Tupton Fish Bar in North East Derbyshire

35 years ive been going here at least once a week. They undercharged me by 50p and insisted I fetch my card out of van to pay the amount owed, I asked if I could pay it next time , they refused me. I fetched my card and paid the 50p, they told me it hadn't taken it so scan again which I did. When I got home I checked and it had been taken out twice. Then to top it off when I opened the bag the ordered was incomplete. I will not go back, even though it's the best food in the area...my loss I guess

Best fish and chips (and lots of other options too) for miles! The portions are very generous, the service is pretty efficient for what is often a very busy place. It's not always very chatty for a local place, but given how many people they're serving, that's understandable.

always getting orders wrong ordered 2 gravies with meal got home got 2 curries peas had been watered down tasted of nothing ordered regular chips same size as small we usually get won't be going again

Decent place for fish and chips

Runs very efficiently nice to see somewhere that is staffed well. Although a large queue service was very good.

This is a great fish and chip shop. They aren't expensive and the portions are great. It also helps that everything is tasty too.

Ordered and paid for two lots of Fish and Chips the large version and got one large version and one regular. As they were wrapped up, asked specifically if they were both large to which they replied they were when it was obviously untrue. Chips okay.

We live in the area and it's our go to chip shop,friendly staff,clean and lovely food even my parents come for the chips and they live at Bolsover

Well what can I say, we only stopped off after a long drive so we thought we'd pop in the nearest chippy as was very hungry and more of a drive ahead, We ordered pie chips and mushy peas with mint sauce open, we waited and waited and watched about 20 different customers getting served before us, Finally we got service ' if that's what you can call it, I was handed a pie, carton of peas with no mint sauce and a bag of chips all closed, So I ask please could we have it open as we previously asked on order, to my amazement said member of staff opened each item and handed it to us individually.....a pie on a piece of paper chips just opened up in front of us on the counter and mushy peas in a carton, I then saw another member of staff squirt mint sauce into the peas and put lid back on . There you go... Me.... could we please have each item all together as requested ie in a carton or on a tray ? Staff.....Ohhhh you want it on a tray all together? Me ...yes please. 10 minutes later ordering put on a tray , mushy peas this time had no mint sauce on. Me.... please could I have mint sauce on my mushy peas please.. Staff all over your mushy peas.... Me yes please Staff...woman member of staff , YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE !very rudely replied " make sure you ask next time" as to make out we were in the wrong.I thought to myself there won't be a next time.....how dare you speak to your customers like that, trust me never going back , you madam need to brush up on your customer relation skills , and listen to what's been said and get out of that "I'm never wrong bubble" ps I only left a star as didn't have the option to leave a ZERO , just a horrible experience and spoilt my food , rude rude rude and inexperienced staff not trained up to standard , very miserable place.

A very good chippy in Tupton. Amazing friendly staff. Here nearly every Friday for dinner. Does kebabs and burgers as well as fish and chips. Can't fault them.

Just had a chippy tea , except they forgot to put the chips but charged for them , I had a large haddock , tasted like it had been cooked 12 hours ago , batter like cardboard, usually a good chippy but terrible tonight...can't see me spending 20 quid there again anytime soon....

Easily the best chippy I've been to, though parking can be precarious at times.

Our first and not our last visit! What a gem of a find! Popped in on a Monday night, freshly cooked to order Cod and Scampi, the Scampi was amazing and so was everything else! Mushy peas was a wow! The lady cooking you could tell has so much pride in her job! Even down to the fine details of packaging to keep the food at its best 👌 honestly this is now my go to and I will most definitely be spreading the word! Top notch food!

Honestly this place wtf…several times me or my partner have ordered and seemingly they don’t put vinegar on your order. I don’t like salt but I like loads of vinegar and whenever we go to this place I can’t taste is hint of it…it’s literally tasteless…I’m like is this a joke? Are they taking the piss?

absolutely amazing, i came in friday for some food and the man who served me was so polite and respectful the food was perfectly cooked and so flavourful. it was so filling and worth it.

Good fish & chips.....very entertaining listening to the big lad who thinks he's a cut above because he's part of the Tupton Chippy empire 🙄 😉. If you've ever seen Brittas Empire,you'll know what I mean.

