Dewan Restaurant in Leeds

This middle eastern gem was a great experience. There is available parking spaces close to the restaurant and the place itself was not overwhelmingly busy. The manager gave us lentil soup on the house (we were a huge group of people). Our server didn't make a mistake on our big order and the food was great. I recommend the Adana kebab, baklava with ice cream and their orange juice. Music suited the vibe of the interior and complimented the mood. The whole experience really took you to the Middle East.

Extremely rude staff. Manager is rude horrible impolite man.

Where do I start. The mixed hot starter was pretty underwhelming. The filo rolls were completely empty, thats right hollow, the meat appeared to have sprung out at some point of its production. The best part of the family platter was the lamb chops, as for the rest the meat was dry. The whole thing was sat on a kilo of fries. The rice was basically boiled rice, which you may call aldente, but was undercooked with a crush and I was presented more bread than a bakery. The bit which almost sent me to LGI was the mint and lemon jug; I have been eating turkish food for 3 decades and never have I experienced a drink which could give me an ulcer. Each sip took 5 minutes to recover. It was so sour it may have taken 5 years off my life, when telling the waiter they said they will fix it, it made absaloutely no difference. There are so many things that need addressing in this restaurant, you may guessed there won't be a repeat visit. Its one of those meals you go home from and never trust the fart.

The quality of food is great, the atmosphere is cool but the size of the portion is so small, just a ripoff.

Really fab experience, hot, tasty and fresh mixed grill and lovely lentil soup and excellent location with a mosque nearby. Really helpful staff when needed to pray too. Will be coming back excellent meal with family

Very friendly staff, very nice environment, perfect food and very suitable prices. One of the best restaurants in Leeds. We read the reviews and wanted to check ourselves. It was really worth it to do so. We later tried to take food out and it was perfect. Highly recommended to visit and try.

Ate here last night and the owner/manager welcomed us although there was 40 min to closing time and his staff were understandably eager to end their shift after a long and hard days work. He was very polite and explained to us the various dishes they had left on the menue. I believe he also went out of his way to make fresh bread for us. The food was very tasty and filling. The atmosphere and seating area was warm and inviting. His service to us was what stood out to us the most and it made dining there not only enjoyable but dare I say made the food tastier than it already did too. We weren't that hungry to begin with since we thought we could get some mankish, something light and quick, but instead we feasted on lamb shank and biryani. His kind and generous hospitality played a role in opening up out apetitie I can assure you. Would definitely visit again. Thank you sir for your kind welcome and exceptional service.

We’ve been coming here for years, and the food and hygiene standards have been getting progressively worse. On this occasion we ordered a beytin serma and iskender. The flavours were good but the meats were over cooked. Portion sizes are large and the food is well worth the money. However it did take nearly an hour getting our food out.

After Friday prayer at the local Leeds Grand Mosque, my friend and I visited Dewan Restaurant. As we only ever walked past weekly, we were surprised to see how spacious the interior was, with an outside 'courtyard', an inner restaurant space, and the central area. The restaurant resembles a Middle Eastern majlis and offers a very relaxed ambience. We decided to order kunafa and a pot of Arabic tea to share whilst waiting for other friends. The kunafa took a while, but it was well-made and authentic. After our other guests had arrived, we ordered an extensive range of dishes (mezze platter, lahmacun, a grill platter, kofta and lamb soup). Everything was served as it was being cooked and was made to perfection. We didn't realise the time and stayed much longer than anticipated! Thank you to the chefs and servers who accommodated for a pleasant stay at Dewan Restaurant.

Lovely place to go out to eat with friends - portion sizes were more than generous and we ended up with plenty of leftovers to take home. The food is incredibly well priced, flavoursome and filling. All staff were very friendly and you really get a homely vibe there - will definitely be coming back again :) thank you

Such an underrated spot! My family and I came here for lunch and had a feast for an extremely reasonable price. Service was fantastic and quick, food tasted delicious and the ambiance was great. Must try if you want good value for money and family / child friendly service!

