We had an amazing time. The food was lovely, it felt like being on holiday. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely come back again in the future.

This was our first time at a polish restaurant. The dishes were generous, tasty and authentic. The service topped off an excellent dining experience for us. We would absolutely return to Newmarket just to go to Under the Eagle. Highly rated!

This is such a lovely little restaurant lovingly decked out to resemble a traditional wooden hut in the Polish forest. The service was fantastic and the food was equally as good. It was just nice to try something a bit different for a change and we’d happily recommend Polish cuisine after dining here.

Restaurant was well over priced for a start 25£ for a small bit of meat that did not taste one bit like anything and 15 chips and loads of rocket .Later that night I was really sick , resulting in me going to the doctors and told I have a really bad case of some sort of food poison or E Coli . Never will visit again and would recommend anyone going there . Don’t know where they got meat from or how they cooked it but not safe to eat there

Back again!!! This Polish restaurant is so good, food was amazing as normal! Hunter’s stew for starters. The dumplings or pirogies were so so good. The Deer-steak my husband ordered was great and dessert outstanding. With a few drinks on top of it.

Had a great evening meal at Under the Eagle with my family. Great choice of starters, main courses, deserts and drinks. Some of the best pierogi I have had for a long time! Food came quickly and we were very well looked after by our waitress Natalia. Beautifully decorated inside too. We will be back!

What an excellent evening, we were made very welcome on the phone when we booked and from the moment we walked through the door.Shown to a table and then offered a bigger table which came free just before we ordered.Waiter (Mateusz) was very patient with us, explained the menu, offered tasters of wine and suggested beer.When we ordered food again we were guided and advisedThe food was very well presented, fresh and full of flavour We had a very enjoyable evening, a great shame the restaurant wasn’t busier as it should be, give it a try, you won’t be disappointed

Being a fan of the food of Club Polonia, I was extremely happy to find another polish restaurant nearby serving food as good as if not better than that if Polonia. The restaurant had a very kitsch feel trying to make it look like a hut out in the mountains, but I can’t fault the homely feel to it and the fantastic service that you receive. The food is of excellent quality and good size portion! Kids meals are a decent size too. I highly recommend you visit this restaurant to taste polish cuisine which is amazing!

Really friendly staff, great ambience and super food. What else could you ask for? As others have said, the food portions are good, but most importantly all the dishes we tried were really tasty and well presented.

Great food, we specially enjoyed the Sour Rye soup and Bigos - just right for lunch on a chilly November day! Excellent service, with a most helpful and friendly waitress.

I think we were the only native English in the place (unless the others were English but all spoke Polish).The service is excellent ,the menu appears authentic,the cooking is sound and the portions are large. Unless you are capable of tackling a mighty plate full of food share a three course set meal between the two of you (if you were going as a single take a friend).

Had a lovely dinner at Under the Eagle on Sunday to celebrate my husband's birthday. Very friendly service and excellent food: we had the set menu. The meat was tender, the portions very generous. We could not eat it all but the waitress kindly offered us to put it in a takeaway box for us. It saved us cooking the next day and was still just as good.

Definitely we're going to be back for the wild boar knuckle, that unfortunately run out, before we've arrived. Fantastic service. Great food.

For a night out with my Husband I wanted to try something completely different and this was it! The restaurant itself was fun to be in, very light and airy with wooden hand carved seats and a stunning mural on the wall and dotted about the rooms, Polish costumes. The Lady who served us showed the correct level of interest in us, our meal choices and through out the meal, she was attentive but not overly so. Our food was delicious. I had the Wild Board Knuckle served with potatoes and cabbage. The sweetness of the meat went so well with the cabbage. Hubby had the grilled deer steak with the mushroom sauce and raved about it, the mushroom sauce had a tang to it that went so well with the meat. Personally I had no room left for dessert but my husband is always tempted by a nice apple pie! The owner (I guess) knew that desserts are always shared and very thoughtfully brought two spoons! Again this was delicious with a beautiful vanilla edge to it. We will return again for sure!

First visit and definitely not last one! Nice small restaurant with really good atmosphere and unbelievable delicious food! We was so much hungry and I’ve just done pic of my soup! But main and dessert also fabulous! We spend here such a nice marriage anniversary! Definitely Recommend!

