Viet Cafe in Southwark

Had the best pho in Viet Café, Denmark Hill on Saturday. The Banh Mi was delicious, very authentic. The café is rustic and a great place to catch up with friends or a bit of Me Time eating on my own. Tables were cleaned as soon as the customer leaves. We did not need to wait long after ordering the food. Highly recommended.

Had a very unpleasant experience today. Ordered sweet and sour prawn and noodle dish only to have it served at what I would call a"tepid" temperature. After alerting the staff they took it away only to "reheat"in the microwave and bring back to the table In my opinion a very lazy chef and a very uninviting meal. Extremely disappointed . This restaurant is mainly used by tourists .

My partner and I went here for lunch, he has never tried the banh mi (Vietnamese baguette) before so I took him here. Also we have never been to this place before so we thought we give it a try, wish we hadn’t. The place was absolutely filthy, old and need refurbishment, the toilets was shocking and dirty. The staff are rude, the owner is very rude and abrupt. Their customer service is appalling, they don’t know how to serve/treat customers. The food was shocking, the banh mi was horrible, very dry and had absolutely no taste whatsoever. I don’t know what the hell I ate but it was definitely not a Vietnamese baguette. I’m Vietnamese so I know what a Vietnamese baguette taste like. Makes me laugh with the comments here of people saying how fantastic the Vietnamese food and baguette is at this place, these people don’t know what real Vietnamese food and baguette taste like, either that or the staff at this cafe are writing those comments which I wouldn’t be surprised. If you want fantastic real authentic Vietnamese food then I recommend Mama Pho in Deptford, not at this place. I would rather spend my money somewhere else, avoid this cafe at all cost!!!

Fuimos a almorzar el sábado, comimos el Viet Special Banh Mi, estofado de ternera con baguette y cerdo a la parrilla con arroz para compartir. Todo sabía increíble y el cerdo a la parrilla era divino. El pago fue muy simple, escanea un código QR, ve el menú, hace su pedido indicando su número de mesa y paga con tarjeta, lo que permite un servicio sin contacto, por lo que no estoy seguro de lo que los revisores anteriores quisieron decir sobre la necesidad de pagar en efectivo . También puede pagar en efectivo si lo desea. El mostrador de la cafetería tenía pantallas transparentes como medida de protección contra Covid. También había un gran código QR para registrarse usando la aplicación NHS. Definitivamente volveremos la semana que viene para su famoso pho (solo los sábados). El servicio era eficiente y los cocineros / propietarios de la cafetería eran amables, aunque obviamente estaban ocupados, por lo que no siempre tenían tiempo para charlar. Es un café sencillo, sin lujos pero acogedor, que es claramente popular entre los que lo conocen.

Nos encanta la comida, pero el propietario no es amigable con el cliente. Finalmente acepta el pago con tarjeta pero de repente prefiere EFECTIVO! ¿ahora que? ? ¡Perderás a tus clientes leales! ¡al menos el propietario podría tener una actitud agradable hacia los clientes!

The Viet cafe has nice tasty currys, although the meat can be a bit fatty, the portions are good, it is flavoursome and comes quickly. I have not tried the sandwiches but they look good. Would recommend for dinner or lunch!

If you fancy any Vietnamese food from this cafe....you need CASH, not 50£ note AND they don’t accept bronze coins...!!! TOO MANY CONDITIONS Be prepared!!! Otherwise, choose other restaurants so you’ll save your good mood!!

Come here as often as I can. Pho is beautiful with good quality beef and a lovely broth. Very good value too. Vermicelli salads and banh mis also brilliant. Never had a bad dish and always excited to come. Happy staff. Truely faultless, favourite place in London especially for an easy, casual, long term cheap meal.

My girlfriend and I come here all the time because it's world class. Lovely unassuming restaurant, great staff, brilliant food and super cheap. Could not recommend any more highly, get yourself down

After reading the reviews and a quick call we booked a table. (Online booking didn’t seem to want to work). We were going to the theatre and this was a great option. It is basic set up but very well priced and service was exceptionally quick. They ensured they could find good options for me with an allergy to gluten and dairy. In fact she suggested something off the menu which was lovely. They don’t clear the tables in between courses but I think that adds to the atmosphere and I am getting so fed up of places that take your plate before the table has finished eating or as fast as you take your last bite! So very happy here. Simple, fast and tasty.

I go to Viet Cafe regularly. It’s always amazing. My gf has prawns and I always get the tofu. Delicious. Big portions. Good price.

We went in for lunch and had the set price appetizer and main for 12.95 pounds and they added a tip.I had an egg role, very good and fried pork with fried rice. My sister had a rice noodle salad and chicken and rice noodle main. We both ate everything but my sister had to ask for hot sauce as it was very spicey. The watress ignored us and we had to ask for water twice. I would eat there again s I enjoyed my meal.

