Whin’s Kitchen used to be a regular for us however it was very disappointing to go back recently and see that they now serve meat on the menu. Whin’s was unique for being one of the only fully vegetarian and vegan restaurants in the area - now it’s just like any other of the myriad of local restaurants. Nothing particularly unique about the food, service is adequate. I would also avoid going with small children or babies (or a wheelchair for that matter). The restaurant is primarily booth seating so getting a pram or wheelchair in is practically impossible. Because of this, they are also unable to accommodate high chairs; we were given a less-than-ideal camping type chair which attached to the table top, of which I questioned the safety. It was not worth the trip or the cost for us.

Tried this place twice since new ownership to give it a chance. It’s the worst cafe in the area now. Service was absolutely awful, first time waited 2 hours for food, second time waited an hour, chef refused to put some bacon on a sandwich which said it had bacon on. Asked for avocado on wrap, they came to check it a few times to confirm, then didn’t even put it on the wrap. Food wasn’t even that great in the end, menus have completely changed since new ownership. Definitely never coming back again.

Our first visit to Whins Kitchen for their Spanish theme evening. The restaurant has amazing views, truly gorgeous and the place itself is lovely, with a great atmosphere. The vegan food was delicious, padron peppers, potato croquetas, meatballs, paella and churros with chocolate sauce. We could not fault the food or service which was excellent from the front of house team. We saw chef Reem on our way out and told her how fabulous the food was, with her and fellow chef Adam in the kitchen doing everything, well done. The only downside and I've not marked it down for this but they need to address it, is the choice of drinks is limited and poor selection of vegan friendly wine with only one a red available only by the bottle, so we didn't bother as my husband was driving and I didn't want a full bottle. I find it bizarre a vegetarian/vegan restaurant does not label and offer suitable vegan wines especially when they are serving vegan food. Overall though it was a great evening and we will return for other themed events.

I actually found it rather entertaining. Clearly some training of staff required, told only scrambled eggs available when there is a tray of eggs in the kitchen. Chefs must be top notch when they can't crack an egg, maybe the fried or poached chef was on a day off. Waitress table were they just sit and polish cutlery, sod the busy 4 tables waiting for service, 1 chef at a time goes for a wonder with food taking ages. Best day out I've had in a while watching how not to run a business, get people in who know what they're doing and this place could be a gold mine. If this place is making a profit god help us

Extremely disappointed, and definitely won’t go back! We ate at Whins yesterday after first dining there 2 years ago. It used to be good, but the service and quality we experienced yesterday was dire! 3 of us had lunch, and 2 out of 3 meals were awful (with one meal not being eaten at all). The young girl who served us was lovely, and it was obvious she was trying to empathise with our experience. The manager still charged us full price though, and at £47 for 3 meals and 2 brews, it was an absolute rip off! Especially as 1.5 meals went uneaten! What a shame this place has gone downhill as the setting is lovely!

Went here on fathers day. Firstly the food and venue are amazing! The view from the restaurant is stunning on a sunny day and the food was way up there with some of the best veggie food I have ever had. The only thing that really let it down was the service. We waited a long time for food and had to chase the staff for our drinks order a couple of times, as it took around 20 minutes before they eventually turned up. The chefs/kitchen staff were bringing food to tables as it seemed that the waiting staff couldn't keep up. That said, it was very busy on the day we visited which probably didn't help. Would I go back? Yes absolutely I will this was overall a great place to eat some top quality vegetarian/vegan food.

Afternoon tea with no tea. Pre booked for Father’s Day, food was good but service was appalling. When we were eventually shown to our table we had to wait over 30 minutes for drinks (ordered lemonade and tea which comes with the afternoon tea) which we had to chase, was served the lemonade but not the tea after being there for over an hour and asking two waitress for the tea we gave up and asked for the bill and tea to go, unbelievably we were then over charged for the tea to go and still not severed any oat milk just black tea and takeout cups so we just got the extra tea taken off the bill and left as we had been there for over an hour and a half by this point. During our visit we also saw the waitress arguing with the chefs who were getting so frustrated with the lack of service they were having to come out of the kitchen and serve the food themselves. Staff were so overwhelmed and unwelcoming it was uncomfortable to be there which is why we gave up asking repeatedly for things and just wanted to leave, as local vegan it is extremely disappointing that we had this experience.

I hate to leave low ratings for small businesses but I whole heartedly hope this is taken as constructive criticism. We arrived two hours before close with majority of tables empty outside and a couple of spare tables inside - however we were refused service as “too busy” - this was on a sunny Sunday (father’s day). We only wanted drinks - no food. Please invest in staffing going forward as this is quite unacceptable. You must understand that it was a 45 minute round trip to visit - completely wasted. It is also worth reviewing your order processing and kitchen as I would hope efficiencies can be made to improve service. The spot itself is lovely and this will make a lovely cafe under better management. I’d like to note that the staff member that let us know we would not be served was perfectly polite and respectful - she was clearly not happy and a little embarrassed to refuse service.

Customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Came with my daughter and her friend and manager? Was grumpy at best. No "fish n chips" or "hotdogs" which is what whins is famous for! Went for ice cream and asked to see the ingredients in the sauce and when we tried to add it to our ice cream the bottle was SNATCHED off us. Staff were berated and yelled at in front of us. This experience let you down and I will NEVER come again. I've been before and was excellent (food and service). I don't know what's changed but it's not for the better. Such a disappointment. You can put up with ok food, but the customer service can make or break the experience. This place is broken.

There is one staff member who is absolutely awful. Customer service is appalling, made me very uncomfortable. Extremely rude, acted angrily towards us, got annoyed with us for being afraid when a wasp came to our table (I have an extreme phobia, to the point of panic attacks, of which I am in therapy for) and didn’t attempt to help, only told us off for complaining about it, she also argued with other staff members in front of customers. I definitely will not be returning after this experience, and this particular member of staff needs to be dealt with. I also work in customer service, and if I behaved the way this woman did, towards customers especially, I would immediately be fired. Edit: I’ve seen other reviews also complain about this member of staff. Definitely something needs to be done, she does not deserve to work in customer service with an attitude like that. Edit 2: After seeing the response from Whins to some of these reviews, I’m even more appalled. Extremely unprofessional and rude. What awful management. Such a shame that the owner of a vegan cafe is such a terrible person.

Had such high hopes for this place but due to horrific service will never be visiting again. We booked the Greek Taster evening. All was going well despite seeing a few serving hiccups. The food was, on the whole, lovely. I unfortunately noticed an annoying habit of the more mature waitress which made me feel uncomfortable. Everytime she passed round the back of my seat she rubbed her hand across it and even rested dirty plates on it at one point when speaking to another customer. My partner and I switched seats just prior to the main course to try and enjoy the evening. The waitress asked if we'd switched due to the sun I politely pointed out her frustrating habit. Instead of apologising or even saying she didn't realise she did it and saying she'd be more careful in future, she angrily said she didn't, only just stopping short of calling me a lier, I felt verbally attacked. When she brought our food I told her I didn't appreciate being called a lier her response was an extremely abrupt "no one else has ever complained, I'll take your word for it"-clearly not doing! That was our evening completely ruined, I couldn't stomach anything more to eat. I spoke to the manager who did apologise and said she'd speak to the waitress involved. Yes, we have been compensated by our drinks (we only had 3 and 2 halves between us) and 50% being taken off the food bill (having not eaten the 2 main courses out of the 5 course menu), but I felt no other option but to leave half way through the evening. I'm utterly shocked that someone within that industry would dream of speaking to a customer in such a way. Fabulous location and fantastic ethos but seriously look at who you're employing!

We stumbled across this cafe set in a lovely location as we drove through the area (we aren’t from close by). It’s well sign posted from the road and the signs state it serves breakfast/coffee etc, just what we were looking for. However, it’s not clearly stated outside or on the advertising boards/ flags (not that we saw) that it’s vegetarian/vegan. I have absolutely nothing against this type of restaurant, actually I think it’s a fantastic idea and I’m sure many people are looking for more establishments such as this. I just feel it could be made clearer from outside to avoid any confusion. My partner and I didn’t realise it was vegetarian, until after we’d gone in and sat down. Once we had looked at the menus and had realised, we then felt rude getting up and leaving (yes, we are cowedly I will admit) 😆 The food we did have was ok, just not what we fancied or anticipated when going in. The views from the windows are amazing and it’s a lovely restaurant Inside and out if you are looking for vegetarian or vegan places to eat. I felt it was slightly pricey for what we had, although this is the first vegan/ vegetarian restaurant I’ve been to, so I can’t say I have anything to compare it to on that front.

I really wanted to love this place but sadly everything fell kind of flat. The food wasn't that good - veggie roast. Everything kind of tasted the same, it was incredibly rich and sweet with nothing to refresh the pallet. The deserts me and my partner had were awful. Looked great, but bad. My trillionaire slice could have been in a chiller which may have helped the texture and stopped the base being mush, but I don't think the taste could have been salvaged. My partner had an apple crumble with custard but was delivered a red berry crumble which he said wasn't ace. The service was perfectly adequate. I have no idea how the floor staff coped with the acoustics in there. All hard edges and the background noise clatter was unbearable. Luckily I had ear phones, but they weren't enough to block out the sound of dogs barking!

