Amazing restaurent Grea atmosphere

Just terrible all around. Calamari was obviously not made fresh. Prawns were tasteless. Sushi was disgusting. 🤮

Service was so good I nearly shed a tear. Staff were super friendly and attentive. And the food! Truly amazing veg sushi and the ramen in miso broth felt almost graceful. Ube ice cream is a must try. My friend had a strawberry matcha which tasted alright and was freshly made, but the server did inform us that the bubble tea was canned. Do with that information what you will 🙂‍↕️

My husband was keen to visit Umi as he loves trying different foods, me less so. However we both had great meals and will definitely eat here again.

As a family of 4 we were looking for somewhere that would suit everyone. The food was fresh, the wine reasonable in price and the service good.

To eat: Wakame Salad (Decent) Spicy Squid (Very crunchy, most likely shop bought) Pulled Pork Ramen (The pork was so sweet it was pretty much inedible, maybe better to try one of the other ramen options) Tofu Donburi (Rice was cooked well, pretty plain otherwise) Atmosphere/Service: Friendly staff working hard in a really popular restaurant. The place was nicely laid out and well managed generally and provides a different offering to Tenby. Probably wouldn't go rushing back, but maybe we ordered the wrong things, sushi looked good coming out to other tables.

I had the vegan pulled pork teppanyaki - one of the best veggie meals out I have ever had, highly recommend!!

A nice restaurant to visit in Tenby with lots of vegan and vegetarian options. I had the chilli tofu donburi which was okay. A little bland for my taste, and some of the tofu pieces were a little salty. The rice was very nice, as was the pickle. The veggies were okay though felt a little too oily. The service was fantastic. May visit again to try something else on their menu.

I recently visited Umi and had a mixed yet enjoyable experience. The menu is simple and easy to navigate, though I was disappointed to find both the bao buns and pumpkin curry were out of stock during my visit. The service for my first order was a bit slow—about 20 minutes—but the food that eventually arrived did not disappoint. The seaweed salad was a standout, full of fresh flavors and a perfect balance of textures. The chips, though, were a bit underwhelming, just basic chips served with sriracha sauce, which felt a little uninspired. The gyoza was nice but didn’t leave a lasting impression, while the pulled pork vegan dish was incredible. It had a fantastic texture and an explosion of flavors that made it one of the highlights of the meal. Equally impressive was the donburi with ground beef. The dish was rich in flavor, and the various textures came together beautifully, making it a memorable choice. Overall, Umi has some real gems on the menu, especially for those who enjoy bold and creative flavors.

Umi, great decor, fab atmosphere, always professional and nice staff 😀 Food was beautifully presented and just delicious! Perfect way for my fiancé and I to spend our Anerversary! Best thing was, when we couldn't manage to eat it all, we could get takeaway boxes- so no waste!

A very good Japanese restaurant in Tenby. Soon after, it was opened at the lunch session, customers came in group by group, and the restaurant was full in a short period of time. The food was made to good taste. The service, as well, was nice and welcoming.

We went early at 5pm so, nobody in (January) but after an hour people came in and it was booked for the rest of the evening! Just what we needed as it was so cold outside !!

Excellent experience. Food was outstanding and the mocktails were delicious, great menu for kids too. And they’d made a special occasion of Christmas for all diners, not just group bookings with crackers for everyone which the kids loved. We’ll definitely be back when in Tenby again

Bizarre Experience We made a reservation for 8:30 PM on a Saturday evening and were seated promptly. However, just two minutes after receiving our menus, a waitress came over to take our order. We requested a little more time to review the menu, only to be told we needed to hurry because the kitchen closed at 8:30 PM—an odd policy, considering we had a reservation for that time. While the food itself was very good, the rushed atmosphere continued throughout the evening. At 9:30 a waitress approached our table and asked us whether anybody needed to use the bathroom as they were cleaning them ready to close. After ordering dessert but before it arrived, a waiter approached us and informed us we needed to finish up quickly as the restaurant was closing in 10 minutes. At that point, we decided to cancel dessert and leave. Overall, the service was strange and made for a less-than-pleasant experience. It’s puzzling to understand why bookings are taken so late if the kitchen is closing soon after.

Food was disappointing, we like Japanese food but found this too salty. Tofu katsu was not breadcrumbs but marinated tofu with katsu sauce on top. Veg gyoza was best part of the meal.

