You will note from my previous review we really liked this place and stayed here every year for the last 10+ years. This year was no different however our experience last month was far from good. The owner Pascal was ‘on a fishing trip’ and left two people in charge who didn’t know how to run a restaurant. My wife is Coeliac and neither the person taking our orders, nor the chef seemed to know what gluten free was. This left us very nervous about ordering anything from the vastly reduced menu. Starters was soup or tomato and mozzarella. For main course we had a choice of fried fish or beef. As the chef didn’t know whether the sauce with the beef was gluten free this left plain fried fish for my wife with little else. Dessert was a slice of cake (full of gluten) or a scoop of ice cream Breakfast the following morning for my wife was a teaspoon of mushrooms, half a fried tomato and a fried egg. We went into Enniskillen for a proper breakfast after leaving. After supporting this business and enjoying our stays for 10+ years and after spending over £200 for this 'gourmet' stay we will not be returning. There are plenty of far better hotels in Enniskillen for a lot less cost and with a guarantee of good gluten free food.

Stayed for four nights on a fishing trip. This is my third visit over the last year. To find such a little gem as this in the middle of Fermanagh is very unusual and a real treat. Pascal is Michelin trained, a very fine host and cooks delicious and creative food. We understood the post-Covid situation about not being able to find sufficient and reliable staff in the local area, but i hope that this is just a phase that will be overcome. The on site accommodation is great. Good sized rooms, many with lake views. The fishing operation is also very good. Marine, the boat man, is super friendly and knows his business. The lake is huge and lovely, even though the fish were hiding for us! We will return.

What struck me most was the tenacity of Chef Pascal Brissaud and his partner, Vanessa, to keep afloat in the hardest of times and without staff. One cannot judge this amazing venue as if times were normal. So yes, it needs work, but it is still magical. The room was immaculate and comfortable and the laugh is home of some six dozens swans. It was fascinating watching the swans. And Chef Pascal served an absolutely delicious three course meal. His culinary skills are outstanding. Vanessa was warm, welcoming, and concerned that her guests were comfortable. I highly recommend a stay and meals at Watermill Lodge and restaurant.

We were a party of 4 who enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Water Mill , Lisnaskea. The food was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection and beautifully presented! We had a very charming, attentive and efficient waitress who, although, at one point during the evening had quite a few tables to take care of , maintained the exceptional service with a smile! The Water Mill offers a fabulous dining experience and a haven of peaceful tranquility in a truly beautiful setting - it is lovely to have a conversation without having to shout …..and is very deserving of both local and visitor support as once again the hospitality industry faces yet more challenges.

My wife and I stayed here at the weekend on there B & B and 3 course evening meal deal. Accommodation was fine but not the lake view room we had booked or been promised. The whole site including the main restaurant is very tired and in need of much TLC, the grounds, buildings and interiors. The restaurant was how we had remembered it from our first visit 7 years ago albeit a lot quieter. It seemed to be managed by a team of 2, the chef and a lady front of house. A very restricted menu, 1 chicken dish, 1 fish and 1 beef, 3 starters and 3 deserts but we couldn't fault the service we received or the food. All dishes were well presented and tasty including the freshly baked French baguette which we enjoyed with our starters and again at breakfast. We would go back but it is disappointing to see how the location and business is clearly struggling. It would be great to see what is a potentially stunning location raised to its former glory and full potential and the restaurant filled with diners. I'm guessing remote location and covid have left the owners in a difficult position. I genuinely hope this business survives and finds a way forward..

Starters some had prawn and lobster, others had the scallops and mussels all were beautifully presented. Our mains we had the slow cooked beef, the steak, the children had linguini and burgers. The potato gratin was also just lovely, french green beans still with a lovely crunch. Our deserts were creme brûlée, chocolate fondant and my husband and I shared a cheese platter. My partner and I have stayed here twice before and absolutely LOVED it. The food was amazing and the surroundings clean and tidy. This time, because we loved it so much previously, we decided to come stay for a couple of nights after getting married in August. We were SO looking forward to it. However, it seems that perhaps Pascal has fallen out of love with this previously wonderful place. Its unkempt and shabby. The veg and herb garden is completely overgrown and no longer used. And clearly sadly the food was pretty poor. To be fair Pascal wasn't here, so we can't directly blame him. But to say it was like a canteen dinner wouldn't be unfair. The prawns in the prawn cocktail were clearly frozen, Iceland type, small with no flavour. And 'Pascals special beef dish' definitely wasn't special. The veg was over cooked and the dauphinoise potatoes were so overcooked, the sauce had curdled! We were so disappointed we decided not to eat in the restaurant on our second night, opting instead for fish and chips from the local chip shop. What's happened Pascal?? Having really loved here, I'm sad to say we won't be back again.

