Lovely bagels, great coffee, vegan bagel & green smoothie really nice

I visited today with my partner and everything was delicious. Food was delicious, service was quick and menu was lovely and varied. We got 3 bagels to share as we couldn’t decide and they were all 10/10.

Went for a quick bite to eat during my lunch break. Service was quick and friendly. The Ruben bagel was delicious, as was my Oero milkshake.. Would highly recommend.

The atmosphere here is very relaxing and the food and drinks are just impeccable, i really recommend coming here if you are wanting to study or go on a little date.

Really good, proper bagels. Pretty stingy on the fillings though. Nice range of drinks and a really good atmosphere.

Whenever I’m in Bedford I always ask my friends to meet me here. Over the years the standard and service hasn’t changed at all, the staff are always so attentive and friendly and I love the simplicity of the bagel menu that is executed really well. Please keep baking the chocolate stout cake it’s the best!

Best bagel I've ever had!!! I come in yesterday as it was suggested by a food blogger and it did not disappoint!!! I had the salt beef bagel with cheese and everything was on point and very filling too 😋 I will be returning for sure!!

I love coming here, the foods great and everyone who works there are really friendly. It can get pretty busy, especially at weekends so the staff might seem rushed but take that as assurance of how good the place is.

Adorable place and perfect for Brunch. Reasonable prices menu and a great selection of cakes and treats to take away as well. They even had some vegan options for cakes which I took away and loved! There are plenty of small table but maybe not so great for groups bugger than 4. Had a lovely salmon and egg bagel there and the cappuccino they made was brilliant! I also saw they had some board games so perhaps will have to come back for that! The staff were all really lovely and chatty, and it felt very welcoming. Service was perhaps a little slower than expected but might just have been a busy time for them. I didnt mind having a small wait though as I was quite happy to just sit and have a nice chat in the cafe!

Nice little cafe. It's a bit too pricey, though compared to previous 'owners'. Previously, you could get a bacon bap and coffee for £3.50 & now it's almost that for a coffee.

Not my regular coffee shop but I thought I'd try something new. Well I'm sorry I even entered the premises! The stone cold look I got from the woman behind the counter was like I asked her to decorate my house for free! Apart from her the other younger members of staff were more polite and friendly. Nice atmosphere, decent coffee, just the poor customer service that ruined it for me.

Great food, the salt beef bagel is amazing, only issue was being bumped around every time by people trying to bring prams and such in, just wasn't quite enough room

I discovered this place after the Starbucks boycott began, couldn’t recommend it highly enough. Fantastic coffee at the right temperature, fresh chewy soft bagels and really friendly staff.

We had a cappuccino in Vanilla Tree, which was ok. It could have been served hotter and stronger for our taste. Overall, it was a nice, well decorated place to go with nice staff.

I tried one of their famous cinnamon challahs, aromatic, charismatic, decadent, voluptuous, magnificent, delectable, are some of the few adjectives I can think of to describe, just one, of their amazing breakfasts option.

What’s not to love? Home baked bagels and Challah. Freshly prepared cakes to die for. Extensive artisan food and drinks menu. Dogs are welcome as are humans. They even have their own in house baker Charlie. The best coffee in Bedford by far……

This cafe reminds me of the sort of place you might find in Camden Town or Glastonbury or Brighton - ostensibly a bit off-beat and alternative but actually quite upmarket. That's not meant in a disparaging way. I usually like those places, despite being neither bohemian nor upmarket myself. This one has a friendly, vibrant atmosphere and is spacious but quite cosy. Service is cheery and brisk and there is a large, varied menu of snacks, drinks and lunch items. I had a tasty quiche, a really delicious fruity muffin-like cake and a good cup of coffee. Prices weren't cheap but certainly not exorbitant. Having tried it and enjoyed it, The Vanilla Tree will make a good new addition to my choice of good lunching venues in Bedford.

Wonderful rustic coffee shop serving gorgeous coffee and homemade bagels. An extensive range of teas is also on offer. Staff were very polite, friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be back 😊

The place has a very nice atmosphere, good decor and warm lighting, the music is nice too, nothing wild, making it perfect for the environment. The coffee is good but not my favourite, flavour is nice but it feels a bit watery. Staff is very nice, courteous too without feeling like robots. The only real problem i experienced were the tables, the one i sat at was not cleaned well (or at all) so there were crumbs from Previous customers. Admittedly i could have sat at a different table, so I am not going to complain much. The floor is nice with the wooden material, but it tends to make a lot of noise and accentuate thumping sounds when people walk.

