Chips have gone downhill recently. Such a shame as we have always loved this place.

The food was delicious! Best Fish and Chips I've had in ages! Reasonably priced, and the staff were friendly.

Best fish and chips by a mile, chunky cod, not greasy at all. Kebabs being cut freshly. Highly recommend!

Quick and very polite service. Let down by cod not being fresh, which you can taste and batter being too thick, soggy and doughy in the inside. Lost half of the batter on the bottom of the fish to the paper wrapping it. This would indicate fryer wasn't up to correct temperature.

Lovely food, good price. Female cashier needs to go on customer service course. No smile and moaning about everything. Made us feel like we were putting hwr out. Two male fryers were pleasant. Maybe she didn't want to work bank holiday. 🤔

The food here is excellent, we had the mixed chicken kebab salad and chips, donnar salad and chips , value box and a small fish and chips. I phoned the order through and was told it would be ready to pick up in 30mins, got there and it was ready for me. Everything was cooked to perfection, and tasted sublime. Staff were absolutely brilliant , we will be definitely be ordering again soon. Thank you very much.

Food is very good in there shame on the girls as they are very rude don't smile at all.and it's uncomfortable for the customer as a few people have said but other then that it's okay.

This is not my preferred Fish and Chip shop , but having read in the local paper about the cost of gas and electricity affecting this business , I thought I would give it a try. Maybe some support will keep the doors open. This review is an open and very honest review and is based solely on my very recent experience. I can confirm that the staff were very friendly and the food I ordered which was Cod and Chips , was ready to be served . The food was piping hot , so it was freshly cooked , and the chips ( which can be variable during the year depending upon potato ) were on the whole firm , crispy , tasty and hot. Now the fish - this was some of the tastiest COD I have eaten in a long time. The fish on first impression was not the biggest I have had for the money - but it was flaky and chunky and not wet , and not dry - just right. All in all -the fish was not too oily which was nice , and the serving was just about the right size , although I have been spoilt by bigger portions elsewhere for similar money - but time are difficult so its not a judgement at all. Now I have just 2 VERY small things to mention , and I must stress that these will not stop me from returning. 1.The vinegar did not really have much flavour - I just couldn't smell or really taste it. 2.The batter in the COD was very soft , almost soggy. I'm used to crispy batter , and this may well be the style of this shop - I don't know. However - neither of these 2 minor points spoilt my experience , and I will return. Good luck - its a good eating experience. ############################################ Last visit late Jan 2023. I really want to support this business BUT my COD and chips was swimming in cooking oil. It was so bad that the white paper was see through and the brown paper bag the food was in was saturated. Sorry but that's not on .

Went last night ordered two pie and chips curry sauce and peas pies was cold inside and chips not very warm at all ! Been here years first time had a not great meal

Got to say I was really disappointed after such good feedback nicely presented boxes even the curry sauce was nice but for the extortionate cost the chips were awful small sliced soggy the fish was large but tasted over cooked the batter was rock solid will not be returning and wouldn’t recommend anyone else to either

1st visit ever, and it will definitely not be our last. Quality of food great and portion size is huge. Counting down the days till I can't be bothered to cook again 😆

Tonight was the 1st time in over 10 years I have been to this takeaway but it certainly won't be that long again. Despite being very busy staff were still very polite and confirmed the order whilst packing there was no wait time at all really. Most of all, that was by a country mile the best piece of cod I can remember having, flavourful, flakey and coated in a nice crisp golden batter that is not greasy at all. The chips were fantastic and the mushy peas topped it all off magnificently. The 3 members of my family that had a meal have all agreed this is the best quality takeaway and will in future be going straight here. I look forward to sampling the kebabs and burgers at some point.

Poor service. Rude staff. Called to talk through an incorrect order received but hear them talking about my husband in the background. Pass a number of chip shops to go here. Not again. Not only was the order wrong, the food was cold.

I was at John Hunt's Comp. Quality then and Ye Olde V.F continue the quality. Sorry, but a good chippy is hard to come by...

Ye Olde Victorian Fryer is probably the best Fish and Chip Shop I have ever used. The cod has beautiful batter and the fish literally melts in your mouth with chips that, which in my opinion, are cooked to perfection. This combined with excellent service is means we keep going back. Give them a try, if you like proper fish and chips, you'll love these!

Just had THE best fish and chips since lockdown started. Phoned order in and collected 20mins later. Staff are promoting social distancing, although some customers could do with following the rules much better!! Welcome back YOVF, super quality as we have come to expect over the years.

The Victorian fryer is a great chip shop, at work we order every week and when the orders hit high numbers like 10/11 they are really quick to accommodate this and can do these in bulk (not saying everyone should do this :) ) the chips are great our common purchase at work is chips with jumbo sausage or chips with burger. Would recommend traveling to this chippy if your local is no good.