Very bad experience, waiters not interested at all about her job, me and my friend order start and main and we got both in same time , also we order tea , but never came , we had to ask again and they send it to different table , and took the tea from that table and give it to us, plates not been taken away after we finish . Bad experience, food wasn’t great. I suggest the manager to give a proper training for the waitress. Definitely we not coming back

It was really bad experience. We ordered starters and meals, the waiter brought the starters after the meals🥲. The salad was bad and not fresh, the Humus really not tasty! Nothing was good. The waiters were not trained or qualified to work at restaurant. They were unwell to explain the menu!! And the hospitality basic principles are not provided. Moreover, its so expensive !! Don’t order turkish coffee there, it was so disgusting, and the Baqlawa with ice-cream is awful.

I have been to this restaurant once. Wasn’t really good experience with syrian res. The food wasn’t fresh and so expensive compared to the quality. The taboula was yak so we told them to cancel it. The turkish coffee was horrible. The place in general is nice and decorated but extremely hot in 18 temp. No AC run around the balcony area. Wouldn’t recommend it for food.

Overall food was ok but the waitress in a white shirt was very rude as when we asked for tap water she gave us an attitude, never comming back....poor service!

The food is absolutely amazing! We eat every other week. The only issue, if I can call it like that, is the personnel, they change a lot and some of them don’t seem to know what to do, but other than that I highly recommend this place if you like this type of food.

Really tasty, calm place, you just need to choose what to eat 😌. Prices are a little high, but this is normal. Everything is going up now. We understand that.

Food was very dry, and prices have hiked up so much, which makes it very expensive. Was waiting a long time for my food as well. Found out it had been sitting on the side,chef didnt even tell waitress it was ready. £40 for the mixed platter for 2 is way too much and I only got one portion of rice with it

Service from the waitress was rude to start with, no manners, and only got worse throughout our dinner, she was ignorant and abrupt. The starters were nice, but we had to clear our own dishes to the side to make space for the mains. We ordered coke zero but we served diet coke with no explanation. The main meal was unseasoned and bland, we were missing a side, after many an attempt to get the food rectified, they failed. We were ignored throughout, having to ask for a jug of water three times and at the end, twice for the bill before I got up to ask again. At the end we asked for the manager, to complain, to which we were told he was out. Then our waitress found out that we were complaining and actually came to our table, WOW! She said the chef was the manager and she would now take the food complaint to him. Which didn't go anywhere. After a few minutes we had a lady who looked like she was looking for an argument/ fight came over to our table. She leaned over us and asked what was wrong. She claimed to be the manager. She said the service is fine, nothing wrong, food we can't do anything because it's the end of your meal. After explaining that we complained throughout our meal, she decided to give us £3 off for each meal. As we were getting ready to leave, a gentleman approached our table and said he was the manager! The manager wanted to know exactly what happened, he was genuinely interested in the bad service. He told us the waitress in question was not good in his opinion also. He bought some seasoned marinade and covered the chicken we had untouched as was unedible, apparently this was what was supposed to be originally on the chicken. He apologised and gave us free tea. Overall poor service from all staff, only the manager seemed to care. Main meal was basically a waste of money. 2 stars are a push.

The waitress was very rude and the service was dreadful. We were told to choose our own seats then was told we couldn't sit where we chose even though the sun was in our eyes in the empty 2 person table. When our food arrived, one of the orders was wrong ( salad came instead of a stew as a side dish). The chicken that was grilled had no flavour and tasted as though it had nor been seasoned at all as well as the lamb dish being both flavourless and dry. We tried to call over our waitress multiple times however she did not come over once to see how we were not did she respond to us asking her to come over. We then had to track down a other waitress to explain our issue in which she provided a pot of seasoning for the meat which didn't add much flavour but was appreciated. When the mains came out, the starter plates were not taken away; we had to move them ourselves to make space for the other dishes which we definitely could not have done if we had sat where they were expecting us to. We asked for a jug of tap water 3 times before someone finally brought it over. Asked for the bill twice before getting up and asking. When stood up, the waitress looked at us, ignored us and walked around us without responding or asking if we were okay. We had to get up again to a different waitress who already said she would bring over the bill but didn't for 15 minutes. This service was horrible and so asked to speak to the manager in regards to this. As he was out, his wife came up to us instead with an aggressive attitude to ask what is wrong without introducing herself. We explained the situation and was told no compensation can be given for the service but a discount can be given for the bland chicken and wrong order. About 5 minutes after, the official manager came in and asked us about our experience and came across as though he wanted to help. He was kind and understanding and assured us that the staff would be spoken to. He helped fix the chicken and provided us with complementary Turkish tea and Turkish delight. When a different waitress in a black top brought our tea, she also cleared up the table and asked if we enjoyed the food. She was very helpful and I can say if she had served us initially, the service would have been much better. There was no issue with the tea, Turkish delight or the starters (cheese rolls and falafel). The reason 2 stars have been awarded instead of 1 is because of the manager and the food that was not particularly discussed about.

