Eat here regularly with a go to dish of hunters chicken with jacket potato and I'm telling you now I've not had better elsewhere you get the odd ungrateful person moaning but everyone is very friendly and respectful to each other making it a wonderful atmosphere to enjoy my daily lunch, if you see the sign when you drive past I recommend you give it a try, one last thing if your a fish and chips person prepare yourself for a satisfied stomach as they serve the biggest fish I have ever seen

Always come her to meet up with friends for a few drinks , the staff are friendly and welcoming and the food is tasty. The new owners are doing a fab job xx

Horrendous Sunday lunch! We're visiting Nottinghamshire with family. Very unknown to the area and stopped off at the nearest chain pub, hoping for a reliable and relatively decent meal before a long drive home. Unfortunately we definitely stopped off at the wrong pub! It was absolutely dead, had a smell of wet dog??? and the chairs were absolutely disgusting. We were starved and in a rush so decided to stay despite all of this. However we then waited 40 minutes for a Sunday dinner, despite it being dead. Having worked as a Marston's pub chef in the past, I'm well aware of the Sunday lunch process and know fine well that we waited for nothing as it's all prepped in advance. This too, was aparent when we received luke warm food. We ordered 4 carverys, a children's carvery and a Mac and cheese starter for one of the little ones. The Mac and cheese was the best thing we ate. Utterly bland meal and quite frankly the most bizarre turkey any of us had ever eaten. It was super dry and yet somehow brittle??? It fell apart in your mouth in the absolute WORST way 🤢 We did complain. First to a lady wearing jeans and a hoodie (professional 🙄) who said 'well turkey is a dry meat". Wow. Then secondly to a guy behind the bar who said he would let the kitchen know. No apology, no offer of a refund or meal change. Nothing. Honestly, if we weren't in a rush and absolutely famished with children we'd have demanded a refund and walked out. Unhelpful staff, vile food and quite frankly a disgustingly dirty pub! Thank the lord this isn't our local! 🤣

I would not recommend this place at all, I am the Lady of the party that you have referred to in the last review and you CERTAINLY DID NOT offer us anything else, so on top of poor service ( it did not take 20 minutes to come, I came to the bar to ask how long as we had waited 40 mins) awful food, disgusting seating area, you now are lying to cover yourself. I think for future reference you need to re-train your management and staff on the correct procedure on how to deal with customer complaints.

It really winds me up leaving a restaurant hungry! Kids menu portions are pretty much the same size of the adults!! The food tastes great just a shame they give you such a small amount! And £12.29 vs £4.99 in the pictures is a bit of a p*** take. I wouldn’t come again! You will leave feeling robbed and hungry! I mentioned it to the bar staff who told me it is what it is basically. So hence the poor attitude to sort it this place only gets an overall 1 star I hope this helps them in the future!

Apart from no Sherry Trifle Cheesecake for the fourth time, the food was just as my wife and I wanted for a Friday night, let's eat out call.

Came for a meal with my family. Was told the food would be 20 minutes which is fine however there wasn't many eating and our food came out cold, and with no knifes or forks ( a basic necessity when eating I thought ?) And no napkins, luckily we had baby wipes. I ask the lady for a knife and fork and she didn't listen and started talking about the sauce ? And then my partner ordered a pink gin with lemonade which the same lady tried upsell more lemonade in it but didn't explain that it was going to cost more. In my experience working in catering I'm pretty sure your supposed to explain to customer that it's going to cost more and how much when upselling. Just a rubbish experience to be honest. Not impressed.

The food was hot and tasty but we were waiting for a while for the meal and then was informed shortly before we were served one of the items had to changed as they had run out of the item

This was the perfect place to come for date night. The customer service provided was amazing. The staff were able to cater for my vegan girlfriend which is always tricky as a lot of places ignore the dietary requirement and provide dairy. This place however were amazing with it. The women who served us all had smiles on their faces and actually looked like they enjoy their jobs which is so rare to see. The food was really good and was served in a timely manner and still piping hot. We will definitely come here again.

1st time for a Sunday roast (hunters chicken for the boy) came in a timely manner. The chicken (hunters chicken) was a tad tough. But the onion rings were bang on. Half chicken roast was lush. Chicken was so tender. The beef dinner was lovely, the beef just melted in your mouth, the stuffing was rock hard though, which i was disappointed in. But i would definitely recommend all day long. Stated on the website that food is served until 8pm, at just before 5pm we ordered some sausage and mash to take home for the dog but told they're no longer serving food.