Ordered a large chips……this was £4.60 and very disappointing! The portion size along with the staff attitude who seem to be very put out by the customers who visit. Only popped in for a quick portion of chips with the kids to scope it out for a future visit……… don’t think we will be returning. I fully understand that prices are going up but they have a small, medium and large…..if that was the size for a large portion, I dread to think what you would get for a small. It’s chopped potatoes in a fryer and arguably the staple that sets your standards for quality and value for money! I wouldn’t mind the £4.60 price tag if you actually got a large portion.

Very disappointed with last two lots of fish and chips I've had from North Winfield and clay Cross. My son advised Tupton and so glad I heeded his advice. Best fish and chips I've had for ages. I will be going again next time I fancy fish & chips and will be recommending.

Good food, would recommend a sign advising what needs to be ordered, rather than waiting to front of queue then to be told "have you ordered it"

Mini fish chips & peas. Excellent. Crispy batter. Hot, deliciousl, and very enjoyable. Priced just right. Excellent value for money.

Awful kebab. Had chicken and it was just tiny little pieces of chicken thigh which was tasteless and grey. If you want a decent chicken kebab go Best Kebab or King Kebab in town. Chips were ok but that was the only good thing…

Always been our normal go to fish n chips, but not anymore. I understand prices go up, but wow prices gone up and portions gone down… photo attached was a large fish…. Absolutely not large and more like a large battered sausage. The person making the fish, rolled her eyes when another staff member asked for more large fish. Isn’t that part of your job to make the fish and aren’t you a fish & chip shop so you would think you’d be happy making and serving what you are supposed to do!! Wont be returning anytime soon with the staffs attitude and the portion sizes! We order a medium chips which is normally more than enough for myself, husband and child. However yesterday wasn’t the case. No Facebook page, no website it’s like there trying to hide……

I decided to try this chippy for the first time as it was open for business on a Monday, when most chippys are closed. The food was excellent, reasonably priced, friendly staff. I use to visit the chippy in Grassmoor, until I got fed up with the owners surly attitude, I'd rather drive a few miles then put another penny in his pocket. Well done Tupton Fish Bar, you've got my support for now on.

The chips are a bit hit and miss. Sometimes not cooked enough but, on the whole, a good chippy.

I’ve been going here since a kid, it’s changed management a few times. It seems a little less organised than previously experienced as I went with a friend and waited 15 mins for an order, whilst 3 people got their orders before me and they were cooked fresh. Needs organising a little better Good food though.

The first time having fish and chips from this płace. I have to say, it was the best fish and chips in this area. The fish was perfect! Filled with flavour and so succulent. The chips were also cooked to perfection. Definitely coming again!!

After fin-ishing work I had arranged to meet some school friends for a so-fish-icated chippy tea. The worlds you’re oyster when it comes to chippys round these parts and there are some dodgy trawlers about, but I knew from past experience that the Tupton Fish Bar has never let me down. I had a large pre-order for collection and everything was bagged up separately spot on; I couldn’t be doing with a roe. Compliments to the lass who stayed on the line with me. It was reel good service, patience and even tried to save me money. I think I’m hooked. Prices were also good considering inflation is bubbling about at the minute. When we did chowder down on the catch all me crew mates were pleased and went home with sat-fish-eyed full bellies. Top work.

Cod had a flower Smell and tasted funny batter very very soggy spent £30 as a treat for the family and would have rather have got something out of my freezer and cooked myself

Friendly staff all of them, it has a lovely atmosphere and the food has always been excellent, yes sometimes you have to wait as there is usually a queue but good food is worth the wait and its never a long wait. If your usually queuing to get in a place that always tells you it's good and they are.

Visited this shop today 17/12/12 , customer service was none existent, 1 guy serving he had two speeds ….. go slow and stop, unbelievable miserable/ rude. Chips tasted old and the battered sausage tasted like it had been on the hot plate for days. The other two staff seemed friendly to customers but this guy was just so rude , I asked politely for salt &vinegar on the chips ‘ his facial expressions was like I asked him for a £100 loan…….won’t ever be going back! Apparently he is always like this.

