Venus Foods Ltd in Leeds

Chosen this place due to cheapness and reviews; found it highly disappointing. Firstly, it was a typical kebab shop with plenty of kitchen staff (all chatting to one another) and a very surly person who manned the orders at the front counter. Didn't expect it to not have table service as they classed themselves a restaurant. The person was very short on manners (no please or thank you). (Originally, I wanted to see a menu, but there were none on the numerous tables, only one on the counter, so had pressure to order quickly. Couldn't see any guvec/stews which I would have liked, so chosen a mixed kebab at £14.50 (chicken/lamb shish and kofte, chips and salad/pickles). I ordered an Esme as well as I wanted a nice sauce to go with it (didn't fancy the cheap help yourself sauces of chilli/mayo/yoghurt) at £5.90. Asked for rice instead of chips and asked for lots of salad. After 10 minutes, the Esme arrived prepared still wrapped in clingfilm with a basket of small/medium bread. This tasted okay, but was overpriced for a dish that was more like a dip. Then, the kebab came on this ridiculously narrow horizontal place. The rice was a very small portion, with bits of chopped up salad and a few pickles. Tried the chicken and to my horror, it was undercooked as it the texture wasn't right. I cut up the rest of the chicken pieces, and to look at it, it looked cooked. I couldn't risk eating this. So, I went onto the lamb shish - this also was difficult to chew as it was all but two out of 6 pieces were slightly red in the middle. I was too afraid to speak up about the undercooked meat for fear of them making a fuss/get angry with me. I left and paid an expensive meal that I'll never ever resort to pay again at this so-called restaurant. Readers: beware of your meat before you eat!!!

The food is fantastic. Everything that we tried was amazing. Just one lady who serves us is always unpleasant. Every time we want to come in, she makes us feel we don't want to come back. We do not expect to pretend a smile but manners and good customer service could really help to make feel customer comftabe and come back again. The other staff is amazing! Just small things are very important and you should consider it. Thanks.

Really good quality food and a surprisingly good supermarket next door. Theres plenty on the menu to choose from and the drinks selection in the supermarket is massive. Only gripe is that the staff could be a bit friendlier. Will definitely return again.

Average food. We went after seeing all the hype on social media. Food is average, meat was very fatty. Staff unwelcoming. Wouldn’t recommend.

All I can say about this place is the food is absolutely incredible. I had the mixed Kebab and the chicken and lamb were perfectly cooked and juicy. If you are in Holbeck and feeling hungry please go and have a gastronomical experience.

Last night for a quick bite we went to Venus, we go to venus probably once a fortnight in the summer as it represents excellent value. The last two visits have been a little less comfortable probably down to the timing as we do arrive toward the end of service but last night we were made to feel very unwelcome and that it was a problem us even being there. We were quite late on (coming upto 8 o'clock and if you know Venus you know your choice is restricted as they sell out of popular items, this is fine with us as there is always something good. Order having been placed it was time to sit down, it was sunny outside so chose to go there, this is where it went wrong, the serving gentleman did not want us to sit just about anywhere, he kept removing chairs and saying not allowed even though people were still outside and infact still arriving. Anyhow, it won't be a problem as we will not be going again. That is a pity as we like the food but that behaviour from one person was unacceptable.

Clearly gaining notoriety on social media by being attached to the supermarket The videos you see gives the impression that you can only enter through the supermarket and it likes a hidden gem However, the restaurant and take away is literally beside the restaurant, has its own separate entrance (as well as the one via the supermarket) and is no unique than half the cash and carry’s that have their own onsite restaurant Disappointedly, they weren’t serving donner’s when we visited Whether that is because they were £4 cheaper than the shish’s they offered instead is up for debate Don’t expect service with a smile here, we didn’t and wasn’t judging the place on that The decor was typical cafe style Place was clean and popular when we visited Food wise, portions are good, taste is definitely there with that distinct charcoal flavour And the bread that accompanies the meal is the size of your head All in all, it wasn’t bad Was it that great that I would go out of my way to visit (if wasn’t visiting Bellend Road)? Probably not

Saw some posts on Instagram. Went to look round the supermarket and stopped for food next door. Delicious, large portions, tasty food, fresh salad and golden pide. Left super full and happy. Planning out next visit!