The service was really terrible. Left standing for ages waiting to be shown the table. Brought to the table then waitress walked away. Waited ages to then have our drinks order taken. Asked three separate times for water. Staff walking around not knowing which food was for which table. Staff seemed to lack confidence. Our food was sat on the table then staff walked away. Had to call back and ask for salt and vinegar.Couple in before us still hadn't had their order taken and at this stage we had finished our starters. Felt sorry for them. We were offered desserts. Table beside us wasn't and they had to go over and ask for the dessert menu, then their desserts arrived before ours?! My husband's main arrived 10 minutes before mine. Then a queue to pay and the girl at the till didn't know what we had ordered and we had to go through each of it, including the type of wine we ordered. It wasn't enough to say red. A sham. Don't really blame the individual waiting staff, more a lack of organisation all round. Can't blame it on being busy as staff member acknowledged this is an ongoing problem.

Decided I would go to the Watermill for Sunday lunch. We have had many excellent meals in this restaurant on previous visits. One of my favouritesIt is hard to believe that an establishment can go downhill so fast.Service was of FAULTY TOWERS standard. After some difficulty we got someone to check our reservation and take us to our table.A waitress asked if we wanted drinks. We ordered diluted orange which we never got.35 minutes later we persuaded a waitress to take our order. The restaurant was almost empty so it is hard to understand why the wait.My wife order mussels which were not of quantity or quality normally supplied. I ordered soup which was lukewarm and worst still I almost chocked on a wooden spike. The local health inspector is investigating and hopefully will close the place down. My wife ordered the chicken which looked more like a water hen than chicken: the smallest portion I have ever seen. I order Pascals slow roast rib eye. This was completely burned and dried up. You would not offer it to a dog.We were asked if we wanted desert and we said OK. We were given 2 menus and waited for another 30 minutes for someone to take our order. We finally decided to call it a day and paid our bill and left. The prices are very high for lunch menu even if you got a good meal. For what we got and what we paid I will not make any comment: The great Fermanagh robbery. As a business person it is not difficult to know what is going on:Pascal lost his dining room supervisor / manager [AN EXCELLENT LADY].As business declined due to poor service Pascal made the usual mistakes made by personnel with no business ability. He employed cheap untrained staff [Foreign students]He put up his prices. He reduced the portion size. You soon finish up with no customers and you go out of business.Customers are KING.Go back 12 months and this restaurant was packed, good food and reasonable prices. It was difficult to get a reservation The restaurant was almost empty last Sunday and remember customers were spending hours there due to the lack of service. The staff only need a little bit of training. Mannerly kids that haven't a clue what they are doing. In my opinion Pascal is too arrogant to admit he has screwed up and to sort this mess.Pascal look out for the health inspector: and the revenue will be checking if you are paying your staff minimum wages.Have a good day

