My hubby and I have been 3/4 times and each time we enjoy it even more if that’s even possible. 1st time we stopped in for coffee and a cake and each time after we enjoyed a fantastic dinner. Everything homemade. So many delicious dessert to choose from. The food is 10/10 each dish made with live and you can taste it. If you’re looking for an excellent homemade meal with a family feel environment you must try. We love it here. Highly recommend to anyone and everyone

We have eaten here multiple times. the staff are great and really friendly, whether you’re going in for a coffee on your lunch break or for food at dinner time they are always willing to help. For dinner / lunch, the food is great, fresh authentic food, kitchen is open so you can watch and the vibe is brilliant. Can’t recommend enough. Pastel de nata are incredible!

Amazing food and amazing experience, definitely coming back!!

We have to wait for more than 30 minutes and food came cold for everyone. The dish Cod a brass consists of just fried potatoes mixed with fried onions and almost no fish with salad. My friends who are knowledgeable about Portuguese dishes , they were very disappointed as they said that it’s not an authentic Portuguese dish. I do not recommend to go there.

Accidentally happened across this restaurant and glad I did. My fiancé and I both loved the food we ordered here and the service was really good. I personally ordered the Bife à Vaz, the sauce marinate with the beef was amazing. My fiancé ordered one of the vegetarian pastas which was also really good. Deserts are equally as amazing. Highly recommend.

I've been going to Vaz ever since I moved to Birmingham, and it's just an amazing place, fantastic food, good variety of dishes that will make sure no one would ever leave hungry or disappointed. Food is great and it's my local go-to Portuguese food place. Beyond the food, it's also a centre for a warm community and it's a welcoming and friendly place. Igor and Carla and the team are always absolute stars.

Amazing food with great, friendly service. The francesinha was perfect and the portions were a good size. Not a cheap place but was worth the price, it's a must visit.

Absolutely excellent restaurant. We came on the off chance midweek, and what a pleasant surprise. The food was of a superb standard and mirrored being in Portugal, the service was outstanding and it was very reasonably priced. Definitely definitely definitely will be going back again. Always a best place to back, and feel home.. Beautiful food , the atmosphere is warm and pleasant, you feel outside of Birmingham and it seems like you are dining in a restaurant in Portugal, I recommend it and I do it every time I go, because it is a super cozy place, highly recommended.

We came to visit Birmingham and wanted to have some portuguese cuisine and came across Vaz.. It did not disappoint. The food was amazing and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The girl taking our order was new and learning and she did amazing and made us feel like a part of the family she suggested some amazing food. I couldn't recommend enough . Compliments to the chef . Will definitely be coming back.

I just went there for a drink with a friend. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. We did not have anything to eat. But I will be going there again and will have something to eat next time.

We had been’ waiting for some time to get a booking. So last night was the one, we were excited to sample good food on our doorstep. It was pretty empty when we got there, simple and quaint. We looked at the menu and it was simple, nothing that excited either of us. I went for cod fritters and my partner had the sausage for a starter together with halloumi courgettes. We were both surprised to find the food looked, felt and tasted like it was done yesterday but re-heated and the fritters were not a crispy coating but just dull lifeless. The sausage was also bready and dry and the halloumi, well I make it better at home. The main was pretty much the same nothing to sing about. The fries were floppy, no crunch and looked like cardboard sticks lol. It’s definitely a no frills place with no frills food but the price for what you get was extortionate. We paid in full simply as my partner doesn’t like to make complaints so we thought we’d leave it at that and not to go there again. Definitely not an enjoyable experience. Sorry Vaz, you defo need to make more effort and change you menu to fresh only products not reheated or left to cool down. Speedy service would have been appreciated.

Just love it here. Carla and Igor have made this a wonderful place to eat, drink and feel relaxed and happy. It really is like being in Portugal and the food is packed with fabulous flavour and authentic taste.

Despite years of living in the area, I have never dined at this restaurant. A few days ago, I visited Vaz Restaurant for the first time for a friend's birthday party, and I was very pleased with my visit. The food was absolutely amazing, and the staff was incredibly kind and attentive. The customer service was also excellent. I ordered Espetada de Frango without the chorizo and absolutely enjoyed, is a meal that I will definitely get again. While we were enjoying karaoke past closing time, the restaurant remained open for us. It's an excellent location, and I highly recommend it.

The venue is lovely and the food is delicious. You MUST have the sangria bowl. The service is relaxed, friendly and authentic. Easy to get to with great bus links and on street parking outside.

Começamos por pedir azeitonas para entrada. Não sendo mau o suficiente cobrarem-nos à volta de 7£ e tal por uma quantidade ridícula de azeitonas, estas vieram a acompanhar com 3 minúsculas rodelas de pão, sendo que éramos 4 pessoas à mesa. Portanto, um de nós não pôde comer pão porque, simplesmente, não havia. As porções relativamente aos pratos principais também deixaram (muito) a desejar. Um dos pratos trazia salada como acompanhamento: qual não foi o nosso espanto quando a senhora que nos estava a servir chegou com um pires (prato pequeno onde geralmente se colocam as chávenas de café) com a porção de salada que pedimos. Ridículo! Já o bacalhau que veio noutro dos pratos principais demonstrou-se como a posta mais próxima do rabo, a mais pequena que podiam encontrar. A linguiça e a salsicha da francesinha pareciam acabadas de tirar da embalagem; sítio extremamente caro, porções ridiculamente pequenas, pouca consideração com o cliente. Pedimos também vinho a copo. Quando chegou à mesa, notamos que estava com paladar pouco habitual. Quando pedimos à senhora que o substituísse, foi-nos dito que aquele vinho tinha sido aberto naquele dia. Após uns minutos, trouxeram-nos outro copo de vinho, alegando ser uma nova garrafa. O vinho sabia exatamente ao anterior, como que estragado de estar tanto tempo aberto. Lamentável.

