Was thinking why is everybody at the place next door.and not here. I KNOW.WHY.NOW. CHARGED US £38 FOR 2 SMALL CURRIES 3 ROTIS AND 2 DRINKS LOL. IT said £8 a curry. Should have been £24 max if chapatis nd 2.drinks cost 8 pound even..THE MAN WAS CONSTANTLY ASKIMG AND YOU WANT MORE.FOOD ASWEL. Very bad honestly

People always said try sultans but NOTHING beats westgates currys.. Alhamdulillah top guys and top food..

Mouldy rice, curry taste like stew, no spice tinned tomatoes stuffed on top just made it taste like eating a tin of tomatoes. 1 chappati cost 50p for four and water. And it was dry and hard. Lamb was over cooked probably old like the rice. Pillu rice taste like plain rice with pink yellow food colouring plus a bit of green mould for flavour no veg no flavour cost £2.10 for mouldy rice. Just abysmal.

Been recommended by a friend of mine and really impressed with the tasty curries. Will definitely visit again.

No frills but tasty food. 4 of us went for a meal, starters and main, under 50 quid. No complaints. Would go again

Going to the toilet was like making your very own Blair witch project, the food was really bad, curry was very spicy, rotis (chapattis) were very thick and undercooked, ordered chips which came 15mins after the curry and were full of oil. Probably the worst place to eat at in the while of the uk considering this is bradford and there is sooo much competion around. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Went to the source Westgate for eggs Benedict and was extremely disappointed. It’s always been good but is under new management, so won’t be going back.

Went with some friends, if you're looking for something fancy then this place isn't for you, if you want tasty food then I would recommend.

This is one no nonsense curry house and I mean it , it’s more like a lads place ..the deco very simple no fancy stuff on tables ..toilets trust me *avoid* go before you come here ..or wait and go to a local McDonald’s or Tesco etc after u finish ..the food is really nice and the Asian tea wow ..cheap and cheerful

Nothing fancy, no white napkins or posh-looking decor, which for much of the time only serves as 'fool's gold' to the customer anyway. This is simply THE best and most authentic curry you can get in the curry capital of the north, Bradford. You know why it's authentic? Cos Indian and Pakistani people go in there to eat, as well as your average white British person. If you like a bit of glamour then please go elsewhere. If you're after something lovely, original and really tasty, then you need to visit this place. Be warned! If you're visiting from the south and the like, please order a 'mild' instead of a 'medium', and so on!

It’s rough, I walked in to be greeted by a bum sitting on the steps in the entrance smoking his roll up??? Confused and somewhat coughing from his cigarette smoke I walked in made my order looking at the chairs and tables it was tatty and grimey. Ordered food went and was amazed at the old school taste! Just too dodgy around that end dark gloomy.

Been going to Westgate many years with mates. Food is always great and chapatis are as fresh as they come. People moan about the shared toilet etc. I don’t know about you but I don’t go to a restaurant for the toilet, I go for the food.

After 20 plus years that I have eaten here the food is still the best in Bradford, it is very basic decor and the loo's are from a scene in Trainspotting but the food is to die for. Tip#1 Have a pee before you go and order Tip#2 Chicken and spinach masala .. Enjoy

Unless you drive a taxi leave it alone. Average customers wanting a decent curry go elsewhere. Not very welcoming to the curry loving Bradfordian.

Must say this place is a little gem you walk into a small place full of Asians enjoying a cheep and cheerful meal not over priced and good portions will defo return .

Food is brillant and the staff are brillant but the only problem is the currys that are served (the meat currys) ate always in very small pieces which is really annoying....or i would have gave a 5! RECENTLY WENT TO THIS RESTAURANT ON SAT EVENING IT WAS EMPTY! ORDERED THE FOOD THE CHAPPTTIS WERE COLD AND THE CURRY WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING! ON JUNE 2018! This place has been going for decades, and for good reason. There's not many places I divert often from either the Karachi or Kash. I've been here a few times and can't really complain. Is it as good as the best places I've eaten in. No. But it is a lot better than the average curry house you will eat in/from. This place is definitely worth a try.

