In one single visit this place became one of my most favourite places to eat in Birmingham. The food is hard to describe in words, you just have to try it. The service is also 10/10. Couldn’t fault this place.

Went first time today and it was amazing!! The food is fresh and delicious. Authentic Mexican food thats tastes amazing. Lovely clean restaurant with friendly staff. Our waitress was lovely. Definitely will be going back!

I went here for my Neices birthday. Goid portion size for your money and the food was nice.

Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience in "A la mexicana" this time. A friend of mine and her parents were in town, and they really wanted to have Mexican food, so we came to this restaurant for dinner. We got there by 7, and we were served our food at 8:30 pm. Almost 1 hour and a half waiting for our food. During all that time, no one came to talk to us to explain why it was taking so long. We were not even offered more drinks. The food was ok, although I don't think it's good value for money. They don't even use authentic corn tortillas for the tacos. Please, sort yourselves out, it was a terrible experience and I won't be coming back to this place.

A local favourite’s with authentic mexican food, there’s even a sombrero in the house, the owners really put in effort in its decoration. Food was great and filling, just slightly overcooked with the bisteca. P.S. The hot sauce is a must-try, great for dares!

This is my favourite place to eat in Birmingham! The food is cooked fresh to order and all of the ingredients are fresh and zingy. I recommend the burritos with chicken and vegetables or the burritos with carnitas and chorizo. The pico de gallo is incredible and the guacamole is too. The sweet corn salad is nice but could use a bit more zest. The cheesy bean nachos are really delicious too. This is my go to place with friends and family. It is run by a mexican family and they are very friendly. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and on weekends it has a nice bustle but isn’t overwhelmingly busy. They also have regular deals on the independent Birmingham app and customers can park around the back of the store.

delicious, i can’t wait to go again. we got the chicken tacos, the tostadas de tinga, the margarita, and the nachos. i didn’t want my meal to end it was so delicious and satiating. the vegetables were fresh and it felt so nourishing and healthy.

Beautiful restaurant, delicious food and cute decor. Only downside is they sell Coke products, but Jarritos also available.

FINALLY! What Birmingham was missing: Authentic Mexican food! If you know how a real taco, enchilada, cochinita pibil tastes then 'A La Mexicana' is the place to eat. Delicious home-made traditional food cooked and served by an amazing family. The place is spotless and the service is excellent. The decorations made me feel like home! The food was so good that I did not even managed to take pictures, authentic Mexican flavours! And the cakes... ! I would 1000% recommend 'A La Mexicana'. Patty and her kids made and continue to make this place, a true gem of Birmingham

The best mexican in Birmingham ! Food is full of flavour, service is great, portions are more huge and the atmosphere is perfect. I will recommend this to anyone who asks where is good to eat. If you're thinking of coming then i recommend booking !

Lovely little spot with nice decorations, vibes and very warm service. Most importantly the food was fantastic. Some of the best Mexican I have had. My friend who was with me said it was just as good as the food he had had in Mexico which comes as no surprise as the food is as it says, authentic and delicious! I love local independent restaurants and have always preferred them food wise, and it’s important to support them and I care about this especially as an independent small business owner. Had heard about La Mexicana for a while and it really didn’t disappoint, would highly reccomend and have done already!

Family restaurant with homemade Mexican food. The service was very good, the girl who served us was very friendly.

Amazing food, they were so helpful with my dietary requirements as as I have coeliac disease so can’t have any risk of cross contamination of gluten. Also dairy free and vegetarian all catered for . Lots of gluten free options. Kids also loved the food Thank you!

We waited to pick up the takeaway for more than 1 hour instead of 20 minutes that they first told us. Service was very slow.

Firstly what a lovely family that run and cook the food. We ordered two different meals and both were a reasonable price and very filling. Was nice that for the quesadilla they were happy to mix chicken with chorizo which was a beautiful combination. Comes with a salad and rice. Went down really well with a fizzy guava drink. Had a tiny kick of spice but wasn't over whelming. Will Definately go back!