I'd been keen to try this restaurant for a while, having really enjoyed good Polish country-style food at a restaurant in Warsaw a few times. Although that restaurant was MUCH larger than this one, the experience here in Newmarket was really good too. You will most likely hear Polish being spoken around too - some from the staff and most likely customers as well. Really interesting meats - wild boar, venison etc. on the menu, and some weekend specials that aren't available Monday to Friday (note to self - visit on a weekend sometime and try them). Portion size was on the large side (I remember that from Warsaw too)... and actually we were discussing the morning after eating that we could probably have shared one of the wonderful platter starters and one main between two of us and been satisfied. Interesting semi-sweet red Romanian wine (clearly made for the Polish market) on the menu - not particularly to my taste but glad to have tried it.Very friendly and helpful service.

My husband and we were very happy to find polish restaurant and we weren’t disappointed! I’ve never tasted such an amazing dumplings and so soft and tender wild meat cooked to perfection! But there is space for improvement, we would love to see bread with snack “board” and little bit bigger portions (especially dessert) and size of the toilet can be an issue. Over all really nice and I am hoping to return and btw! Customer service absolutely excellent, ladies you are doing amazing job!!!! Thank you for such a lovely experience!

Found this restaurant by accident when visiting Newmarket. The food was excellent, as was the service. Well worth a visit.

I have been going to this restaurant and the shop next door for years. I have taken my brother, my sister, my English friends and it has always been excellent. On this particular day, 29/05/19 my starter was in edible. It was not venison pate, it was coloured bread pate - no flavour whatsoever. I had one mothful and sent it back saying just that. We were charged for it. Because the cook - I haven't called him a Chef deliberately - said there was nothbing wrong with it. Absolutely disgusted with this treatment of loyal customers - it was my second visit that day too!! Only go if you are prepared to pay for what you don't eat.

What a great place!!! Real food freshly cooked and reasonably priced. The next time I am in Newmarket I will return as the ambiance and staff only enhance the place. A must visit when in Newmarket as it will keep you away from boring chains and give you infinitely better food.

We visited this establishment on Saturday as a family after a day out nearby. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, the menu is varied and different and we enjoyed eating there. It is good value for money and would recommend this to everyone

Unfortunatelly they did big mistake and after a great start they start get worse.. We stop going there after last couple times they dissapointed us with food that taste and look like re hited dinner from last sunday.. On beagining when they opened food was great fresh and tasty but that changed and unfortunatelly we stop going there..

We stumbled cross this restaurant quite by accident (which is usually the best way in my experience) and thought the menu looked interesting. It was closed at the time (we were out early) so we returned the next Saturday. We both had the weekend special (grilled sausage & fried onions followed by roasted rabbit). Actually the stand-out was the sausage. Just now and then one comes across a really simple dish that "just works". This is one. he rabbit was also excellent - not had roast rabbit for ages (I always casserole them but when we were kids my mum used to roast them occasionally for a change). We really enjoyed the meal and the service and general "feel" of the place is excellent. We enjoyed it so much that we returned a couple of weeks later with friends. If you are fond of game dishes this place is a must. The starters are excellent (I had the Polish snack plate - cheese, three sorts of sausage, pickled herring) and the wild boar knuckle. My wife had game dumpling and our friends a venison steak and boar cutlet. There was plenty, and it was all very good. Deserts are quite simple but they finish off the meal very well. We will definitely go again even though it is not exactly local - good food is worth travelling for. It is soooo nearly a five overall.

Staff at that place is really kind and friendly I wish all restaurants staff are like that. Delicious food. For that quality time of serve is perfect. I would like to recommend for everybody to visit that place. The best Polish cuisine I been to so far.

I worked in the restaurant as a contractor and smelled some very nice aromas coming from the kitchen so decided to take my family out and try some of the dishes. Firstly, the entire menu revolves around well sourced wild meat which is unique and impressive on its own.

We've used this restaurant twice for family occasions, doing the party menu as well as lots of lunches/dinners. The party option gives a great selection of traditional food, just like at an event in Poland. Loads of food. The normal menu of wild meats gives a great change from what you will find anywhere else, in an atmosphere that make you feel like you're away in the mountains.