Piccolo locale nel centro di Londra. Propone cucina vietnamita discreta, ma in generale meglio i piatti di carne rispetto a quelli di pesce. Buona la fomula pranzo, con un antipasto e un piatto principale a 13 sterline. Servizio veloce e cordiale. Prezzi nella media londinese.

The food here is great however there is a lady that has her hair in a crocodile clip that can be very very rude and abrupt The other staff are friendly especially the lady who does the baguettes. The food is good and tasty with lots of flavour so don't let the rude staff put you off. Definately like visiting on my lunch break ! The beef is always a winner

Quick service, friendly waitress, excellent food, but very over-priced. Calamari starter is delicious but very small portion. The beef pho delicious but simple.

The most accessible comfort food place for me. Love their warm pho, grilled pork and chicken satay with rice or baguette! Affordable and lovely staff.

Este es un lugar reconfortante.

Main dishes are very nice and cheap, pho is served every saturday (perfect for winter). Cash only. Staff can feel rather abrupt sometimes but the atmosphere is nice overall.

Recientemente estuve en la zona por motivos de negocios Denmark Hill y algunos colegas decidimos almorzar en Nando's. Yo no Nando, así nosotros dos desmarcamos y llegó a Viet Cafe. Es un café con sentido común y barato y sencillo haciendo realmente suculentos tallarines caldo vietnamita, platos de arroz y-bahn mi. El servicio era amable y rápido. Hay unas pocas mesas por dentro y por fuera con algunos en la parte trasera bajo una inventada inclinarse hacia. Pero no vayas por la decoración, pero con buena cocina, casa de estilo vietnamita. Claramente popular, porque estaba ocupado con una pequeña cola formando. Cualquier día nando's supera.

Great place with genuine and cer good vietnameese meals! My favorite is prawn curry! Food is delicious, generous sizing :) they also introduced big bowl noodle soup which is big and delicious! In addition to this the place is odourless!

Siempre me encantó Pho en los estados unidos. Así que cuando nos encontramos con este restaurante, tuvimos que probar. Para ser sincero, no sólo a través de la puerta porque tenía que Tripadvisor clasificado como un 4. 5 - experiencia 5. El servicio era muy bueno. La camarera de Eslovaquia patadas culo. Ella fue muy amable y servicial con todo. Su atención fue de primera clase. La comida era excepcional. Todo fue con sabor auténticamente y estaba delicioso. El Pho podría haber tenido un poco más de sal, pero en general estupendo. Uno de nuestros favoritos había los calamares, probablemente uno de los mejores que he probado. El precio era justo. Esta es una experiencia para repetir. Gran trabajo.

I come here whenever I can for the great food. Fresh ingredients, lovely flavours! Bahn mi is excellent and their salads. Great curries too. Staff are always friendly and so efficient!

Good Vietnamese places are hard to find outside of Dalston so this is a great little local for those lucky ducks in Denmark Hill. We arrived with buggy right on their lunch rush and it was non bother to make room for us. We looked around to see what others were eating and the stews looked good. We decided on the tofu stew, caramel pork banh mi, summer rolls and satay chicken salad. The stew was very tasty and the banh mi was delicious. The bread was crisp and soft, the crunch is from the mix of plain and rice flour. Bread aside, we feasted on all four dishes and a few pots of Viet green tea - all for less than £20. The service was warm and helpful and the food was fresh, quick to arrive and delicious. Highly recommend.

I've eaten here a few times, and their prawn curry is one of the best I've ever eaten with a really good portion size for the price. Baguettes also great but ask for no chilli if you can't handle spice!

Really enjoyed this meal. My four kids also thought it was great. Highly recommend it. Good value too. Service was friendly and attentive.

Well-located on Haymarket, useful for reasonably priced pre-theater set menu dinner if you are going to a show at the Criterion. Small restaurant is on two levels (street and basement)....lower level is a little claustrophobic.Food is average plus with some dishes a notch above others. Recommend the Asian salad appetizer and the chicken lemongrass entree. Avoid seafood dishes; except for the shrimp, the seafood served seemed rubbery.Service attentive and prompt.

Went for late lunch. Bright positive atmosphere. I had the chicken curry. Fabulous flavour big serve. The iced Viet coffee excellent as well. Go you won't be disappointed.

I have been here a couple of times for lunch. The food is cooked fresh and quick, perfect for lunch break. I had 'what she's having' which was prawn curry which was amazing large prawns, generous portion and great value. Chilli comes on the side if you like.

I've been coming here for lunch for several years now and it's always my first choice when I am working close by.I always go for the tofu baguette and it is delicious. Accompanied with a pot of fresh Vietnamese green tea, I leave incredibly full and satisfied. This place is always very busy, but the staff always seem to bring your meal very promptly after ordering. There seems to be a varied menu suited for different tastes. Prices are also very reasonable, especially for London.Recommend.