Been visiting Westgate for over 20 years now, and to be honest the ambience hasn't changed that much despite a revamp about 5 years ago which 'lightened' up the decor and replaced the clearly 'car boot sale' tables and chairs. The food is always decent, but the quality is dependent on how good the gristle removing machines at the pork/beef/chicken/lamb/mutton factories were that day. Portions have been reduced massively in size, but I guess that's a consideration as I can only recall one price rise over the last 20 years... So you get what you pay for. However, because all the food is very good (taking into account the above caveat), I'd gladly pay 1997 prices (including inflation +5%), if the portion sizes were how they were. Another consideration, well for a 'regular' diner like myself, is that there does seem to be a difference in the same dish, depending on the 'chef' who's cooking it... Either that or it's a looking back a long way thing, in that I remember some dishes being a lot nicer on certain visits than others. There is however, a massive elephant in the room. One that other people have mentioned, and one that will put off a large number of those reading these reviews. The restaurant is situated underneath a very run down taxi office. Run down to a point of total neglect. The problem is that the restaurant's toilets are upstairs, on the same level as the office. Now whilst the restaurant itself is fairly well presented (but nowhere near as nice looking as the one DIRECTLY next door.. Their waiters wear waistcoats and carry clothes at all times!!) it is a step down in comparison. And whilst there have been attempts to facilitate a more wide ranging clientele (the actual toilet is pretty new, and the hot tap now has hot water!!)... There is no escaping the fact that climbing up the stairs does lead to a very dark and filthy environ, it's almost like something from the hallway of a slum tenement. Carpet almost black from cigarette ash, abandoned pieces of furniture littered about (again, lacquered black/yellow by cig smoke), broken strip lights etc. What this means is you go to Westgate and, if you need the toilet anyway) enter two different worlds. My advice... Pop to the toilet before you go... Stay for the excellent food, but don't get carried away by the less than interested staff... Hence the 3/5 star rating. Now, if they can just stop the crackheads from trying to squat in said toilets, they'd be making a decent start!

Enjoy exploring different restaurants around Leeds and Bradford.. Recommended from a friend at work. Have to say this is now my new weekend curry after a night out! Great food, a bit spicy but that was my own fault for being brave and asking for the hottest dish...I think the previous review was a bit harsh about the toilets seems very exaggerated especially when upstairs is actually part of the taxi base and not the restaurant.

Haven't been here in awhile. The place hasn't changed much, service was ok, staff seemed a bit short, if you put that to one side the food was absolutely quality stuff! Ordered a Chicken Karai with naan, came after 25 mins, however waiter was apologetic. Nan was soft and the karai, well it hit all my taste buds. After a previous review was reluctant to try the toilets but had a quick visit anyway. to my surprise toilets are visibly marked as from my last visit, I couldn't tell which door was for the restaurant toilet as there are 2 toilets one for the restaurant and one that belongs to the taxi base. I walked in and .... completely fine, nothing amazing like, but nothing worse for wear, but to my surprise was clean.So all in all, a place definitely worth a try, can understand why taxi drives rave on about the little place, its a little gem indeed. I will be coming back here with the Mrs.

Vine aquí tarde en la noche después de conducir casa internacional de Manchester. Me y la familia quería una comida que era rápido y completo de nuestros platos nos. Habiendo sido antes, pedimos un pollo y Cordero Karahi. Salió en gran distribución, caliente y llena de sabor!!! Tandoori rotis tandoor siempre a la mano, ya que el servicio era de primera categoría, y el gerente fue muy amable. Agradable tener un restaurante abierto hasta tarde y temprano por la mañana para aquellos que necesitan una comida rápida que no decepciona...

Fuimos de una recomendación de un amigo asiático y estaba encantado de probarlo... Cuando llegamos, todo parecía estar bien. La decoración estaba bien, en una especie de manera discreta. Pedimos nuestras comidas, y me impresionó lo barato que eran.