After a recent visit and hopefully something would remind me of my time in Mexico; me and my girlfriend visited. This place had to be one of the most disappointing places to eat. The flavours and spice are just not there, the food is fundamentally wrong and I would just find any other place to eat because I don’t think you could do much worst

Great food, this was a nice to stumble across! Quirky inside, I love the open view kitchen at the back - really gives that home / family feeling. Food was good but I may have ordered wrong! The fried chicken tacos felt a bit plain. My husband’s tacos were nice but something was still missing! Lovely beans and rice though! Think maybe we should have gone for another dish because the starters were incredible! The shrimps and chorizo just wow! Extremely delicious! Nachos were good and authentic! The atmosphere is buzzing, felt a bit crowded at times but this gives it that authentic feel! Good value for money! Service was really good - lovely staff and so friendly - they honestly are what makes this place great! Shout out to the Jarritos so so good!

Jaritos were delicious also they have the Modelo beer which is amazing to say the least. Try out the wet burritos with chorizo or chicken 🙂 or the beef quesadilla Beautiful food and everything was awesome. It felt that I was eating at home

Update : 29.08.24 The food is still awesome. The tacos and the tostadas are still our favourite. Really nice place. The spicy salsa is hot so be warned. Not too expensive either. The chorizo, chicken and spicy pork tacos are the best, didn't really rate the pulled pork taco (too fatty - carnitas).

Lovely little family restaurant. It’s very hard to find authentic Mexican food or Latin food in general in Birmingham so this is an excellent find. Food was very good :)

Yummy, it was bootiful. I loved the food and my pet rabbit gobbled it all up. It was worth the drive from Scotland just to eat here.

Another find in Brum! Was wonderful to have Michelada on this side of the pond :) (Clamato-based - just like the most famous Canadian cocktail - the Caesar!). The food made from scratch. I think I am warming up to Brum! Highly recommended!!!

Really enjoyed my molcajete. Not the easiest to eat out of a volcanic pestle and mortar but the flavours were great. Tostados da tinga had good flavours and was enjoyed and the kids meal had a much appreciated lack of spice and was wolfed down. Service was really good and atmosphere was just right. Place was full when we were in and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Only negative was the drinks. Wanted to try the Pacifico but they didn't have any, and I really didn't get the Jarritos Loco. £10 for a bottle of fizzy pop with some fruit and a shot of tequila shoved inside and some spice rubbed around the outside. As I say, I just didn't get it. If we hadn't ordered any drinks I would have scored this a 5.

I’ve been going to the reataurant for a while now and each and every single time I’ve been has been an outstanding and great experience! If you’re thinking of going to a chain mexican restaurant - don’t. Come here instead. The food, drinks, hospitality and price point are miles ahead (we went to chiquitos a week before and had a terrible dining experience and it was also £30 more expensive for less food at a poor quality). Every single time upon arrival you’re greeted with smiles and a warm welcome - there has never once been a time where you catch someone in a bad mood, this certainly uplifts the dining experience to what I would say not even michelin starred establishments could ever touch. We booked a table for 2 and because it wasn’t busy we were able to choose our seating, the wait staff were attentive and listened to our needs, being someone who was on a low carb diet they made sure that my needs were catered for and also made special accommodations for my partner! The decor and atmosphere takes you away from the drab and dreary setting in Birmingham and transports you to Mexico, and the music puts you in such a great mood! Even the kitchen staff have a smile on their faces and it really sets a good vibe for your evening. To start, we ordered the sharer nachos with queso and the shrimp and chorizo - both were absolutely delicious - the food here really does have that certain flare that can only be achieved with the right ingredients and quality. Tortilla chips are made fresh and are such a crunchy delight. Definitely recommend trying all salsas they have to offer (if you can tolerate spice). The sauce for the chorizo and prawns had a robust and deep flavour - which could only be achieved with time and experience. For mains we ordered the chicken fajitas, and the pechuga a la mexicana - both were at a generous portion size for their price and tasted amazing. The standout for the fajitas was definitely the savoury spice (although it wasn’t hot spice) on the chicken - alongside the char on the peppers and onions - this helped elevate the flavour of the meal and add a real depth to the dish. The pechuga was also packed with flavour - and attention to detail was put into every component of the dish - even the salad which at a chain restaurant would usually be a sad bag of leaves - but here you could tell it was constructed for you with avocados - radishes - salad leaves, cucumbers and a dressing to die for. Here the salsas and the pico de gallo also gave the dishes another burst of flavour which is key when you get a big portion size. We took the chocolate flan cake to go and my partner praised the combination - the flan made sure that the cake didnt dry out the palette and it had a creamy texture and consistency - high praise coming from my partner who is a baker by profession. The alcoholic beverages are a real treat too - the jarritos cocktails are a real burst of flavour and give you an idea of what Mexican hospitality is - they are also generous with the tequila so you’ll be sure to have a good time! Before we had realised it we had spent close to 2 hours there and didnt even notice time fly by!