Previously rated as 3 star due to running out early, but now can see the reason. Food is always fresh that day so kebab hench why so tasty. Leaving out over night will spoil the experience. If you don,t want to be disappointed like you was then give yourself more time or try one of the other tasty items. My only choice now for Kebabs in South Leeds.

Still can’t believe there is a Turkish place like this in Leeds! While it’s fairly simple and can be classed as fast food, it tastes delightful - the kebabs are excellent, the bread is delicious and the sides too! I can’t wait to come back and try more dishes!

I bought cheesecake from venus market today, I was happy when I bought it, but after I got home, when I was taking it out of the package, I realized that there was MOLD ON THE CAKE. IT IS OFFICIALLY DISAPPOINTING AND HARMFUL TO HUMAN HEALTH! be careful when buying something.

We have been visiting Venus for several years and always had great food, recommend every time. While not well advertised, the starters are really good.

I went with our Turkish friends. We found the food of poor quality. The bread was barely edible. It was disapointing as we know what it is supposed to be like. The chips - they were frozen-reheated from a packet, seemed like a cheap quality. Meat -shish kebap was ok. The place didn't feel clean - none of the tables had been cleaned when we arrived - had to push others' cutlery away. The staff go out to smoke and then come in and cook your food - no handwashing in between! If that's what they do in front you, I wonder what they do when you aren't htere. I love Turkish food but not going back to this place again.

The supermarket selection is good, nice looking. Not the cheapest, but one of the tidiest and brightest. We also tried to have some food, late morning, before noon. We wanted Turkish breakfast, but he indicated that they no longer have Turkish breakfast, I am not sure why due to their limited English. We then wanted the grilled fish, which is also not available till at least mid afternoon, and they also cannot explain what fish it is, due to limited English. We finally settled on some sarma and chicken doner. The sarma were good quality, better than some other Turkish restaurant. The doner were well cooked, generous, and tasty. I wish I could have swapped chips for rice or bulgur, but it wasn't clear that was possible.

Rude women at the bakery speaks her own language to herself with a face on when serving you so you don't understand what she is saying! Guess she wasn't muttering nice things about me and my family!

Recently visited venus in Leeds, had their mixed meat meal! Absolutely fantastic! Their staff came across as moody, so that is something they could and should work on. Other than that, loved it!

Visited the supermarket first, which had a massive variety of foodstuffs. Then the Restaurant, we all had chicken kebabs, they were fabulous. Chicken done to perfection, the salad was great, the bread was to die for. Will definitely go again.

Poor service, negative attitude of staff!!   I used to like venus and have been here multiple times. Unfortunately, due to my latest experience, I will not go back anytime soon. As service has become terrible. Staff were far from friendly, arrogant and had too...

Just give it a go.. you will be back time and time again. The amount of people we have introduced who said really...then went and now go every week.... just try it.. the chicken shish kebabs are bang on!! Not many like it in Leeds...

The food is nice and service is swift. Chicken doner is a little on the bland side. The lamb doner, fish or the mixed kebab are the better options. You will pay between £9-12 per person. They do take card payments. Would go again.

One of the best things about going on holiday is the food and this place brings all that to you on your doorstep. Really authentic, hand cooked food which makes you feel like you could be on a beach in Turkey! Food is a decent price but the portions could be a little bigger as this sometimes varies. The bread is amazing though. Will continue to tell my family to come here as it’s amazing!

Been there with the family and ordered some food ... the SIZE OF PORTIONS they serve for £8 and £10 kebabs is HORRENDOUS!! My Mrs and I was still hungry after we finished the food ! Extremely poor value of money there !! I know at least 5 other Turkish , Kurdish and Indian / Pakistani restaurant in Leeds city where they offer better food and Better value for money portions ! I AM GIVING THIS SORT OF SERVICE AND FOOD 0 star !! Respect customers who pay such much for the food !! Serve them that they can at least go full tummy !!

