What a find! Not familiar with the area we found this on TripAdvisor. A small traditional pub, with small local bar and restaurant and a welcoming landlord. The menu is small but that didn't put us off, having a good choice of traditional meals such as lasagne, fish, and burgers, and we all found something we liked. All the meals are cooked fresh and they were happy to alter the pizza toppings for my son. The chicken in BBQ sauce was delicious and came with home cooked chips and onion rings. Service was excellent, and the landlord and waiting staff very friendly and quick serving. Will definitely visit again if in the area

From the friendly welcome when you arrive until you finally leave, this is a lovely evening, well spent. The food is well cooked and presented. A small menu, but still plenty of choice. We loved it so much that we returned the following evening - and the next!

Very accommodating, we hadnt reserved a table but when we rang, they managed to sort us out even though they were busy. Food was excellent, fresh and piping hot. It definitely was freshly cooked food. Service was brilliant and very friendly. We were looked after by Alex who served our food & drinks with a lovely smile. Definitely a place to visit.

Luckily managed to reserve a table for Sunday lunch and had a superb meal- including good choice for vegetarian alternative which was far better than standard nut roast. Would definitely recommend.

We visited here with my parents on Wednesday evening. The bar was full of chattering locals and we were shown to our table in the restaurant. We had tried to book online but this was not successful; my husband rang and tried to book but no answer so left a message which wasn’t returned. This was the only downside- the booking process was not easy. Eventually we got through to the pub and were we told a table was available. I’m so glad we persevered as we received such a lovely welcome and the food was superb. I had the curry special- huge chunks of tender chicken in a rich sauce served with a Welsh favourite of ‘half n half’ plus poppadom and drink for £11. Really good value. My husband had a wonderful steak and my parents opted for gammon and scampi. All in all the meal was great. We will definitely return and hope to try their breakfasts which are rumoured to be just wonderful.

After a longish absence we had Sunday lunch at the Vale of Aeron yesterday and it was absolutely fantastic. We both had the beef dinner and custard slice with poached rhubarb and we cannot fault it. The mashed potatoes were the best ever, the carrots - delicious, and the cauliflower cheese was perfect. We've had a few Sunday lunches out recently and although we've had no complaints about the others, this was the best. Looking forward to trying the new restaurant in Aberaeron.

Hands down the best roast in wales. Creamy mash potato that will leave you craving more. I didn’t really want to leave a review because it’s hard enough getting a table as it is. It’s the jewel of the Nile if you can find it. Good friendly staff, relaxed farm house pub feel inside. Highly recommend but special occasions only and booking highly advisable or there will be rugby tackles and musical chairs. Make a visit if you can- you won’t be disappointed and you’ll make the place home at every visit. ❤️❤️❤️Don’t go when pregnant- my pregnant sister craved their steak and cauliflower cheese and gained around four stone. She’s now been barred!!!!

The food is just too good and I really don’t want to advertise because it’s hard to get a seat there’s as it is. Friendly staff and locals. Food is spot on every time- extremely delish. Worth a visit if your passing but remember it’s a hidden gem. People fight to get in. Gordon ramsey would melt with the food here. Worth every penny and more. Five star food to say the least. Basket meals from £4 at the bar you really can’t go wrong. All the family are welcome. Kids aren’t told off- there’s a garden play area and your welcome all day every day. You will love the place!!!

I cannot say enough positives about this pub resteraunt. But here goes. The menu is interesting and the food incredible. All the staff are lovely and attentive, a great Welsh gem awaits. Be prepared for a large meal however because the portions are not stingy yet amazingly prepared and cooked. We are a family of 9 with 2 children and an infant all catered for superbly. We visited the Vale of Aeron on Friday evening. They accommodated us easily, having pre-ordered the evening before. There were other people in for food, but they managed to serve the starters quickly. The food was absolutely excellent, all three courses. The sticky toffee pudding is probably the best I have had anywhere, simply stunning. I would recommend this place to anybody, service was excellent, everything. We had a lovely evening. All very reasonably priced, especially for the quality.

