Water Margin in East Riding of Yorkshire

We had a takeaway for my partners birthday, ordered over phone, picked up on time, nice and hot and very tastey.

In the past we'd had some good meals here and we were after a takeaway. We were a bit concerned with the very average ratings on Tripadvisor, but decided to give it a go.The food was a few minutes late and so we had to wait - this is a bit irritating in these times of trying to socially distance.The food was average. Not bad, but not good either. The prices were acceptable.Return visit? Well maybe, but not in a rush.

Our first takeaway since before Covid. Not only have portions become smaller the prices have increased substantially. No longer good value. Avoid!

Just ordered our first takeaway during lockdown and what a disappointment. Opted for sweet and sour chicken, which was passable, but mainly batter on the chicken. The house special curry, however, was atrocious. 3 prawns, perhaps 3 tiny pieces of chicken/beef, then the pork, which was just fat!! There was quite literally no pork in it, just 3 pieces of fat! The curry might as well have been advertised as onion and pea curry in a watery sauce!! Overpriced rubbish and won’t be going back.

Mixed seafood stater was very poor, soggy little pieces of lukewarm food hiding in the corner of the box. I would like to enlighten on what it was but unfortunately, it was difficult to tell. The duck and pancakes did not tempt the taste buds either the duck was so well cooked is was in tiny charred pieces and dry even the limp cucumber couldn't take away the taste and the hot fish had 2 prawns in the whole dish.

Been here for a meal and have got takeaway before, a lot of average reviews here but we haven’t had a bad meal since moving to Driffield .

we have just moved to driffield, due to our place being upside down, boxes everywhere, we decided to have a Chinese meal, BOY did we pick the wrong one, over priced small portioned rubbish, they should go to Scarborough, take a leaf out the I Kitchens cooking, we had ordered , special fried rice, sweet and sour Cantonese style, prawn curry, special fried rice, HUH!!! , looked like fried rice, bur forgot to put the special bits in there, this place serves overpriced rubbish, there portions are far too small, don't expect any meat in your dishes, please let there be another Chinese in Driffield, or near here, as we wont be using this place again, if this place wants to borrow my book on Chinese cooking, let me know, please folks, don't disappoint your friends, give this place a wide berth,

Have used many times before, got fried rice Xmas eve, slept fine, next morning, shivers, diarrhoea numerous times, sick once, felt cold all day in bed Xmas day. Will not be using again. I did not have any alcohol, it was just for my tea.

You can't fault this resteraunt takeaway. The food is amazing and what a choice you have. Beautiful eat-in fantastic atmosphere first class service friendly staff and management. Free poppy Dom’s while waiting for your takeaways. Highly recommend this place. Also free delivery for takeaways up to ten miles

Oh dear, the food was tasty but it certainly didn't belong to us. How about taking names from takeaway customers and matching them up with their food? We enjoyed our meal but no sesame toast, no prawns. The crispy duck was very nice but not ours. One dish looked good but no idea what it was, vegetables I think. This is not the first time things have gone awry.

We ordered from here on Friday evening. It was delivered to us in Langtoft less than half and hour after placing the order. The food was the best Chinese takeaway we’ve ever had. We got the mixed starter, special chow mien, chicken curry and sweet and sour king prawn. All the dishes were really nice. We have ordered from here before and it was ok but this time, so nice. I would highly recommend and will definitely order again.

We used to come here regularly for lunch with family and friends, so in a bit of a nostalgic moment, my son and I came here for lunch. I was surprised to see no one else here (and even by the time we finished, we were still the only ones). We ordered the mixed starter, honey roast pork, honey roast duck (extra), egg fried rice and chips, followed by banana fritter. While the decor does need lightening and brightening up, the food was good. Staff were friendly and polite. Will come back again.

Great food, with quick service , but staff were over attentive and kept asking if we had finished when clearly we hadn’t, It became annoying,

The first thing that puts me off this restaurant is the outside. The doorway outside is littered with cigarette ends and it looks filthy. Surely it’s not a big deal to keep your immediate outside entrance clean and swept up?

Tasty food, authentic Chinese beer and excellent service. We really enjoyed our visit. We had a selection of meals with half a duck starter. Food was both hot and tasty. Recommended.

Another great takeaway from Water Margin. There is so much choice for both myself a vegetarian and my boyfriend who loves chicken! The food we order varies from chicken satay skewers to stir fryed veg and it always tastes great. Staff are very friendly and the food is ready in good time.

