Food is decent but the portions are ridiculously bad. I ordered chicken goujons and they were 80% greasy batter, 20% chicken.

While others are fighting for the top spot there is some competition for the worst chippie in Northern Ireland. You'd be excused to probably believe a place in Carrickfergus could make chips but no, these are what I can only class as minging. Stuck together sweaty oily mess. A mere smattering of them too alongside 2 dried up sausages that look like they've been out all day. £7+ for this???? Should be utterly ashamed. Avoid like a thing you'd not want to be near.

First time here today and only got a battered sausage to try....was wrapped in paper and no tray, not even one chip on the side...wasn't offered salt or vinegar and the batter was thin greasy and more like a crumble....glad I didn't spend any more

A long established business in carrickfergus, quality and quantity in my mind has always been high, cost is on power with other establishments in the town. Staff polite and efficient.

This was always my go-to for brilliant fish & chips.They've changed their batter recipe & it's now dreadful.

We ordered 2 American hot dogs and nuggets with potatoes. Paid £24. It turned out that American hot dogs are not American at all, they put almost 1 kg of fries, and only 3 nuggets. The daughter was upset. The ketchup for the potatoes was ours, we had to buy it in the store, without it the potatoes are not tasty, they didn’t put napkins or offer them

They have gone downhill over the past few weeks! The fish are pre-fried so when you order, you no longer get a ‘fresh’ fish. The fish look and taste as if they’ve been re-fried a few times. The flesh is grey and tough and the batter overdone. I’ve had it with them, now to find somewhere else…

First time here yesterday Saturday 27th April. When opened our meal it was saturated in oil. Very disappointed. I certainly won't be back again.

Pretty much the best chippy in carrick. Good traditional fish and chips, other options are available. The queue speaks for itself. Great chippy.

The chicken goujons let this place down but everything else is superb! Not very much chicken in the goujons mostly batter. But lovely pink pasties, golden chips and fish full of cod with lovely batter.

Cost, prohibitive. Go to Sainsburys and buy 2 x large beer battered fresh cod fillets for £5.25 and save your money.

Not what it used to be, the last owners would of went that extra bit further to keep you happy, if you asked for a pastie bap they give you a few free chips extra, it's something small but goes a long way with costumer's, chip buddy, ya got a full chip with the bap, not now, had a 2 year old that would only eat a bout 3 chips, asked could he throw a few chips in just for a child and I would pay for the few, and was made to buy an extra kids meal that never got ate, the food was nice but don't think I'll be back, too expensive and the owner is tight when it comes to food and money, probably why he's a millionaire

We use this chippie occasionally, the portions are always small compared to other places but quality is always decent, bought a fish supper and a sausage supper, far more expensive than Dillinger’s just up the road, when my order was ready I picked up the bag and I said are you sure that’s everything as the bag was so light, the girl checked and said yes, anyway when I got home we literally had the smallest portions of food ever, literally not enough chips to make a butty, I phoned and spoke to the owner and was simply told everyone gets the same portions , wish i had of taken a photo, four chips with the fish. Total joke and will never be back

Given that the Hot Spot has about 8 staff and the place is always rammed with people will speak a thousand words on the quality of their food. I'm nearly 100% positive you will not be able to find anything here that's not really nice. Try the pastie bap, epic 👌

Food was nice but portions very small with a chip buttie costing more than a chip you expect a normal chip portion with the added cost of the bap and not in a burger box. Nearly 4 quid. At the price charged for a pastie you would throw a few chips in, was lit a single pastie. I know it's not a requirement but it's a nice touch. Like I said food was lovely for what it was but it would put you off returning if not value for money in these times of cost of living

The quality and even the frying of the fish has deteriated in this fish and chip shop we know prices are going up but dont sell smaller sub standard fish in burnt batter its a laugh!

What a fabulous place this is for gluten free fish and chips! Huge portions and not at all greasy - absolutely delicious.

A bit more expensive than other Chippy’s but in my opinion it’s worth every penny. Nicest pasties around.

Average food, highly priced. Have went in a few times 15 or 20 minutes before they closed and have been told I could only have what was already cooked.