Welcoming decor and homey vibe. Can get a bit loud but the aesthetic makes up for it. Nice hot chocolate today :) thank you

I went for the custard tarts but they were sold out that day, so I tried the chocolate stout cake instead. It was delicious, not overly sweet, the frosting was perfect 👌

Relaxed coffee shop a short walk from the town centre. Had a flat white which tasted really smooth and the pastel de nata was sublime.

The best scrambled eggs I’ve ever had! The bagel with scrambled eggs and chorizo was so delicious! Found it odd that they don’t do table numbers and just walk around holding your food until someone claims it. The yelling of orders kills the vibes a bit too. But if it works for them I guess 🤷‍♀️ wasn’t a fan of the coffee either :( I’ll definitely be back for that bagel though!

I absolutely love this place. Flat white is like a silky angel from heaven kissing my taste buds. Chilled atmosphere, amazing staff, deffo get down their when I can again.

My favourite cafe in Bedford by far, they serve amazing coffee and the food is always delicious. Bagels are home made and fresh, I always go for the scrambled eggs and chorizo but it's a hard choice between that or the french toast, bacon and maple syrup. They make their own pastel de nata too which are probably the best I've tasted anywhere. It's dog friendly, and the staff are fantastic - especially Charlie who will always brighten your day without fail.

Absolutely fantastic service and even better food! Charlie was an absolute gem and is a credit to the company. Fantastic selection of bagels, brunch items and coffees/teas/alternative drinks.

Always a lovely chilled atmosphere at The Vanilla Tree. On this occasion there were no dairy and egg free sweet bakes but I loved my slated beef and mustard fresh bagel. Sadly none of the bagels are gluten free so not safe for my daughter but there is sometimes the odd cake that's okay. The decor is lovely and adds to the atmosphere. A truly lovely local favourite.

The best lunch spot in bedford. Food was amazing and the staff are so friendly!! I had the Salmon Cream Cheese bagel with a Dirty Chai Latte and my Dad had the Salt Beef Bagel with a Latte and we were both mesmerised by how good it was!! Will definitely return and bring my friends!!

Nice coffee space in Bedford. Dog friendly 👍🏼. Vibrant feel. Hot chocolate was delicious enjoyed eating the marshmallows and cream. Bagel was ok but a little bit tough.

This is a staple favourite of ours when we’re in Bedford. Great for working, having lunch, staff are friendly, bagels are delicious. I just have one request - please bring back the lox bagel! That was so good!

Great coffee and cakes, have been several times but sadly we are put off by the 'sauna' atmosphere. Windows steamed up with condensation running down them - even early in the day - and way too hot inside because of this. Air con would fix this.

Just had the best bagel of my life in here! Incredible. So glad they offered it with cheddar as I really am not a fan of Emmental. Really great vibe in there too, highly recommend.

Tried a spot of lunch here. We had the eggy bread with maple syrup and bacon, bagel with scrambled eggs and the salt beef bagel. All were great. Certainly can’t fault the swift arrival of our food and drink to our table. This place seems to have cornered the bagel market in these parts, so you won’t be disappointed if that’s what you’re looking for. It’s good to support local businesses! Just wish they would stay open till 4 on a Saturday again, instead of 3, then we’d come in for mid afternoon coffee…

We are daily coffee bar customers and can honestly say this one is tops for us. The quality of food and drinks is amazingly good. Staff are efficient and friendly. Definitely will make it a regular. Thank you for producing goodness.

The coffee is very good - hence the score of 4, and the staff are friendly but as a vegetarian i found the smell of cooking bacon rather overwhelming. I completely appreciate this is a personal thing but for me it did spoil it and I wouldn’t go again sadly. If you don’t mind that though the coffee is very good.

Perhaps a bit pricey for the portion size. But the service and atmosphere was very good.

Great find in Hendon. Super quaint inside, the food menu is excellent - best hummus I've had in a while and the Sunny Hill tea infusion is really comforting. All at a great price and service is always welcoming and warm.