For the second week in a row our order was incomplete. The food isnt even that great but it saves travelling out of town. Driffield is desperate for a good quality chinese restaurant

A word of warning, Saturday nights can be manic. We queued for nearly an hour for a takeaway and several potential customers left in despair after the restaurant became overwhelmed with hungry people. Could there not be a system in place that allows the staff either to alert people how long their order will take or restrict the number of folk waiting at any given time. Eventually our meal appeared but one item was missing. The meal was as tasty as ever but by that time we would have eaten anything.

Told 20-30 mins been waiting nearly an hour, half an hour in the restaurant itself. Not good enough, shouldn’t say a time if you can’t do it.

Special fried rice , £8.50 , a teaspoon of meat and 5 small prawns.

Popped in for lunch, nobody else there. Young lady serving had the right attitude, friendly and attentive when needed. We all shared a mixed started which was ok, not the best I have had and I thought overpriced, mains were better, special chow mein, sweet and sour and squid - all were very nice. Bill with 4 drinks was reasonable, would go again.

We have a takeaway quite often and these are always okay. But this time the food was really good; I've no explanation for the improvement - but it was !!

I am giving a mediocre review because one meal was extremely disappointing & the other two were considered, ‘better than last time’!

Went for a night out with friends got the banquet and the portion size where very small and not much meat in then what food there was actually was quite tasty but dont intend to return any time soon.

Service was a little over attentive and focused on "big sell". Food was OK not fantastic Overcharged (but only by £2.50 - so chose not to argue the case). House Wine quality (rose) was not good. Would not return

Visited with friends. Warm welcome, with drinks and menus provided promptly. The food is maybe, typical with the usual variety but the spring rolls are enormous and taste great. Portions are also superb, and nice and hot.

There were eight of us and we decided to sample one of their Banquets. Great decision! A glass turntable in the middle allowed us all to access some really well presented, delicious dishes, some of which were new to our guests. The decor is a little shabby chic but your attention was really on the food. Our service was attentive and yet unobtrusive. We have regular take aways from here and the standard never varies. Excellent.

The food was varied and tasty,the service was efficient and polite, in fact everyone involved were friendly. unfortunately we must have hit on a quiet night, as, apart from our party of four,there were only two other diners all evening, resulting in no atmosphere at all.The restaurant itself was extremely dimly lit for some reason,apart from the clean towel area,wh[ch was very brightly illuminated, Why??.Might I suggest a screen to cover that area,it wasn't very nice to look at all night. I'm sure the last time I visited this establishment,it was a lot brighter. Overall a nice meal, but dissapointed

Visited sat night, 2 of us ordered 3 mains, and noodles, to share, it was very tasty, and reasonably priced, nice Chinese beer on draft. Will definitely visit again.

As ever, a delicious meal but we began to think it was not ours. The restaurant was very busy and no doubt the kitchen was too. My duck had morphed into beef and vegetables with a handful of nuts added, my partner's beef dish had turned into a curry, but the most amazing transformation was the chips which had become a large bag of very delicious spring rolls. Oops! too late to take it back as we had already started our mains. Very tasty though, even if not as expected.

We have eaten at this establishment since its birth as Harry Kar many years ago, and one can always rely on good service and food, even going beyond the call of duty by supplying tailor made dishes on request at times. It is good to see this cheerfully staffed restaurant still going strong as others have tried and failed too often in this pleasant and hungry town. A take away this time, but very tasty.

Myself and my boyfriend visited with another couple early evening for a meal in the restaurant. The portion sizes were very good I was almost full just from my starter! Very accommodating staff and menu as I am a vegetarian my friend allergic to garlic and not a fan of onions everything came just as ordered and in good time. Excellent service recieved from our waiter Matt, very friendly and attentive waiter. Would highly recommend it and we will deffinatly be back soon!

Very well cooked food from an extensive menu. We enjoy both visits in and from takeaways which arrive hot.

I had the pleasure of visiting Water Margin for the first time last week and had a lovely evening. Everyone who worked there was friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcome. There was a good choice on the menu, and there's something for everyone - those who enjoy trying knew dishes as well as more traditional Anglo-Chinese meals. Some of the set meals for two are particularly good as you get a varied selection of dishes to share with a friend, which is a nice way of exploring different tastes and flavours. I visit Driffield fairly regularly and am pleased to have found this restaurant - looking forward to going back!