This is a "new" restaurant in Newmarket and provides an outstanding experience. The restaurant has ambience and the Polish/East European staff are polite, hardworking and friendly. The cuisine is Polish/East European and we were surprised at the range of meat dishes which are extremely well sourced. The "wild" in boar or venison means "wild and gamey" which can be rarely found in UK restaurants of today, where food has been sanitised to the exclusion of taste & experience. You can eat and drink at "Under the Eagle" at very reasonable prices. We much enjoyed our evening experience and cannot wait to return. We have but one recommendation. There is a wide range of bottled and vat beer (and off course Vodka) which is wonderful but the wine list needs some dry reds added. We realise that East European tastes are often towards half-dry wines but those strong meat flavours require Romanian & Bulgarian cabernet sauvignons/merlots and pinot noirs to accompany such dishes.

We had an amazing dinner tonight to celebrate my birthday. Waitress was so lovely and helpful, not even mention about the food. We tried wild meat for the first time, but it was so worth it! Especially wild boar knuckle was so delicious....And the best Cosmopolitan ever!!!!! Definitely recommend and we can't wait to come back

We came here as it was a bit different to the usual dining out cuisine. Well worth it! The duck and pork knuckle were both delicious and the service was great. Delicious and unique flavours. Well worth a visit!!

We parked up in Newmarket on the way back from Norfolk to London. I had looked on TripAdvisor and we were going to walk to the main street to find somewhere to eat mid afternoon- we happened upon this restaurant in a small shopping arcade. How lucky! The food is warming, tastes good and you get a real Nordic feel with the ambience of the place. It was nice to eat something different after the usual Christmas fare- we all enjoyed what we ate (can't remember what we chose), and we even stayed for dessert.

My partner and I stumbled upon this very lovely, quaint Polish restaurant by chance and we are so glad we did! The food was amazing - we ordered meat dumplings, potato pancakes and sides of salad and fried cabbage, and we thoroughly enjoyed every last bite. The service was excellent too, very welcoming and friendly. We have discovered that we love Polish food and we will be back!

Stopped in for lunch. This was our 4th time there, good service, excellent food. I think it is good value, but everyone has a different budget. I would recommend to anyone who likes Polish food. Very filling.

There's quite a few Polish restaurants in East Anglia region, but the fame of Under The Eagle (Pod Orłem) in Newmarket has spread far and wide, so we decided to check it out, even if it took an hour drive from our Ipswich. Restaurant hasn't got it's own car park, but there's plenty of car parks (paid) just behind the passage the restaurant is located in. Yeah, the passage - close to Newmarket high street, yet still invisible... It takes some effort to find it. Interior designer tried to get restaurant customers as close back to Poland, as possible, with many gadgets and familiar colours. It wasn't that busy on late autumn night, so we were quick to order and our orders materialised very quickly. It was probably best Polish food I had in England. Definitelly worth visit, not only for Polish expats, but for any nationals. And we will be back for sure.

Every visit to this 'little Polish gem' of a restaurant has been pleasurable. A wide choice of delicious and plentiful Polish food (with a twist) on the menu at very reasonable prices and excellent service from an attentive waitress in traditional Polish costume. The ambiance is in the style of a Hunting Lodge with interesting decoration and a lovely warm wooded surround. Licenced, with a wide range of alcohol and non alcoholic drinks. I would recommend the 'Zurek' soup as a starter as served in a wonderful hollowed bread bowl. Really worth a visit and very close to local town car park.

They've updated the menu since we last visited, many more options now. Prices are a little more expensive but I gather the food is all locally sourced or something.

Me and my partner found this hidden treasure, I had a traditional sour kraut and meat soup, as well as goulash and potato pancakes. The food was incredible and heart felt! The service was amazing. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants a taste of polish quisine and beer. Ps. The polish porter I had was awsome and we will be going back

We went last Friday evening, the food is lovely, nice to have choices of things you wouldn't eat at home and don't find in every other restaurant!

Visited on a Friday night Food and service was excellent. Anna does lovely cocktails, Perfect cosmopolitan good range and selection of menu choice. Will definitely be returning.

Amazing service, good sized portions and amazingly good quality of food. Waitress was very helpful and attentive. My husband and I were there with our Polish friend and he couldn’t recommend it enough. We got the cranberry sheep’s cheese dish for an appetizer which was superb. The potato pancakes and dumplings were spot on and the selection of beer was intriguing. Such a shame as we’ve lived in town for a year now and it’s only now our first time to try it. Not very crowded but it just seems like it’s overlooked. Fun Polish decor as well! Will be going back.