Can honestly say this is the best Mexican in Birmingham, I have had 3 burritos here and they place 1, 2 and 3 in burritos I have had in my life. Other dishes are just as good but I have to taste these from my partner’s plate as I can’t get past the burrito

What a find! Modest setting but great restaurant. Real Mexican food, cooked to order. I would recommend starting with the Nachos (enough for two to share as a starter). Very tasty. Mains include enchiladas, quesadillas, burritos plus a few specials on the board. All freshly made and tasty. Didn’t try the wine list but a fair selection of soft drinks available. Service beyond reproach. Pricing is quite reasonable. Well worth a visit.

Stopped in for a quick lunch on a Saturday and the food was incredible. We had a main each and shared some nachos between 3. With a drink each, it came to around £20 per person. Would definitely recommend and will visit again.

We came back from California recently and experienced wonderful mexican food. So we thought we would visit A La Mexican.....well we were not disappointed the menu was simple and it tasted wonderful very flavoursome that you will always remember. It was definitely authentic and knowing I don't need to go back to California to experience one of the best mexican meals I had, I have now found the next best mexican restaurant not so far away. It's cosy and very friendly staff. Highly recommend a visit 👌

If you’re looking for authentic amazing Mexican food, THIS is your place! We had Carnitas and Pastor tacos, and it totally felt like eating back in Mexico City 🇲🇽♥️ also, you’ve gotta try the Jarrito Loco. Best thing ever!

Incredible, authentic food. We definitely want to go again, but next time will skip the starter and maybe order 3 mains (not sure we'll be able to eat it all but want to experience more). Service was great, really lovely people including the chef coming out to help someone's query on another table. Decor is simple / basic but I wouldn't downmark it for that as the prices reflect appropriately.

Insanely delicious! This is a must try!! We ordered the chicken & veg burrito, the carnitas & chorizo burrito, guacamole, hot salsa and extra pico de gallo. Everything was AMAZING!!! The pico de gallo had SO much flavour. It was zesty and fresh and after trying the portion that came with my burrito I immediately ordered more. The flavours were stand out. I’ve tried it at other restaurants and it felt like a watery afterthought so I am glad to finally have tasted authentic flavours. The guacamole was fresh and delicious and a generous portion. The salsa was spicy, zesty and fresh. We ploughed through it and next time will get one each. Insane flavour! The carnitas & chorizo burrito was I N C R E D I B L E. Every mouthful was sublime. The rice, beans and cheese brought it together in a toasted wrap which was cut for ease of eating and beautifully presented. Smearing on the guac and pico de gallo really balanced out the flavours and made everything pop. The chicken & veg burrito was really flavoursome and had balanced textures. Both came with a side salad too. We came excited to try horchata but it is a special on some weeks so make sure you WhatsApp them and check their specials menu. The environment was cute and colourful with enjoyable music playing. We’re so excited to come back to this family run award winning restaurant!

Tasty food, large portions, good value. There was a range from mild / medium to spicy. Pleasant accommodating staff. Good service. We booked late on the day and had a table for 5 adults plus a toddler in the alley - a pleasant cool brightly painted and decorated area. When we asked for the music to be louder for us, the staff obliged. Pleasant atmosphere. We all loved the food and drinks. We had extra nachos - so crispy with guacamole and other sauces. Mango ice cream was delicious and excellent value.