Visited this restaurant 2 days in a row while staying at Tenby. Absolutely fabulous food and atmosphere. Heaps of vegan options and also gluten free vegan. I had the tofu vegetable Tepanyaki one night and Donburi the other. The miso was one of the best I've had full of tofu and veg. There is also a vegan udon, Katsu curry and Ramen. So many options. Even vegan dessert. Katsu Banana. This place is a must go in Tenby if you are vegan. It's also very authentic after recently traveling to Japan and trying vegan options there. My partner isn't vegetarian and enjoyed all of his dishes including the duck spring rolls for entre and the apple gyoza with passion fruit mochi. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Food is so tasty and filling. Large portions.

Went to the restaurant on the 16th of October for their Sushi and Saxophone night. The food we ordered was layed out and displayed so beautifully, and tasted amazing. The Saxophonist was brilliant, playing modern music and really added to a fantastic evening.

Had a really lovely 2pm meal here. Was very delicious and our first time trying goyza and purple yam ice cream. Had chili squid.

The team managed to find us a table on a very busy lead up to Iron Man. The food was absolutely excellent, one of the best Japanese meals we've tasted. Brilliant kids menu choices also and my little one licked the plate clean. Lovely team members too who were very attentive and chatty.

An exceptional dining experience with authentic Japanese food, the sushi was incredibly fresh, with beautifully crafted rolls that balanced flavour and texture perfectly. Not to mention the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. Staff were very friendly and service was quick. Absolutely recommend to anyone visiting Tenby!

Despite it being very quiet when we visited, this place was fantastic. I can easily imagine it being even more enjoyable when full, as with the charming decor it would really enhance the atmosphere. The food was excellent, and I was grateful they made an exception for me, allowing me to order Bao Buns from the takeaway menu as a lunch option while dining indoors. However, this does make me question why they have a separate takeaway menu in the first place. It seems a bit unnecessary. My partner struggled to find something to eat since Thai food isn’t really his preference, but he ended up enjoying what he ordered. This makes me think they could benefit from expanding the menu a little to cater to pickier eaters. I was also surprised that there wasn’t a dedicated lunch menu offering smaller main items, even though they were open for lunch. The service was wonderful. The young lady serving us was very welcoming and friendly. I would highly recommend this place, as I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the setting. I would love to return to try more from their menu.

Excellent, great value and thoughtful staff. They gave us a window seat to keep an eye on my mobility scooter that I parked outside after they moved some tables and chairs to allow space for it. Thank you 😊

First of all, the amount of vegan and vegetarian options this place has is just exquisite. No one in my family had any trouble finding something they wanted. The options are pretty good too, but I wish that they used ingredients that weren’t as western as they are. I had the teriyaki chicken rice bowl and the egg was fried very nicely, the rice was also really good, but the chicken was a little dry. It might have been better if it wasn’t shredded, or if they had cooked it in the sauce instead of adding it later. The staff were all very polite and nothing took very long to come. They also give you chocolate with the check which is fun. I didn’t love the dessert menu, but we tried some of them and they weren’t bad, just very sweet.

Really enjoyable evening with friends. Had selection of starters, they were very tasty and fresh. All 4 of us thought our mains were great. Shame can't give 4.5 stars. Only comment would be to provide side plates when sharing lots of starters and maybe some long cushions on wooden benches. Will be back again soon and would definitely recommend ☺️

We visited after passing & I must admit the smell of the food brought us in & gladly not disappointed. We ordered octopus & squid for appetisers, donburi Korean beef, king prawn ramen & a child's crispy chicken with noodles. The mains were a decent hefty portion & tasted amazing, we sat outside as the sun was out but the interior decor was really nice. Total bill £69 including drinks, personally I think it was worth it & would glady visit again

Easily the best Asian meal my wife and I have had in years. The prawns were a real highlight, the wasabi mayo was absolutely incredible!

Great staff, nice and friendly and Quick to serve. However food lacked depth and key flavours; as an example, the pulled pork ramen tasted fine when we got it but the flavours from the pork eventually mixed with the broth, leaving a bad taste. Highly recommend the rice bowls

I ordered the Pulled Pork Ramen and Takoyaki and both were delicious! A bit on the pricey side, but it was cold and the ramen was fitting. I absolutely loved the corn on the ramen and the takoyaki was very flavorful, as it should be!