Can't help but go back again and again for the BEST bagels. Great place to meet or work with great coffee and fresh cakes too (check out the chocolate stout cake).

Lovely staff everyone is super friendly and welcoming. The coffee is amazing and locally roasted. Most of the ingredients are either prepared in house or are sorced locally and the bagles are fresh everyday. The food here is truly delightful and each unique dish they offer will not disappoint. Cant say enough good things really definitely a must visit when your around the town centre.

With the exception of Yummy Mummies table blocking this is a wonderful, warm cafe and the bagels are excellent

Great food, great staff & great coffee! Whether you’re just after a quick coffee, looking for a lunch with a difference, or maybe want to treat yourself to a different breakfast, this could be somewhere well worth checking out. The staff always seem happy and welcoming. It may take you a little while to familiarise yourself with the full menu, festooned blackboard style across a few walls. There should be something for everyone, ranging from breakfasts, coffees, smoothies, the obligatory cakes etc to deli style sandwiches. Around the colder months, don’t be put off by the fogged up windows and see if there’s a table free (they do take away too). Can highly recommend the french toast with bacon & maple syrup!

The matrimony of flavours that come together after just the first bite is enough to come back for more! Absolutely love the fresh new decal of the shop. A bright yellow surge of refreshment to lighten up a bustling street of local businesses. Absolutely love to see an independent establishment serve such amazing flavours. Much better food and service than the larger conglomerates!

Only recently moved to Bedford and have been here a few times already. The staff are so lovely and welcoming and the coffee and food is delicious! Definitely my new regular!

Went for an early breakfast with a friend. We both had the salmon and egg bagel which was delicious! I had a vegan chocolate milkshake with an added shot of coffee which was also nice and refreshing. My friend said her latte was nice too. Staff all friendly and polite, wish I was local to go more often! They have vegan options too and baked treats at counter.

Been coming here since it opened. Epic coffee + bagels with such a great selection of cakes too. Such a friendly bunch of staff who are very good at what they do.

This coffee shop has it all; Delicious coffee, hand crafted bagels, local produce, arty hipster vibes and the staff are welcoming, well trained and the best. It’s the only place for coffee and bagels in Bedford. Luke

I'm an avid coffee drinker and frequently visit all the cafes in Bedford. I tell myself time and time again, let me just try Vanilla Tree again as they mustn't be as bad as I remember them being-and each and every time they disappoint. The staff are very obnxious and it feels as though you are interrupting them when you're the customer. It looks great and in a very good location, but it's so disappointing that the staff make you feel like you mean nothing to them.

A smal but delightful cafe, kept with the original wood flooring, Vanilla Tree is a cosy and comfortable place to visit. Home made bagels with salmon and scrambled eggs were delicious and it was a real delight to be served a pot of loose leafAssam tea, a treat in these days of the hated teabag in a cup. A range of delicious pastries to follow gave us much pause but the Portugese tart and Victoria sponge chosen were fabulous. The young staff were absolutely lovely and we were shocked to discover how long our visit ran to, because at no time were we led to feel we had overstayed our welcome. Will definitely be doing a return visit soon.

Food is good. Coffee is good. Someone had the "bright" idea to paint the shop front near fluorescent YELLOW. I'm sorry, but it's an eye sore. I guess it's easier to find now.

Ok so the reuben bagel is DELICIOUS. Purchased a few times now as takeaway and as eat-in. Fit. Also for breakfast scrambled eggs with chorizo on a bagel is surprisingly the best combo ever. The coffee is lovely, and not an add-on - I've had many coffee catch ups with friends here, often accompanied with a brownie. There's a small outdoor seating area for the summer, but the interior is exactly how I love coffee shops: Charming, eclectic, comfy, rustic. And finally... the people are truly lovely which is the cherry on top of the fit bagel. PS they do non-bagel related food too lol.

5*. Excellent, locally roasted coffee. An interesting and well executed variety of brunch and lunch bagels/sandwiches. The bagels themselves are made in-house and are spectacular. Fresh, homemade cakes and other treats (the cinnamon challah is a personal favourite). The best coffee shop in Bedford alongside Longholme. Unmissable.
