Comprehensive museum that shows the British approach to collecting art. Also a temporary exhibition on the national Naomi, in the section dedicated to costume, very well curated like the whole V&A. But also an original Bernini marble. Don't miss the plaster cast gallery, made in the 19th century and still perfectly preserved, without the dust that floods the plaster casts in our country. The life-size cast of Trajan's column (in two sections) and the portals of S. Petronio and S. Giacomo Compostela are incredible.

Decided on an impromptu visit with the kids (teenagers). They loved it, particularly the large statues and stonework replicas. The place is a bit of a maze but well worth a visit with lots to see and if you're there on a sunny day we even saw paddlers in the pond in the courtyard relieving some tired feet (mainly kids!)

The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) is one of London’s most prestigious cultural institutions, offering an expansive and varied collection of art, design, and cultural history from across the world. Whether you’re an art enthusiast, design lover, or history buff, there’s something here for everyone. A standout piece for me is The Wreck by Norwegian artist Knudsen Baade. This work captures the raw emotion and power of human struggle against nature, drawing on themes of tragedy and resilience. Baade’s mastery in depicting the dramatic chaos of the wreck is visceral, with the turbulent scene conveying a sense of disarray and intensity. The meticulous details, particularly in the use of light and shadow, create an almost overwhelming feeling of destruction, while also evoking the strength and determination of those involved. The piece’s impact stays with you long after you’ve left the gallery, serving as a testament to the artist’s ability to transform a historical tragedy into a powerful work of art. Beyond The Wreck, the V&A offers a vast range of art and design that spans centuries and cultures. The museum’s British Galleries are an exceptional exploration of the evolution of design, from medieval craftsmanship to the sleek modernity of the 20th century. The intricate period rooms, filled with beautiful furniture, ceramics, and tapestries, provide a window into historical life, giving visitors the chance to step into the past and experience the aesthetics of different eras. The V&A’s Fashion Gallery is another favorite of mine, offering an in-depth look at the evolution of fashion, showcasing iconic designers like Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood. The fashion collections serve not only as a celebration of craftsmanship but also as a reflection of broader social and cultural shifts. The museum also boasts an incredible collection of Islamic Art, which is one of the largest and most important in the world. The exquisite detail in the carpets, ceramics, and calligraphy is truly mesmerizing and offers an important cultural context for understanding Islamic history and its artistic achievements. What I love most about the V&A is its ability to combine accessibility with scholarly depth. Whether you’re an expert or just visiting for the first time, the museum’s exhibitions provide a rich, engaging experience for all. The staff are knowledgeable and always available to share their insights, deepening your understanding of the works on display. The architecture of the V&A itself is also something to behold, with grand galleries, sweeping staircases, and the magnificent courtyard that offer an inspiring environment for viewing art. Whether you’re exploring the galleries or relaxing at the museum’s café, the V&A provides a welcoming and enriching experience. Overall, the V&A is a must-visit for anyone in London. Its extensive collections, fascinating exhibitions, and beautiful setting make it one of the most rewarding art spaces in the world. Whether you’re interested in historical artifacts, contemporary design, or cultural art, the V&A has something that will leave you inspired and with a deeper appreciation for the world of art.

The Great Mughal art at V & A exhibition. I was under the impression that there would be informative material about Mughal emperors. And indeed there were descriptions about 3 of them - Akbar the great, Jahangir and Shahjahan. Apart from a very brief description that the dynasty was Mongolian and created by Halagu Khan and Amir Tamur, there was not much at all about other Mughal emperors. How did British take over the empire from them was not to be found at all! The fact that India under Mughals was the largest economy of the world before British took over was not even mentioned. It looked like that the exhibition was mostly about what art pieces V & A had of around that time, rather than a carefully exhibited educational stuff or anything else. And there were some obvious mistakes! The story “Hamza Nama” was actually an Arab story with some Persian characters in it. It had nothing to do with Mughals. Yet this is exactly was welcomed us as we entered the exhibition in the form of multiple art pieces. There were some translation mistakes too. For example “Hunar mand” would be much better translated as “skillful” and not “artist”, as was claimed in one of the art pieces as a title given to someone. There was very little in terms of ladies of Mughal empire who played a great role in history. For example Noor Jehan, Mumtaz Mahal and mother of Emperor Akbar who looked after the empire when he suddenly found himself on the throne at the tender young age of a boy. There were many important historical details conspicuous by their omission. For example, there was nothing about the great “9 Ratan” who practically ran the government of an illiterate but a very clever emperor Akbar. There was none about his new religion “Deen e Ilahi, and how he tried to bring Hindus and Muslims together including marrying into Hindu families. Overall, a great subject to have an exhibition about, but disappointingly very little relevant material on exhibit.