We went at tea time so lots of children running around on the lounge area rather than the tap room. With what appears no parent supervision, Hence a low score for d as atmosphere.

Just had dinner at the black bull and it was beautiful. One of the best meals out I've had in ages. Steak was cooked to perfection 👌 great customer service, I will definitely be going back.

Party of 8 called in at lunchtime staff weren't very friendly and it seemed dark and gloomy in there ,food wasn't great but eatable . One of the portions of lasagne had a big piece of plastic in it and the staff weren't interested they actually laughed about it, they offered to do another lasagne but we asked for the money back instead which they did . On leaving we heard one of the staff members complaining we had left a mess but who serves a child pasta dish in a red hot bowl and another child's meal on a red hot plate . No I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and that is from someone who has previously worked for Marstons .

Fantastic food, great homemade chips. Friendly and bubbly staff with a great atmosphere and every Friday they have a fantastic quiz night music quizzes with cash and non cash prizes, it’s an amazing night, highly recommended.

Having got caught in a sudden downpour, we nipped into the Black Bull for a pint or three waiting for the rain to stop. The ladies behind the bar were all very friendly, being more than willing to partake in some friendly banter. The downstairs bar was a bit quiet, but it was 9 pm mid week , and there was something going on upstairs and there were other people in the pool room. All in all, a good night was had and we still got wet on the way home. Sunday late afternoon, Sat out side in the sun watching the world go by.

We went in for a meal today about 2hrs ago . Waited ages for it. My hubby had a mixed grill. 2 things missing from it. Went to bar but nothing was said or done. Even I couldn't bite through it. It was like trying to bite through a rock. On the way out I complained. To which we got offered a free pudding. We're both diebetics. Oh and we got told to come back Monday as new ownership and all new cooks. It was disgusting. My hubby says he won't be going back there

We went here for a meal. The fries were very hard and over cooked. The hotdog had been warmed in microwave and extremely difficult to cut into. Nobody came to check if the food was OK. Service was quite poor. It's very rare that I have to write reviews as bad as this but I have to be honest. We won't be returning.

Myself and my partner are in Nottinghamshire visiting family and are stay within walking distance of the pub. Nice quiet pub, with easy access. To the front is a small seating area, to enjoy a pint with friends. Inside has a eating area and a bar/games area. Very clean and friendly public house. We have 2 dogs and was welcomed by a friendly member of staff. The food was to a good standard. Prices of drinks where at a very good price. Well recommended a visit.Well done to all and thank you.

It's very hit and miss here .We've had some lovely food and some not so good ...portion sizes are a tad small at times we had Lasagne and 11 small bits of chips...and a very watery curry...pricey for what we got but the taste was good ...

We go here quite regularly and the food is always good and the staff are always super nice. Loads of options and take responsibility if food is undercooked (has only happened once so far with chicken but they were extremely apologetic and offered to redo the dish and offered a free drink)

Been for Mother’s Day lunch thought I would try again as had new chef well I won’t be going for food again! Cold and tasteless service not very good either I did tell the lady who asked if everything was ok but she said she would go and speak to someone but never got back to us!

Lovely owners. Food was delicious. I rated 4 stars overall because the drinks are a bit expensive in my opinion. A round a spoons costs us approx £12. In comparison, the same round here costs nearly £25. However, that said, we will go back. This place is dog friendly which is fantastic for us and makes a nice trip out with our girlies.

I would give 0 stars if I could! Shocking service, scruffy staff and dirty tables, food mediocre after an hour's wait will NEVER return! Also, full of chavs!!!

Fantastic place for our daughters and fiancee engagement party. Good service, great prices for drinks and lovely staff. A lovely night was had by everyone. They sorted a get DJ out for us which I would recommend, we was able to bring our own food, and we dropped off the decorations in the afternoon which they arranged beautifully. There was no sirloin steak available, waited 40mins only to be told they hadn't got the 2nd meal we ordered. The meals arrived after 1 hour of ordering and the rump steak was mostly fat and wasn't eaten, waste of money. Staff looked unhappy with no sense of urgency.

