Whitby's Fish & Chip Restaurant in Doncaster

We were staying locally so called in for tea. It was busy but we were seated quickly. Service was quick and friendly. Great food and large portions. Unfortunately no room to try the puddings. Best fish and chips we have had for ages. Curry sauce and mushy peas were great.

Had fish & chips and a pie from the takeaway tonight. Staff asked if I wanted gravy for the pie so asked for it in a carton as we were taking them home and the box has holes in them. They had put the peas in a carton to save them leaking. Staff said there would be a charge for the gravy if I had a carton🤣terrible whrn your spending over £20.00 for your meals. Nice food but terrible service for price of a plastic carton will not be going back!!

Simply a top fish n chip shop - & that's from someone who is really fussy about his fish n chips!! Batter was crispy, fish was moist & not greasy, chips were tasty & the mushy peas were tastetastic. Job done 10/10 😍😍

Another fantastic experience at Whitby’s Doncaster today! The restaurant was busy but we were seated straight away and served very quickly. All of food was amazing - generous portions and cooked to perfection. We highly recommend the halloumi, grilled salmon, steak pie, lemon cheesecake.. well basically everything! The quality of the food here is always excellent and very reasonably priced. The restaurant is spacious, clean and comfortable with great decor and a nice relaxed atmosphere. Efficient and friendly service from the whole team. Special mention and thanks to Roxy who was our server tonight. She expertly took our orders and advised us on menu options to ensure we got everything we wanted and the best experience possible. She was friendly, thoughtful and made us laugh, checked we were ok at regular intervals but never intrusive. She was amazing from start to finish and really added to the enjoyment of our evening. Thank you so much Roxy!

The fish and chips are excellent but the specials are superb. The grilled prawn starter was amazing and the pan fried sea bass as good as I have eaten anywhere. My guest enjoyed her paved cos with squad and new potatoes. So not just fish and chips

This is the best fish and chip shop. I visited five years ago when working. I was near the area and thought I’d pop in and boy they didn’t disappoint point. Hot and fresh food. Staff polite and friendly I had a can of pop and it was ice cold.

Hmm I went to the take away and was expecting amazing things. I had a small chips and scraps (I went in for a fishcake butty but discovered they don't sell proper fishcakes!!). Simply put they weren't great. Okay, but not great

Again if you read my reviews I'll be honest . Welcomed with a smile always a good start .staff very friendly.. Food came very quick and was absolutely beautiful and cooked perfectly and plenty of it .. Even I didn't finish mine .. Highly recommend this place clean and tidy nice little bar ..

Tried the sister location for the first time after years of threatening to, and it didn't disappoint. Fish and chips quality up there, mushy peas top notch, staff were super friendly and offered great service. We actually preferred it as it felt roomier and tables weren't as crammed in. Oh and vs the one closer to Sheffield, this place offers a grill menu too. Drinks, well as with anywhere now a tad pricey IMHO, and if I was being a little critical, need to throw a few more starberries into that Knicker bocker glory lol certainly a highly recommended 👍

I visited my elderly father and brought him for an early tea. We were served by a young man called Lewis who was delightful and very obliging. He made our experience even nicer. Thank you Lewis.

It’s not the best fish and chips she’ll get anywhere. I mean they literally bring it from the takeaway into the restaurant and you pay for the service. It’s quite expensive for what it is but it’s pleasant. It’s a place or lots of people bring their elderly Mums on a Friday, which is exactly what I do.

Good food but the service was appalling in particular jorja made us feel unwelcome and was rude

Food is exactly what I expect at the price point options do stray far enough away from fish to cover everyone. Desserts and starters are reasonable as is the drink selection. Staff are pretty friendly and it's never a long wait for food or drinks. It can however because of the building itself I think get a little noisy.

Gluten free/celiac options are a welcome plus as usually I cannot eat anywhere but the batter used here is clean and didn't make me ill which yes is a huge plus haha! The peas were lovely and the service was polite and quick considering they seemed busy! The young lad that served me was friendly and had charisma 👍🏻 I will be back. I didn't eat in the restaurant so I cannot comment on that. Thank you Whitby's, thank you for catering to my health requirements whilst still being tasty 😋 😊 😀

Nice Fish & Chips restaurant, ample parking, and good access to restaurant. Greeted on entry and taken to table, overall nice decor and atmosphere, menu is obviously focused on seafood options, but there were a couple of different choices. We had haddock, chips, and mushy peas, The fish was very tasty, not greasy, and the chips were great. Had a couple of coffees, and it came to £34 so it was a pretty good value. Toilets were upstairs, but a lift was available. Would definitely visit again.

Never had a bad meal from here. No booking, just turn up.

Generally fabulous however was disappointed when we were being served that a person who appeared to be a supervisor came and told the lady that another table wanted something and interrupted. She then just walked away while the poor lass just said she would 'do it.' I felt the supervisor seemed quite arrogant and could have rather helped!

Clean, cozy, modern restaurant. Guests are kindly received. The service staff is kind and helpful. I ate fish and salads. We ate fish and chips in many places during our trip. But we have eaten the most perfect and delicious fish here so far. The portions are large, the price-value ratio is good. Homemade taste world. We will be returning guests.

We saw it and liked it. It was worth stopping and visiting. The place is nice and clean, tidy and patinated. I like it a lot. The service is polite, kind and helpful. The food is heavenly and has a unique flavor that cannot be compared to anything else. ♥️ This is where we were first asked if we wanted the fish with or without the skin. At the end, we asked for ice cream, which brought the quality described above. Thank you and we are back, I recommend you try it too.