A very enjoyable meal. Owner is really friendly and caring about customers. Unfortunately service was very slow. We went to another place for our desserts. Lovely food and atmosphere. Enjoyed by all of us. Thank you.

Looks ok from the outside but quite ‘shady’ to say the least. Concerned to see what appeared to be a local junkie selling things which appear to have been pinched from local shops at the side kitchen door, charcoal smoke billowing out the chimney and rubbish and rats at the back. That makes me very wary of such an establishment. Room for improvement. The tomatoes were good, however.

Food is nice especially the pide. Nice and relaxed atmosphere, almost feels like you're in a traditional Turkish cafe. Staff are very friendly and not intrusive either. It's just a shame that they usually might not have the food you want on the menu.

Rise was cold 🥶 and kebab was dry &hard can't cut with knife doesn't teast kebab, but dessert was great 👌 turkish tea was brilliant, so expensive, but owner very friendly and welcoming

Food was quite good. Service needs a bit of working to do. Atmosphere is nice and cozy but foul taste in music. A bit more relaxing tone would've been better. All in all, the experience was delightful

Good Kurdish restaurant, atmosphere and tasty food

The service and ambiance is nice but very small portions for the price. The tea pot was the only item that felt worth it. The platter for one is £15 but the portion was tiny and it felt very dry especially considering the rice is plain, and after requesting some sauce to go with it, got ketchup Mayo and kebab shop chilli sauce none of which complemented the dish.

Was good when it first opened, portion size and service has decreased. Also they staff are reluctant to give the fresh chilli and yogurt sauce when ordering a mixed grill, they staff pretend they don't know what it is when I request this so I have to point it out to them near where the salad is.

It was a truly sumptuous meal and the family loved it there. One thing I would recommend are either the fresh juices or the family platter.

Food was okay a little bit plain

i came here the other day the metal cups changed the the tasted of the water and the ayran. plus the colour of the metal was coming off and it was visible in the water and the ayran which is very risky for anyone’s health plus the food was just okay not that tasty and definitely too expensive for the price.

Relaxed environment and a wide range of food options, really enjoy it here and how nice it all is. Really affordable as well.

Called and they will not deliver because the driver did not come or because I am too far (two people spoke to me saying different things) but not cancelling the order even though I asked so I can order from elsewhere on UberEats. Clearly trying to get money for nothing. Despicable.

This place is a gem! A diamond in the rough. I have visited a few times now and absolutely love it. The food, the atmosphere, the staff and the price. The food is always cooked perfectly and everything I have tasted so far has been delicious. Staff are always pleasant and very helpful suggesting the right foods when you are unsure. Will definitely be visiting a lot more in the future

Beautiful decor, stunning design… terrible service and not the best Kurdish/Turkish food. Advertises itself as a Turkish restaurant however it’s 100% Kurdish. The food was presented very well but the taste was extremely bland. When the waitress came to take our order she had no pen or pad so we knew that something was going to go wrong especially when she was taking it all in her memory. I ordered Bulger and I received the normal rice with my order. The drinks are overpriced at £2 per can and they do not serve a jug of water instead they make you pay for very cheap plastic bottles of Kirkland water from Costco. Knives and forks were thrown down on the table in a pile which made us feel like we Neolithic cavemen! Took a very long time for them to clean our table when delivering our tea… We had high expectations of this place when we arrived there, however we were sorely disappointed with the quality and standard of the food.

Put simply, the food here is fantastic. Great atmosphere, service, quality of food. Go for the meze type dishes and order an aubergine stew!