Came in for a quick pint and a quick bit of food. Customer service was amazing, and all staff has a lovely smile on their face. Our food arrived quickly and was piping hot. Will definitely be coming back :)

Me and my partner had a date night here last night (15/7/23). I phoned up earlier in the day to make a reservation, and the lady on the phone seemed lovely and polite enough. I booked the table for 6pm, when we arrived we were greeted by a barmaid with next to none customer service experience, she couldnt give a friendly smile, chewed gum whilst talking directly in your face and really was not enthusiastic about being there at all. There was a young lad walking around in scuffed up joggers and t-shirt walking about sending food to tables, but for the benefit of the doubt I looked over all this. We were shown to our table that wasn't laid out for a reservation, I'm still 50/50 on whether it had been cleaned or not. We ordered our food which to be honest, I can't argue with the timing on the food, we had the loaded fries for a started which honestly was really really good which got the second star on this review alone, our main meals however were just... awful. My partner ordered the classic burger, which is apparently 2 prime beef burgers with shredded iceberg lettuce, fries and a dipping pit of burger sauce. What she received was as she described, 2 microwaved burgers, a flake of lettuce and a cob made of sand... luckily she's 6 months pregnant and craved chips! I on the other hand ordered the bbq chicken burger... honestly I'd never thought I'd have an inkling on what the illegitimate love child of a square of plasterboard and a dish sponge would taste like on a sand cob, but I guess in your late 20's you get more than you bargained for. The "cheese" was an aldi cheese slice, that had clearly been in the microwave with the plasterboard sponge, as the "cheese" formed a concrete layer around the "chicken" hurting my teeth to bite. To top this off... the way the "food" was presented... honestly, I'd expect that level of presentation to come from a soft play centre... both meals were £9.95 and £10.95... and honestly I could of got the same quality food from UK Chicken for £3.50... with a drink included. I decided I wanted a refund. Now, when I spoke to the barmaid who chews gum and gets paid to smile to the staff and not customers, she spoke in a voice suggesting of "are you serious?" I'm glad she got the manager, whom honestly. Was faultless. She listened to my quarrels and issued my refund, and apologised for the food quality. This pub, whilst small and quaint, should stay away from the food side of things and stick to being a local for those who enjoy it. Would possibly return for a drinks night and pool 👍

Food has gone down hill in the couple months since we last visited. Booked a table for 530pm. Ordered mains which were a bit disappointing but we ate them. At 620pm went to order desert only to be told they had stopped serving. At 620pm!!!! Absolute joke. Nowhere online, at the pub or by any of the staff does it say food stops being served at what we assume is 6pm. Why book people in at 530pm to eat when you apparently don't provide full service time. We left then and there. Wrote a letter of complaint because its out of order that no one told us. Won't be returning. There's most certainly better food at better pubs and frankly better service in terms of communication.

Quality is good but drinks are expensive. For two double vodka with tonic and redbull, I paid almost 15 quid.

We had the most amazing perfectly cooked meal Hunters chicken and a Mega mixed grill. The Guinness extra cold was also spot on. Staff polite and friendly. Lovely clean place throughout.

Came in for a meal this Sunday (26th March). Whilst not a michelin star restaurant, the quality was top notch for a pub Sunday lunch. Friendly Staff and plenty of parking space if needed.

We have never had a bad meal when visiting. We came today for Sunday Lunch and have got to praise Lauren, the dinner was absolutely delicious definitely worth the money! Would 100% recommend and will be back again soon.

Nice staff however after eating here as part of a large party they're not equipped to handle parties the food was very slow coming out then when it did it came in dribs and drabs a lot was over cooked and some even had plastic on the plates

Probably the worst most expensive sunday roast in notts

Not good. Chicken was old and dried out, veg was hard. Obviously not listening to the reviews. My beef was ok but the colly cheese was just to hard. Basically cauliflower boiled with cheese poured on top, not baked at all. Mentioned to waitress and was expecting a response!! Nothing . Not can we get you a drink or dessert ,, nothing. Wilnot be eating there again.

Food is brilliant, perfectly cooked and came out within a timely manner. We have visited on a couple of occasions recently and enjoyed it both times! The world cup had a brilliant atmosphere . All staff attentive and friendly. Nothings to much trouble. Nice spaces for private parties/meals with a minimal deposit to pay. Would definately recommend. Just needs somewhere for the kids to play. (my daughter loved the toy box at the private party however) EDIT!! THERE'S A CHILDREN'S PLAY AREA HIDDEN OUT THE BACK! And a little summer garden area! We missed it first time we visited. The food was just as delicious second time round too!