I often find myself thinking about their lunch menu in the morning and when I finally arrive and order it really hits the spot! The flavoursome chicken curry and beef stew have generous portions which are sure to put you in a food coma, whilst the baguettes are great for a lighter lunch! I recommend either the chicken curry or grilled pork baguette and Vietnamese summer rolls for a fresh lunch you'll always look forward to.

Was craving for something hot during a winter evening while waiting to watch a musical and chanced upon this place. The food is really good and is quite authentic. The pho was well cooked and flavours were well balanced. The staff were friendly and food service was quick. Worth stopping by.

We had the taste card offer and this one was very closely located from Trafalgar Square. Super efficient service and fresh ingredients. The spring rolls were sumptuously yummy. Each one us ordered and entree and we tasted all and they were superbly delicious. Good bottle of Malbec and original mojito topped off the dinner. Their sauces were very good

I had a reasonable set lunch menu here. I'm vegetarian, so possible the non-vegetarian food is better. The summer rolls were pleasant but a little bit bland - lots of noodles inside and not so many vegetables and fresh herbs. I then had a vegetable, tofu and noodle dish which was ok but not superb.I am not sure if it was connected but I did feel quite ill that evening and was sick. I probably wouldn't eat here again.

We were anxious to taste some authentic Vietnamese food and found this place near our hotel. Very solid quality. Great spring rolls and pho. Other dishes also good. Perfect for lunch.

Had a lovely pre theatre meal here. The staff are so friendly and the service is good. The food is very tasty. It's not somewhere you would spend an evening as it's fast food. We had two for one with Tastecard so two starters, two main courses, a glass of wine and a jasmine tea came to £25 with service excellent value.

Went here for a quick lunch with my mum today and are disappointed with the food we got! We ordered the co'm with tofu, we got a little plate with dry rice and tasteless fried tofu and a little cold side salad, and paid 7£ each! Coffee costed 2,2£ and was average very disappointed as I usually love Vietnamese food.

Can't believe this place was on my doorstep for so long and only just tried it, had a very generous sized chicken curry with rice for just £6 (in a baguette for £5). Don't know what it is about Vietnamese chicken curry but the chicken is so soft and tender and incredibly tasty.

Had the bahn Mi with grilled pork and I can attest that the medley of flavours was good.. Only issue is that it can be very busy during lunch with no space to sit down. The rice dishes give you enough rice to feed one big man or two small eater, but the accompanying meat is not enough to go with the large amount of rice. Take away seems to be very popular here

Numa visita á região dos hospitais de King's College, optei por almoçar aqui ao perceber que as poucas mesas da casa estavam ocupadas e lá estavam todo o tipo de gente. Os pratos servidos sempre com arroz branco, legumes e uma proteína a sua escolha eram bonitos e pareciam até um prato feito tão comum no Brssil, até a primeira garfada, afinal comida vietnamita é conhecida pelos condimentos e pela pimenta, que estava lá firme e forte. Se você não curte pimenta, busque outra opção, mas caso contrário degustará de um bom almoço por £6,00. Talvez a dica seja pedir uma cerveja para aliviar a pimenta! Recomendo!

Food is nice and staff is even nicer. Surprisingly nice in the very center of London. We were lucky that we found a table - would recommend booking though!

I go there quite often. Food is decent and sizes are great. The restaurant is neat and there is no smell which is great if you pop out off work for a quick lunch. Vietnamese sandwiches are unique and great for catering should you need one.

I went to this place right before going to a musical performance because Vietnamese food sounded good to me. But I was a little disappointed because the grilled fish that I ordered was fishier than I expected, possibly because it was not as fresh as it could be. Perhaps I should have ordered a more typical Vietnamese dish, such as Pho or Bun, since the restaurant needs to replenish the ingredients for the popular dishes everyday. The restaurant staff was busy but responsive, and I see both locals and tourists there, showing its popularity.

We ate lunch here on a Friday afternoon. I had grilled beef with rice and my friend had tofu curry. The service was quick, food freshly cooked, well presented and delicious. It cost around £13 for 2 meals and 2 drinks. The baguettes on the tables of others looked delicious, I'm looking forward to returning soon!

I have been coming here for years, and it really is a tasty option in the area. There is a wide selection of choices. The baguettes are lovely, and as everything is freshly made in front of you, you can ask for things like no butter/no salt. I have had the chicken satay baguettes on many occasions. And also the chicken pesto baguette. I now have the grilled beef with rice and chilli (could be a slightly more generous portion). The place is very busy from around 12.30- 1.30. And lunch time service is quick. It is the times that it is less busy, that service seems to slow down, and you seem to be waiting longer than when it is rammed. The majority of staff are friendly, although one or two can be a bit brusk. They always used to have a copy of the metro and a few other reading materials- a nice touch that has now gone. Which gives a sense of wanting you to not linger- which is my only complaint. They have also started putting a jug of water by the tills and glasses, which is much better than waiting for water to be bought over- It could do, with being a bit colder. All in all, great place to eat good, hot quality food, and reasonably priced.