The food didn't live up to our expectations sadly. The starter was luke warm and an odd texture but was tasty enough. The Wellington main was lacking any flavour and I always absolutely love lentils! The same with the mash and carrot accompanying it; also lumpy and the mash was even chewy in places. The dessert was very dense and the custard was just not a nice flavour or texture. We left most of our meal. Service was not fabulous either after the initial greet and taking our order. Having said all that, the location and views are absolutely beautiful. Beautiful place and view but such a shame.. maybe because it was a Sunday and the usual staff weren’t working but the 2 serving girls seemed very unprofessional, slow and just incompetent. Saw the chef wander in with 2 big bags of salad from Aldi. None of the juice is fresh, all from concentrate. Food that was ordered had half the listed ingredients missing. Lady sat across from us waited 30 mins for a latte, lady beside her waited about 20 mins to even be served so ended up leaving! Breakfast boards and menus everywhere even though breakfast stopped hours prior. Trying to get an ice cream was a task, the shed looked messy, items on shelves knocked over and unorganised ect. Shoddy experience overall, had such high hopes. Unfortunate. P.S. was not busy

We were amazed to randomly find a dedicated vegetarian restaurant on our walk from our canal boat. The food was delicious with many excellent vegan and vegetarian offerings. We will be back!

We tried Whins for the first time and were extremely impressed! We tried the arancini balls, buffalo cauliflower, club sandwich and mushroom pate to share between four. We had biscoff cheesecake to finish and I was gobsmacked to find out that all the desserts were vegan. There was nothing to complain about at all, even more so, everything was delicious and we will definitely be making the hour trip to get here again!

As someone else has written, we arrived with a nut allergy sufferer in our party. Our waitress asked if there was anyone with an allergy, so I declared it. We were then told she shouldn't really serve us. The person with the allergy was then questioned as to how severe it was (he carries an epipen). She hummed and hawed for a bit, then disappeared to consult someone else. After some time she reappeared to tell us, once again, that she shouldn't really serve us explaining the principles of cross contamination (which we are familiar with). I'm afraid I had lost patience at this point. The person in question has been managing his allergy for forty years, eats out on a regular basis in a variety of restaurants (including Indian and Thai restaurants who do use peanuts in cooking) and is perfectly capable of making decisions about his health and wellbeing. As a previous reviewer has said, it is possible to use ingredients such as peanut butter without cross contamination. It would be nice to have been able to review the food, but on the basis of my experience today I really couldn't recommend the place.

Went here for the 5 course Mexican taster menu and the food was top notch. Extremely tasty and varied. The pre booking system needs some tweaking but otherwise a fantastic evening.

Absolutely love the views and the food here but the older lady with silver/grey hair really needs some lessons in customer service! Her attitude is abysmal. Saw people coming up to her to order/pay because she was taking too long to attend to them and she snapped at them to sit down. Wasn't just one person either, happened 3-4 times whilst we were sat eating. Really ruins the atmosphere unfortunately as it makes you feel like they don't want you there and she couldn't care less.

I have eaten here once before; the food was good and the view beautiful. However, when we reserved a table today as a party of five Whins Green Kitchen refused to serve one of us because he has a nut allergy. There was no 'at your own risk' just a total refusal. I can find no reference to this on their website nor on their menus. I post this to save anyone else who has an allergy sufferer in their party from wasting their time because of the lack of transparency. I won't be back.

Beautiful restaurant in a picturesque setting. We did not have a reservation but managed to get a table after showing up for a birthday brunch. As a life long vegetarian I have never experienced a full vegan/vegetarian restaurant in Lancashire so this place from opening was always in my wish list. It did not disappoint. Service was fantastic, fantastic choice and the food 10/10! The soup of the day, carrot & cauliflower, was delicious. My 8 year old fussy eater had a try and cleared the bowl. Hallumi burger was a burst of flavour with the added sweetness from a dollop of hummus wrapped in a brioche bun with salad. Ice cream was delightful to finish off with. We were too full to try more but the cake display looked great and certainly gives me more reason to return and try those. I had one small gripe which was the parking, the car park was completely full and same on the street outside. We were forced to park quiet a distance away and disappointed that no designated disabled parking was available in the car park. Hopefully they address this in the near future.

Our first visit following an afternoon walk along the canal. A good spot to stop off for a drink or an ice cream. They also serve a vegan menu. We just had a coffee sat outside on the terrace. Beautiful views from the outside, especially on a sunny day.

Food was spilt all over bag when delivered. 3 separate prawn dishes, king prawn and normal prawn and all were off. Naan was claggy. Complained and they said I could have a refund then they phoned again and said they wanted the food back so I waited over an hour for them to pick it up. They then phoned me and tried to tell me I had eaten all the food so no refund. My kids ate one of two chicken dishes. The rest went back including the 3 prawn dishes. Couldn't say how the curry tasted because it ended up spilt all over the bag.
