This cafe and shop has relocated to a larger unit across from where it used to be and much of the seating is near a big window now. The coffee was sooooo good. They were very busy when I was in but customers orders were all coming out to be served in well organised order. There are local crafters areas inside the shop and a delicatessen. It’s a very nice place.

A friend and I (we both live at a distance) went for a walk round the environs of Gala - sadly on a day of constant drizzle - ending up in the town centre when we came across WHY NOT, virtually by accident. The coffees (2 different types) were excellent and the scones simply superb: so much so that we decided to stay and have 'seconds' all round. The cafe located at the rear of the premises which, in one sense is a pity as it is not very obvious to visitors but in another sense perhaps it actually adds to the quiet charm of the place. On the way out you can browse through some of the clothes and other items on sale . Would we return ?? Certainly YES !!

Relaxed, dog friendly cafe with a simple but decent menu choice - worth popping into when in the area with your dog.

An interesting venue which combines a very nice cafe with an antique shop and a delicatessen so why not which proved a pleasant experience, top marks to the young lady who produced blackcurrant jam for my scone.

Had lunch with my parents here before going to the tapestry. A great cafe with monster sandwiches and lovely baked goods. The shop and deli are also great and had a nice browse. The dog loved it and lots of room if others came in, he wasn't too crowded. A warm welcome from a team that obviously like their job and care about customers.

What a fantastic cafe for lunch! Lovely friendly and helpful staff and the food was amazing! We opted for the platters to share from the deli and they were fabulous! Definitely recommend this cafe. Some lovely gifts in the shop too which didn’t disappoint our visiting friends from Oz. Definitely a hidden gem.

We went in to visit the excellent cheese counter and then decided to have some lunch. Opting for the cheese and meat platter it did take a while to come as the lady who prepared it was also serving at the cheese store. However, when it did - Wow. Great selection of cheeses, charcuterie, bread, crackers, sundried tomatoes etc etc. Delicious and well worth waiting for.

Too easy to drop in for a coffee and the best bacon roll in Gala. Asking for a crispy bacon roll, you get a crispy bacon roll. Good ambience and friendly staff without exception. As the name suggests: Why Not?

Great coffee and friendly service... more importantly, plenty of tables and seats. Went here instead of Costa, who have taken Covid 'guidance' to a level of unsurpassed stupidity, with most of the tables and chairs tied up and blocked off, with rude, aggressive staff enforcing the 'regulations'. I'll be choosing Why Not? from now on!!!

Two take away cappuccinos (get a large - the regular is tiny) - one had no coffee in it just milk - didn't know until we were at the car - can't taste it in there because of having masks on. Person who served us didn't seem to want to be there either £5

Great coffee and tasty food. I have been a few times in the last couple of months, the staff are always polite and friendly. Slightly more expensive than other cafes in Galashiels but you get what you pay for! I would recommend the sharing platter (attached a photo). Good location for bringing more people to the town centre in Gala/ next to the train station and you can have a look around the shop afterwards too.

Stopped in for some lunch today. Friendly service with a good and varied choice of menu. Offers half portions of meals if more suitable. Brilliant value. Hot and cold options available. Felt like the teapot was bottomless, think it was 3 cupfuls in total!

Wonderful food and so nicely presented and the young man serving was so polite and professional. Only negative was the disappointing vegetarian options for my sister. Macaroni cheese is more suited to a cafe menu. But a lovely evening none the less.

Got to say, I’ve never had a bad meal or experience in here. The ham hock and lentil soup as amazing, the steak and mushroom pie was outstanding. It was packed with lean steak in a lush, beefy broth type gravy. Great fies, a la dente peas and everything was piping hot and cooked to order. Even the plates were warm, which I always appreciate. The staff were great and the owner is a real friendly guy. If yer heading North or South on the A68, make sure this is yer pit stop, even for a coffee and cake. Made me smile today whilst I was eating, it was that good. It looks like a greasy spoon if you pass it on the road, but it’s not! It’s on a par with very good pub grub, and it’s really clean inside, as is the kitchen which I passed on the way to use the bathroom.

Go here now before everyone else figures out what amazing value this place is! The drive through the Scottish countryside is stunning (a half-hour drive from the railway stop at Galashiels). The owners have created something special that I simultaneously want to keep to myself and share with the world. Oxana's hosting (and baking and wine-pairing) skills mean you are welcomed with friendly service, clear explanations of the wine pairings and amazing, sweet treats. We have been twice - once in September and once in November - and from beginning to end, our glasses were never empty, and we were treated to amazing service. Now, the food is really something to talk about. Bryn is doing something special here. The food is fresh and innovative while remaining down to earth and approachable. A simple parsnip soup sent our table to heaven with its perfect spice. We had pork belly with the crunchiest crackling and lentils with vegetables that were flavoured so beautifully I couldn't tell what was in them. Blue cheese with truffled honey had all of us begging for more. Every bite is a delight, and some of it was items I wouldn't normally order. This food, this place, is truly something special, reflecting our Borders community and some of the best food in Scotland. Go now!
