The omens were not good: a Tuesday evening, bad weather and a 30 minute drive. But I should not have worried. Super food and excellent service. My Norfolk Black lamb was superb and then the chocolate marquise was exquisite. All washed down with eminently drinkable wines by the glass. And when we drove home it had stopped raining!

Service was very mixed ranging from very matter of fact to excellent, with Charlee being the stand out at reception, who was excellent both at check in and at check out. Very friendly and professional. However, the following let down our stay. Not enough attention to detail in the nook room, particularly a non draining sink and damp smell in the morning. Question mark over whether dogs are allowed in the accommodation which went unanswered. The evening meal was in a very inviting dining room, but the high-end price steak was not succulent enough given the price, despite being cooked to my request and the size of the starter portion of rosti was very disappointing. The public outside wooden seating was in desperate need of sanding down and retreating and my wife could not sit on it in her cream trousers. I raised a few other items at the time, which mostly went unanswered, but the venue just about got a 4 star review rather than my initial 3 star thoughts. We are regular guests of Milsoms venues but decided to try the Mill as we had always wondered what the venue was like. Unfortunately, we haven’t been persuaded to include the venue as a future choice, based on our experience.

What a great find. Slightly hesitant after we had had to cancel a previous hotel booking but so pleased we had to!! A beautiful venue and the quirky Tipi outside is fabulous too. We stayed for 2 nights in the Watermeadow rooms which were recommended to us by Antonia, the lovely receptionist . What a beautiful view of the meadow and a small lake too. We had two small dogs with us and they were absolutely spoilt rotten by all the fabulous staff. The small surprise touches made the stay even more special. Only small downside was it was quite warm in the room, with only a small bathroom window to open ,as we wouldn't feel comfortable leaving the bi fold doors open at night!! Definitely wouldn't put us off another stay ,as we felt soooo relaxed and spoilt!! The food was super too even though we didn't eat upstairs as we had the dogs. Breakfasts were some of the best we have had anywhere!!

We ate in the tipi – we always like the ambiance, especially the creaking tent poles when it’s windy. The broad bean humus was very tasty, but over-salted. My ‘real’ burger was excellent, as was my wife’s mushroom version. The thing that spoiled the meal was being handed the bill and told that we had to take it to the bar to pay. Fine if the bar was in the same building – but it’s not; it’s 60 yards to the bar, including going down one set of stone steps with no handrail and a disabled ramp up. Fine if you’re young and fit and the weather is fine, but ….. Then you stand in a queue at the bar waiting to get the barman’s attention! It was an annoying end to a very pleasant meal. For a bill of just under £60 for two (with tip) I expect to be able to call over the server, tell him or her what tip to add, present my card, exchange pleasantries, and leave happy – instead of being the one expected to do all the work just to pay! It really grated. Please - just get a wifi-extender and a spare card reader! It would make such a difference to the experience.

We visited here on a Friday evening and opted for the taster menu and wine flight. The restaurant has a feel of the old mill with the mill still in place at the centre. We had the Mill cocktail to start and then went into the courses with oysters and bread as an appetiser, salmon starter, stone bass fish course, partridge meat course, parfait, chocolate dessert and we also added the cheese course paired with a port. Food and service was all very good as you’d expect from a high end restaurant. Would highly recommend for a special occasion as not cheap - but worth it!

They were knowledgeable with the menus and made great recommendations. We went for our ten year wedding anniversary and they made it a memorable experience for us. If I could give ten stars I would. We stayed in Mill room East and the accommodations were perfect. The large bath tub was a great way to wind down the end of the day and the atmosphere that they created was stylish and rustic. We will for sure return. Great job tuddenham mill.