The Victoria and Albert Museum (abbreviated V&A) in London is the world's largest museum of applied arts, decorative arts and design, housing a permanent collection of over 2.8 million objects. It was founded in 1852 and named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The V&A is in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, in an area known as "Albertopolis" because of its association with Prince Albert, the Albert Memorial, and the major cultural institutions with which he was associated. These include the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, the Royal Albert Hall and Imperial College London. The museum is a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. As with other national British museums, entrance is free. The V&A covers 12.5 acres (5.1 ha) and 145 galleries. Its collection spans 5,000 years of art, from ancient history to the present day, from the cultures of Europe, North America, Asia and North Africa. However, the art of antiquity in most areas is not collected. The holdings of ceramics, glass, textiles, costumes, silver, ironwork, jewellery, furniture, medieval objects, sculpture, prints and printmaking, drawings and photographs are among the largest and most comprehensive in the world. The museum owns the world's largest collection of post-classical sculpture, with the holdings of Italian Renaissance sculpture being the largest outside Italy. The departments of Asia include art from South Asia, China, Japan, Korea and the Islamic world. The East Asian collections are among the best in Europe, with particular strengths in ceramics and metalwork, while the Islamic collection is amongst the largest in the Western world. Overall, it is one of the largest museums in the world. Since 2001 the museum has embarked on a major £150m renovation programme. The new European galleries for the 17th century and the 18th century were opened on 9 December 2015. These restored the original Aston Webb interiors and host the European collections 1600–1815. The Young V&A in east London is a branch of the museum, and a new branch in London – V&A East – is being planned.[8] The first V&A museum outside London, V&A Dundee opened on 15 September 2018. Visit a world of creativity in the heart of London. V&A South Kensington offers unmissable exhibitions and experiences for all. One of London's most iconic buildings, V&A South Kensington is home to national collections of art, design, fashion, photography and furniture to theatre, performance, architecture and ceramics, as well as the UK's National Art Library. It is a place where everyone can experience a story of creativity that spans 5,000 years and every creative discipline, which brings that story to life through programmes and activities for all ages and specialisms, and world-leading research and conservation. V&A South Kensington is open seven days a week. General admission is free and you don’t need to book. What is there to see at V&A South Kensington? V&A South Kensington’s permanent collection contains 2.8 million objects. You’ll find examples of architecture, painting, sculpture, fashion, textiles, ceramics and jewellery from around the world. Just some of the highlights of the museum include the Photography Centre and the Cast Courts, where you’ll find copies of Michelangelo’s David and Trajan’s Column. You should also drop by The Raphael Cartoons, showcasing seven full-scale tapestry designs by the Renaissance master for the Sistine Chapel. The V&A’s blockbuster temporary exhibitions are among some of the most popular in London. Recent hit shows include displays showcasing Gabrielle Chanel, Tim Walker and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

I liked your museum with my tour guide until we got to the section with Taj Mahal artifacts. I remember how dismissive the tour guide was when it came to the display case. I asked how the museum acquired such artifacts especially when were were informed on the other artifacts and their background and missing pieces in the collections. The answer to my question was "As you know the British occupied many territories and these were donated from the British etc later." On a final note, they ended with "However our museum is open and free at no cost". While a museum is free I don't think that because it is free it should be advertised as a means to excuse the past. I believe in this opinion as the fact is that a trip to the UK is expensive. While I've looked into how the V&A is donating some artifacts with similar pasts I find it sad that the prejudice still exists in some areas of the museum staff. Besides this fact the museum was amazing to visit, the tours were outstanding (ie excluding this instance), and I think you'll enjoy visiting this place under the best circumstances. I do think that you should find the time to still go to the museum as you'll still enjoy it if it ain't clear. Don't let my one bad experience outshine the place because despite that bump in the road, me and my mom had the best time seeing everything else :-).

I am 96yrs old Jamaican Granny. My granddaughter became a member of the V&As because she wanted to make the most of the Naomi Campbell exhibition. Essentially, her new membership should entitle her to a safe environment and kindly received in all spaces of the museum. But the Members bar has staff who have treated my gentle granddaughter with discrimination several times over. The last time the treatment by Members staff was so bad that her friends couldn't 'Suck It Up', and had to leave as they refused to be subjected to ill treatment. Taking my granddaughter with them. The continued negative experiences are made far worse due to having the museum celebrating an excellent woman of Afro-Caribbean decent with respect, whilst moments later, for my granddaughter and friends not be treated with common good within the same building. It is a sad day when my children's, children are treated poorly by others because they look different. I wanted to leave this earth knowing that more spaces are accepting of my legacy. But instead l have to be writing reviews in the hope that others are held to account to try and do much better. Please fix your Members bar staff and their outdated, hurtful and disrespectful attitude.