We booked for early Friday evening and were rather surprised not to find the restaurant bursting at the seams. A large family party of all ages we had a very pleasant and varied menu to tackle which was served promptly by friendly staff. The lively youngsters in our company thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We have been frequenting this reliable restaurant since its inception and it is so nice to be greeted by name. The food was really good as usual.

Grew up here and remember previous incarnations. Seen some mixed reviews but not much to fault from our visit. Good quality ingredients, excellent value. Excellent wine. Service was a bit chaotic and not sure how it would cope with being full. Sort that and the lighting (it’s very dim) and it might even be a 5. Kids now unimpressed with our local Chinese.

It is sometime since our last meal from here and the food and menu is greatly improved, now incorporating Malaysian and Thai dishes. We had a takeaway on this occasion but hope to be back soon for a proper experience of Chinese hospitality.

Not been here for a while on an evening and it is still as good as ever! With 6 of us we ordered one of the banquets: mixed starter, duck with pancakes, then a mix of main dishes with a swap if 1 of them so we had 2 halibut dishes - always everyone's favourite! Freshly cooked, piping hot, well presented - worth coming back time and again! Staff were excellent and helpful. Won't be as long between visits!

We go in here regularly and have never been disappointed by either eating in or takeaway. Lots of choice - meat, fish, vegetarian, you name it. The food is beautifully cooked and delicately flavoured. Also, you aren't overpowered by it as they don't cram your...

Mi marido y yo vinimos aquí como parte de su celebración de cumpleaños para un almuerzo tranquilo. No habíamos reservado, pero esto no fue un problema. Optamos por la entrante, miel de cerdo y carne crujiente con arroz frito de huevo buñuelos de banana y seguido por el café. Todo se sirve fresco y caliente. El servicio era excelente, como siempre, y en menos de £10 por cabeza, buena relación calidad-precio. La decoración podría ser actualizado, pero esto no afectará a la calidad de la comida.

Hemos comido en este establecimiento durante muchos años, empezando con la gran Harry Kar, un maravilloso animador y empresario que incluso una vez tardó más de nuestra barbacoa casa y trataron a nuestros huéspedes a un banquete en nuestro jardín.

Went to the water margin for an evening meal and was confronted with the usual "have you booked" enquiry and staring around on a large empty restaurant. Was led to a cosy alcove which was so dark I used the light on my watch to find my seat. Food came quickly as a steady stream of customers arrived, not to eat but to collect takeaway orders. A constant steam of staff delivering food from the kitchen to the waiting hoards at the front of house. Our meal was small, standard fare delivered quickly by uninterested staff. Poor value for money, on second thoughts we should have had a takeaway.

Why oh why does a Chinese restaurant try and cook and serve Thai food?We have just returned from the Water Margin and feel it only right to give a review based on our experience this evening.We are lucky enough to have been outside of the town of Driffield where we have tasted Pad Thai and Thai Green Curry.We arrived this evening and whilst seated in the bar area we placed an order for an all Thai experience of Thai Green Curry and Pad Thai. We have tasted both dishes before in other establishments outside of Driffield and the wonderful country of Thailand as well.Our order arrived and it came as 2 dishes as we ordered, however it was not what we expected. The Pad Thai was some kind of mush with chicken and the green curry resembled something like porridge. I politely asked what the dishes were to be told by the waitress that it was the food we ordered.Chicken Pad Thai is served with noodles and there was not a noodle in sight and the green curry was bland and pale white.Really Pad Thai with no noodles? A simple Google search will show you that the main ingredient is noodles, yet they serve it with NO NOODLES!We tried to eat our meal but it really was possibly the worst impersonation of Thai food we have ever eaten.We asked to speak to the manager and she said ' yes we hear it all the time the Thai food is not what people expect'..........WHAT?If you hear it all the time why don't you tell the Chef and the owner so at they will make Thai food as it is supposed to be cooked? Tell the chef to go to a real Thai Restarant to see how it is supposed to be.Seriously if you are reading this and like Thai food:DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE!I do not like to,leave negative reviews on here, however you really need to know how bad this place is.On a positive note the prawn crackers were nice!

Orders a couple of vegetarian dishes, the monks vegetables were really good but satay was shocking, really greasy and Luke warm. Chips and rice as a side, chips appeared to have been recooked making them inedible. I had eaten in the restaurant a couple of years ago and recall it being really good, would not use this eatery again after my most recent experience.