First time at the Doncaster restaurant. Absolutely fabulous with excellent service.

First time at Whitby's yesterday and it was a delight. Great venue and location, modern and fresh and the staff great too. Food was top draw, zero complaints. We were a family of 5 so ordered some kids food (1 nuggets and 1 sausage both great) and 3x regular cod and chips. Would and will definitely go again, and soon.

Absolute pleasure of a lovely takeaway & restaurant bar eatery, a very pleasant atmosphere and lovely staff with peaceful calming and quality of welcoming with a highly tasteful amount of fresh food on the menu !! Highly recommended by myself- as this is a personal favorite food place to eat a delicious favorite choice of foods with family and friends. Thank you 👍 😊

Take away marvellous, taste wise, delicious all my questions I asked were answered with exceptional knowledge of the fish and potatoes used, Haddock I asked young lady with fantastic manners and the knowledge. Pure white fish, chipped potatoes equally tasty. Salt & vinegar free to use, all food in food grade cartons ie boxes DELICIOUS definitely going back. Price was exceptionally reasonable.

Well, what can I say? This was an absolutely fabulous place to come and eat. From the moment my colleague and I walked into the restaurant to the moment we left, the whole team were warm, professional and engaging. They are obviously working in a place that they enjoy, and support each other superbly. In particular, Gillian, Faye, and Rachel are worthy of a shout out. On top of that, the food was simply divine. Between us ee had the floured cod and the battered haddock. Both were beautifully white fillets lightly and delicately fried with chips that were heavenly. Another surprise (and a rare one in England) was the subtle sharp vinegar and pepperiness to the mushy peas, that weren't simply pureed but still had a little bite in them. The prices are extremely good especially given the very high quality of the food. If you're in town on work or simply visiting for the races, you can't go wrong with a stop here...you won't regret it!

Fantastic service. Gorgeous food which arrived really hot. Drinks a little on the expensive side for soft drinks but on the whole it's a really good experience. Will definitely be coming back to try other dishes.

Great food ,great service ,pleasant surroundings. Fourth visit ( since discovering this restaurant late last year).We have so far never left feeling disappointed. Beautiful cod ,just the right amount of batter .lovely chips and the garden peas are delicious. The portions are huge .Despite the restaurant being extremely busy ( every visit ) we didn't wait too long to be seated .The restaurant have a brilliant system, ensuring every table is cleaned as soon as empty.Very hygienic restaurant. The staff are always polite and helpful despite being rushed off their feet .Well worth a visit

Excellent. Staff are efficient and friendly, food is always excellent and it’s always very clean. The temperature can sometimes be uncomfortable, but we’ve now figured out which tables aren’t blasted by the air con, so happy days! 😁

The restaurant itself is clean and offers both dine-in and takeaway options. The batter was light and crispy. The chips were perfectly cooked – golden on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Excellent fish and chips, the best we've found in the area. Regularly travel from Retford to Doncaster just for these fish and chips. Haven't tried any alternatives on the menu because we love the traditional fish, chips and proper mushy peas so much!

Lovely place to eat Fish and chips. Friendly people in the restaurant, best Fish & chips in town. Lots of parking place around the restaurant. Lunch including drinks, sauces , peas around 20£ per person. Normally no reservations needed, but arriving at 12 no problem, but around 1pm the restaurant was fully occupied but that is normal when the quality is super. Original recipe backed in beef dripping of the best thinkable quality!!

had scampi and chips the quality was good and portions were also very good would.recommend

Called for a take out 13th January, fish was fine the meal was let down by a portion of chips that obviously had been re- heated, had a tough outer skin, the meal left an horrible after-taste lasting all night. Would recommend using your local chippy. Would be better value.

Go to whitby you won't regret it. We had a wonderful meal there and service is quick, the staff are really nice and friendly. They are very efficient too. we had 3 courses and drinks for 4 people bill was very reasonable

Always nice food. This time I certainly think I ended up with a small not a regular.

We went at the busiest time over the Christmas holiday, so we had to wait around 30 mins for a table. It was worth the wait. Really tasty fish and chips. Batter on the fish was delicious. Staff were great. Would highly recommend 👌.

Having enjoyed your food before and having had recommendations from friends I was looking forward to this. However, I was left disappointed by a number of things. Firstly, the member of staff who served me the food was somewhat rude and said I could help myself to salt and vinegar. She left the box open and walked away. I've never experienced this before in any fish and chip restaurant! Secondly, while the cod was well cooked there was very little batter despite asking for a normal battered fish. This is disappointing. I paid a good amount of money for my meal and to be honest I expected better

Excellent food, the restaurant is in a converted Fire Station so it is very loud when busy. Back again, the staff are really lovely and the food was excellent. Really good value for money. Lunch you are looking at about £15/ person.

Been a few time to whitby's doncaster and satisfied everyvtime ,great atmosphere lovely staff and the food is to die for. Just taken my sister and her hubby and they loved it too.

Went for a meal for my mother’s birthday Found out that all the food is cooked in beef dripping which was I issue for my brother as he is a pescatarian He ended up with a fish pie that was very bland. After ordering mine and informing them I’m highly allergic to shellfish they returned 5-10 minutes later to inform me that all the food is cooked in the same oil, chips, fish and shellfish . I was unable to eat unless I wanted omelette or boil potatoes Very poor in my eyes and I find it hard to believe that cross contamination is except able in this restaurant