Very expensive for the poor quality you get and the service was slow and awkward feeling, it took along time to get our orders in and when our food came it was very bland When entering the restaurant you'd expect it to be very authentic japanese food but when you finally eat the food it seems to be prepackaged and pre cooked which is a shame the octopus balls had 1 tiny piece of octopus inside and the rice tasted as though it was microwaved. All in all a disappointing experience considering the price tag.

On a relatively quiet night in the rest of town, Urmi was busy. From 6.30 the restaurant was buzzing. The food menu is relatively simple but don”t less this deter as each dish tasted lovely and delicious. We tried a yummy teppanyaki, donburi and katsu curry, all of which were delicious. Service was friendly although they did look very busy with some customers waiting a bit longer for their food to be served. Definitely book early to avoid the rush.

Delicious food is very tasty and full of flavour Our waiter spoke a bit quite so it was difficult to understand them. Amazing atmosphere lovely paintings and music nice decorations. To sum it up it was a lovely meal would recommend.

Came here for my daughters birthday meal as she wanted to go to waga mama, so managed to convince her this would be better. The food was amazing and so were the staff. They overhead my brother say happy birthday to my daughter and made such a fuss of her it was a perfect way to end her day

Everything we had was delicious and very friendly/polite service. Bit pricey but nice for a holiday treat. Would visit again and definitely recommend. Only downside is uncomfy bench seating instead of chairs. Make sure you book in advance.

Umi means sea/ocean but there wasn’t much seafood options of local ingredients other than deep fried dishes. Having lived in Japan before I wouldn’t call it Japanese cuisine more like an imitation of an imitation. The change of ownership mentioned by other reviewers probably was the reason for it. Judging from the dishes we had and their “flavours” it does not seem like the kitchen was run by Japanese staff or those with understanding of Japanese cooking. Service was nice enough but the food really made it too memorable for the wrong reasons.

We came here for dinner on my birthday and it was our first time. The staff were very friendly but I was glad I had booked as there was no walk in space. The food was stunning and the portions were huge. I was treated to a surprise desert for my birthday which was so sweet of them. I would definitely come again on my next visit to Tenby.

We visited Umi on a busy Saturday evening (luckily we booked ahead otherwise they would have been no chance getting in!!), the staff despite being extremely busy took good care of us and checked up on us several times to ensure our food was okay! The atmosphere was wonderful, the decorations and the music really made it an enjoyable vibe. The menu has a lot of delicious options and we thoroughly enjoyed our food. We also stayed for dessert which was absolutely divine, definitely do not leave without ordering some! I would love to see the place again, I think it deserves a bigger venue honestly! Not because it was too cramped but because it was clearly so in demand and deserves more room to play with! The owners have created a wonderful experience and I'll be visiting again as soon as possible 🩷

We were in this lovely restaurant on Wednesday 12th June. The service was excellent, and the food also The Gyroza were beautiful and so were the Udon noodles with both Korean ground beef and pulled pork. The food was really fresh and came out really quickly too Overall a lovely dining experience... keep up your great work. See you next time we're in gorgeous Tenby. Rob and Jackie Bull. X

The food was incredible at umi! The place has a fresh look but I still wasn’t expecting the food to be as good as it was and reasonably priced too, the fizzy fruit drinks were super refreshing. The service was a little slow between dessert and grabbing the bill but that was okay as we were on holiday at the time, the mains came out rapidly and we hadn’t yet completely finished our starters. Which again was okay as we were nearly finished anyway. The bathroom is the only thing letting it down, due to its layout and openness, no wheelchair access but that can’t be changed due to the design of the building. Staff were super friendly. Just wish we had one in Norwich! Tried ube ice cream and that was well worth the risk! Up there with one of my favourite restaurants, the food was 12/10

Visited here with my husband who is Japanese and he commented on how lovely and authentic the food was! We recommend the udon and donburi dishes, absolutely delicious and very filling! The atmosphere is great especially the music and it’s a good space to also socialise. This reminds of what our life is like in Osaka! Definitely recommend the place! 御馳走様でした！🍜🥟🥢🍛

Honestly, this is the worst ramen I've ever had in my life. First about the taste, the soup as a whole is just salty, without any flavor, the meat and the runny egg are too salty. Noodles are the worst of all. It taste like supermarket instant noodles that are just dipped into a bowl . The service attitude is OK, but the overall layout of the table and chair of the restaurant is very tight, several people use a long table together, and there is nothing separated on the shared table. This means that people have to sit closely together with strangers while communicating at dinner, without any privacy.