Stayed here August 13 2020 for one night. On arrival the location and views were tranquil and stunning, the main building with its thatched roof was very attractive. When we were given our keys and shown to our accommodation which where separate from the main building we where disappointed to find the rooms very tired looking, Could do with a repaint. The wardrobe looked like it was on its last legs and had only 4 hangers ,hardly enough for the 2 of us. The bathroom appeared grubby again could do with a refresh, with it being a wet room [no bath ]while showering the wet room flooded to the door making it difficult to re-enter after your shower until the floor dried. We hoped things would improve looking forward to our evening meal to make up for our initial disappointments. The menu appeared to be impressive but the starters of soup , mussels, prawn cocktail proved to be more disappointment not close to the standard expected. We then waited some 45 minutes for our main courses which only arrived after i had asked the waiting staff if they were on the way. in hindsight had they not arrived it might have been a blessing as they proved to be worse than our first course.By now we all had had enough and asked the waiting staff if it was possible to speak to the person in charge of the restaurant , He informed me there was no immediate person in charge as they where off sick , I asked could I talk to the owner but again was told this was not possible as he was too busy , I again requested the owner come to hear our concerns but this time was told to enter the kitchen where I could speak to the owner. This request was extremely odd that a customer had to enter a kitchen to be seen by the owner and especially with the restrictions on us all due to the corona virus. After a somewhat heated discussion I left the kitchen no further on as the owner appeared to be severely stressed and in complete denial to the complaints i put to him Surely our breakfast would be better , well if you can call one piece of bacon one sausage one egg a half tomato a full irish , where was the potato bread ,soda bread, black pudding etc which is the norm in any hotel in Ireland I have stayed in .When checking out no member of staff enquired if we had enjoyed our stay or wished us well , maybe this was better as it could have been a very unpleasant farewell. This has to be the worst experience I have had for an overnight stay and will avoid it going forward.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We stayed here last week for one night and unfortunately wouldn't be able to recommend it after our experience.Firstly, the location and views are incredible, and the main cottage with thatched roof is beautiful. Check-in was quick. First impressions of the room was that it smelt like someone had spilt a bottle of cheap aftershave. It was so overwhelming and unpleasant. After some investigating, we found the source to be an air-freshener, which we unhooked from the wall and put outside with the windows left open to air the room. The furniture is very worn and in need of replacement. The wardrobe only had four hangers, which for a couple, just isn't enough. Neither bedside lamps worked and only one out of 8+ light switches in the room worked. The bathroom was clean but the water pressure in the shower was disappointing and the tiling around the bath was unfinished. We had a bad sleep because the mattresses (two singles put together) were too firm and pillows too soft, but that is personal preference. After check-in we headed for a drink on the outdoor terrace - a beautiful spot beside a pond with running running and views across Loch Erne. I went to the bar to order drinks and halfway through my order the owner answered the phone without excusing herself. I didn't mind as I wouldn't expect the hotel to turn away business but I ended up standing at the bar for over 15 minutes. I would have expected the owner to ask the caller to hold for 10 seconds to finish taking my order and say she would have it brought out to me. Even when two staff members arrived to start their shift the owner didn't even ask them to take my order, so I just stood around more trying to make eye contact but I was ignored by all three of them. Really disappointing service. Dinner was really disappointing sadly. I was surprised the menu had no provenance since the area is blessed with fabulous local produce and an onsite herb garden. Starters came quick - the soup was really lacking in seasoning but the prawn cocktail was lovely. We then had a very long wait for our mains. Tables who arrived after us were served before us. Our drinks sat empty until we asked if we could get another round. We actually thought our mains had been forgotten about so we asked if they were coming and were told there had been a mix up in the kitchen. Looking around you could see other diners where disappointed too and the table next to us said they were having the same issues. When the mains did come my fish was overcooked and the chefs special '36 hour cooked beef' was not as described. Instead of slow cooked tender beef, we received thin sliced, tough, pan-fried skirt. At this point we were so hungry we just ate it but decided to skip dessert as we were so frustrated and lost our appetite. A far cry from 'fine dining' as described on the website. The floor staff are young and in desperate need of some training. There was no manager supervising (as we asked to see one) so the poor service is clearly due to a lack of training and leadership from the owners. No one asked how our food was, so my dad went and spoke to the chef to express our disappointment but he didn't want to listen or try to remedy the situation, instead he got irate (my dad did as well) and threatened to call the police! He seemed to be more interested in finishing service so he could start drinking at the bar. We hoped breakfast would be better but it was just another disappointment. The plate was so small, probably to try and make what was on the plate look substantial. Every time I moved something a mushroom would fall off my plate. There were no Irish elements like potato bread, soda bread or black pudding. Croissants were not fresh - surprising for a French 'master chef'. Had to eat our cereal with the teaspoon for our tea/coffee. Some might say it's 'laid back', but if that's meant to make you feel relaxed, it's achieving the opposite. Breakfast was chaotic and the waitress looked like a deer in headlights. Not how you want to start your day. All in all we were very disappointed. I would have raised these issues directly with the owner on checkout but she didn't even ask how our stay was, instead she put her head down and pretended to fix the hand-sanitiser station. I hope management listen to this feedback and don't continue to just rely on location and views. If the food and service improve this place has the potential to be amazing.

