Urban Fresh Ely in East Cambridgeshire

I took my mother here for breakfast on Mother’s Day. There's a great selection on the menu and the coffee is fresh and so good we had two with our breakfast! Service is exceptional and relaxed. Décor is very attractive and stylish too. Will definitely return!

WARNING AVOID : DISAPPOINTING MEAL AND MEAN BEHAVIOUR BY MANAGER JESS AND DAISY : I visited this restaurant for lunch on 6th March with a small group . Apparently I had put down a transparent wallet type holder with blue Diary in on the table ; when I went to the loo at the end of the meal . It was not there when I returned to collect my jacket & walking pole . It had been swooped up by a staff member . There was a message on Whats App from meal organiser later that day , that diary had been collected . I had forgotten about it until I saw the message . The next day I phoned up , speaking to Daisy and asked if they could post the diary to me as it was quite a difficult journey to return to restaurant . I assured her I would reinburse postage when received . A few days passed , no Diary returned , so I phoned to enquire speaking to Daisy again . She replied they had been busy . This happened a couple more times . Then on 15th March I asked to speak to the Manager ( after Daisy ) I explained that Diary had important Medical Appointments etc in . Jess the Manager assurred me - that she had posted it that morning - WHAT A COINCIDENCE ! I thanked her in advance ! A week later still no sighting of Diary . It seems very mean that the Diary has not been returned , especially after been told it had been posted Next excuse probably LOST IN THE POST . MORAL OF THE STORY KEEP A TIGHT GRIP OF POSSESSIONS IN THAT RESTAURANT , OR ALTERNATIVELY DON’T BOTHER GOING THERE . WARNING : WHEN DAISY COMES ROUND WITH A SMILE ASKING IF EVERYTHING IS OK . AND YOU MENTION CHIPS NOT VERY HOT , PALE AND ANAEMIC  . CERTAINLY NOT GOLDEN BROWN . SHE KINDLY OFFERS ANOTHER BOWL , HOWEVER ONLY SLIGHTLY IMPROVED VERSION . WATCH OUT THEY ADD AN EXTRA £6 TO ALREADY INFLATED BILL .

Initially, very friendly service from the staff. Welcomed on a really cold evening. Only had mains so can only judge on those. Friend had lamb which he said was okay. I went for the ‘ bacalao’. What arrived was a battered fillet of fish similar to one in a chip shop. The fish inside was unseasoned. Bacalao is not just cod, it is salt cod. I know that the restaurant is not actually Hispanic but their take on the dish should be involve a little more. Portions looked generous when seeing other diners dishes.

Dined on a Friday night couple of weeks ago with the wife. Two young ladies serving were very friendly and smiley- and had great recommendations for the menu. Had pork taco and wife had paella. Will definitely return, best food we’ve had out in Ely

Unfortunately there are very limited eateries in Ely, certainly in january. The meal was certainly better than at the poets house where we stayed. So this came as a pleasant surprise, the place was very busy, probably as they had a 25% off food in jan. Cocktail was lovely as was the service. Fish taco starter was dry Pil pil prawns were nice Both had lamb mains which were ordinary. The bar we set generally is could we make nicer at home and we felt we could. We enjoy food but by no means are chefs. Certainly the best place in Ely we found but avoid Ely and stay in cambridge, sorry harsh but true.

Whatever you do, do not order the so called Paella - it’s absolutely atrocious. I know that saffron is an expensive ingredient and hard to come by in this country, but every time I visit Spain, I buy a small amount to use when I make Paella at home. It’s really not that big a deal or even all that expensive, as you don’t even need that much when used properly, so I would expect that a gastro business can easily get hold of it. I guarantee you that their Paella contained zero saffron. It really should’t have been called Paella at all, as it was more like some sort of gloopy yellow coloured risotto. I suspect they dyed it yellow using turmeric. On top of that, it was really not very flavoursome at all, as I said, more like a risotto, so mostly rice based. I do appreciate that they’re not trying to offer authentic Spanish or Hispanic food, but they shouldn’t be misleading in the description of their dishes. Give it a different name, call it “Spanish-Fusion Rice Dish” or something like that so you don’t scam your customers.

Great spot of lunch down the road! I finally tried urban fresh despite living only 30 seconds walk away for years and I was very impressed and wish I had visited sooner. Super service from start to finish. Delicious food and immaculate restaurant. Definitely going to recommend to everyone

We recently attended a Christmas gathering at Urban Fresh with a group of around 50 people, and we were absolutely impressed! From start to finish, the service was flawless. Everything ran so smoothly, which is no small feat with a group of this size. The staff were incredibly friendly, accommodating, and attentive throughout the evening. The food was very nice and beautifully presented—each dish looked and tasted fantastic. It’s clear they put a lot of care into both the service and the dining experience. In the past, we’ve been to restaurants with smaller groups (around 20 people) and had issues, but Urban Fresh exceeded all expectations. Highly recommend for group events or even just a nice evening out. Fantastic experience all around!

Visited Urban fresh in a family group of 17 -. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We didn't have to wait long for food and were all served together . The food was tasty and enjoyed by everyone . We were not rushed and service was good .