We had booked the tepee so on arrival we asked where to go and we were told that they had a wedding there and it wouldn't be open. A tad perplexed we sat in the bar and looked at the menu. We were told the tepee closes at 7:30 anyway- but we thought that was what we had booked!? The website does not make it clear that the tepee closes at 7:30 so anything after that would be in the bar. Our choices were to eat in the bar or go upstairs to the far more expensive menu. Being our wedding anniversary, we decided to eat upstairs. We had anticipated a nice evening in the tepee so after all we didn't want to sit in the bar. We went with the taster menu and we were not disappointed with it-it was exceptional. Although a far more expensive evening, and a little frustrating to start with it was really nice.

I found this restaurant one evening by flicking through the Michelin Guide website. I thought to myself, “wow a highly recommended restaurant on my doorstep, I must try it.” First impressions were great. The building and setting are beautiful. Greeted by warm and friendly staff. We were very excited to try the food. Enjoying a red wine, we were seated upstairs in a beautiful, quaint dining room. We were two of 6 people in the restaurant on this winter’s Sunday evening. Maybe that should have told us something. Arriving first were some flat breads topped with smoked nduja and garlic butter. The topping was amazing, such rich flavors. However, we were quickly disappointed in the chunky stale bread they were on. Very chewy almost like they were left over from yesterday’s service. Not put off by this, what we thought was an anomaly, we eagerly awaited our starter. The bone marrow, cutting to the chase, was just a bowl of rendered fat and oil with very little flavor topped with some supermarket black pudding. My partner’s salmon was bland thick cut raw salmon, not smoked, not cooked, nothing to make this worth its overinflated cost. At this point, the wine was helping us drastically. The waiters were lovely and helpful. A delight to chat with. Although with such few covers this makes sense. With admittedly great timing, our mains arrived. Wow. This is what earned the title of this review. Firstly, my partner’s steak… When you think steak, you think high end. Especially for £46. The menu stated a sirloin. We hoped for such a price, this cheaper cut of meat would be an amazing example of itself. When asked how he’d like it, he asked for the chef’s recommendation. This cut of beef renowned for its stringy fat and need for rendering, arrived charred on the outside but blue on the inside. Leaving a chewy crust and all the strings and sinew coursing through this thin and unimpressive plate of meat. Please see my photos of this dreadful, overpriced disappointment. A thin slice of horrendous beef placed on a plate with two single leaves of Lettice. To put this in perspective, down the road is my favorite restaurant that serves a beautiful fillet of beef for £35. My main, the partridge, was very small, great in flavor but dry and shown no love nor care. Glad we ordered a side of chips as they were the only thing to contain any real edible substance. The £6 side of leaks, however; Inch and a half thick in diameter, rough cut into lengths still with the leak bulb attached. No finesse or effort, these were slightly grilled on the outside yet still squeaky raw in the middle. No garlicy vinegar as promised, or flavor for that matter. Just an inedible plate of raw leaks, 60p from Tesco straight onto a plate. We declined deserts and paid our £200 bill and left. Felt like we needed to stop for some food on the way home. Terrible and will not be returning. Very unfortunate.

We stayed overnight in a little one-room "pod" outside the main building, which was nicely odd but beginning to show signs of tiredness and needs rejuvenation. It was also very hot, and not air-conditioned. But it was spotlessly clean and reasonably well provisioned. The restaurant is very good, though - with four-star food and five-star service. The old-mill atmo is also very appealing, as is the bar terrace overlooking the mill pond (complete with nesting swans). The overall location is a bit middle-of-nowhere, but the setting (from the back, at least) is lovely.

