Wheatsheaf in Rushcliffe

A lovely, welcoming pub. This isn’t a restaurant, it’s a village pub with food service all cooked and served by the landlady. Portions are very generous and the prices are very good. On the menu today was a range of home cooked meals including lasagne, chilli and a chicken curry. There was also scampi, chicken nuggets and cheeseburgers. A new light bites menu includes Carla’s amazing Greek salad. I had the chicken nuggets - very definitely adult nuggets with huge chunks of chicken breast. Definitely the best I’ve ever had. Drinks prices were good and there were some offers as well - I was able to double up on my gin for just £2 extra. Have been before and will definitely be back again.

We are so lucky to have this pub on our doorstep. It's a proper traditional village pub, sadly something of a dying breed, so we cherish pubs like this when we find them. The pub is in Cropwell Bishop, a lovely Nottinghamshire village famous for its Stilton cheese made just across the road from the pub (and the Creamery is worth a visit too). For a small village pub there's a great selection of drinks and there are always drinks offers available. We visited on a Friday and there was a promotion on two pints of Birra Morreti for £7 - well it would be rude not to! There's a main bar area and two snugs. We chose the larger of the two snugs as we wanted to order food as well. Food is served until 7pm Wednesday through to Saturday. All the food is cooked fresh to order by the landlady and the menu is written up each day on a chalk board - a proper traditional village pub! Portions are very good and prices very reasonable for the quality of the food. We had scampi and chips - a bargain at £11 each with lots of scampi.
