Forced service charge, fake Japanese food, dirty dining environment！

It was a good place with special/seasonal menu. But sadly we had food poisoning from our Valentine‘s dinner, was a busy night. We had variety of dishes from cooked to raw & also desserts, have no idea what caused an issue.

Came for valentines. Was not told that we could only order off the set v day menu which was £33pp for 6 plates if we wanted to order anything off of the main menu. This was not explained until we were ready to place an order. If this was communicated before making the reservation, we would have probably cancelled the booking. Unfortunately, nothing we would have wanted off the main menu was on the set menu. The order in which the set menu was to be brought to the table was not communicated as our side of rice came long after everything else as a standalone dish. Food wasn’t exceptional and some was mediocre. Had we been able to order what we wanted, it would have been a more expensive meal which we would have been happy to pay for, thus more revenue for the restaurant. The decision to enforce a set menu baffles me. Service wasn’t great. Shame, the place has potential.

EXTREMELY RUDE STAFF GOT UP AND LEFT. Took my girlfriend for a valentines meal which has NEVER specified that you can only order from a set menu???? But you can order additional from the NORMAL MENU. We wanted to go to a sushi restaurant and the set menu has 2 items of sushi on it. When asked if we can just order from the normal menu for sushi she was EXTREMELY rude to my girlfriend and condescending telling her she can only have sushi if she insists and it’s causing a problem?? 🤣🤣 from travelling out of Nottingham city centre for a new experience I can ASSURE this won’t be happening again.

Uchi is swiftly becoming one of our favourite places to eat. Not only is the food for adults absolutely brilliant and well priced but the children's menu is also spot on and offers authentic meals that aren't just nuggets and chips! Uchi is reasonably priced, the service is quick and friendly and the food is beyond tasty.

The food is fresh and tasty. The servers were friendly, and they were happy to recommend dishes and ensured everything was great. Will come back soon!❤️

Uchi is a lovely restaurant in WBridgford. We weren’t blown away by every dish, hence the 4 star and we felt it’s quite pricy for this area. Really loved: King mushroom skewers Gyoza Spicy tuna roll Lamb and Aubergine Miso Stir Fry Bao Buns We didn’t love their tempura batter. We would visit again, but as a treat!

Really good Japanese food with a range of dishes including sushi, noodles and Ramen, katsu, sharing plates and fusion food. I had the pork belly Ramen as well as some gyoza and it was delicious, freshly cooked, tasted authentic and clearly made with attention and care. They had a great range of drinks including some really fun cocktails on a happy hour deal that I'll definitely try next time I visit. Service was very prompt, staff were professional, friendly and polite and the prices were very reasonable for the great quality. I'll be coming back!

I love coming to this place for food. I normally come at lunchtime because the bento boxes are so good but came for dinner. Had the BBQ beef Ramen, Spicy soba noodles chicken for mains and Lemon yuzu chicken, Mixed skewers and Tempura yasai gyoza for starters. The food is so flavourful and even spicy food is not overwhelming it has a great balance of flavour and heat. I love coming here, don't need to book normally can accommodate you and it's got a good atmosphere even if busy with friendly efficient staff.

The best restaurant in Bridgford, great food and lovely staff!

We used to come here often but stopped after the manager shouted at me for using the disabled toilet and told me to use the toilet upstairs. I felt embarassed that she made a scene in front of the staff and other diners, so we got the bill and left before finishing our meal. My partner confronted her and she proceeded to tell him that "she isn't disabled", to which my partner pointed out that not all disabilities are visible. She realised she was in the wrong and eventually apologised, but did not seem sincere and was clearly trying to save face in front of other customers. We dined there many times for more than a year, spending upwards of £60 on food and drink each time. Over time, we noticed a decline in the quality of food, and the number of tables filled. In the end, the chicken served was very fatty and chewy, and the spring rolls had a very unappetising after-taste that was off-putting. The manager could be seen on many occasions micro-managing her staff and degrading them in front of other diners. She had a habit of barking orders at them, particularly new staff. The combination of all of these things, along with the hefty price of the food (that is mediocre at best) has driven us to other restaurants in West Bridgford. The staff seem a lot happier in other restaurants and the food is priced appropriately for the quality. If you're looking for drinks only, it's probably a good spot during happy hour, but if you're looking to stay for an extended period enjoying your food in a nice atmosphere, I'd personally recommend The Botanist down the road.