Lovely restaurant, very romantic and a great location. The food is inventive, perfectly cooked and Will's knowledge of wine is second to none. With the help of Lisa, Will ensures you have a stress free evening. Lovely, quiet location. We had lunch by the river and the food was so good plus some very good wines. In the evening we booked the Upstairs restaurant for 7pm but there seemed to be a shortage of staff as there was no-one in the restaurant and after a short while we walked downstairs to the bar to find someone. We opted for the tasting menus with a wine pairing. The wine was superb and the pairing was selected by Will who looked after us all evening. If you enjoy fine wine at a reasonable price and not necessarily well known wines then this is the place to come. Good to have the wines explained as well as the food. Preferred the food served lunchtime as the vegetarian dishes on the tasting menu had too many mingled flavours. Next time I will opt for the a la carte and ask will for a wine recommendation. The main tasting menu was very good with the right balance of flavours and dishes. Overall it was very good. The restaurant is quirky, with some of the Mill's original equipment on show. Wonderful view of the river outside so ask for a table overlooking the river, as the other side of the restaurant overlooks the road. The room combines the modern with the old. Very clean and has a beautiful interior design. Special thanks to Will as he explained everything so well and made everything run so smoothly. great evening and one to repeat sometime soon.

I have booked taste of Tuddenham package for my husband’s birthday, and honestly we were not disappointed. The room (mill room east) was delightfully designed, the moment we stepped in the aroma of espa has welcomed us and made us instantly switch off and relax, the lovely products (teas, coffee, sloe gin and espa products) just added to the overall experience. And then the dinner, food - ding dong!!! And I mean it - we are both foodies and it was exceptional, with wine pairing (still got a hedeache) but worth every penny… atmosphere was a bit busy, and maybe an extra hand would help the team on the floor, but we were not in any rush and all worked perfectly for us. Thank you for being so attentive, friendly and welcoming! We will be back, stock up! Thank you xx

We stayed at Tuddenham Mill as a treat for my wife’s birthday. I will review that separately. We booked lunch in the TIPI and although a little chilly at this time of year it is a lovely space. They do have heaters and blankets which was fine for us. We had bone marrow pie which was delightful. Would like to come back in the summer. Cocktails were fantastic. We booked the tasting menu for dinner with wine pairing and were provided with free Prosecco on arrival. Wow what an amazing 6 courses + extras. We had one veggie and one meat/fish so we could try everything. Our waiter (forgot his name from Spain) was very attentive and explained all the wines/dishes perfectly. They even had a Brunello paired with a dish which is such a beautiful wine. We were made to feel special and the food speaks for itself. Breakfast the next morning was great too. How disappointing. On arrival we couldn’t find a member of staff to either welcome us or show us to our pre booked table ( which they couldn’t find ) We decided to have mussels as a main course. So small .. they were hardly worth eating. One bowl arrived. We waited twenty minutes for the second bowl to arrive. No apology given. No bowl provided to put the discarded shells in.. We had to ask for ‘sauce’ on the second serving bowl as they arrived ‘dry’. Incidentally, what little liquid WAS on the mussels was delicious. Tuddenham is a restaurant we have visited regularly. We stayed here as guests at a wedding a few years ago but are feeling reluctant to return again. In our eyes four stars are questionable 😢

We had the best time here at Tuddenham mill. This was our second visit, our first being four years ago. We decided to come back to where it all started and celebrate our anniversary here. We stayed in the mill west room, which was beautiful. The only downfalls were that because I think it was a pretty high room, it was very warm even with the fan & windows open and The pillows were also duck feathers which we aren’t a fan of. We ate in the upstairs restaurant and the food was amazing, Just as good, If not better than the first time we visited. For starter; - Chicken Liver parfait Main; - Lamp rump, Bertha shoulder & greens - Stonebass, roasted scallop, Sardinian fregola & lobster bisque. Dessert; - strawberries & shortbread - cheese & biscuits We could not fault the service or the food, it was honestly one of the best meals we’ve had and we have eaten at some pretty good places. For breakfast, we had - french toast with blueberry’s - smoked salmon & scrambled eggs Beautiful all round and will definitely be returning!

