be amended and be charged for a standard unit, only to find I wasn't. I was charged for a large drink. The food was reasonable.

The person who served us, Joel, was absolutely fantastic. Wonderful service, very friendly and genuinely good to talk to. Must say he is a very good asset to the team, went above and beyond, making sure that everything was perfect, not just for us but for other customers around us as well. Got to be the best service we've had and got to be the best server in Nottinghamshire.

Came for lunch today and it was as good as ever. Had 2 burgers which came with fries, slaw and onion rings and our 2 year old had the chicken nuggets and chips. Portion sizes were good. The waitress’ were great and quick to serve and the atmosphere was nice and quiet at the time. Thank you

Called here while house hunting in the area for Saturday lunch. Wanted something lighter a sandwich etc but was informed lunch menu only available Monday to Friday and it wasn't allowed !! Chap on the next table asked for all day brunch and was refused on similar grounds, he left without eating. Ordered drinks , one pint of John Smith one Coke. Waitress brought the drinks informed me the John smiths was a shandy by mistake slopped it on the table and didn't bother wiping ot up. The shandy was flat and the Coke tasted of cleaning fluid. We also left without eating!! Or paying. Seems to have a real mixed bag of reviews sadly ours is one of the bad ones.

Very impressed. Excellent quality food. Great service, served quickly. Didn't give it a 5 because I struggled to read the menu in the dim light.

Gave food 4/5 stars just because the beef dripping sauce wasn’t to my taste, found it had a bit of an after taste and the coleslaw was the same but other than that cannot pick fault. Lovely local pub, classic pub grub. Staff are super lovely and friendly. This particular visit, Dan was super. Waited on us quickly, checked in. Overall just a lovely place.

Out for dinner with 2 under 2s and it was amazing! All the food was spot on and the kids enjoyed running round in the play area. The staff were polite and friendly, I had to heat up a bottle for our 2 month old and the guy behind the bar was more than happy to help. Never been here for food before but will definitely return! 5🌟

Great food nice pub good beer and Guinness

We visit almost every week and enjoy our lunch. The menu has a wide range of choice and the food is really good! The pub is well laid out and the staff are most welcoming.

Fancied a Sunday lunch so we popped in 2 slices of beef 1 Yorkshire 4 roast potatoes and a spoon full of cold veg sorry not worth 13.99 and no mash either

The atmosphere was not that bad however the staff was not very helpful and seemed that we disturbed them with our questions. Our order took almost 1 hour to be cooked. Food for adults was delicious and very well presented but the food from kids menus was cooked very poorly and not very well presented.

Changed our mind about eating, the heating needs turning up and the door closer on the kitchen door needs replacing, the door slamming shut every minute is dreadful. Saving grace was the barmaid, polite and friendly.

A Gem With Great Food and Service This pub is a fantastic find! The interior is beautifully done, with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The food was equally impressive – kudos to Tom, the Chef! Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The staff was also top-notch, especially Joel, who went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. I highly recommend this pub!

So sorry this is late came on valentine day 2024 as we do every year but this time was absolutely amazing better than before food was hot tasty and cooked perfectly.. as always but the best part of this visit was the service 10/10 guys in not sure if you already know this but JOEL omg was a guy polite smiling and top notice customer service skills and made us laugh every time I would come back every day if I could if he was serving made out special night even better as me my parter double date with my sister and her husband.. can’t wait to visit again

Have been going to the Widecombe fair on average once every three weeks and have been completely satisfied. Unfortunately this evening ordered the hand battered cod which arrived with what looked like a piece of batter with no fish in it. The server agreed with my complaint and duly returned the meal, I asked for a replacement and unfortunately received a very similar looking hand battered cod which was again returned. I am struggling to believe that if this was hand battered from fresh in the kitchen that the quality of the cod or lack of it was not questioned before being served on both occasions. Also returned a rib eye steak requested medium came out rare. A really disappointing evening which would normally have been very pleasant. ☹️

Visited here again for Mother's Day 2024 with the two hounds and had a really nice meal. Great value food and drink and good atmosphere. One of our favourite pubs now! Really friendly service, dogs allowed in the bar area, great value food and a good selection of drinks.

Attentive staff ,good food and drink , Clean , a good visit Been again and it was just as good, Joel attended to us wonderfully, knew everything on the menu and helped us choose the perfect meal ,wee done all !!.

It's a nice place in a good location. The food was OK, I had a burger, I would eat it again but not at that price. Both the beer and food need to come down in price. It's charging way above its station, in my opinion. John Smiths should not be over £4 a pint lol