Fuimos allí el jueves con mi amigo. La comida era deliciosa, caliente y fresco. De lejos, el mejor en Bradford. De ahora en adelante es el único lugar para mí.

Excellent food everytime! My third visit with my best mate and ordered Chicken Jalfrezi and Meat Masala. Both dishes were consistent to previous visits and the chappatis were amazingly fresh and full of home made flavour - second to only mum! Wonderfully fresh and crispy salad with lovely traditional chutney served alongside the food. Ended up over-eating and having a belly full of food but couldn't resist after everything brought back childhood memories of authentic home cooked meals. Don't hesitate, a must try if in the local area and you'll never regret! 100%.

Been here a few times and never been disappointed at all eating here. A good sign for me is when you see a restaurant selling foreign cuisine, it is a very good sign if people from that culture eat there too. Let's just say, one of my best friends is of Kashmiri Pakistani background and when we eat out in Bradford this is usually the place he suggests. This place has been going a very long time, and is not surprising when you taste the food.Parking is easier here than the Kash or Karachi too. For me, it is hard to say Karachi or Westgate, I probably would have this place ahead by a whisker.

The Sheesh Mahal has gone upmarket and up itself so we gave it's more humble neighbour a try. Very nice and huge portions. The staff were kind enough to serve us even though we arrived just before closing. I had the ojri which is one of their traditional specialities- excellent and tender

This has got to be one of the most disgusting curry houses in the Bradford area and probably the country. From the time myself and my 4 pals entered, we were gobsmacked. Gobsmacked at how terrible the place is. Completely unfriendly staff and the place is filthy. The puppodums were stale and rubbery. Seekh kebabs and the meat masala were mediocre but the staff and cleanliness let this place down totally. Take my advice, don't waste your time or money.

A great place to have an evening meal. plenty of parking, or if drinking, there are taxis available next door. Staff are very friendly. Service is very quick. A little gem in the outskirts of Bradford!!

Ok so I tried this restaurant last night and I have 3 simple words to describe it...absolutely amazing food! The chap who served me was called zee and he was very friendly and down to earth, I asked him what he would recommend and he did not disappoint. When I took the first bite of my chicken masala my taste buds exploded with excitement. It was seriously one of the best currys ive ever tasted, would definitely recommend to friends and I am already planning my next visit.

My friends and I decided to go for a curry and heard about westgates from a few colleagues at work. We thought we would have a try and what a cracking surprise haven't had such authentic food in a long long time!. The food was cheaper than expected and will be happy to go again on the weekend

We stopped by here a couple weeks ago having exhausted most of the sit down eating options in Bradford over the last few years. From the outside it could be mistaken for a slightly grubby takeaway below a taxi office, but don't let the initial appearance put you off, nor should you allow the slightly sticky formica tables and minimal decor to send you running. Persevere and you'll be rewarded with freshly prepared, wonderfully flavoured cuisine that can put other more "upmarket" restaurants in the area to shame. Service was quick and pleasant and the prices very easy on the pocket. We'll certainly be revisiting Westgate to investigate the menu further!

Waa looking for a curry house at the top of town and lacked options till I heard about a new place from a friend of a friend, very glad I did. Clean and welcoming if quiet we quickly had menus and I picked a kebab sandwich, my mate fish pakora. Both arrived promptly with a nice salad and ratia dip, good flavour without being over spiced. The mains quickly followed my meat karai was filling, flavoursome and with above average quantity of meal again with salad and dip. Cracking meal, cost less than we were expecting and waa pleased to see more customers in aa we depated for the sparrow, think we'll be back.

OK, so the outside is a bit shabby and the tables are formica but the food is simply excellent. This is a really straightforward cafe which seems to be used by the taxi drivers from upstairs, there's nothing fancy but what you get tastes great and there's plenty of it. The staff were friendly and the bill tiny.Oh, and I think the TripAdvisor name is wrong, it's called the "Westgate".
