Absolutely brilliant food. Went in at lunch time had small cod meal. Got home ( chesterfield) still hot enough to eat.. Best fish and chips from miles around.

Not happy with item missing. When you ask for gravy, and pay for gravy, you expect gravy being in the bag with everything else. Shouldn't be that difficult when you're the only customer in the shop, to put a simple order of Pie Chips Peas and Gravy together. Other than the missing item, everything else ok. Will be checking in future, no matter how many customers have to wait, a bit of concentration please, next time.

Would never normally leave a food review without actually tasting the food but, the staff here are so obnoxious & rude. First time here, walked in, not much room with the way it's laid out, signs saying if you're a walk in cash only, if you've ordered then it's card only!! One of the women shouted at the guy in front of me to ' move so people can get in" no please, no thank you. We moved to the side to look at the menu, same woman & another one said to us " can you move if you're a walk in " so we did- we left, not one smile between the lot of them, just barking orders at customers as soon as they walk in. We spent our money elsewhere, where we were treated as customers & not cattle

Went in ordered my stuff, i was extremely rushed so forgot to order everything i wanted, was practically shouted at by a staff member, looked as none of them couldn’t work in team, they forgot to tell me my order was ready and just put on side, i understand they might be busy, but at that time i was the only customer in the shop. The chips tasted as made few hours ago, just that dry old warmed chip taste, but the fish was ok. I have never been treated like that and it actually made me cry once i got home.

The shop closes at 1:30pm. We arrived at 1:20pm, hungry an anticipating a good fish, as usual. There were three staff visible, but they refused to cook a fish and offered a leftover sausage! 10 mins is plenty of time to fry a fish. If the staff want to leave at 1:30 they need to close and clean down earlier. So change the advertised hours of service, don't dissapoint customers. We have visited the shop many times over the years but will not be returning due to the appalling customer service.

Not used this shop for a long time and I won't be using them again. Under cooked chips and soggy batter as you unwrap the fish the soggy batter come off with the paper.

Good traditional English fish and chip shop, The cod is fabulous!

Went in on a Friday around 6pm - granted that’s probably a busy time - but it was chaos behind the counter. Lots of people, milling but getting in each others way - they forgot the order of the lady next to me with small children. Thankfully my small children were in the car as despite making my order they just put it on the side and forgot to give it to me. The chaos was almost forgivable but the food itself was a disaster - the fish was dry and hard to the point of being inedible - tasted as though it had been re-cooked. Chips under done and also tasted reheated. I’ve ordered here a few times over the past years but this was the worst. From the other reviews it looks a mixed bag which suggests 1) they need to review their processes and train their staff so they can manage at busy periods 2) they need consistency in the food they serve so it is all to the same quality - quality checks and training of cooking staff would help 3) probably the most important, they need to put clear / better rules in place for how the food is handled eg storage, reheating, how long it can stand for etc so that what they serve is edible. I did appreciate the online ordering while I didn’t use it - looks like a good idea - just wasn’t clear how that was prioritised along with people who were walk ins as the queue grew and the names of people not present kept being called.

Fish was dry and batter was soggy, think it was either warmed up or been kept hot from lunchtime. Chips not much better, on a plus note the peas were ok. Won’t be going back.

Excellent quality and extremely rapid service, bit of a bore not taking cards and have some weird process where you can order online in the shop and use a card

Disappointing I'm afraid. Had food from here before and its been good. Tonights meal was not very good at all. Dry fish, not crispy batter, chips soft and soggy, not crunchy on outside obviously stood on warming shelf for too long. Wouldn't buy from here again.

Came in tonight just ordered some chips, they were not ready but did not mind waiting but staff member went and scraped chips off somone else's chip butty to serve me not sure how long they were there...asked for some fresh chips which they did...but why would I want chips covered in butter if I was not having a chip butty 🙄. Won't be coming back unfortunately.

A bit of a faff ordering. They only take cash unless you order online so if you turn up and order your food and then only have a card you have to use their online ordering system to order and pay for what you’ve already ordered and have in a bag infront of you going cold. It’s entirely their choice what payment methods to accept of course. The food is excellent and worth the extra faff and at least we will know for next time we are in the area.

Great fish, chips and fishcakes. Have them regularly and they are consistently good.

Tried here tonight for the first time. Chips ate very generous and lovely tasty. Not made up of scraggy pieces like our local. Will be back in the future.

Possibly the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a lot) fish - dry with thin patches of batter. Chips - soggy and undercooked. And in this day and age, can you believe they would not accept card payment, WHY!!!

After witnesses a man storm into the chip shop and kick off swearing and very clearly trying to intimidate the young woman behind the counter I was amazed how well the young lady handled the situation. I don’t often leave a review but after finding out the review that he had been left I felt morally obliged to leave a review myself. The man was clearly either bullied at school or is extremely hen pecked and feels the need to intimidate teenage girls to make himself feel better and probably in his own small mind makes him feel like a real man which he is clearly not.