Had high hopes for lunch today. However even though the food was lovely the slow service really sucked the energy out of the meal. The 2 waiters worked incredibly hard but they needed more help. We received our starters before our drinks which didn’t turn up until after 40 minutes from when we sat down. We enjoyed the mains but with empty glasses it wasn’t the experience we were looking for. We had every intention in having a dessert but after waiting again we decided not to bother. Again we were left waiting for the bill so in the end we went into the bar area to pay. We went thinking we would be splashing out, but instead we ended up paying £30pp even though we were there for 2 hours.

No room for error with the food. The food was cooked to perfection with a great attention detail. Also a lovely touch of complementary appraiser to start. However the service did not match the standard of the food. We were not offered a drink in the bar area before taken up to the mill and then our drinks did not come until we almost had our food. We were not offered the drink menu before the food. We also asked for extra water which did not come. Service was just slightly slow and we were not checked on as much as we would have hoped. Overall it was a very satisfying experience and we would definitely return it just felt the service did not match the standard of the food.

Having visited this lovely hotel and restaurant many several times over the course of the last 3 years I have to say that the setting is lovely and the food is always gorgeous. I visited a few days ago for drinks and the lovely lady behind the bar was obviously working extremely hard as do all of the front of house staff that I have seen here. However I definitely get the sense that the Mill often seems severely short-staffed. The service was terribly slow and that was no fault of the bar staff as like I already mentioned were obviously working very hard. I feel that the problem is that the bar needed a runner/bar assistant instead of expecting one member of staff to be responsible for making drinks at the bar and serving in the bar area, taking drinks to the restaurant, serving customers in the outside area and taking orders to the Tipi. How can one person be expected to provide the level of service you would expect from a restaurant like this when they are so obviously being over worked and having to be the sole staff member looking after such a huge area of the establishment. Again, this is not a complaint about the FOH team who are all excellent, the restaurant just needs more of them...

We went for a late Sunday lunch in the Tipi. The receptionist explained, very gracefully, that the electricity had failed in the Tipi at the end of a wedding the previous night. It was being repaired, but in the mean time she offered us a table in their usually much more expensive indoor restaurant with the Tipi menu. Perfect arrangement for us, especially as it was an unusually cold and windy late May day and, frankly, the Tipi would probably have been a bit chilly; we felt we had been lucky! The food was good, charmingly served; the ambiance was tranquil and positive. We both had the Tuddenham Hamburger; my partner felt that it was far too salty - I didn't. Each to his or her own. The deserts were top notch, especially the brownie. We were even able to watch the swans looking after their nest in the Mill Stream.

Impressive and tasteful hotel.. with a but! We stayed in the main part of the mill. Reception was great and went up to the room and found it equally impressive, open plan spacious and a fabulous bed. On each side table there was a small packet of ear plugs (a bit odd), but I will come back to that. We had pre booked the Tipi for dinner and I did ask if it was heated and told it was. This is where the majority of our disappointment came from. To put it into context, the main hotel restaurant only had 3 or 4 tables occupied and the Tipi only had 3 tables taken including us, so not busy but there was a complete lack of service, too long to be served and didn't even get asked about a pudding. Only one heater was working, and when I asked, I was told yes its broken (so why not fix it). It was cold and empty, but we finally managed to order. I chose the steak, it arrived and all I could say is it was as thin as one of the French frie's, very small and came with some kind of sauce which was tasteless and watery, not what you expect for £28, vastly overpriced and more in keeping with pup grub and not a 4 rosette hotel. When asked how the food was I explained my thoughts, they did offer to get someone to come and speak to me but I declined as I just wanted to eat and get back into some warmth. 2 hours to be served one course. So the ear plugs... We settled down into our comfy room and tried to sleep, but the road noise was deafening and constant. I challenged this with reception the next morning only to be told that this is pointed out on the website and is why the main building rooms are cheaper!.. The website states 'As they are beside the road, there is occasionally some road noise', note the word Occasionally and Some, not all night. if it was occasional there would be no need to put ear plugs by the bed!! When the bill arrived I checked it and they had, without discussing it with me, or given any explanation given a 20% discount on my steak, so they obviously agreed it was a poor meal. So in summary, I would say the Tuddenham Mill is a beautifully renovated mill with lots of charm but was badly let down by the lack of service in the Tipi, quality of the food, but add in the noise from the road, these three things would put us off recommending the hotel.