Tried this place for the first time this week. Was pleasantly surprised by how good the food and service were. I ordered the veggie special of the day: courgette soup and cabbage/mushroom croquette. Both were excellent, and very generous in size. My bf ordered the polish sausage stew in a bread bowl. He loved it. The staff were friendly and efficient. The price was very reasonable. We will go there again for sure.

We were in that amazing place few days ago. On start we had oscypek with cranberries and rockets salad and honey beer to drink Main meal- mix of pierogi , potato pancakes with goulash and pork knuckle. We finished with waffle with whipped cream and fruits, apple pie with ice cream and chocolate cake. They served delicious latte with raspberry and roasted almonds ☕️ It was our first visit but not last!!! We recommend that place

Byłam w tej restauracji jakiś czas temu. Wreszcie można było coś dobrego zjeść. Przemiła obsługa ubrana w nasze regionalne stroje, co wraz z wystrojem wnętrza oddaje klimat polskiej karczmy. Jedzenie bardzo smaczne. Porcje bardzo duże. Polecam żurek w chlebie. Rewelacja. Wspaniale jest wybrać się na oglądanie meczu. Wtedy to jest super atmosfera. Zdecydowanie polecam. Ja tam wrócę.

Wow it was just that. Not disappointed all four of us enjoyed our meal. The Polish mushroom soup was very good even it it was a little cold when served. We all said we would not hesitate in coming back.

When it was first opened food was very good for about a year.. but now its changed and its terrible.. real shame!! The only good thing about it is service waitresses are very friendly and nice in there!!But food let us down badly.. we had sausage for starter and it was very dry and look like it was sausage from the last day just reheated.. main wasn't better meat was dry.. only good thing about it was potatoes and fries which we liked.. sorry polish restaurant but the standard is dropping .. shame !

Possibly the worst food we have ever eaten. The specials of polish mushroom soup, wild boar and haunch of deer were terrible. The meat was dry and was harder to swallow than the three crackers in a minute challenge! We were really excited to try some new cuisine and were shocked with how terrible it was with such glow

I must say the food here was fantastic! The staff were warm and welcoming and the decoration of the restaurant is impressive. I thought it would be only polish people in here which I thought mite be a bit awkward as I don't speak the language, but I was stupid to be deterred in the past by something so silly! I will be back, and if your looking for a big eat I must add the portions are man size! The goulash was brilliant I came back the following week with my family and had the pork knuckle also brilliant!

This was my second time of eating here - this time for dinner in December. As a starter, my companion and I both chose the wonderful soup that is served in individual loaves of bread. Amazing! You have to experience it - it is a meal in itself! Unfortunately this meant that we then struggled to finish our main course - pierogi or dumplings, which are rather filling! The portions are generous and the service very friendly and attentive. One last thing - you must try the hot wine! It is delicious, especially on a cold winter's night...

I have been to this restaurant twice, and each time the food and service were excellent. I am a sucker for a well made and tasty pierogi. The pierogis here are delicious. Portion sizes are good, and the prices are reasonable. Come hungry, you won't want to miss this place.

We've eaten here numerous times already and everything has been fantastic. From the pork knuckle, to chicken roulade, to beef goulash w/ potato pancakes, and, of course, the pierogi. The staff is friendly and great with suggestions and the food is always amazing and fresh. They really take the time to care about the ingredients. Our son (16 month old) eats 3-4 pierogi each time we come. He just can't get enough either! Can't wait to visit again for some more authentic Polish food and great company.

This is such a splendid restaurant with a cosy atmosphere, The decor is warm and welcoming and makes you feel like your somewhere else like a little escape from reality, the hostess were very welcoming and very much part of the atmosphere, and well the food was amazing I personally didn't know what to expect but it was all just so good and the cocktails will definitely be back and will definitely be recommending, very well established restaurant In my eyes has it all.

Under the Eagle is one of our favorite restaurants, and when we were planning our wedding party, we knew we wanted some of the food to come from there. For £225, we got enough pierogi to feed 100 guests, and they were super popular. People were asking if they could take them home towards the end of the party. A lot of our guests had never had Polish food before, and were asking where we got the food so they could try the restaurant out for themselves.