Authentic Mexican cuisine in Bearwood! The dishes are always bursting with flavour, the portions are generous, and they’ve got a good selection of Mexican beers and soft drinks. Plus stuff are super friendly. Highly recommend!

Being from the southern US and living in Houston for many years, I’ve been really missing authentic Mexican food since moving here. This restaurant completely satisfied that craving. Delicious food, nice atmosphere and very friendly, helpful service. Highly recommend!

We have been before, and the food was great. But the service is just awful. Most recently, we called to make a booking, leaving a message as their system indicated. We called the next day to confirm; they told us they didn't check their messages and so had no table. They offered us an earlier time. We took the earlier time. They texted us 30 minutes later to say they couldn't give us that time and asked if we could come even earlier before any of us were even done work. Brutal.

Lovely wholesome family made food. Feels like home, food wise and ambience wise. Made adjustments for my diet, will be visiting again! They are happy to adjust ingredients as everything is made fresh. Veggie friendly. I loved the burrito.

Visited on a Saturday for my partners birthday, I had been recommended to try this place by a friend and loved it. The place has a lovely, cosy atmosphere, the staff were polite, attentive and happy to answer any questions. The food was delicious, portion sizes very generous and priced incredibly reasonably. It is authentic Mexican food done well and that is hard to find, will 100% go again!

This place is really special. Lovely, fresh food and a relaxed and friendly staff. I took a visitor from Texas here and he agreed! Not the rubbish 'cheap chili powder' chain type of thing: smoky salsas, well-flavoured home-cooked tortillas, quality ingredients. Excellent.

Attended for my birthday meal after hearing so many good reviews and we weren't disappointed! This is truly an authentic mexican restaurant, every part of the place including food, music, staff and atmosphere really enhances that feeling/vibe! I'm not going to knock a star off but the only thing I was sad about was that they had no desserts :( but think this was just a one off occasion and luckily we had birthday cake at home 😊 will definitely be back 🇲🇽🌮

We pre-booked a table at A La Mexicana for Valentines Day evening after hearing many positive reviews, safe to say we weren’t disappointed! Table service was brilliant, our waiter couldn’t be more helpful - he gave tips on sauces to accompany our meals, advised us on the menu and ensured we were comfortable during our meal. The food was amazingly fresh and delicious, I ordered a ‘Pink Margherita’ cocktail off the specials menu and it was gorgeous! The atmosphere was very cosy and relaxed- We will definitely be back!

My husband and I have been looking for a good Mexican restaurant for a while, We decided to try A La Mexicana for his birthday and were not disappointed!! absolutely by far the best Mexican food we have ever had! Staff were really friendly too, the atmosphere and general vibes were very welcoming. We took our 3 month old and there was space for the pram. Can't wait to go again!

This perfect little hidden gem serves the tastiest meals going. Portion sizes are HUGE and never fail to get both my husband and I going mmmmmm 😋😋 We ordered Chilli con carni Nachos, pulled pork fajita, banana chimney chunga and had to stop at the nachos ! No word of a lie, so tasty, and latterly HUGE. Fully loaded with zero grease. Keep up the amazing work and would love to be able to order the goat curry. Mrs Martin x

The most insane mexican food in birmingham! So authentic and full of flavour. My personal favourite are the tacos ahogados and chicken tacos! Friendly service and a great selection of freshly made salsas. The rice pudding cheesecake is also incredible! Will be going back again soon!!

Wonderful experience here with excellent service mainly from Jason. Food exceptional and is probably the best Mexican Restaurant in Birmingham. Definitely worth a visit as food is authentic with a very Mexican feel to the place.

I absolutely love this place I find their rice delicious and fluffy quesadillas delicious. I think the creamy sweetcorn is addictive we always go here with my daughter and her partner. You must have a starter and main but we treat ourselves to dessert as well 😁 always book to avoid disappointment

Service was very good here, staff are so polite and explain everything in full. Food was nice but I have tried better Mexican food in other restaurants. Me and my husband tried a few dishes and we said wouldn't pick these again but that's just our taste, the rest of the family really enjoyed the food they had ordered
