This was the worst Vietnamese food I have ever had. I have cooked Vietnamese food in Australia as a chef. Travelled Vietnam for a month twice and I can whole heatedly say I was robbed. Bo LA lot, so dry. The bahn xeo was okay. Not great but the most edible. Pho, over cooked noodles with no texture. The stock was so flat. Had no depth. Corners had been cut and the beef again, very dry. I understand Scottish people don't like heat but doesn't mean you need to remove all flavour. I was recommended because I said I missed pho and was excited to see some of my favorite dishes. The chef can't cook or doesn't care. Seriously all the beef was like jerky. Have some pride and maybe even try putting your meat in some brine. 66 pound for a restaurant so appalling I reckon instant pho would be better.

What a great place without a doubt! The food is delicious and authentic, it restores your soul, the tea is spectacular. I would return a thousand times!

Ordered a few things a couple of meals and a dessert. Coffee good, ice tea good. 2 of us. Bill came to 100 and pence. Felt high for what we received. We are hearty eaters. Great experience, but probably not the best fit. I would recommend it.

People often think that eating at home is healthier. I completely agreed with this point of view until I visited Vietnam House restaurant. When I started college, cooking took up a lot of my time. When the wonderful time came, I realized that Vietnam House is the best restaurant I have ever known. Vietnam House is located in a small alley near my school. During a book-shopping trip across the alley, I accidentally turned into a restaurant for lunch. It is decorated in a warm classic style with ocher tones. The wall with plants and dried flowers makes me very comfortable. The restaurant has a wall made of glass. That is why the store is always filled with warm natural light. All the food and drinks here are delicious and it is also reasonably priced for students. I usually visit this place 2 to 3 times a week for lunch, to study, or read a book. The hostess and service staff were very kind. After many appearances at the restaurant, we got to know each other and became friends. Try to visit this restaurant if you have time. I really like the way they present this dish creatively, so I would highly recommend this dish to all my friends and family. It is always a pleasure to enjoy this dish at Vietnam House Restaurant.

Dined here several times in a group of 8-10 when German friends visit. There is a 50\50 mix of Vegetatians & meat eaters. I’d say it can hold 40-50 patrons split into 2 areas & is generally quite full. Staff are efficient, very friendly & not overbearing. Even in a large group the food arrives hot & quickly. Music is modern & at a good volume to allow easy conversation to be heard and generally, lots of art and lanterns give this a very cosy & relaxed dining experience. We had a mix of curries, stir fry, duck, & pho dishes. Starters were mainly tofu summer and spring rolls a tofu pancake & a prawn pancake. A good selection of traditional teas & coffees & soft drinks are on offer as well as 3 traditional types of desserts. The food wasn’t bad. However with so many Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese places to dine now, and also with nice veggie & vegan choices, this place isn’t as good as it once was. All the starters lacked flavour, they were very fresh but no herbs or spices. We tried heavily on dipping sauces. The seafood pho with vermicelli-a good amount of seafood but no veg & the noodles were very over cooked. The broth, had a little warmth spice wise but little flavour. It was clean (clear) but extreme salty. There are many dishes that can be made with a choice of prawn, chicken or tofu but the tofu cubes were small & shrivelled. 1 guest had the black rice & yogurt dessert & was very underwhelmed. The yogurt drowned out any taste of the sticky black rice. Teas & traditional coffees didn’t stand out very much either. Including service charges for a large group this worked out £33 each I think they may have a loyal customer base as I personally wouldn’t return for the food. I hope the food improves/has a revamp as it’s a lovely place for our large group to go

Incuriositi dal provare una cucina tanto particolare come quella vietnamita e data la comoda posizione su Haymarket, abbiamo tentato di cenare al Vietnam House Restaurant subito la prima sera ma il locale, essendo piuttosto piccolo, non ha potuto accoglierci senza prenotazione . Abbiamo mangiato qui la sera successiva. Ottima la Banh xeo e il Buon cha Gio Thit Nuong ma super il Pho ovvero una zuppa con Noodle saporita e ricca. Abbiamo pasteggiato con un te suggerito. Dined solo at a Vietnamese restaurant. Had their Stir-Fried Lemongrass Chili with Sweet Chili Sauce, served with rice, along with a colorful rainbow dessert. The dish was flavorful, with a perfect balance of spicy and sweet, and the lemongrass added a nice aromatic touch. The portion was generous, and the rice complemented the dish well. The rainbow dessert was a delightful and refreshing finish to the meal. The service was attentive and prompt, making for an enjoyable lunchtime.