We asked Under The Eagle to produce 450 dumplings for our wedding party! They were absolutely delicious and tasted exactly as they do in the restaurant. Anna was always quick to respond to e-mails and very polite. We eat here regularly, and cannot recommend it enough. Thanks :)

This is a great place, tucked out of the way just across from the Iceland supermarket. Visit here every few weeks with my wife and we've never had any complaints.The service is swift and the food is good. It's been a long time (20+ years) since I visited Poland but the food appears to be authentic enough.The draft beer always gives me a hangover, even after only a pint. They once suggested I tried vodka tea, which is pretty much as it sounds. Not sure I'd do it at home but it was nice accompaniment to the meal.My only complaint is that the portions are absolutely huge. It's almost impossible to have a main course and a dessert, let alone a starter too.

We enjoyed the periogi and the potato pancakes. Periogi were quite oily though but super yummy. Service was friendly and decor very particular. Shame that we didn't know about this place before.

The food was great! The lady who was serving us was very friendly and helpful. Mountaineer house makes you feel warm and the music - you just want to stand up and dance...I was happy even more as I am from mountainous region in Poland so for me that was a taste of home...We will come back for sure!

Wystroj restauracji powala na kolana od samego progu. Wood everywhere and climatic music makes me feel like I would be in Poland :) delicious Polish bread with lard and cucumbers and potato pancakes with beef goulash fulfilled my expectations 100%. We went back again, taking family this time and they loved it as much as us! We were a bit worried as they know a lot more about Polish food than us but we shouldn't have been - they said it was delicious!Three starters between four was plenty and then a main each.Only disappointed they had run out of the apple pie!

What a discovery we made last Friday. Wandering through Newmarket looking for somewhere for lunch and not wanting the usual pub/chain restaurant fare.The welcome, food and decor transported us to Poland.Fabulous food and will definitely go back to try some other dishes.

Our first taste of Polish food was great!.Liked the look of everything on the menu and had a great starter and main.Our waitress was very helpful and service was fast.Can't wait to come back and try something else of the menu!

My boyfriend and i visited for valentines and they had a special set menu or you could order anything of their normal menu. It was so cure. They did little things that made you feel special. Our waitress was adorable and very pite and helpful and the food was gorgeous! Definitely reccomend!

Waitress are very welcome but kitchen wish be better. I do understand that sometimes we had a crazy days but if your customer should wait for food 2 hours they should informed about this before take an order.

Finally yesterday we had an opportunity to visit this restaurant. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who sat us down and handed the menus. It was great to see the photos of the food as we did not know what to expect. The restaurant was quiet but the décor was cosy. We ordered a few starters and they did not disappoint. I loved zurek served in bread, it was so fresh and tasty. We also enjoyed mixed dumplings, my favourite by far were cabbage and mushroom. The portions are big and filling. I can't wait to go back and try Bigos and other things! Thank you

Had their set 2 course menu and it was very nice and very filling. Also for £9.99 very good value for money. Interesting decor the full goat skin with hoofs on the wall a bit off putting. Staff friendly as well. Will be coming back.

I took my Grandmother out to Lunch and this was her first time trying Polish food. The food was delicious (and there was lots of it!) Staff were very friendly, hospitable and welcoming.I was very happy with my visit to the restaurant and can't wait to visit again very, very soon.

Jedzenie na duzy + brawo dla kucharza ,nalezy mu sie premia swiateczna ,za to rachunek za wyzony, brak menu dla dzieci ,zreszta tez chyba krzeselek ,dzisiejsza emigracja to ludzie mlodzi majacy juz rodziny. Kazde inne piwo podane w innym kuflu , brak piwa ZYWIEC w karcie choc w bufecie byl .

Very good authentic Polish restaurant. The interior design and costumer service experience was... WOW! Huge range of foods, everybody csn find something to eat. Price-amount of food was very good. When you tired of english food and curry, visit this place! Totally magic!

Chcieliśmy tylko żurek ( do wyboru: z chleba lub podany w misce), a skończyło się na lodach po wyśmienitych plackach ziemniaczanych. Bardzo miła obsługa. Ładny, przytulny wystrój. Ceny przeciętne. Restauracja usytuowana jest w zacisznym miejscu, lecz blisko centrum.Bardzo polecam. Na pewno tam wrócę.

Was recommended this place after my polish friend went there with his girlfriend and were very happy with food. We did order way too much but although I suffered for eating too much it was worth it. Highly recommend this place...
