Wellington in St. Helens

This place used to be packed out in the 80s , almost 90, all seems to be dissapearing, people talk of community, theses places should be part of it, though the powers that be see them as socially negative, I don't know why that should be. Locally we all try to support the establishment and its staff. We'd 2nd Oct - Glad to see the pub open.

Its a shame the staff in the kitchen work hard to keep the place going but it’s loosing it customers they put some one in a pub wat can’t run it its empty on weekends not like it used to be

We where waiter on by Jessica and she very helpful and the Chef Sophia the best Hot meal, Jessica is a lovely young lady who served us our Meals. We would recommend Wellington Pub to all our Family & Friends.

Food wasn't very nice..vegetables still floating in water..roast potatoes were greecy..

Lovely carvery in here. Was quiet when we went so cant comment on what its like when its busy. Staff were nice and polite. Will go back again.

Visited here today for food and it was the worst experience of my life. Pub smelled like a dirty mop. Dog bowl with dirty water / hairs in left right by our table. And the food was ridiculously over priced. We paid almost £30 for ONE mixed grill and what we got was disgusting. The steak was burnt - not well done or overcooked proper burnt. The so called gammon was as flat as a pancake; I imagine the cheapest possible form of gammon a pub could buy. And the sausages were clearly chippy sausages - for almost £30 I was expecting a lot more. The starters came out barely warm but tasted ok. The fish and chips was vile - the fish was still swimming in the sea! It was soggy and watery and soaked my chips and plate. I literally had to remove the fish off my plate and soak it up using a napkin. The fish was also pink- ish inside so half got left. No one came to check on the food. No one came to ask if we was satisfied so we wasn’t given the opportunity to return the food unless we approached staff ourselves and we didn’t want to make a scene so just left. The meal cost approx. £60 - I was shocked at the overprice especially because the food was vile. Massively disappointed. Don’t know what’s happened because last time we visited here, from what I recall, it was lovely.

Sunday carvery staff and.service great not impressed with meal most of it been standing to long cold or like warm roast potatoes cold and hard not impressed but prices and staff good

Good meal. Nice staff. Just a mention, I think you could do with wheelchair access with all those stairs at back where car park is .

Carvery choice was OK, food from the hot plate was cool, then easily went cold by the time you sat to eat it, gravy very thin and watery, Been here a few times, but feel let down today. It wasn't very busy today either.

Really enjoyed our meal. We had a 'mini' mixed grill each. If that was a 'mini' mixed grill I'd like to see what a 'maxi' mixed grill looks like. Probably feed a small regiment. 🤣

Called in, lovely welcome from bar staff. Didn't sample any food so cannot comment on that.

Does a lovely carvery on a Sunday, mid week mini mix grill is the best.

The female chef has a very poor attitude towards customers. The gammon was very under cooked. And very runny gravy. Cant fault bar staff

Lovely staff make you feel wanted. Nothing was a bother for the lady Diana when my friend suddenly took ill. Went out her way to make sure she was fine. Keep up the good work. Thankyou

Quiet when we arrived service was fairly quick. Bar staff very pleasant. Bar felt a little expensive but generally a lovely little pub.

Arrived late afternoon. The female server/chef had one poor attitude. The carvery itself was excellent and have no complaints.

An absolutely brilliant pub if I do say so myself, I’ve been going to this pub on and off for a couple of months now. The atmosphere is great especially on open mic night, the service is one of the best I’ve ever seen all the bartenders are great my favourite would have to be George or the Kevin De Bruyne of pouring a pint is what I’d call him because that lad always delivers haha. Would always recommend this place. A nice place for some grub a drink and a good time

We went on Sunday afternoon, the carving was closed, we had a meal from their menu, the food service and price were verry good. We will comeback again.

Very expensive drinks, no wonder not many people in.

Really nice place, Food and cask ale seems to be generally good. Upgrading your burger beef mince would be a very good investment. I'll try the burgers again in a month or so. Hope that helps

Sunday carvery was lovely. Service from Stephanie was great, she even remembered me from the week before. Would have been 5 star for atmosphere but I had a crying child on a table next to me...who tried to bounce a yorkshire pudding off my head. That put a dampener on it, but not enough for me not to come back.