I do not take pleasure in writing this review as it must be hard to keep a place open in these difficult times.- starters of prawns and mussels = good- steak = v poor. Was not seared and very chewy- Seabass and Salmon = overcooked- creme Brulle = mediocre Service= it seemed it was all waiters first day of service. From start to finish. I have waited on tables for years and I am usually very forgiving. Bread being served during mains, waiting for 20 mins at table to get order taken. Pascal I really hope the food and service side of your business improves as you have a gem of a location.

My Fiance and I went with a few friends last year for a meal the food and service at the meal was great, my fiance and I had decided then to have the Watermill as our wedding reception it ended up a massive mistake,as we hadn't planned a wedding before and seen the watermill had won numerous awards we put all our faith in them we originally wanted to have our reception and have a small gathering then we chatted to Reynald and ended up going for a marquee which I didn't really mind under a year we spoke to 4 different people RE our wedding we first paid our deposit last march then a few months later we spoke to a different person who we were told was now dealing with our wedding then I nearly paid another deposit for the same date which was supposed to be free even though we had been in before and paid deposit for the date and descussed ideas because of language barrier I didn't realize only my fiance pointed out to me that I had already paid the deposit when Reynald brought us up to the card machine after that we thought things were going fine then I got a phone call from Tracey another wedding co ordinator that was now dealing with our wedding stating there wasn't much information about our wedding that's fine I am a activity co-oridanator so used to planning things last minute and it being 4 months away then I find out all the rooms that were promised for guests on several occasions were let out to fishermen that we were told last year weren't going to be there and I didn't mind but unfortunately my guests did and said they would sort out there own arrangements I was so upset that the perfect wedding I was promised was them talking crap as Tracey stated they don't usually do weddings in April unfortunately if this had been mentioned last year we would of booked another venue and the worst insult of all is being called a liar by someone who didn't know anything about my wedding arrangements or anything and I have the email to prove I didn't tell lies and if they were treated the way I was they would be frustrated, they have time for your money but not time for you . They can keep there deposit that they wouldn't give back anyway, the way I have been treated coming up to what's supposed to be the happiest time of your life has ruined my mental health the last few months thankfully the wedding wouldn't have went ahead anyway due to covid so I have plenty of time to learn from my mistakes at the watermill for my new venue next year .

11th August 2020I hate to write this. The restaurant had been highly recommended.6.00 p.m. booking. The restaurant was absolutely full.My first visit and the third by my partner for the meal who said she’d never seen it that full and there was normally a Maitre-d orchestrating the restaurant.First course Goats cheese tart with beetroot three ways.My partner commented that the tart was anaemic looking on top unlike previous visits. The pastry was fine as was the tart.Beetroot three ways. Small diced, no dressing, the merest piping of beetroot puree. Webbs lettuce leaves with a squirt of dressing and three spirals of beetroot.I had the slow cooked Ribeye. A slice with Green peppercorn sauce. Both with really no taste.I’m so sorry to write this.Garnished with a small pile of potato puree topped with a small wooden skewered stick containing a grilled baby tomato and that was it. The tomato had taste but the potatoes were poor.I ordered onion rings which were very hard with no onion discernable, inedible and obviously bought in.My partner had the Sea Bass and accompanying vegetables. Green beans overcooked, carrots soft, broccoli which was OK but all drenched in butter and she was disappointed.Pudding was Crème Brulee and another coconut topped Brulee. They tasted good but no presentation as seen on the photographs. The food lacked seasoning so why no sea salt and fresh pepper on the tables at least. Why did I not complain at the time as I should have done.I cooked professionally for 40 years and believe that Pascal had to resort to prior cooking the vegetables, seriously had no time to send the dishes out properly dressed, had to bus-in extra girls who all seemed to have no prior knowledge of working in a restaurant. There was no one over seeing their work.I hate doing this as its hard work keeping a good reputation. Why was it absolutely impossible to get a print out of our meal, wine and room prices. We returned to the reception after leaving the room next morning and asked for a printed itemised bill of stay and was told it couldn’t be done but then was told we owed for a bottle of wine which we paid for and was thanked for our honesty. But no bill for anything, just the bottle of wine. How is it that there seemed to be absolutely no communication with the people in the evening and the people next morning.Breakfast was good and Pascal is a lovely friendly man but where is the leadership to keep the business going to the standard I was told and raved about.