Good service with a smile a bit chaotic at serving point but eventually got the hang of it Enjoyed my pastie supper and onion rings all in all a good experience

Food is beautiful but seriously overpriced! Paid £3.50 for a chip and it was ridiculously small, I think when people order a chip they for £3.50 they expect more than 2 potatoes worth. Shocking amount to hand someone!

Very poor service, the quality of the meals is poor, staff seem overworked and underpaid, they appear to go through new staff every few weeks. The chips are undercooked and I asked for no salt and vinegar and it was covered in it. The delivery service took over an hour for 3 mile drive, food arrived cold, the person on the phone did their job well, however I cannot recommend to go here and I would personally recommend to go to Dillinger's or Sunnylands chippy as service is much superior. The owner was rude and bossy when I complained about my order and I could hear him shout at his own staff over the phone. Very underwhelming

Being carry out only, we had to drive 30 min back to our bnb and by the time we got there the fish & chips were cold & soggy. That's really not their fault, however they asked if we wanted malt vinegar & instead of giving us some to use, they went ahead and put it on the food, contributing to the soggy. We had fish and chips several times in NI and this was our least favorite. If I had time & a close place (or nice weather to eat outside) I might give them another try.

Drove from Greenisland to Carrick to use these premises as, despite being exorbitant price wise, the food is adequate albeit with miniscule portions. I'd have surmised that a sausage supper and a chip butty with a battered sausage would have been a fairly standard order for a chippy so didn't bother checking my order before leaving as I would do if I had been served by the troglodytes at McDonald's. But oh no, when I got as far as unwrapping the food I discovered I'd paid just under fifteen quid for a chip and a chip butty. Standards and portion sizes have been dropping rapidly of late and this is the final straw. The rapid increase in the price of fuel makes this even more of a slap in the face. Do yourselves a favour and use Dillingers or Sunnylands chippy. More reasonably priced, better portions and they understand that a sausage supper comes with sausages.

Clean, efficient chippy with helpful staff and great variety.

I got the lunchtime pastie special, I asked for a small sprinkle of salt and lot's of vinegar, it came out the complete opposite. The portion of chips was very small also so if you're hungry get a normal portion and not the special.

Excellent as always Freshly prepared, tasty and wholesome, as well as value for money, (even with increasing prices). Recommend taking to Fisherman's Quay nearby to watch the Lough activity. (Slightly less so at the moment, due to renovation work, but still possible to park and eat).

Food is always great quality from this place. Very popular chippy and well worth a visit.

£3.30 for chips.....put that into context, 2 medium potatoes chopped up and fried to the tune of £3.30!!! I live in central London (from Carrick originally and get a Victoria chippy everytime I go home to see family), my nearest chippy in central London which is a takeaway and proper fish & chips restaurant (imagine the overhead costs) charges £2 for standard and £3 for large chips. The large is easily twice the amount from that served from Victoria chippy. Unbelievable

Most expensive chippy in Carrick and too tight to put some chips in with their over priced fish.

The Cod was whiting and very small, the chips wernt cooked right thru. Very disappointing.

Popped in for a quick lunch and the place looked clean and tidy. I wasn’t really keen on the food though - a bit too greasy for my taste even though it’s a chippy but must just be me cause there are plenty of good reviews on here.

Well worth a drive out for a nice tea or supper, then a drive to the pier and the veiws.

Although my curried chips were nice it was a messy eat....no forks!!! Not everyone is taking their food home guys.

Last time I had an order here it was wrong the owner delivered the missing items. So to night thought we would give it another go. Rang and placed order and called down to collect. There was a fish beside my bag, the girl looked through and checked my order twice no it was not mine. When I got home the chips were missing, what a disappointment and I had paid for them on the receipt. I could not get through on the phone so another trip down. I will not be going back. There is plenty of staff but they just seem to get in each other’s way.

Parts of the order missing so had to return to get what Id actually paid for. Used to be one of the best chippies in Carrick, now it seems to have gradually become worse & worse. Chips were soggy and undercooked. Basic burger was swimmimg in sauce. On openning burger to remove some of the sauce I disovered a large slice of pineapple in the burger, luckily I hadnt bit into it yet cos I wouldve tasted really weird combination.

Efficient service - order, then can wait in car or outside chippy until number called. Chips were great but unfortunately on this occasion more batter than cod...