We ordered food for 5 people, large fish was missing. Food was cold by time returned to get the fish. Asked for 2 orders to be packed seperate but the guy serving just wanted to pack them all together despite our request. The guy who served us looked scruffy was wearing the uniform top and jogging bottoms with old paint on from decorating - not very professional for a business selling food. Rest of staff seemed stressed and unhappy in their work and appeared to be getting told off alot by the manager.

First customer today at 17.00 Fish and Pie, lovely. But chips....... cold, tasted old, not very nice at all. Would have gone back, but the traffic back to Tupton was looking a bit heavy. So would have taken 30 mins.

I've had a lot more positive experiences here than bad, but you need to air the negative so they can improve. One particular young male server is useless, he forgets what you've asked for after a few seconds, you have to constantly repeat yourself, it's happened a few times with him, rest of the staff are fine, no issues listening. I ordered chips, curry, and chicken breast, and a potato fritter. Was told to wait outside, a chicken breast was already in the cabinet. The young lad said do I want the fritter now?..... I said, no I want it with the rest of the meal. 20 minutes later I go inside, I ask what's going on, he's forgotten my order, so quickly grabs the chicken breast that was there when I walked in,gets the chips, curry. And hands it over no apology or anything, I get to my car and check, he's forgot the fritter! So I go back inside, young lady who's always great, says sorry and do I want a free can of pop, I say no it's okay, thanks. Big lad who's the owners son just stands there and looks at you funny, nothing from him which is usual, no customer friendliness at all. Yet he chats to the female customers no problem. I'm case your still reading this, everything tastes good, just staff problems. All the women who work there are great.

I go here regularly and typically have cod and chips. Lovely white cod fillet, nicely battered and the chips are always great and full of flavour. Not sure why people here have complained about portion sizes, I’m always stuffed! They also do really good chicken kebabs and I’m quite partial to some fried halloumi every now and then.

This chip shop is normally my favorite one but .. I’ve been 3 times now in the past as many months .. 1st visit - wrong sausage given , no fish cake , chips weren’t great. 2nd visit - no sauce on kebab meat and chips even though I asked for plenty , chips not great again. 3rd and my last visit , mixed kebab meat and chips , chicken burnt to a cinder , lamb meat was old and dry , chips old too. I’ve gone back after each visit thinking it ain’t that bad and given the benefit of the doubt , I won’t be back now ... staff all look miserable as hell , what happened to this place ? Used to be lovely !

We order here regularly with it being the closest fish shop - I would normally class it as 'just okay' and good enough for the price . Some months ago ordered a fish and it was pretty dry, I get I can be picky with how cooked my fish is so just put it down to a me problem and regular order sausage instead ,easier to cook, harder to mess up.Then today I'm thinking I fancy a fish. As soon as my partner walked through the door it hits me it doesn't smell right... Have you ever put off seafood in your mouth? The worst part is the rotting taste lingers for hours D=. My partner has no sense of smell but surly.. Surly those who deal with fish can smell a problem with it - should have never hit the fryer. I do like fish, so it's time to move on.

Was really looking forward to a nice fish and chip tea then opened the food to find soggy oily batter, cold chips and fish tasted horrible. Definitely wouldn’t recommend and won’t be back again.

Visited here on many occasions most of the food is ok but chips very pale usually undercooked but my main problem is its so unwelcoming miserable staff who look like they really dont want to be there never seen one of them smile or chat to customers wont be visiting again in a hurry

Visited just after it opened and the 2large bags o chips we got were obviously reheated and mostly black they were disgusting had to throw both bags!!!!wont be going back!!

Usually my local chippy as the food is good. However I won’t be returning again now. I was overcharged a fair bit (by accident and this isn’t my gripe at all either - things happen). When I asked politely if I can check the order the guy who works there regularly he printed off the receipt and handed it to me (didn’t check it at all). Personally I would have gone through it with a customer to ensure there wasn’t a mistake. Feeling a bit awkward I accepted it and walked away. Upon checking the receipt again outside I noticed there was definitely an error and returned to say I’d been charged for three of an item when I only ordered (and received) two. The guy opened the till and gave it me back. No apology, no words at all. Just a general bad attitude of which I don’t seem to be the first to have experienced. The other staff I’ve never had an issue with.