What a fabulous Restaurant, stunning location in the wonderful City of Ely, wonderful diverse menu, food that could not be faulted, all served by truly lovely staff who really make this restaurant 5 star.

Visited last night for dinner. We have been before but not for a while. Had a fabulous meal with excellent service and a great atmosphere. Now our favourite restaurant in Ely.

We were a party of 8 people, although this was the 3rd visit for my wife and I. I can honestly say that I thought it was impossible to improve on perfection, how wrong can one be, all 8 different meals came out perfectly cooked and presented great on the plate, once again fantastic service very obliging staff and fantastic food, we will be back, thank you urban fresh.

Great Sunday evening meal. Food is superb. My King Prawn tortillas were fab and wife's grilled chicken delicious. Argentinian apple pie to share was scrumptious! Bonus with corner window seat overlooking river. Friendly staff. Also great spot for people/boat/river watching outside with just drinks, if weather is good enough. Definitely will be back next time in Ely.

We were fortunate to visit Ely for a few days during the brief spell of warm sunny weather we had recently. We visited a few restaurants for dinner, but this one came out best. Lovely location on the bank of the Great Ouse, we were fortunate to get a table on the edge overlooking the river. The food was very good - my partner enjoyed her Paella, personally I would recommend the Moqueca, a Brazilian style fish stew. They have an interesting range of dishes and although a little more expensive, it is a significant improvement on the standard pub fare. The service was good, but I suspect it gets busy at weekends.

This restaurant, with a South American theme and a good ambiance, has a lovely location beside the river. The menu offered an excellent choice and the food was very good. The service was very friendly and efficient. Six of us came for a Birthday dinner here before Christmas and enjoyed it so much that seven of us came for a ‘farewell dinner’ before we went our separate ways after Christmas and New Year.

We had our works Christmas party here (there was 14 of us). The staff were amazing, cocktails were delicious and the food was spot on. It’s the best food we’ve had on a Christmas party in a very long time!

10/10! We had our first visit on a Saturday lunchtime, and it definitely won't be our last. The Chicken and Avocado taco was delicious. And the festive roast was like nothing I have ever tried before! So many gorgeous flavours. I need to go back for the Waygu burger. The service is great, the restaurant has lovely decor and very clean. A great addition to Ely!

We had a fantastic meal at Urban Fresh. Honestly, one of the best restaurants we’ve eaten at for a long time. Service was great, the team were all really friendly and there was a great atmosphere. Ruby was so welcoming and helpful, and we were given two glasses of Prosecco on the house as I’d mentioned it was our anniversary when booking - a lovely and unexpected touch! The restaurant was full when we arrived at 7.30pm on a Saturday, I’d definitely recommend booking. My boyfriend ordered the fish taco to start and the wagyu burger. I had the cheese fondue and the paella. It was all delicious, and my (slightly tipsy) boyfriend must have told me about 20 times (and anyone else listening) that it was the best burger he’s ever eaten. I tried some and can concur (soberly) that it really was amazing! We had the spiced apple cake and churros for deserts. The apple cake was just perfect. Definitely order it!! Overall, it was a great meal and as we were staying literally next door at the Riverside Inn, perfect location!

Lovely location on the river front of the Great Ouse with both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff got to us quickly and we're helpful and able to answer questions about the menu. Food arrived piping hot even though they were busy and it was very tasty.

A complete, enjoyable experience. Restaurant also dealing with a function. Service very pleasant and helpful, food of above average quality. Service appears effortless, but efficient. Thank you. Look forward to returning in weeks/ months.

Poped in on the off chance and was given a lovely table overlooking the river.The service was excellent and the food was excellent look at the photos what a lovey fresh bowl of food . We would highly recommend a visit to this restaurant good luck Tony and Karen

Food was fantastic, my steak was cooked perfectly and the staff were very attentive I have been twice now and will soon go back.

Was looking for a place to bite something lite, didn’t expect anything amazing as all places next to the river it’s actually rubbish when it comes to the food. Not here! It was absolutely amazing, fresh, tasty. Just delicious 🤤 and the portions were huge. Friendly staff, nice garden. Highly recommend and I will definitely gonna be back.

Great staff, welcoming and looked after us impeccably. Food was amazing wish we had tried the dessert. Thank you to head chef Gareth and staff for looking after us will definitely be back soon :0)

They do not make the most of this location. No menus on tables. Not especially welcoming. £10 for bowl of muesli with fruit. This place could be so much better with switched on staff, greeting you, water bowls for dogs filled and perhaps some tubs of summer flowers or something on the tables. Earlier in the year we tried to get an early supper here only to be told the chef had gone home as the kitchen was too hot! It is amazing kitchens in Spain and Portugal manage to exist.

We had an exceptionally good meal at Urban Fresh Ely this week, made all the more enjoyable by being served by the delightful and very attentive waitress, who was friendly, efficient and very helpful.

We had a lovely evening here with my son and his girlfriend who live in Ely. Loved the choice on the menu and we were all happy with our meals. Really good food, and a good choice of wine too. The staff who served us were all really nice, helpful and friendly - two names I remember were Zosha and Madden (hope I've remembered them correctly).