It's such a lovely place. Spotlessly clean and so well maintained. We felt comfortable and relaxed on our first visit here. The carvery was nice, and the mixed grill, although expensive, was huge. We will go again

Nice quiet beer garden to enjoy in the sun. Open mic night on Thursdays are great

Out for a Sunday afternoon drive. Popped in for lunch, specifically a roast. Friendly staff. We sat outside. A choice of three roast meats, beef, gammon and turkey. Between us we had one of each. Meats were moist and tender and good sized portions. Veg was tasty and well cooked , but not overcooked, I had Yorkshire pudding, gravy, roast potatoes, Cauliflower cheese and carrot and turnip (swede?). Plates cleared.

The Wellington has been taken over by Greene King, the same owners of The Grapes a bit further down the road. We went for the first time since COVID began on 27th April '23 and had two carveries. The food was well presented, but I was disappointed to find potatoes that were literally rotten, one boiled, in half in the hot water, and plainly visible - I lifted it out and left that one on the side. Of the roast potatoes that went on my plate, as I was eating, I noticed one was bad before putting my fork in it, so slid it to one side. When I finished I cut into it and it was completely rotten, black throughout, and came close to revisiting my lunch. I let the chef know, and I hope it was a one off problem with the supplier, but it might indicate a wider supply chain issue for Greene King. I can't hold that against the pub too much, but I'm surprised neither were noticed during preparation. I guess I'm just nostalgic for when the food was 'independent' and used local suppliers (notably Devlin's).

Staff are lovely, the food is great, very good size portions. Steak was cooked to perfection. Will definitely visit again.

Large chain pub with plenty of parking at the rear and nice decour inside, it is a foody pub but I just went in for the music jam night on a Thursday night. I was drinking carling ( not my first choice ) at £4.25 a pint - rather expensive for this area but they do put on 3 or 4 nights entertainment a week which obviously costs money.... friendly bunch of locals in on my visit 😃

Went on a Sunday. I had the carvery which was better than the last Toby carvery I had (this is not a Toby) There was plenty of choice of veg and three different meats. Staff are friendly. The pub was a bit chilly but it was early on.

Nice staff but that is where it ends. Won't return.

Food was ok but the service was shocking. Waiting for food at the carvery was like a scene out of one flew over the cuckoo's nest. Someone asked for mashed potato and the girl serving brought gravy. Waited about 20 minutes in line just for some average at best roast potatoes whilst the meat we were served during the blitz had chance to come back to life having rested on the plate long enough to form a new strand of dna. Definitely won't be returning.

Lovely food at reasonable prices. We ordered the chicken & mushroom and steak & ale pies and butchers gammon. All meals were tasty but a chicken or veg based gravy with the chicken pie would have been better than the meat gravy. Staff were friendly. We will be going again.

Good local pub. Popular quiz Tuesday nights. Live entertainment every Saturday. Regular special events. Mondays live music.

Thought £3.20 was a bit pricey for a cup of coffee.

Group of us had a meal in pub recently. Everyone enjoyed their own meals, pleasant service at reasonable prices. What's not to like.

Excellent old style castle like building from the outside, inside however is dated and needs a good refurbish... Beer garden is modern and great for summer months Great homemade food with decent portions

Friendly staff affordable drinks have dined their a couple more times food ok. They have regular evening activities from quiz night open mike to a live artist on a Saturday night would recommend

First time in the Wellington .....what a fabulous night. Friendly staff and chatty...and a lovely atmosphere. I was there with my cousin and her husband, their son was the star attraction. Fabulous singer and played the guitar. Will be back again....in the afternoon for lunch and dessert 👍

Ot as great as it was 10 years ago... but still cozy and quiet.

We took my mum for some lunch, the food was excellent, best pub food I've had for a long time. I had mixed grill cooked superbly, fish was also A1.

Arrived on 21st December for a birthday meal, very limited menu, no carvery, we were very disappointed, yet the grapes further down the road is also a Greene king had full menu and carvery!! This was our first time visiting here, won't be back

Lovely pub, great staff. The score would have been 5🌟but a small mix up with the order had our starters and mains arrive together. However the food was delicious, piping hot and very good value. We will all definitely be going back.

Place was almost empty. That should of been a clue. Chicken was made up of water . Chips tasted of dirty oil' what had cooked fish in it also . And not one member of staff came over to ask how was our food . Everywhere else I have been do this. We just walked out and left the food.