We dinned in the teepee, on a Monday lunch time. The heating was put on and we were lovely and warm. One other couple was dinning within the time we were there. Service was slow and we were left to it. The menu was limited and we ended up having only a starter and desert. Receptionist staff made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcoming on entering to pay, which was a shame..Not a great end to not a wonderful lunch. Would not visit again.

My wife and I stayed in the east loft suite for two nights and From the moment that we arrived the staff could not do enough. The food in the mill restaurant was cooked to perfection and presented beautifully . A very picturesque and peaceful place to recharge . We do not usually book the same venue twice but in this instance we will definitely return every year as long as this wonderfull enchanting venue keeps up its excellence.

We had the most amazing stay here. We stayed in a meadow nook and thought the accommodation was beautiful - really tastefully decorated and equipped with everything we could need. The grounds are beautiful and lovely to walk around. The staff could not do enough to make our stay perfect. The lady on reception and the Tippee staff were fabulously professional and helpful. We missed breakfast as we didn’t realise we had it included and despite being late they insisted they could make us breakfast which was delicious. We couldn’t fault the place and would love to return!

Lovely restaurant upstairs in the mill. Nice layout and relatively intimate setting. Nice 5 course tasting menu. My only slight criticism is that you are only given a wine list not a drinks menu, which would be nice to see rather than just choosing a drink from a few options that you get told by a member of the team.

All the menus were adapted so she didn’t feel disadvantaged. We stayed in the nook with the wood fired hot tub and WOW!!! Thank you to all the staff for a fantastic and unforgettable stay. Hoping to visit again very soon

Lovely room but the cleaning should of been to a higher standard, dirty toilet, dead flys, cobwebs on ceiling. I would not eat in the restaurant again as the service was inadequate for the price. Sadly I would not return.

Tipi on the Stream restaurant at Tuddenham Mill was quite disappointing. For what was (once?) a 1 michelin star restaurant I would have expected more than just an average pubs' menu, it was not even the level of a gastropub! I thought the Tipi idea was great but looked like a place at the end of the summer they could not bother keeping the athmosphere up anymore. Quite dirty on the floor and the stream look more like a stagnant pond with no moving water and fully covered in green scum. Little choice on the menu and no oysters as reported on their website. Mains were really below average and had little flavour. Startes were decent but that was it! It felt as if they had two different chefs, one doing the starters and one doing the very poor mains. Poor service, despite I had flagged in my booking it was to celebrate my dad's 84th birthday, they put no attention to details, including how they cleaned the table between starters and mains service (poorly done so we had to use our own kleenex a few times), long wait - one hour - between starters and mains. My dad had finished his red wine since he had little left (less than a quarter of a medium size glass) after spiling by accident on the table at the very start. Not only they did not offer to top up the glass after the spilling incident but even mid way through the lunch when glass was clearly empty for a while they did not ask if he wanted more wine and we had to ask it ourself. They left throughtout the whole meal the menu soaked in red wine on the table next to our food. They did not come at the end of our mains to check if everything was ok and if we wanted desserts, at that point we could not bother asking. I went to pay inside and we left. I felt really embarassed with my family for this poor choice given the special day we were celebrating!

The Water Meadow room was comfortable and spacious with a good outlook over the grounds. It, however, was let down by limited seating - indeed one of the chairs had a broken leg. Amazing experience! Can't recommend this place enough. We stayed in the nook with hottub and had the 7 course tasting menu for the evening. The nook was beautiful. It was such a lovely experience sitting in the hot tub with views of the fields. The food and service is exceptional. The cost initially seems expensive but totally worth it. I would say it's great value for money and we will definitely be back.