Uchi - we went for dinner today, ordered sushi dishes and one of them was the special tuna dragon rolls. It arrived and was listed as seared at the table. The dish arrived and was lit with a blow torch. After eating some, we realised it was covered in strong alcohol. My partner is a recovering alcoholic, and is T total, I pointed this out to the waitress, and asked if it was alcohol. She said yes and I asked why it didn’t state this on their menu, no answer, just a rude I will pass the info to the chef! I’m really angry as they didn’t seem bothered, nor understanding that the menu needs to state what’s in the dish. Whether it’s for health, or religious reasons, the dishes should state allergies (some people are allergic to alcohol) and ingredients. Poor form Uchi! We were charged £88 for our food including a service charge - no apology!

Another beautiful meal and fantastic attentive and charming service unlike other showy places nearby. Sashimi needs to be fresh and well prepared, this didn’t disappoint. Booking advisable you won’t regret it.

Really good restaurant. Visited as part of a large group. After an initial minor issue we managed to sort out and had some great food and drink here. Great menu and variety, polite and patient service. Excellent food. Also, really extensive and quality vegetarian menu. Would recommend the vegetarian set menu.

I’ve been to Uchi tonight with my partner and my mum. I was under the impression that I’ve booked a table but turned out I didn’t actually complete the booking. The manager quickly looked if there was any free table for us and come back told us there was, there was a no show so they told us we could stay as long as we liked, which was nice. Food came out really quickly and everything was very tasty and fresh. My partner didn’t like sushi until he tried sushi here and now he loves it. I love Yumacha which is the sister restaurant so I had high hopes for Uchi and I have to say I’m not disappointed at all. I would definitely come back again!

This is totally a scam. I grew up in Asia and this restaurant is not officially Japanese food at all, it is just pretending to be Japanese food! I entered the restaurant with high hopes, but left completely disappointed and angry! For those who want to seriously eat Japanese food, I advise you to carefully consider whether to choose another restaurant.

I dined here yesterday and found the place to be very overrated and expensive for the mediocre dishes they offer. The quality of the products was poor, starting with the sushi. It was made with long grain rice instead of the round, sticky rice typically used for sushi, which was disappointing. The cost was £20 for a small plate of 8 sushi rolls. Although the main ingredients were fresh, the desserts seemed to be out of date, as I experienced significant stomach discomfort afterward. Additionally, they charge a 10% service fee, which is not displayed anywhere, just to bring three plates of sushi to the table. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this restaurant.

We have come here many times now and have loved every visit. The cocktails are amazing and great value if you come during happy hour. The sushi is incredible - we have tried so much of the menu now and it has all been great. Uchi is a hidden gem.

My wife and I have had lovely food here along with great quality cocktails. The food here is really far ahead of places like Wagas - freshly prepared and cooked, tasty food served by great staff.

First time visiting here after and after so many great reviews from friends we was looking forward to it. Where to start….We was constantly approached whilst looking through the menu deciding what we wanted to eat, even though we said we wasn’t ready to place our order yet. There was 8 of us and we was given less than 2hours to eat and drink. Three of us wanted the 7 course tasting menu (£45pp) but was told ‘it was too late and we didn’t have enough time’ which we wasn’t told about until they took our order, 15minutes after all guests arrived 101 of how not to do business…. The first round of drinks came relatively quick, however, I could have done a half marathon in the time it took to get the second lot. The food came extremely staggered, which is semi-understandable as it was fairly busy. However my food was extremely bland. The salt and pepper chips was freezing, they took it away and re-friend the same portion. In all honestly, I had more enjoyment when I was on a liquid only diet than at this meal. To top off this interesting evening… one of the waitresses came over and started clearing our table and said we need it back at 8.15, (people was still eating)not taking into consideration the delay we had with receiving our food and drinks. I don’t know whether she’d chewed a wasp in the back, but her whole attitude was awful. Constantly saying it wasn’t their fault etc. Honestly the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced and it’s fair to say I won’t be returning.

both my daughter and her boyfriend got given food poisoning. Called staff to tell them and didn’t do anything about it and told me it might be the bottle of wine I drank😂

We visited last Saturday to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was delicious and well presented. The portion sizes were very generous. There was so much choice on the menu which made it hard to choose which dishes to order! Beautiful decor and attentive staff, we'll definitely go back.