We ordered a takeaway from here tonight, the ribs were fantastic but the main courses were bone dry, yes the meat had a sauce stuck to it but it was hardly eatable because there was no sauce to go on the rice, remind me to order an extra sauce next time so it's not like the Sahara desert! ✌️

Arriving we ordered our food that was fine, Hot Malysion Curry to me means hot it was a hot dish, it came out as chicken which was more like sweet & sour sauce, when asked if it could be made hotter the owner said some like it hotter than others then why not ask when taking the order ?? we order a starter of chicken in Lettuce leaves, The dish came no sign of Lettuce Leaves I had to ask for them, my partner ordered another drink we had to yet again ask for it, in all of that Customer Service just was not there very disappointed.

We went to Water Margin when visiting with our in-laws and stopping across the road at the 41 hotel.Excellent meal, with very attentive and friendly staff, very reasonably priced as well.

Visited here for a family meal with my children aged 10 and 9. Their first Chinese meal out. My daughter is severely allergic to egg, the staff could not have been more caring or helpful towards us. We chose to have the banquet set meal for five of us (6 of us visited) and they very kindly let us swap anything with egg in with a chosen alternative. The food was delicious, the staff could not do enough for us. Felt very looked after. A great night out and will certainly visit here again. Would Totally recommend. My husband and I came here with friends to round off my birthday after a day at York races. We placed our order for one of the banquet menus and added a couple of extra dishes. Within 10 minutes were seated and the first course served shortly after. This included chicken satay, ribs, seaweed, pot stickers and prawn toast. All hot and delicious. This was followed shortly after with shredded ducking pancakes...always lovely. Then the mains: sweet and sour chicken, halibut, sizzling beef, garlic prawns, ginger chicken to name a selection, served with fried rice. All were excellent and we finished all the dishes with relish. The quality when we go is always good and we have never had a bad meal here, especially as we have visited here for over 20 years.

I chose to dine here as opposed to dining at the hotel The Bell I was staying at accross the road.I had not made a reservation gor myself and guest but the staff were happy to check for an available table in the restruant.I will keep review simple.Although I believe it was a Chinese restaurant the dishes available were from various Asian countries which made the menu a little more exciting.The staff...charming, courteous and welcoming Service...excellentThe food delicious and fillingThe proprietor (I think her name was Air) from Thailand was lovely to chat to and gave her personal attention to us even though the restruant was full and busy.Excellent all round meal unrushed great atmosphere with many large party table bookings.I would most certainly dine here again if I was ever visiting the area again but next time I would make sure I would make a resevation.5 stars *****

Everytime i come here i always enjoy it! The staff are incredibly nice and they are always up for having a laugh. The food here is always up to my standards and the Chicken Chow Mein is the best Chow Mein i have ever tried as it is made by chinese people who are from china and have lived a good life there so they obviously know what its like! Water Margin is a great place to have authentic chinese food. I will definitely be coming here more. One last thing, the Chinese new year parties are the best. All my family enjoys them and we are always looking forward to coming. Thank you!

Been going to this Chinese restaurant all my life. It's always kept the same great quality and customer service as it was when I first started going. You get what you pay for, the food is amazing. I love the decor of the place, it is really authentic.

We took five adults and four children to the Water Margin for a family get together meal. The staff were attentive and accomodating. The various meals were very good and nothing was left over. The round table with its lazy Susan made the meal fun for the children and great for across table conversations. The total bill for food and drinks was acceptable. So I rate it highly as a place were you can take the family for something a bit different.

Me and my family just came in for a takeaway. Very fast service, I must admit. When we got home and served it all up, I was very delighted with the meal. We only came in because we were feeling peckish!It's amazing!

My friend & I did our usual once a month Sunday Lunch Special at the Water Margin & I felt that I just had to do another review to say how good it was & how much we both enjoyed it the food was absolutely lovely.The staff are friendly & very helpful.I would have no problem recommending their Sunday Lunch 3 course + coffee for £9-50 to anyone & we both look forward to visiting there again next month.

I rang up for our first meal from Waterloo Margin I asked the a few questions about how the food was because my husband is a fussy eater and the lady who answered the phone was very helpful then I ordered our food to be delivered she said it would be 40 minutes to any hour but it was about 35 minutes the food was lovely we both enjoyed it and said we will have another meal from here again.