Great place. Food was really good and BYOB is a nice added benefit. A bit expensive but often BYOB places are. We hadn't booked a table and were lucky to get one. Id recommend booking even on weeknights

Shaking beef smells soooo good it can definitely raise your appetite immediately! Grilled chicken tastes differently amazing as well! Highly recommend!

Like receiving the warmest hug after walking around in chilly weather. Ordered the spicy vermicelli soup. Amazing. Lovely wait staff as well. Shout out to the whole operation.

Staff were lovely and service was prompt but the food was very disappointing. We all agreed the dishes were tasteless and, in the case of the street food option and salad with chicken and spring rolls, very dry. The dipping sauce was bland. The salad comprised some shredded cabbage with a few stands of carrot and a frond of coriander. The shaking beef was marginally better but not very exciting. Prices are excessive and when we did some investigation we found much cheaper restaurants. On a positive note, portions were generous. P

Beef stew was absolutely outstanding, felt like I was back in Vietnam! Beautiful taste and flavour, and good portion size too! Staff were extremely kind and helpful....was unsure whether to get beef stew or chicken curry so the waiter suggested the beef, and when I asked about what tea to get, he brought out samples of tea leaves so I could decide for myself (Jasmine tea was great). Highly highly recommend :)

Sublime Vietnamese restaurant to come for dinner, since all the dishes have great flavor and the essence of Vietnamese food. Additionally, the waiters were extremely nice and even tried to speak Spanish with us, which was very appreciated. If I ever return to Edinburgh, I'm sure I'll eat here again.

I had a lovely dinner while I was there, the whole restaurant was packed. The ladies working there were efficient and friendly. Very convenient and near my hotel in the Haymarket area. Their food was beyond what I expected, it was so tasty and fresh. Their iced milo too was so creamy and perfectly made, I had to order another one. The ambiance too is very cute, ties in nicely with the Vietnamese cuisine. The dishes are very expensive though, that is the only negative point, but it was a great time.

Missing Item, No Refund My girlfriend and I recently ordered takeout from Vietnam House Restaurant. Unfortunately, when we got home, we discovered that the drink was missing from the order. After calling multiple times on the issue, The restaurant provided us with an email address to handle the refund, but after sending the email, we never received a response or the refund. On a side note: the pho soup used to be one of our favorites, it is now bland compared to what it used to be.

We went here twice for dinner during our short stay in Edinburgh as our accommodation was nearby but we would absolutely go out of our way to come back here again. The food is delicious, fresh and comes quickly. The restaurant is welcoming and cosy and Melvin was an attentive and very friendly server. Highly recommend the summer rolls and fish cake bun bo hue but all the food around us looked really tasty and we look forward to trying more of the menu next time.

Incredibly helpful staff who found a table for us even though restaurant was fully booked. Food was exceptionally good that we made a second visit. I highly recommend a visit here.

Disappointed. We came to check it out because of high ratings. Unfortunately neither the pho nor the summer rolls delivered well. The rolls were lacking in herbs and flavors. The digging sauce was very thick and had little peanut flavor except for the crushed peanuts sprinkled on top. The pho soup was clean tasting though the beef was a tab overcooked in my opinion.

Used to be our favourite restaurant. What a disappointment. If you look for them online, most results show the old menu (50+ fantastic main courses) but the new one has almost halved the choice. They've also added a cheeky service charge. The food was fine but some of their best dishes have been removed. Hoped that their sister restaurant round the corner, Pho Viet, might still be running the old menu but they've updated too. Not sure if it's new ownership or just a change, but we won't be back. If I want to tip, I will. Service charge just looks greedy and I'm asking for it to be removed.

We like a good pho and we've eaten it in Vietnam, many other countries and at several places in Glasgow and Edinburgh. This time, wife ordered the raw beef pho and I had the raw beef and beef ball pho, and we shared the summer rolls as an appetizer. The summer rolls came first and they were okay. I prefer the kind with more distinct flavours and with fish sauce as the accompaniment. This one came with a hoisin type sauce which needed a good dollop of hot sauce to give it a kick. The pho came a bit later and was nice and hot, but the beef was surprisingly tough for raw beef. Not at all what we expected. The beef balls were okay but nothing special. Or tells a lot that I was reaching for the hot sauce repeatedly! Not our kind of pho, I guess.

Tasty food but tables too close together

Lovely Vietnamese restaurant not too far from Haymarket. It is BYOB with £3 corkage per person. Lovely curries and the spring roll starters were great.