Rubbish, I ordered the francesinha which amounted to a thin streak and cheese sandwich with an egg on top for 16 quid. My wife had a chicken skewer that was burnt dry and black. Not good enough, do not recommend. I will never go back.

The flavour of the francesinha was nice but the cheese was making me a bit sick by the end but that's me personally. All of the food overall was good and so was the service. The coffee was pretty bad though. Good overall, would visit again

Giving this a three because it's my second visit and the first time was so good. So pretty disappointed about this time. An hour to even get a drink, the staff were pretty unfriendly, the starters were incorrect, and one of the steaks we ordered was so tough even my blue steak loving other half couldn't finish it. Honestly they caught us maybe the minute before we were about to walk out and go find another place to eat, service took that long. And after all that, they still tried to give us a loyalty card. It's a crying shame, bc I know how amazing this place can be - we brought our friends here because of the great experience we had last time, and tonight was such a let down. Guideline for this place I think is this, as long as there's more than one waitress on, it's five stars. With how it was tonight? It's two, because when the food is good, it's good.

The selection of homemade desserts.... YES!! The custard tarts were stunning. Everything just felt so authentic and I could well of been sat in a restaurant in the Algarve ready to walk out home after an amazing meal warming from the inside from the bowl of fruity sangria. Superb restaurant. We stumbled across it while driving through Bearwood, and after reading the reviews we thought we’d try it as we’ve always enjoyed the food we’d tried when visiting Portugal. We thought we’d try a few different dishes to get an idea of the quality of the food, so we ordered the homemade soup (today it was cabbage with smoked sausage), salt cod fritters and Bifana’s. The soup was delicious, beautifully seasoned and the smoked sausage in it gave it a real moorish taste. The Saltcod fritters were delicious, for deep fried food they were super crisp with no hint of grease at all and what can we say about the Bifana was except they were just outstanding. Once again beautifully seasoned with a unctuous flavour and a joy to eat. After speaking with our server she told us they also run a shop around the corner selling Portuguese goods, which we visited straight after and stocked up on the foods we love to eat when in Portugal. We can’t recommend this restaurant enough, can’t wait to go back. Seem like Bearwood is the place to go for up & coming restaurants.

Vaz is the restaurant to go if you want authentic Portuguese/Cape Verdean food. Northern Portuguese classics like the bifana & francesinhas must be tried. I also love the bife a cavalo accompanied with a mountain of rice & chips. The new restaurant is light & airy with tasteful nods to Portugal throughout the dining space as well as in the more relaxed bar area. A staple of the Bearwood food scene, go try it!

Best place in Birmingham to eat a good authentic Portuguese food . Portuguese owners are very friendly, the food is amazing want to try something different this is the right place. Me and my family go there all the time . While you there don't forget to stop at vaz grocery on the same road just look for the Portuguese flags 😀😀.

Nice cosy restaurant with friendly staff, full of Portuguese people. It felt like you were a guest in a Portuguese person's home. I had the meal of the day which was seafood and rice; a plate consisting of large sweet prawns, mussels and squid. My wife had a traditional Porto dish called Francesinha, which was a sandwich filled with Portuguese sausage, ham and steak, topped with cheese and covered with a gravy flavoured with beer. Very good.

This year I've celebrated my birthday at Vaz Café in Birmingham, I miss the portuguese food and it was a good experience to do it at this small but very cosy portuguese restaurant. Starting with the staff, it was very helpful and friendly, the food was very tasty, how we like it. The always tasty cod with cream, the Bitoque(beef), the starters so good, specially the chouriço was amazingly good. To drink we had Sangria, very nice and with a special touch. Everything was perfect.

Feels like home. Amazing typical food from Portugal and a cozzy environment.

This is a very cozy place, almost familiar. The two sisters (I thinks they are) are very nice. They are a few options for vegetarians like Spinach Tortellini, or Vegetarian Lasagne. The famous Portuguese Bacalhau (dried cod) is obviously on the menu with the Cod's Braga (Bacalhau á Braga) and is very well prepared (no too salty, just right). There is also the Porto's famous sandwich Francezinha. The place has a small table and two big ones for 10 people each. You can get a very good expresso, and the good thing is also that if you ask for a longer one, they won't give you a double expresso, like in many other places, just longer. On the negative note: the seating is way too high on side (wall side) and too low on the other side. Very unconfortable. And they don't have an alcohol license yet... The prices are not expensive at all. I recommend it!

Hoje fui no restaurante Café Vaz, e está aprovado sim senhor, até que enfim temos algo de qualidade na cidade, fazia tempo que carecíamos de um bom restaurante português. A comida sabe muito bem, ontem eles tinham rojões a minhota, sempre tem algo diferente todos os dias. Ambiente acolhedor e familiar, marquem as mesas, porque tem sempre estado cheio 😋.