Portion size is really small… and the drinks are basically just water and they warm had to ask for some ice.. watermelon juice was horrible and the lemon and mint was so sour. Worst place ever

I went yesterday to have iftar with my family, the atmosphere was amazing and the athan with free dates and lentile soap , then we ordered the meal with ice cream baclava .. bless them and jazahmallah khaeern

Ordered online through their website. Order was completely wrong on arri al. Rang the restaurant, after speaking to 3 people their attitude was basically its my fault the order is incorrect because I didn't check the food when it arrived. I couldn't as I have covid and had to send my child to the door to collect the order, but shouldn't have to check anyway as the onus is on the restaurant to provide the correct food as ordered. The manager then tried to say the food sent was correct but they had changed the menu and so substituted kofta for kebabs, without saying anything to the customer about the substitution, and that only the burger was missing. But that was not true as the 2 starters ordered which were stuffed vine leaves and babaganoush had turned up as chicken wings and humus. Also my older son is gluten free and can't eat a kebab in bread of any kind. The website said nothing about any sort of bread with anything I ordered other than the missing burger, which was intentional (older son and I don't eat bread). The only thing correct in the order was halloumi which was clap cold and squeaked against my other son's teeth when he ate it. He asked me to try it, it was disgusting. I asked for a refund but was told they wouldn't give one as we'd had the order (of £42 spent the only thing correct was the vile cold halloumi). After a long argument with the manager I threatened trading standards and was offered a replacement for some of the order and to keep the incorrect items. I would at this point have preferred a full refund. They could have had the incorrect delivery back in full minus two halloumi sticks but they refused to even consider giving a refund. I conceded as the only choice they gave was stick with the same order or be given 3 replacement items. They sent the burger, which my younger son said was OK but nothing special, with fries which he said were soggy. The only decent thing about the whole experience was that my son said the delivery driver was more polite than most. I CERTAINLY will NEVER order from them again. Food was incorrect, late, unappetising and cold, and the customer service was absolutely chronic. Pic of incorrect starters that arrived versus what was ordered. Plus one main with the plainest most boring rice ever seen floating around in a giant takeaway tin. I was quite excited when I saw the size of the box, but very disappointed once I looked inside. I might have felt differently had it reflected what i ordered, or the description on the website been accurate, or had the 3 members of staff been ready to accept their mistake and be more helpful. Avoid avoid avoid.

Just been in Dewan Restaurant yesterday, the food was absolutely delicious, and the service was excellent and waiter Rebin, were really friendly with us, we left the restaurant with a big smile, that is why definitely recommended and go there again 👌

Do not get fooled by the positive comments posted by their own staff and friends! we experienced a terrible customer service, been waiting for 15min just to get the menu, had to go to reception after another 15 min to let them now we are ready to order! Then the Starter didn't arrive after another 15 minutes! I went to reception again to ask about it, rude staff claimed we hadn't ordered any starter, yet the food itself wasn't even prepared while we were the only customers in the restaurant! They didn't even serve us a glass of water or a soup in nearly 45 mins, waiting time for Nothing. We left the place immediately and will never go back there.

Terrible service the waiter was rude to us and asked us if our chicken was really raw as he didn't believe us instead of just apologising. He also made a lot of snide remarks ensinuating we came there for free food when my friend didn't even touch her food The food was wither under cooked or over cooked and rock hard. We were all very hungry and barely touched our food.

The chicken was not cooked and my friends food was burnted. The waiter was rude and was trying to debate whether the food is undercooked or not. Refused to refund my friend despite her not touching her plate. Should have listened to the bad reviews before going. Would never go back again.

A little expensive for the portions and quality of food which does not justify the price. Service was okay, had to call for the waiter to take our order rather than one coming to us. Asked how long it’d take for the food to come, was told “7 minutes” which was quite precise but then came after 20 mins.. which isn’t so long but why say 7 mins lol. Would I be visiting again? Not anytime soon as there are similar restaurants with better quality of food, and better price . ***** visited this restaurant again on the 28th of feb 2022 , service and food has improved significantly therefore I will rate it a 5* once again

I loved it! Just really tasty and fantastic ambience too. We started by struggling to choose between the hot and cold starter platters. So the waiter offered to combine the best of both for us! A great start. The mains were also to die for. I wolfed it down. I had an apple tea to finish and as my partner decided not to have anything they offered a turkish black tea on the house. We will have to back for the puddings which looked gorgeous. Great food, great setting, great service! Will be back 😊