Already knowing that the Vale provides lovely food, including fabulous Sunday lunches, when the menu for Valentines night came out we booked straightaway - and were not disappointed. At £22 for three courses, we had Asparagus, Parmesan, hollandaise and poached egg to start; Mushroom and Perl Las bake/Featherblade steak for main and the raspberry and elderflower trifle with raspberry doughnuts for sweet. The food was really tasty - and we should really have had two courses, they were very filling, but the menu was too nice! The service, as always was excellent. There are special dinner nights quite regularly, really worth going along. Can't fault it - never a disappointment.

We went to the Vale of Aeron for food as we were on holiday staying locally. It is obviously a hub for local life. The bar had a good turnout of people in need of a drink after a week's work. The restaurant was open from 6pm and we had a very warm welcome. There was also a games room with a pool table and several machines etc. The bar was a little restricted in choice but the price for a pint and a large glass of wine was £6.20 and the pint of Coors was outstanding as all the pints appeared to be. No dirty pipes here. The food was fantastic value. My daughter had lasagne that she really enjoyed and starters were priced at around £4. I had pork crackling with apple sauce which was different and tasty. My wife and i both had chicken curry for our mains. Great value at £8.95 each which included curry, rice, chips, nann bread, popadum and mango chutney. Chips were home cooked and delicious. Overall it was a delicious meal and good value I would recommend this place to anyone and yes the chatter of Welsh in the bar added character and also reminded me of my childhood - wonderful evening.

As we were staying down the road, we paid the pub a quick visit to see what's what. A bit disappointed there was no ale being served, just the usual mass produced offerings. So Guinness it was, which was fine. We didn't stop for food although we heard nothing but praise for the meals while we were there.

This is a great local pub and restaurant with a really friendly atmosphere. The whole menu is freshly cooked and you can tell it's made with love. Everything we have tried has been beautiful and the home made desserts are to die for. Dan is really a great chef and Collette is an efficient waitress and great behind the bar too. Nothing here is too much trouble for either of them. Every eventuality is catered for with a smile. Will go back time and time again for the Summer Grill and Curry Nights. The Sunday roast is a real winner too. There is something for everyone and families are happily catered for too.

Took the family here for Sunday dinner whilst staying locally in West Wales. We have to say this is the perfect example of a pub, the food was also spot on, it was the best Sunday roast I have ever had out. The food is real food, excellently executed... Where we live there are far too many examples of corporate run pubs, with swanky decor, poor food and miserable staff. I would come here in a heart beat over every pub near me if I lived local to here. The staff, and locals could have not been more welcoming, and my entire family have spoke of the experience having dinner here far surpassing anything we are used too. The staff laughed and teased with my children that they needed to wash up which they found hilarious, and I got chatting to some of the locals. I doubt there is a friendlier pub in the land, and a hat tip to the chef too... Sterling! This is exactly what a pub should be, and I'm happy that we found this place and that there are still true pubs about! 5****

My partner and I called here for Sunday lunch on our way home after a night in Aberaeron, and what a wonderful way to finish our weekend! This lovely old pub was full of atmosphere and the friendly staff gave us a very warm welcome. We both had the beef dinner and it was one of the best I've ever had. The meat was beautifully tender and tasty, the mashed potatoes smooth and creamy, the carrots perfectly cooked and glazed and the cauliflower cheese nicely presented in individual dishes. It was all delicious! I couldn't manage a pudding but my partner had the cheesecake which came with a raspberry sorbet. it was the best cheesecake he's ever had and I can personally say that the sorbet was perfectly refreshing!!! Thank you so much. We will definitely make a special journey from Carmarthen just to dine at the Vale of Aeron again.

We called into the Black Lion in Aberaeron about 2:30 for some lunch. The two of us, plus our granddaughter and the dog. I asked if we were ok to bring the dog in and was told he was more that welcome. He got served before us as once we were seated they brought him a bowl of water! We ordered drinks and food. The food was exceptional. (We asked for and was given a takeaway container to take what we didn't eat home, it was that nice. We would 100% recommend going there, and will be visiting again ourselves. Very friendly and helpful staff (all three of the ones who we spoke to) 6 stars all the way as I can't give a 5 plus.