Our family visited this restaurant over the weekend. What a setting overlooking the lake, it’s simply stunning. I think it’s both a lovely summer setting but equally in the winter with the open fire as you walk in. With Covid they are only doing one set menu which is fine. Hubby had the goats cheese and I had the mussels to start. We always get pascals famous beef and it’s hard not to get it. It has a lovely charred outside but incredibly tender on the inside. It’s slower cooked for 32 hours. The others in the group got prawn cocktail & soup. We got onions rings and dauphinois to go with the mains, as portions are French and quite small which we didn’t mind. They need to work on the service end of things, drinks had to be asked for after ordering, we were also served by several different waiters. I think it would be better if the same person looked after your table. Food took a while to come out and nobody asked how was the food even though it was great. it was extremely difficult to get any of the servers attention. Asking for the bill took a while also. If they got the service fixed it would get 5 stars. Will be back for the food!!

My wife and I visited the Watermill Lodge earlier this week for a one night stopover. It was our first visit and we were absolutely delighted that we had discovered this little gem. Our room was spacious and very clean. Opening the doors in the morning to the breathtaking views out onto the Lough was a real highlight. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast the food was fresh and beautifully presented. We were so impressed by the quality of service we received from all the staff - they couldn’t have done enough for us. Tracy was a delightful host and went out of her way to meet our needs. We will definitely be back!

Stayed here with friends for a birthday occasion having booked and paid for 2 rooms in advance for bed and breakfast. When we checked in bedrooms were freezing so went for drink in bar. To be fair meal was nice apart from goats cheese starter but we were cold in the restaurant. A real shame. Breakfast next morning was a disaster. No staff except 1 person doing cooking and waiting and totally unprepared for guests. Food was not nice and tea was cold. Nobody to speak to about this. No manager on duty.... so disappointed as had been here twice before and it was lovely. We left some items behind us in our room and I sent an email explaining why we were so disappointed and asking for someone to contact me in relation to that and to arrange to pick up our items. NO RESPONSE TO MY EMAIL. My husband rang Pascal a week later and asked him to read my email and respond. No response. My husband rang him again and he said he didn't believe our complaints and hung up!!! It takes a lot for me to write a bad review but this was shocking customer service.!!!

Can be difficult to find particularily as we travelled to it when there was road diversions. When we finally arrived it is just like one of those thatched cottages from a chocolate box. Nestled on the edge of upper Lough Erne with lovely planting in the garden. We were given a seat beside the window with a lovely view out to the patio area and garden and overlooking the lough. Staff were attentive and we both enjoyed our meals. We had soup and a goats cheese tartlet and both were delicious and ample portions, Then came the mains my husband eating a chicken dish in a rich sauce which was maybe a little too much sauce . I had duck cooked two ways and it was just right. Got a portion of veg and potatoes but could have done with veg alone as we couldnt attempt dessert. Pricey but worth the visit and good food. Just be aware it is down a wee narrow road with grass growing up the middle. You might think this will lead to nowhere be a great restaurant. Place also for boats to moor and also has holiday lodges. Worth a visit

Had dinner in watermill tonight, very disappointing. Restaurant was extremely cold, had to ask waiter to put on heat, it warmed up eventually although I kept my jacket on throughout the meal. Had smoked salmon starter, which tasted like smoked salmon with a butter filling, not great. Main course was nice. Toilet roll holder hanging off wall and toilet roll up on a high shelf, toilet doors look like they could do with a good clean. Was being overcharged when I went to pay, until I pointed it out. This was definitely not the experience I was expecting. I felt it really

I have dined here several times and never been disappointed in terms of everything that makes a first class dining experience. I have also bought dining vouchers for discerning friends such is my confidence in certainty of consistent top standards in all areas of dining out. The not too long drive to it from the rural town of Lisnaskea to spacious parking is well worth it: then to languish over a pre-prandial pint or cocktail while taking in the stunning views from the open air terrace. Pascal Brissaud - the owner and top Chef - is amenable and one feels that he takes a personal interest in users of this long established business. As a diner who has dined extensively in France over the years I can confidently recommend this restaurant for its extensive UK and continental menu.