First time here and we went with a group of fourteen. They put 2 tables together. Each table had the circular swing round bit in the middle which was nice. We were brought a few prawn crackers while we waited for all to turn up. When we sat they put down a large plate of starters which included prawn toast, spring rolls, spare ribs and a few other bits. What I would expect. Then there was the crispy duck. This was followed by loads of different stuff, sweet and sour, ginger chicken and prawns, beef and noodles etc. All the usual stuff and then coffee. This was in the afternoon and there was loads of food left. The restaurant did seem clean and had plenty of staff on.

Ordered a meal to be delivered on Saturday evening . . . ordered at 7.10 pm, at 8.30 phoned to see where our order was and was told it would be another 30 - 40 minutes before delivery, they said if I went to collect it the food would be ready in 15 minutes - went to collect and still had to wait ... don't know what the problem was but the restaurant looked quiet, there was no-one else waiting for a take out . . . finally got our food at 9.00 pm. i have to say the food was delicious but this is really far too long to wait for a takeaway delivery on a quiet Saturday evening.

My husband and I came here with friends one Saturday evening for a get together. On arrival we were told that there would be a small delay. This was okay as it gave us a chance to catch up. When shown to our table there was smithereens and again in between other courses.when they tried to bring out our main course before our entrees we had to say something. It was busy both in the restaurant and the takeaway service and this was not typical of the service offered on other visits. The food was excellent as always. We had a banquet with a mixed starter, duck in pancakes and a mixture of mains including halibut, sweet and sour chicken, sizzling beef, garlic and ginger prawns. All delicious , well presented and beautifully cooked. Will not put us off determination.

Went to Water Margin for my husbands 50th birthday and had a delicious meal. John, the owner is always very welcoming and gave us a round of drinks as a birthday treat. Our food included sweet and sour chicken, sweet and sour veg, chicken in cashew sauce and duck pancakes. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Highly recommended. Staff are attentive and friendly, and service was quick for a Saturday evening.

Order regular takeaways which I collect. Everything always consistent with polite and efficient service. Cannot fault in anyway

We eat here with friends about once every 4 - 6 weeks. Consistently good fare and service. However, would advise wearing a warm sweater as the restaurant is on the chilly side.

First let me say, I love this Chinese restaurant . We have been many times on New Year's Eve but haven't been for the last two years so decided to book in plenty of time. Well we were packed in like sardines, not too much of a problem to start with. 7-30 for 8 pm. It was 8-50 when we got the starter, a very small plate to share between four people and the entertainment began. Very loud. This continued through the whole meal. Next course was crispy duck which was anything but crispy and that came out at 9-30. We waited a long time after that for the main courses. First one dish arrived , then 10 minutes later another dish arrived. We asked for the rice but it didn't appear. Then 2 more dishes came. Finally the smallest dish of rice I've ever seen for 4 of us. The main courses were also on small dishes. I didn't know you could get a main course on a dish that size.The food was gone in seconds.As we waited for more dishes to arrive , the staff started to clear the tables. I could not believe it. I could see other people complaining so we asked for more food. We then waited for what ever pudding and tea and coffee. Well I'm still waiting. Nothing. Nobody got anything as far as we could see. Meanwhile the music got louder. We were never given a menu when we booked , as we like most things and usually there is too much food. When the meal finished , there were people dancing on chairs and tables, enjoying themselves, but totally drunk, and falling on the tables. Can't fault the atmosphere, lots of dancing and laughter going on but for us it was a let down. We paid a lot of money for this and yes, John did bring more food out but we shouldn't have to ask. Sorry John not enough staff not enough food and not enough chefs. Will still use the restaurant at other times as the food is delicious.

My friends and I always have our Christmas night out at The Water Margin but this year it just seemed to have lost its sparkle. The crispy duck course was cold and the main courses were also below parr. Due to us having enjoyed our meals in the past, I'm not ready to throw in the towel yet, but the evening was a disappointment.

Grumpy waitress. Roast chicken piece was reheated not freshly cooked. Stairs outside ladies loo not lit and no banister. Weren't given the same menu as advertised online. Won't be going again.

Love going to the Water Margin. Great food, nice atmosphere, and very reasonable price. Suitable for all - couples, families, or groups.