Nuestra primera visita hoy y no será la última que llegó justo después de las 12. En punto, el lugar estaba medio lleno y los clientes hacían cola para sentarse y llevar comida, una buena señal, una gran selección de platos servidos con ensalada y si comían una porción gratis de papas fritas y trozos de pan recién horneado, ambos fuimos por el pollo shish dos. He estado mucho en Venus, tanto por el supermercado como por la comida. Ayer fue un hermoso día soleado y nos las arreglamos para conseguir una mesa afuera, cada mesa estaba llena de grandes grupos familiares, lo que fue un placer ver. Tuvimos que esperar un poco por la comida, pero estaba muy ocupado y estábamos bajo el sol con un Efes, así que no fue un problema. La comida era encantadora, como siempre. Definitivamente iré de nuevo.

Desde que estuvimos de vacaciones en Turquía el año pasado, he estado a la caza de los kebabs mixtos, los pides y el doner tan buenos como los que tengo en Turquía. Me alegra decir que lo he encontrado.

Lovely visit here today with family. The mixed kebab was huge and the lamb and chicken was tasty and tender. Been a few years since I have visited and yes the prices have increased but still good value for money. Always worth a look around the supermarket too!

Great food large portions.would highly recommend.also the supermarket side does great fresh bachlava.

It has become a bit of a tradition at my office to visit this place at lunchtime. Whereas the food is ok-ish I feel the prices are very high compared to the quality of the food. On one occasion I ordered and was told only menu items were available, when I was clearly requesting something on the menu, on another occasion I ordered a chicken burger and got what was clearly processed garbage, not real chicken breast and on the final occasion (and it will be the final occasion), I ordered lamb ribs and got sticks of fat, in effect the most expensive chip butty I have ever had.

If you’re looking for palatial restaurant with fresh pressed linen, gleaming glassware and waiter service then this is not the place for you. If however you are looking for amazing flavours, freshly cooked mouthwatering Turkish kebabs, Pide and Baklava then you have found a real gem here.

Lo visité con mi familia justo antes de ir a la escuela como una delicia, ya que los precios son altos para un bocado rápido. Cordero estaba bien preparado, pero nunca imaginó su ensalada, un poco seco. El pan turco era sabroso. La tienda de al lado está bien abastecida para alimentos delicatessen si está dispuesto a pagar el precio de venta. Bueno para compras irregulares pero nos gusta. Vale la pena degustar su menú, ya que tienen mucha variedad. ¡Buen provecho! !

This is a great little cafe serving great Turkish food. Brilliant place for a local, sit down meal before the match. Alll freshly cooked to order. The Aubergine Kebab I ordered this time was great!

Paid for 8 wings and got 7. When I politely raised the issue they just passive aggressively laughed and basically refused. Nice, can only imagine if I grabbed a can of coke and just refused to pay. AVOID AVOID AVOID

Venus continues to grow and improve. They have extended their product range, but the most noticeable thing is how they have renovated the restaurant which is looking very nice and includes pleasant outdoor areas to eat. Food fresh, delicious & amazing as always. Very valuable part of the neighbourhood. Staff friendly, professional and knowledgeable. One of my favourite places to eat in Leeds.

Dropped off daughter at station and decided to try out this place. No regrets great little supermarket. Tried the takaway. Not posh but excellent value for money. Tried the chops and kofta kebab.. Nice bread and excellent quantity of chops. Better than the big chain burger places. Will definately be calling again to try more of the menu

Me and my friend went to the restaurant on sunday evening and when we arrived no one approached us. Waited for 10 minutes . The staffs in the kitchen were rolling their eyes up that we were there because it was busy. So one of the guys in the kitchen started yelling at other staff in turkish to get rid of us. When I asked them to get a table, everyone was giving me a different time frame to wait. One said 2 hours and the other said 10 minutes. Very rude staff and awful environment. So we left.

Tuve Venus me recomendaron de varias personas y hoy decidí hace años. No me decepcionó. La comida es absolutamente fantástico. Tuve el shish kebab y mi esposa tenía el kebab mezclado. Ambos venían con patatas, pan y ensalada y sin llenar incluso la gente más hambriento ya que las porciones son abundantes. Nos dieron dos botellas de gaseosa con nuestras comidas y llegó a alrededor de £16. 50 que no es el más barato para kebabs, pero la calidad y cantidad más que justificado el precio. Volveré sobre una base regular de ahora en adelante.