What a beautiful spot to visit in West Bridgford. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the main strip, Uchi is perfectly located with a moderate footfall whilst also being able to provide immaculate service. The sushi pictured is just one of the beautiful, freshly prepared dishes we were fortunate enough to enjoy. What stunning presentation as well as fresh, mouth-watering tastes for an extremely reasonable price! We will be returning with great anticipation! Thank you Uchi

What delicious food! There’s a lot more than Sushi, in fact there’s quite a selection of food and all of it was delicious. I’m not a huge Sushi fan (the family are), but there was plenty of nin sushi options for me to choose from. Staff was lovely and great atmosphere and great value for money. We will definitely be returning again soon!

Restaurant was very nice inside. There were 8 of us in total. We preordered our food but when it came to them bringing it out, I waited 10 minutes or for the rice to the chicken I ordered. When I asked the waitress about this she seemed to take offence to me asking where my food was. She seemed miserable and like we were asking for the world when I was merely asking where my rice was (politely). She then told me I’d ordered wrong on the preorder which was incorrect. No sorry or anything. Massive lack of Customer service. As a result, I won’t be visiting again….

Loved the food and the smells from the kitchen were amazing. Service could do with a little more training as staff weren't up to scratch with what they were serving but the overall atmosphere was very relaxed with a bit of a buzz. I had the chocolate brownie with the blossom candyfloss and it was fabulous 👌 Would definitely visit again 😊

Very nice staff and service but good disappointed me a bit as I was waiting for the traditional bao buns which were ruined and made very poorly.... Because of food, I definitely wouldn't go back but I certainly would return because of the staff and the amazing service they provided, including a very delicous coffee....

Always love the Bento Box, such a good deal and variety. Great loyalty program too 👌 Slightly frustrating that they add the service charge to the bill instead of giving an option. Especially if I've nipped in for a quick bento box at lunch I don't feel like a tip is really necessary! Very american but can't complain.

Good food, service, and atmosphere. We had fillet grill, sushi, and ramen. The only thing that should be improved is the rice. The sushi was too soft that we couldn’t pick it up and it kept falling!! Overall, I like it and would recommend this.

A great Japanese place with lots of options for most pockets. Especially good value is the bento box that is served till 6.30. A great way to sample a bunch of the menu. Spoiler though, it's all good.

Excellent vegan sushi, separate vegan menu available with various options including noodle and curry dishes too. I had the Green Dragon speciality roll and it was delicious. Lots of flavour, interesting ingredients and really liked the tempura asparagus which I’ve never had before. Look forward to revisiting and trying more of the menu options.

Absolutely incredible Japanese food! Great menu choices, the atmosphere is very intimate and welcoming along with the wonderful waitstaff. We came here for my birthday and the lovely waitress overheard my family’s conversation about it and brought out a dessert for me of their own volition, and it was delicious! Very touched by the incredibly generous gesture. You absolutely have to go here if you love Japanese food!

Uchi has wonderful food and the staff are very friendly. We didn't feel bad asking about what some food was and the food was fresh and hot which was spot on. We have also had takeaway from here as we love the food options.

Food was amazing! Very delicious and authentic Japanese food. Totally recommend the beef nigiri! Really cool interior designs with Japanese music played. Seats were comfortable. Price was slightly more expensive than other Japanese restaurants but with the quality provided there’s nothing to complain!

Really disappointed that the Buy One get one half price Bento Box meant half the food too. I used to recommend here a lot but with the price increase and the small portions I won't be going back unfortunately

If you’re looking for Japanese food this side of the city, look no futher… This is not the bargain of the century however the food is extremely tasty and the restaurant itself is stunning with good vibes all around! My personal favourite eat in restaurant in these parts of the city 🙃

Very Overrated and underwhelming. We went there for their sushi / bento box. The bento box was reliable like always but sushi, even with 25% off wasn’t worth it. 1. Waitress got my order wrong, even though she had repeated what I had asked for. 2. No wasabi or soy sauce with my sushi. Not entirely sure if we had to order them but if so, it’s kind of ridiculous that wasabi isn’t complimentary of your sushi order… We probably won’t visit again. Plenty of other sushi places in Nottingham.