I’ve been going to this chip shop, on and off, since it opened. Reasonable fish and chips and the only one which does Irish curry sauce that I know off. They seem to handle small orders ok but God help you if you have a large order. I wish I could say that this was an isolated case but it keeps happening. Let me set you a scene. Some friends and family came over one evening. Decided to have a fish and chip dinner. 16 items in total which cost a bit. Made my order online. Drove to the chip shop and arrived at the appointed time and it was busy. Waited for my order. Collected my order and drove home. Unpacked the order and found that all the sauces that we ordered were missing. So, I had to break away from my guests (who weren’t impressed) to drive all the way back to the shop. Told the staff behind the counter that all my sauces in the order were missing and how could this happen. One of the girls behind the counter replied ‘Well you saw how busy we were’. Really??? That is your response/excuse. Imagine taking your car to have something fixed and driving home to find it wasn’t fixed. You go back to the garage and their response is ‘Well, you saw how busy we were’. Why is their problem suddenly now my problem? I said to her ‘Well, why don’t you cross the items off the order list when you pack them?’. Her response was ’That would take too long’. So, it’s all right to waste 25 minutes of my time, driving there and back to the chip shop to collect something that should have been checked, but God forbid I waste twenty seconds of her time crossing items as they’re being packed. I told her that whatever system they’re using isn’t obviously working. She just walked away mumbling something about management and she obviously didn’t want to engage with me anymore. So, here’s a message to the management of this shop. This is not a one-off incident and it keeps happening. If there are more than a few items in the order, the staff tends to lose track of what they’re doing and items get missed. Change the way the orders are checked, at least on larger orders, before the order leaves the premises. Other take-aways do it, so employ a system that works. After spending a sizeable amount, I went home to a cold and mildly soggy dinner which I didn’t enjoy that much and feeling very annoyed. My guest weren’t too happy about the situation either. And by the way, I still found one more item that was missing from the order and that’s when I gave up.

Great chippy, generous portions busy but quick service. Highly recommended for tubby folk like me 😀

After visiting recently with his Grandad, this is now my adult sons new favourite place for a chippy tea. Despite the fact that we live about an 15 minute drive away, we still travel here rather than going more local as the family enjoyed it so much.

Staff have attitude. Not welcoming and threw my order at me whilst turning away.

By far the best chippy about. Go every Friday for work and every Friday we have an amazing dinner. Fish is just fantastic from here. Quality fish and cooked to perfection. Been going every Friday for over a year now and it is the absolute favourite part of my working week by far! (Though I still don't understand why a fish cake is called a rissole 🤷🏻‍♀️🤔🤷🏻‍♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍)

Absolutely beautiful fish and chips. The staff are great, friendly and polite and we love it here. If there is a queue is goes down quickly and is definitely worth the wait. You can order ahead which is also really handy too.

After visiting family we decided for fish & chips. This was one of the best fish & chips we have ever tasted in a long time. Large portions and fish in great batter. We can highly recommend this takeaway.

I was privileged to be able to try the fish and chips from Village Fisheries while visiting my Grandparents in Dronfield earlier this year. All I can say is that I was stunned by how good they were. Perfect, flaky, flavourful fish in crisp batter accompanied by the ideal English chip. The perfect articulation of traditional, delicious Yorkshire faire. I can't wait to go back.

Fish from here is always just delicious. Never had one yet thats been oily, greasy, bland or dry. It's always been mouthwatering, freshly cooked and beautiful. Like every chippy they give you enough chips to feed you for 3 days 🤣🤣 but they are always good. Exactly what you want when you have a chippy tea. We use this place every Friday tea time without fail. (Due to work its part of the clients weekly routine) and never once have I had a disappointing meal. That's pretty good going when you consider that it's been almost a year since we started going now! The staff are quick to deal with your order and always prepare and wrap it up well. Reasonable prices too. Also offer a click and collect service which is a good idea and a convenient option for many people these days. Only gave 4 stars instead of 5 just because there have been a couple of occasions where they weren't at the top of their game in relation to their customer service, but nothing that warrants publically naming and shaming them. Most of them are friendly, polite and professional. Just the odd one that is sometimes abrupt, short and sharp when speaking to you which comes across as a bit rude. Could be their natural temperament or could have just been a bad moment. After all, everyone has off days. Bottom line is its about the food and I can't really fault that. Oh and they have a totally bizarre name for a fish cake that I can't remember what it is. But they call it something really weird and something else is called a fish cake?! 🤔🤷‍♀️ Can be very confusing when you don't know the difference and you are wanting a regular fish cake but end up with something else instead! 😳🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️👍

When I have my grandchildren they always want fish and chips from here. Big portions of chips - the small portions is enough for 3 of us.

Feel ripped off went in the bin once I tipped the beans out. The colour on the photos aren't out and the second picture is a spoon of Heinz beans. £5.60 for chips, beans and a drink and went straight in the bin. I would rather I hadn't got any rather than sell these. Really gone downhill and think I may have been overcharged too!

Terrible brown dry beans, really gone downhill. Not appealing in the slightest went straight in the bin wish I could add a photo even my hubby who eats anything wouldn't go near them.

Food is cooked fresh and always hot, both myself and my husband love the food here. My husband never ate fish and chips but now he cant get enough of it and says hell never eat fish anywhere else. Staff are very friendly even when it's extremely busy. Which is rightly so. Very good quality and quantity. Highly recommend eating from here.