Outstanding. We came in for Sunday lunch, wanting more than a typical roast. We got the tofu donburi, the vegan udon, the sesame broccoli (which we ordered a second round of!), the wakame seaweed and the miso soup - all of which paired fantastically with the liso viente wine. Gorgeous fresh ingredients, friendly service, and a beautiful location. Who would've thought Tenby has better Japanese food on its high street than Cardiff!

What's happened!? Umi WAS one of the best Asain fusion restaurants in our area, and we were so delighted to have an alternative to the generic pub grub in Tenby...BUT since the change in ownership its bland, boring and minimal effort food. Such a dissapointment, we used to come every month. No longer our go to place for food. Hair in brocollindish, ground korran beef bland, deep fried squid meh...no spice chilli And taiyaki, deep fried...well more like mildly warm.floopy pancake

A lovely little restaurant in Tenby. The atmosphere and decor is absolutely charming. I had the pulled pork ramen which was tasty. Too bad I’d eaten a hefty lunch because I ended up taking more than half of it home. I highly recommend.

I visited last night with my family and we had a lovely evening! We had a few small plates between us and we ordered different mains. We found everything to be so tasty and beautifully presented! The service was faultless and the restaurant looks great after the renovation. We can't wait to return! ❤️

Me and my cousins tried Umi Tenby out this week and everything was amazing! Food was delicious, portions were really good sizing and plenty of food options. I tried the chicken katsu curry which was phenomenal. Atmosphere was lovely and relaxed, and staff were so polite! Will definitely be back whenever I’m done Tenby next! Highly recommend for a nice lunch!

I love this place! I was visiting Tenby for a week and this was my favorite restaurant by a long shot. I went with my parents and we each had something different and everything was absolutely delicious. I personally appreciated that each dish contained at least 2 servings of vegetables. I had the Chili Tofu Donburi which had a generous portion of tofu, perfect sticky rice and a mix of cooked and pickled veg and a fried egg. The others had Prawn Udon and Pulled Pork Ramen, both excellent as well. We also got a side of cucumber salad which was fresh and wonderful. I love when places have a limited menu, it’s usually a sign that they do the few items they serve very well and this was the case at Umi. I would definitely go back. The price point was a little high but it seems that way with all UK restaurants these days. At least here, I’m getting high quality for my money. The portions were huge and we went home with leftovers. I loved the decor and ambiance. The style was clean and simple with lovely details around the restaurant. Definitely worth coming here!

The food was excellent, I got to try their Salmon Teppanyaki it was so tasty and perfectly cooked, Chicken Katsu Curry which was so savoury, I think it's my favorite dish! All in all the food presentation was so amazing. The staff were polite and attentive to my request. Great asian restaurant in Tenby! I recommend this place!

Formerly regular visitors, this was our first visit following the reopening for our daughter's birthday. Left disappointed (and still quite hungry). Marginally more expensive (especially so for drinks), definitely smaller portions and definitely less tasty. Pretty watery in fact.

Style over substance - Avoid! If you want a dish that looks great for the gram and have no interest in an actual dining experience then this is the place for you. If you want to hear a doorbell go off every 2 minutes, have to move an entire dining table to get in and out of your seat, and are happy with someone plastered with pest control milling around the dining area, then Umi is the ideal dining experience. We had a chicken tapenyaki with overcooked chicken, raw cauliflower (maybe they thought they'd balance each other out?), and a complete lack of flavour, chicken donburi with no flavour whatsoever and next to no actual chicken, and two different orders of ramen with packet noodles, cheap ingredients and also no flavour! The pricing was also ludicrous, £4.50 for some pickles or £3 for a small juice. Also if you're not a fan of octopus I would reccommend the homeopathic octopus balls. It was nice for them to bring out us each half an after-dinner mint - no expense spared! I don't know if we could've finished a whole one so this was really appreciated. So good luck to them as a business, we won't be returning as we actually enjoy food but for those who just like the presentation and have more money than sense it's the perfect place.

Stunning food in an amazing location. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable, the food was absolutely incredible. I had the best Salmon of my life here! The ube ice cream was so unique and I'd come back just for that. And the vibed and atmosphere were very relaxed. I like the added touch of playing 80's Japanese music in the background. Could not recommend enough.