We discovered the supermarket a while ago & decided to return to eat in their cafe on a sunny Saturday lunchtime.All the meats are grilled to perfection on their charcoal grill & the breads are freshly baked.Both our kebabs were delicious, served with chips & crisp salad. Just like being in Turkey.

I go with my kids frequently. The grill is so good and the taste is magic. The prices are very reasonable !I really recommend it for trying genuine Turkish grill.

Having enjoyed traditional turkish food on several holidays, if i get chance whilst away on work i always try any turkish restaurants if i am staying away. What a hidden gem this is tucked away in what apears to be a fairly run down area of inner city south Leeds is a supermarket with a cafe attached on the side. Well let me tell you this cafe serves the best freshly cooked turkish i have found in britain.So having eaten in numerous turkish restaurants from London to Edingburgh and from medium price to expensive - by far the best i have found is a "cafe" attached to a supermarket in inner city south Leeds with the main courses about £7-10 !Keep up the good work and please dont change. Thank you for the great food i will be back.

Whenever I go and try to order the only 2 vegetarian options on the menu I am told they are not available on that day. Poor service and false advertising.

Have visited here many times and never been disappointed. We have sampled many of the dishes from their menu but our favourite is the mixed kebab, rice and a side of hummus. The staff are really friendly and can't do enough for you. We have been to many Turkish restaurants and this has to one of the best and value for money. Definitely worth a try!

if you are looking for a authentic food from Turkey , Iran , Iraq or nearing countries this supermarket is the one to visit . you can find anything that you cant in your local supermarket

Went here after work to get a good halal take away ended up siting down to eat Food was advertised and looked different on plate but taste was good We had Turkish tea which was also good The people serving food were not clear with instructions on where to get cutlery etc so had to ask several times for things ... But it is not expensive and if you are just looking for good sold take away kabab meal and this is recommended

If you would like a proper Turkish kebab this is the place to go. Lamb or pressed together in home made Turkish bread. All served with salad and chips. Unfortunately the staff are good at cooking but not cleaning. I saw a woman cleaning her table with baby wipes. The floor needed a good sweep and I dare not venture towards the toilet. It is what it is.

Been here a few times, food tends to be really good, however last 3 times asked for rice and the waiter says 'its finished' also one time came to eat and they made me wait for half hour only to tell me the thing i ordered was finished, real shame about the service considering the food is decent

Wasnt looking forward to this as a colleague wanted us to go. I have driven past this place hundreds of times and never given it a thought. It was AMAZING!!! the food was unbelievable, the portions were ridiculously big and the prices really reasonable. The best lamb chops I have ever eaten. Well worth a visit - we will be going back and soon. the salad was super fresh. If you eat in you get free chips and salad and tea is free.

Everything about the meal was incredible. The food was fresh, the sauces were incredible, the service was good. It's worth the trip out, these people definitely need a location in the city centre, they'd make a fortune!

My partner and I came here to hit up their shawarma and to visit their supermarket. The shawarma came in a delicious, freshly made flat bread, served with fries on the side and a dab of salad. The meat was lightly spiced, but delicately cooked and very succulent. The amount per portion is really too much for the normal person; but then, I'm not a normal person and I loved the huge quantity. The dining area - and the whole supermarket - was absolutely immaculate. It was a great experience overall and we will definitely come back for more

I even didn't know this place exist till my friend told me about it. We went as she recommended and we weren't disappointed. Food size bigger than average, price was very acceptable. Recommended to visit.

I visit Leeds every so often as I am a travelling NVQ assessor and call at a nearby company. Usually on Fridays when I finish my assessments I am quite hungry so I have in the past called to eat. The old Kwick save has been turned into a Turkish Supermarket that stocks most Greek and Turkish beers but the kebab section is the highlight as they cook over charcoal and all is done to order. Complementary fries are served with food if you eat in and ok so it is not the cheapest but it is the best I have had in the Yorkshire area. I would state that it even beats Murdocs or Zieka in Sheffield and I live in Sheffield so Venus is the highlight of my Leeds visits! Well done guys and keep up the good work.

Drove past a few times and always knew this would be a special place, I wasn't wrong!The kebabs couldn't be anymore authentic, to top it off there's not even a pitta bread in sight! Had the mixed kebab and wife had the chicken kebab. It's just like the real Turkish kebabs you get down south and not those poor imitations that the Asian folk here try to pass off.An added bonus is free chips if you choose to dine in. They also sell Efes in the supermarket which is a huge plus for me! Seriously can't find a bad thing to say about this place - we will be back very soon!!