Most of the staff are miserable especially the bald head young guy who works there.. it’s like trying to get blood out of a stone. Customer service is shocking & you’re lucky if a medium bag of chips would feed a hamster.

Usually have the Tupton specials of doner/chicken chips. But fancied fish and chips, will stick with the usual next time the batter was soggy. Will wait until we can go back to the coast for fish and chips

This place is great if you like seafood. I personally don't but this place impressed me, they have lots of other options. Usually pop in if we don't know what to eat. Only down the road.

After a satisfying but tiring day and a long drive home, we stopped to pick up some fish and chips. It ranks, without question, alongside the best we’ve ever had, even better than Harry Ramsden in the golden age of Guiseley.

Horrible place. Undercooked food and bad communication skills. The staff was snotty. Rude and don’t no the meaning of “extra mayo” as paid for extra mayo and still only had 2 chips covered then had the nerve to tell me to pay more when I went back in and said they didn’t put enough mayo on. The sausage was undercooked and the chips was more yellow then the bloody Simpson’s.

Had Large fish and chips from here last night 10/10/18, very disappointed spent £12 50 on soggy battered fish and chips which were hard and cold, twice we have been there and twice we have been disappointed , will not be going again.

Several months ago & only about 1 month ago on midweek evenings we enjoyed the mini fish & chips special, but the same tonight was extremely disappointing & a waste of £8.60, very annoying - firstly because the cost is advertised as £8.20 but I wasn't told that they charge the extra 40p if u have the peas or whatever in a carton. Then the food - the chip portions were generous & the taste acceptable but I've had alot better. The fish was terrible - about half was just batter which was thick & hard. The little bit of fish there was, was very dry - I think it had been reheated. I wanted to complain but reckon I'll get the same response as the other recent reviewer. We won't be returning - what a rip off! :(

We were told the fish and chips were very good here, though we have never used this place before. It was a lunchtime visit at 11.45. On unwrapping the two supposedly large cod and chips it was quite evident that they had been reheated and not freshlycooked that morning. The batter on the fish was hard and cold while the fish was grey.The chips were hard and cold. On ringing up to complain we were met with totalindifference- no apology or offer of recompense. Very upsetting and annoying.

Fabulous fish small med large, chips are always fresh, different flavour Pies, chicken or meat Kebabs,children's meals, several sauces, salad, chicken breast & more all made fresh as you walk in, we have never had a disappointing meal from here mmm.......

Been coming here for yrs. However will be awhile before I come back if ever.Really has gone downhill.Used to do the best kebabs in the area. However today's version not nice. Very greasy and no variety with the salad. I just got lots of cabbage & the garlic mayo tastes cheap & nasty. Also had chips which again were horrible. I'm not sure if they've changed there suppliers. But standards have dropped.

Horrible, yet another 'Chippy' that uses seemingly cheap oil, they appear to make a fair amount of money as they have luxury cars etc. I have many older friends who share my view, we remember the traditional 'British Chippy' where quality was the priority, in my opinion Tupton Fish Bar is the lower end of the scale along with Harry Ramsdens, I travel miles to get better fish and chips. It is no longer a cheap meal and therefore the travel costs are justified. Tupton - no, wild horses would not drag me there, however they always seems busy when I pass, many must be satisfied, or is it that if they want fish and chips convenience over rides quality, not for me I would rather go hungry.

Not been for a while, but went last week, the place has been refurbished, the best looking chippy around, nice tv screens with menus on,friendly staff. The quality of the fish and chips is great, will be back again soon.

He estado allí 2 x haber llegado en noviembre. . Primero de eglefino (enorme y perfectamente maltratada y preparado) y de nuevo por sus vueltas o lo que ellos llaman kebabs (cordero en pita con salsa de yogur y menta, cebollas, tomates, pepinos y repollo). Todos ellos practica golf 4 de nosotros y una vez más, una nueva persona que nunca habían probado uno no podía creer lo deliciosas que eran. Han remodelado, tienen un 5 por su limpieza y a pesar de la línea de salida de la puerta, preparar y mano comida impresionante rápido. Este lugar es genial.

Gran "fish and chips". Viernes noche habitual, la comida es siempre fresca y caliente y el servicio es excelente también. Lo recomiendo encarecidamente