Visiting to see the Great Mughals exhibition which is spectacular but also took in the early medieval gallery and the Trajan's column cast. If you think it is just decorative arts at the V&A, there are a few gems for fans of antiquity and post- Roman Europe that might well be the sort of thing you would expect at the British museum, so don't overlook the V&A if you are an ancient world buff. Ivories, migration era ornamental metalwork, a tomb relief from Palmyra - not to mention that the cast of Trajan's Column has not been standing in the Roman pollution since the dawn of the industrial revolution so is in a better state ( and you can get closer) than the original.

The museum, which was established as a result of the British royal interest in art, contains many valuable works of art, as well as replicas and reproductions of world-famous renaissance works. You can see many art students working in the museum. Do not leave without seeing Bellini's Fatih Sultan Mehmed Khan Portrait and Fatih medallions, which are a must-see and are exhibited in a not-so-remarkable corner of the museum. (Exhibited in Floor 1, Hall 63.) There are also Turkish works in the museum, some of which were gifted to Suleiman the Magnificent, Abdulaziz and Abdulhamid Khan, and are also exhibited in the museum. The giant bronze door hook from the Bursa Ulu Mosque door during the reign of Bayezid I is also in the museum. It is interesting how it went to London! Since 2001, this London museum has been undergoing renovation, which includes new galleries, attractive gardens and souvenir shops. The Victoria and Albert Museum in London has 145 galleries, but the collections are so large that only a small percentage are on display. Here are some reasons why it is worth visiting this unique place: A wide range of exhibitions - from applied art to design masterpieces, everyone will find something for themselves. Unique collections – the collected objects come from different parts of the world, which gives you the opportunity to learn about cultural diversity. It is also worth paying attention to the architecture of the museum itself. Beautifully designed rooms and courtyards become part of the visit experience. Very interesting museum on different eras and countries. It is not necessarily noticeable from the outside but it is huge. I therefore recommend to target only what interests you as a priority. Because to be honest, barely finished the floor 0 and -1, the fatigue will already be felt well. It is therefore a museum to do in several times if possible. But do not miss it...

What a fantastic museum, so much to look at, any description I wrote here would not do it justice. The World's finest collection of decorative arts. The café is beautiful, just seeing that makes it worth a visit. Easy access from South Kensington tube station and entry is FREE.

Forever my favourite museum in London. It has a lot of sculpture, but it also has a bit of everything. The truth is that it never disappoints. The paid exhibitions are few and not very notable. The museum has four floors and it is impossible to see everything in a moment, it is incredible. My only complaint is the closing time, but it is the same in all museums. I would go back a thousand times.

Amazing place. But please don’t eat at the cafe, I got food poisoning from brioche egg sandwich. Had to cancel my entire plan for the weekend. Ended up in a hospital.

Surprising free museum, as recommended as the British, but not as famous, and of course less crowded. Recommended to visit the cafeteria The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London is one of the most important and prestigious museums in the world, dedicated to art, design and fashion. Its origins date back to the mid-19th century, when it was founded in 1852 by Queen Victoria in memory of her late husband, Prince Albert, who was a great supporter of the arts and design. The museum was initially established as part of an effort to educate the public and improve the quality of industrial design in the United Kingdom. The collection began with a series of objects from the Great Exhibition of 1851, an event organized by Prince Albert to showcase the achievements of design and industry from around the world. Over the years, the museum expanded its collection, encompassing a vast range of objects, including sculptures, textiles, furniture, ceramics, jewelry, costumes, and much more, from ancient times to the present day. In 1909, the V&A moved to its current location in South Kensington, in a building designed by architects Aston Webb and Ingress Bell. The museum has continued to evolve and expand its collection, becoming a global reference in the conservation of design and in the teaching of the history of art and design through its exhibitions, research and educational programs. Today, the Victoria and Albert Museum is not only a landmark for art and design lovers, but also a cultural meeting point that welcomes thousands of visitors each year, with a rich program of temporary exhibitions and events related to creativity and cultural heritage.

A great museum. Don't buy lunch there a bit pricey. Coffee and dessert are reasonably enough.