It's Sunday morning and after a dreary week my good lady and I decide to enjoy an Autumnal drive and lunch in Driffield . Set off as the misty fog lifted in Leeds expecting a bright day. How wrong we were in so many ways. The fog came back down and it was not until Wetwang did we have glorious sunshine. Arrived in Driffield and we thought we had boobed. The Water Margin seemed to be in darkness at just gone 12.30. Ever optimistic we parked and actually found that this was the " style " . The entrance was not at all welcoming but a pleasant Chinese girl asked if we were two and wanted lunch. The interior was so dim we had to feel for a seat in the reception area. Asked if we required drinks and handed a Sunday specials menu. We ordered China tea and placed our order. Off I went to the loo, not signposted , but assumed and it was in the same place up stairs. Darkness though was the theme of the day. No light in the loo. On returning downstairs my wife was seated in one of the pleasant booths and our China tea arrives efficiently pored my waitress. She may have smiled , but too dark to see. Our mixed platter starter arrived. Tasty prawn toast, vegetable roll, quite good chicken satay on skewers and spare ribs. This was followed by a more than satisfactory sweet and sour chicken and a chicken satay both with fried rice. We finished with banana fritters and ice cream. Staff were attentive , that's the bits of them we could see and excellent value at just under £20 for the two of us. Yes we enjoyed the meal . Yes the background music was o.k. , probably the same loop from twenty years ago. What was missing was that brightness , that sparkle that all restaurants need. Please ,please, dear owners stand back and IMAGINE . This could be the focal point of Driffield ? This place should be heaving . You should go out and buy some lighting. You should let your staff see who the customer is and be part of the experience. Dear people of Driffield do talk to the owners and turn a dull uninspiring restaurant in to a gem to be proud of.

I visited here twice whilst I was in Driffield, on both visits the food and service was very good. My son really loved the Duck and I enjoyed the Sweet and Sour PorkWill visit next time I am in Driffield

I've been meaning to do this review for sometime now.My friend & I meet up for Sunday lunch once a month & we have been going to the Water Margin for quite a while now & I have to say it really is good & excellent value for money.Between 12-2pm they do a 3 course meal plus coffee for £9-50,with a varied selection to choose from we usually opt for Chinese & we both agree it's definitely worth the money & we are both looking forward to our next visit.

We visit here regularly. We really love the crispy chilli beef, never disappoints. Staff are really friendly, food is great.

Got a takeaway, Friday night restaurant was quiet, only two of us ordered two starters and two mains, rice and noodles got home with takeaway to find they had missed one of our starters, we had been charged for it. Although we enjoyed the food we did get this is really poor quality and really unacceptable we will not be visiting again.

Unlike many entries in this section, the Water Margin really is in Driffield. Located in the main street, there is no car park in the immediate vicinity. For us, this is not a problem since we use the Water Margin for a relaxing weekday lunch while on shopping trips. At this time, the restaurant is often quite quiet but, in our experience, this does not detract from the quality of the food or service.On our latest visit, we had some time to kill and so we went for the "full Monte" of three courses. 1. Spring rolls (in spite of there being more exotic options we just like them!) 2, Aromatic crispy duck with the usual trimmings (Quarter very adequate for two to share and really tasty). 3, (a) King prawns with ginger and spring onions and (b) Sizzling fillet steak in a black bean and green pepper sauce. All washed down with a refreshing Reisling.Food excellent and service unobtrusively efficient.

Whenever I am back in Driffield we always make a date for this restaurant. Food is always nice and hot. Never any rush for you to eat and get out. Clean and tidy restaurant. Staff always friendly and accommodating.

We have been customers of this restaurant for the last 10 years but we will not be going again , our last 2 visits have been a waste of money. during our most recent visit the room was so dark that we could hardly see what we were eating and the food was at best mediocre.

Always very good food and excellent service, regular visitor! We have visited as a couple and as a family and always have a warm welcome, food is always very good plentiful and warm.

Eaten in before and takeaway many times. Great food. Usually get the set meal for two. One time they were a little small portions on the one of the starters but normally they are excellent.

Traditional Chinese Restaurant, conveniently located right at the heart of the town, easy to find. However, no parking on site although there are public car parks and street parking opportunities nearby. Visited the Water Margin to celebrate a special family occasion. Booked in advance. Greeted on arrival and treated very nicely throughout the whole evening. To be fair it wasn't particularly busy, so the waiting staff had time to do everything well and make sure we were looked after. Had a lovely meal and a very nice night out. The lighting is somewhat subdued in the main part of the restaurant. The décor could do with a little updating here and there.