The best Vietnamese restaurant on my family's journey from London to Scotland. The owner is Vietnamese, so the food is quite standard with Vietnamese flavors. My family enjoys Hue Beef Noodles and Grilled Rib Rice, both dishes are delicious and very filling.

Busy when we were in. Very cosy tables and some very close together. Food fresh and delicious.

Pho Bo Tai (Pho Raw Beef) is better than the ones I have tried in London and comparable to the ones I had in Vietnam. Personally, the highlight is the creamy duck curry! You can’t find this in all Vietnamese restaurant - the spices, the taste of Thai basil, and the creamy texture differentiate itself from other types of curry!

Excellent restaurant which I first visited over 10years ago. It hasn’t changed - same great flavours and attentive service. Try the pork in caramel sauce! And the black sticky rice pudding.

Super friendly and helpful staff, it really feels like an authentic, family-run place. I highly recommend the fried spring rolls and the pho. The place inside is very nice and decorated in a typical way, unfortunately a little small so it's better to book. I would definitely stay here again!

Delicious! The portions are generous. You will enjoy. Be careful to reserve a table if you go there on the weekend.

The 1/2 duck tasted horrific and was overly battered. The little meat on the fat and batter tastes old. The sauces had almost no taste and the rice was so plain that you wouldn't know what you were eating

Food was amazing but had read on their website about the quality of service - it really was. Staff were very busy but still very attentive (dropped my napkin and it was picked up and replaced before I even noticed), and friendly. Great value too, well worth a visit.

Best Vietnamese restaurant in town, run by a Vietnamese lovely lady reminds me of my grandmother ❣️ They also sell a lot of artwork and crafts hand bags. I got a lovely one for myself. You can come to eat and visit the gallery.

Nice place, very beautiful decoration inside. However, the food is not really meet my expectations - I ordered Pho and it came with nearly plain soup, not rich in flavour at all. For the first time I did not finish a Pho soup :/

Very disappointed as an owner my apartment was let out without my knowledge. Subsequently I was refused entry. This was a timeshare and the minority owner is trying to turn it into a hotel. Standard is falling.

I got the fried spring rolls and sunset curry. Both were excellent. Not the cheapest place. But the food is top notch. Plenty to eat too in fairness.

BYOB - quick - big portion - higher price One of the best Vietnamese food I tasted so far in the north east. We ordered the raw beef pho and bun cha. However their Vietnamese coffee was average. The price is slightly higher than other restaurants in similar category, however their portion is decent. Was crowded when we were there but didn’t need to wait long. They do not serve beer or wine but you can bring your own bottle.

Ordered Pho with prawns and a half roast duck with rice and sauces. The pho had a decidedly funny taste, and was really unpleasant to eat, and I left over half. Although it looked like there were a lot of prawns, they had all been cut in half, so the 7-8 prawn’s looked like 15-16. The worst part was my wife’s meal of half roast duck with sauces and rice. The duck was just a very small breast, still with the skin on, which had obviously been dipped in something then deep fried till it was hard and nearly inedible. Crunchy and tough meat. She barely managed two slices, with a very tasteless sauce and a few mouthfuls of rice. She left the rest. We complained to the waitress, and they only took off half of the £18 price for this. We should have realised the food was not going to be great as a Chinese couple a few table from us were also complaining about their meal. Two girls next to us also left a lot of food. We would not return to this restaurant.

Having a bowl of classic Vietnamese pho in the cold and windy Scottish weather is so happy and satisfying! It warms your heart! The Vietnam House Restaurant has always been one of my favourite restaurants in Edinburgh. It is not only a tremendous Asian restaurant but brilliant among all kinds of dining places in this city. I particularly like the pho and grilled meat they serve; they are just so tasty. Also, if you are a dessert person, you will definitely find something nice and interesting on their menu. If you are looking for great food, friendly people, and a comfortable, exotic environment, this is the place!

This is a top recommendation for authentic Vietnamese food in Edinburgh. Flavours took me back to the 4 years we lived there. Staff were friendly and attentive. The manager went out of his way to make us feel comfortable.

I had a solo dinner here and was pleased with the food and how friendly the staff were. The service was impeccable. I order the chicken pho, but ended up with the spicy version. Luckily for me I like spice! The broth was delicious and the meal was fresh. The summer rolls were definitely not the best I’ve had and were quite chewy sadly. However, the dipping sauce was tasty. I’d recommend this place for a quick, tasty dinner.