Very disappointing ! We ordered the party menu for 4 people. The portions were very small for the price. They brought 1 small bowl of steamed rice for 4 of us. The main dishes were very vegetable heavy especially onion and had very little meat in them. I expected to feel a lot more full for the price. Also was annoying eating off a small side plate.

Delicious food. And great atmosphere. Tried the tempura gyoza, sushi and the hot stone barbecue with wagyu beef.

Have been a big fan of the sister restaurant Yumacha so thought we would try out Uchi. Sadly the food was incredibly bland with little sauce on many of the dishes leaving you with nothing more than some breaded chicken. Very over priced for what you get. The service was ok but no one asked if we liked our meal and at the end the service charge was added automatically to the bill which personally I find quite rude. That's a personal preference and I would rather leave tips in cash for the actual staff or would at least appreciate being asked if I was happy to pay it if it is indeed optional as stated on the bill. Finally just a heads up the tables are really cramped together so you will know everything about the diners next to you however hard you try and tune them out by the end of night!

we arrived nobody saw us, we sat down , we waited 30 min jsut to get our drinks, then we finally place our food order, it took them ages !! Food was awful ! worse sushi place I've ever tried in my life especially for 80 pounds ( dinner for 2) and we barely ate anything it was for a special occasion my Fiancée birthday - I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!! you can eat even better a Wetherspoons for 30 pounds - save your money !!! Even the sushi at Asda are better made ! Awful place

We had the tasting menu which was tasty. The hot stone is different and it was good fun cooking sirloin on it. The tasting menu is good value.

I popped in here for some lunch. The waitress wasn't particularly friendly and made me feel really rushed. Customer service and atmosphere at a low. The bento box I ordered was the most pathetic I have ever seen, tiniest portion and nothing special or authentic about the flavours. The restaurant is Chinese own with Chinese staff, so if you're looking for authenticity this is not the place. The food was mediocre at best. I wouldn't visit again or recommend

Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit here and, to get an overall flavour of Uchi’s food, we both ordered the 7-course tasting menu, which was delicious. Service was entertaining too (thanks Harry) and the extensive cocktail menu was dipped into. Oh, and it’s very reasonably priced

Superb food. Only downside was that we were a bit hassled to leave our table after only 1 1/2 hours and with children that can be difficult.

Great food and cocktails; not cheap but worth the cost. Highly recommend the tempura in particular. EDIT: Have been back several times over the years and Uchi continues to be excellent!

Went for a birthday meal for our son, the cocktails were great as were the dragon sushi and tempura prawns.. the problem was the rest of the food was poor, katsu chicken, rice with pork far too sweet and spicy noodles someone had forgotten it was meant to be spicy ! Not as good as Wagamama and more expensive .. so overall not a great experience service was generally good .. but it does infuriate me when they start clearing plates away before someone has finished ! I won’t be going back

Came for dinner with my teenage children. The staff were really helpful about choices and quantities. Nothing was too much trouble. All the food was delicious. Thanks for a great night.

We had an extremely disappointing experience. This was a couple of months ago and still plays on my mind. We were happy with the food. Unfortunately, we were overcharged. The price on the menu was incorrect and the manager at the time rudely told us, we were being charged the “evening prices” despite arriving and starting the meal before the “evening time”. Furthermore, the manager rudely informed us those prices on the menu were”old prices” (why give us the menu with old prices was beyond me). She refused to do anything about that and basically just shrugged saying there was nothing she could do. It is not about the extra money, it is about the false advertising (I’m expected to be charged the price shown on the menu provided by the restaurant) and taking no accountability. They had three different prices: the paper menu they showed us (from which we ordered and discussed the menu with a waitress), a la carte menu and their website (they have amended the prices since on their website). That experience just ruined it for us and despite enjoying the meal, just don’t want to go to a place where I felt scammed.

PSA: hands down the best salmon I’ve had in a while (in fact, probably ever!). Sake salmon sashimi. Everyone needs to try it. You won’t regret it! The Wagyu beef sushi was a close second and spicy tuna futomaki a third). Washed down with popcorn green tea. 🤤

Visited uchi for a 21st birthday meal. Food looked beautiful and tasted just as amazing. Staff were so friendly and attentive they bought out a dessert at the end with candles for the birthday boy without us even asking, so thoughtful! Lots of cocktails to choose from to go with your meal! Can't wait to return.