I live locally and Venus is one of the highlights of South Leeds. It may not look like much - the building was a derelict Kwik Save until Venus moved in - but inside you'll find a well-stocked shop with products you don't get elsewhere. It's also very reasonably priced, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. The Turkish and Iranian yoghurts are probably my favourite thing from the shop, but I've bought all sorts; aside from a great mixture of products from Turkey, Iran, Poland, and other countries, the shop also has familiar UK household brands for some items - cleaning products, toiletries, etc.I sadly can't eat from the restaurant due to dietary restrictions, but it smells fantastic, and I've heard lots of good reports!

Fabulous authentic med food , great prices not a posh restaurant but worth it for the food. The place is also a supermarket to buy all the healthy food you just ate in the restaurant.

When you need those special ingredients for that Ottolenghi recipe visit the shop at Venus Foods is the place to find them e.g. Pomegranate molasses.Also small restaurant with Turkish food. The yogurt drink is lively.

Tucked away in Holbeck just outside the city centre this is a real hidden gem. This is a very basic looking supermarket and cafe and perhaps not overly appealing, but don't be fooled it serves amazing Turkish food in the cafe. I often drive over here to eat as I know the Kebabs are amazing. I have been to Turkey several time and the food is authentic. You can eat in or takeout. I prefer to eat in but it does get very busy and you may end up sharing a table. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are a good size. If you eat in you get bread, chips and salad with your Kebab. My personal favorite is the lamb kebab but they serve chicken kebabs, as well as chicken and lamb shawarma. They also have a tasty sauce that goes extremely well the kebabs. I like to drive yogurt with mine but have your usually soft drinks too.A bonus is the Turkish supermarket next door serves all manner of exotic products that you can't find in your regular supermarket. If you are after a proper tasty Kebab in Leeds this is the place to visit.

This is a supermarket with a cafe in Holbeck so not the place I would normally choose to eat! - However the food here is fresh and cooked to order, the kitchen is open so you can see everything going on and how clean it all is. The food is cooked over charcoal which I love. You can choose your different meats from the counter at the front, they cook it there and then. You get the kebabs served in Turkish Pide bread which again is freshly made. They also sell Turkish 'Pizza' made out of the Pide bread which look very tasty so looking forward to trying one of those.Prices are very reasonable, definitely worth checking out. And on a side note the supermarket is also worth a visit out for some more exotic ingredients to your usual Asda / Morrisons etc!

A friend from work told us about this gem that was located in the middle of holbeck , not a usual haunt or thoroughfare ! It's a delight as you enter and walk through a supermarket and deli full of wonders of the Turkish and Persian fayre. The smell of fresh bread and a charcoal grill is delightful. On entering the cafe area it's surprising how large it is catering for locals and workers alike. The choice is extensive and I am sure non menu options would happily be catered for. From Turkish delicacies , speciality pizzas , burgers and of course many kebab options the first timer is overwhelmed by choice. All 3 of us opted for the mixed kebab price at £8.90. Wow , what a portion of freshly cooked meat in a delightful Turkish pride bread, served with salad and chips. There was a long skewer of minced lamb , tender and spicy , large chunks of moist lamb and large pieces of grilled chicken breast. You need to be hungry to come here....the lentil soup that others were having looked a winner too with the fresh bread. Friendly service this place should not be overlooked and is certainly much more than a supermarket.

Food is fantastic. Can get busy on a lunch time and when this happens, service usually suffers but if you're not fussy about service and just want a great authentic Turkish kebab, this is place for you!

Work colleagues introduced me to Venus foods and whilst it might not look much from the outside the food is top rate.On the way home from Ikea I dropped in and shared a chicken kebab with my son, the portions are easily big enough for an adult and child to share. The chicken was cooked to order over charcoal and was tender and well flavored. This was served up in fresh toasted bread as opposed to a thin pitta bread. All this came with salad and fries. Add in a couple of drinks and two people are well fed for £10. I was really impressed and will be back again very soon. It might not look much from the outside but this is a great place for lunch.