Dont know why i gave this place a second try for takeaway after the first abomination that i made them come and collect back off me. Oh yes, i know why, because we love chinese food and thought that a year on we wouldnt be so unlucky........how wrong.Starters came with no side salad or sauces like you would get in restaurant, mains were dry and over cooked. What does it take to send sauces and sides?? My own fault, shouldnt have gone back, but can guarantee I will starve than use this place ever again.

Although on the main square, this is a very quiet restaurant. We were a little concerned, but neddn't have worried , the food was very good. service excellent

Went for tea with the wife, were quickly served drinks and allowed time to look at the menu. Orders taken once ready and we were shown to our table which was nice and private so we could chat away between ourselves. Food was prompt and very good as was service with the staff being very helpful but not hassling us.

Always nice to come here for lunch. And under £10 a head for 3 courses, a bargain. We had booked but previously have been able to get seated without. Greeted and seated, we were given time to reviews the menu while enjoying a drink. I enjoy the mixed starter then the crispy chilli beef, while others in my party enjoyed the same starter but ordered different mains including chow mein, honey pork, curry and sweet and sour chicken. All rounded off by banana fritters and tea and coffee. Well worth a visit even though the full menu is not available, it satisfies most palates and gives an idea of the quality of the food.

went for a meal at 7.30, had been chatting for about half an hour, then realised we haven't even been welcomed or offerd a drink or menus. Another half an hour went buy then we got gave menus, we got left for about 20 minutes before we got asked what we wanted, then taken to the table. It was 9.00pm by the time our meal arrived and we still haven't been offerd any drinks, we had to ask for drinks. I had to cancel my meal as j had Work at 7am in the morning. I think it was disgusting service.. Not just that I had to leave but this would not be a problem if the service was a lot quicker. Would not reccomend!!!

We love coming here for crispy chilli beef,always lovely. The only negative was the waitress was full of cold, certainly didn't want her near my food!

It's easy to be disappointed by Chinese food but at the Water Margin, we have yet to have a bad experience either in the restaurant or as a take away. The peppered beef steak dishes are delicious - as long as your not a vegetarian ;-)

Having being a bit hasty about ordering takeaways I hadn't tried before I went with a friends recommendation. Really glad I listened to her, the food was amazing. What we wanted we couldn't see on the menu so the staff wrote down what we wanted and nothing was too much for them to do. Ready in 10 minutes and it was lovely! Will definitely be returning!

We are regular customers of the water margin and so dont often think to write review which is wrong as we are possibly in a great place to judge - the food is aways well cooked and well presented there is always lots of it,. it's tasty and its always piping hot ( which I like!!!!) The staff are friendly and look after you well Mid week is quiet but then that suits us - probably much better than it suits the very nice owners!! Having read ano review ....Mixed starter always come on a large plate , thats why they are called mixed starters !!! but if you ask for anything to be served seperate or no shellfish or without MSG etc etc they will always oblige We like it!

Always have a good meal, plenty of free prawn crackers, looked after so well by the staff. Starters come on one large plate, plenty to share.There are normally four of us and always too much food.We go every Newyears (English). Fantastic evening, plenty of dancing and entertainment.Well done Water Margin in Driffield.

Having eaten here regularly since moving to Driffield, we were extremely disappointed at our meal tonight. In the past the food has always been good as has the service. Tonight we ordered various starters which previously have all come served separately. Tonight they came thrown together on one large plate which given that I have a meat allergy, hence I ordered a vegetarian starter was quite serious. A large party arrived and staff seemed too busy to acknowledge how cold we were and that we had empty glasses. After 15 minutes of patiently waiting for drinks we had to leave our table and go to the bar to order. These drinks were then served to the wrong table so had to be reordered! For most of our meal we had to endure the noise of screaming kids who were part of the large party I mentioned earlier. Given that the restaurant was more than half empty, why sit a married couple next to screaming children? Standard of food was fine but whole experience and lack of service tonight was absolutely dreadful. We did mention our concerns as we paid but nobody was interested and the waiter just shrugged his shoulders! Despite having had positive experiences in this place, after our appalling experience tonight, unfortunately we could not recommended!

The food here is always very tasty - have been a few times, and the value for money is not too bad either.However... every time I have been the place has been nearly deserted, so don't expect a bustling atmosphere.
