Ok and good but not stellar. Despite the name the menu looks like British cuisine (apart from pasta which is good) Go if you're in the area

Honestly, exactly how restaurants should be. Small menu of things done really well. Plenty of staff who were very friendly & polite. Restaurant buzzing. Obviously the pasta is amazing but I’d happily snack on the sourdough and salami every day (with a lemon tart on the side).

Excellent food, great service and nice ambience. We had the carpaccio and lamb confit to start and the beef shin ragu and taglieri with crab for our mains. We finished with a panna cota and the nespole, which were amazing. The prices are also very reasonable with just the right portion sizes.

The resto should be incredibly proud of the dishes they’re putting out. Top to bottom phenomenal work between the top class pastas and the meats were fantastic and inventive. There’s a reason they’ve been open so many years.

I went with my parents last Tuesday there. After a light starter (sourdough, which was really good and olives), we shared two pastas, both of them were exquisite, specially the Pici which it was fantastic. Finished the meal sharing a T-bone with polenta (which we have never tried). The T-bone was perfectly cooked and the polenta very tasty with the gorgonzola fonduta. Also, staff is very attentive and make you feel special all along the dinner. Just a small negative thing, the places it's a bit dark which creates an intimate atmosphere, but if your table is not under a lamp can be a bit too dark. Other than that, great experience. Would highly recommend it to anyone

Such an unexpected treat after wandering the grounds of hybrid and taking in several miles of the area. We were worried because we didn’t have a reservation, but they managed to squeeze us in and as each dish arrived, tastebuds celebrated the freshness and carefully layered flavors. Though everything was outstanding, most memorable were the butter leaf salad with mint, broad beans and salted ricotta, the fennel and Jerusalem artichoke dish, and the cuttlefish ragu pasta, the flavors still linger on the palate. The sweet finishes of the lemon tart and roasted loquats with praline and crème sauce were the perfect culmination of the meal. Can’t say enough-the restaurant was cozy, romantic, and the staff were perfectly attentive, competent and lovely. Highly recommend making the trip to this little spot.

A lovely dining experience at Trullo. The menu was varied and with plenty of wine by the glass to accompany. We enjoyed the quail with 'nduja and the chicory, beetroot & walnut salad to start, and then delicious pasta mains of chicken livers with sage and marsala, and crab with chilli and lemon. A nicely proportioned cheese plate rounded off the meal.

This is a really decent Italian restaurant. We came for our anniversary and it was a nice touch when they gave us a printed menu with happy anniversary on it. All in all the service was attentive and friendly until some awkwardness towards the end of the meal. The small plates were tasty but not the best flavour combinations I've had. However the ragu was excellent and my partner had Eel Ravioli and it was well cooked. It was all very good but probably not outstanding for the pricing. This may be that it's a victim of its own success and is somewhere that's been hyped up to us so we were expecting more. I've recently eaten at Flour and Grape and manteca which have a similar offering and while Trullo is a head and shoulders above manteca in terms of flavour, I'd say it's menu and quality isn't to far removed from Flour & Grape despite being a bit pricier. Unfortunately, the experience was ruined for us due to our 1 hr 30mins being up at our table. This information was shared at the time of booking but we ate fairly quickly and only managed 2 courses during that time. We didn't drink any alcohol due to being sober so as you can imagine it wasn't as if we were dilly dallying eating our meals. The staff were apologetic that we had to leave but all in all the experience was awkward and ruined our special meal as we felt rushed and couldn't order dessert. In all fairness, they offered to move us to the bar for dessert but we felt uncomfortable and just wanted to leave by then, because I could see a senior staff member get annoyed at our waiter for not moving us along in the background. I'd like to emphasise that the staff are lovely but 1hr 30mins somehow ended up being not enough time to order and eat 2 courses and it shouldn't have been a responsibility that we had to shoulder. Is this restaurants priority to get as many bums on seats in a short space of time or is it to create beautiful dishes and authentic experiences that create memories for its diners?

To start: we had a good meal. However given the prices you would expect to have more than ‘good’, rather an exceptional service and amazing food. This was not our experience. It was very informal which is not necessarily wrong but paper table cloth? The waiting times were long and the lamb tasted too wild. All in all ok, heavy on the wallet!

An Italian restaurant near Highbury & Islington Station, with freshly made pasta that you can see them make on the outside left window. Their lunch and dinner menus update daily, but Beef Shin Ragu is usually a regular dish that they have and known for. I tried the beef shin ragu many times in the past and the quality is consistently good. You may need to book a table for dinner but usually you will get a table walking in for lunch.

Lost count of the times we’ve been here. Sometimes it’s amazing, some times it’s just very very good. We predictably have the ragu pappardelle, fish is always perfect, and the Amalfi lemon tart is a must - concentrated lemon flavours out of this world. The only bum note ever was an arancino that didn’t really taste of the promised smoked eel. Service is lovely, atmosphere great.

Good but not incredible food. After 45 minutes ours starters finally came . They were fine , small portions as expected but still a bit mean. As four people sharing dishes it’s odd to serve three crostini with a dish! I asked however for one more crostini and they gave us another full portion which made up for it. Monkfish Carpaccio was the tiniest portion and barely half a mouthful each. At 16.50 this felt like a rip off. We ordered two different pasta dishes which were all very over salted almost to the point of being inedible which was a shame. We didn’t complain as we were on a celebration evening and didn’t want to affect the atmosphere. Delays in the service meant we were late in finishing our meal and got rushed to order desserts etc before having to vacate our table. They did however strike off the cost of the desserts in acknowledgment even though we had not complained . Possibly they were having an off night. Overpriced but that’s not unusual in London !

Maybe we picked wrong but we expected so much more from our trullo experience since we’d heard so many great things. My wife and I opted for the ribeye steak to share. The menu states it can be shared between 2-3 people. Had there been 3 of us I definitely would have still been hungry. Picking the most experience dish on the menu (£98) I did expect a bit better value. Perhaps it ought to come with chips if you’re suggesting it feeds max 3 people. We didn’t think it was great quality and if you compare it other notable steak restaurants, it just wasn’t as good. Especially when you consider the actual meat on this steak (it comes on the bone) vs a ribeye off the bone from another steak restaurant. I think our steak was c870g, and my guess is half of this weight was bone. The tables are just too close to one another and it did feel like the staff couldn’t keep up since we had to ask for our bill twice and wait over 15 mins. Like I say, maybe we chose wrong but I did expect more from their most premium dish

I am really disappointed. I've been here before, a couple of years ago, and it was great. This time around, I don't know, it just seems that they're not that consistent. The eel arancini was one arancino, didn't taste like eel, or anything else for that matter, and, like most of the food, was under seasoned. The quail was good, but nothing special really. The ragu was under seasoned, and the ravioli was unevenly formed, not in a rustic kind of way. The gnocchi was great. Probably my favorite dish of the evening. Well seasoned and flavorful. Service was excellent as well, fast and attentive.

(This review will be very long and very very honest): So, we finally made it to Trullo after ages of planning, reading their cookbook, and even trying their sister restaurant Padella (actually, both in Shoreditch & Borough Market). Let me tell you, the wait was totally worth it! Trullo turned out to be an Italian food paradise right in London. Cod cheeks as a starter was like a culinary masterpiece that etched itself into my memory forever. The flavors, the texture – everything was just perfect. Salami and eel arancini were mouthwatering as well so we almost didn't want to move on to the main course because we wanted to savor that moment forever. The pork chop with those amazing beans was a match made in food heaven. It was cooked to perfection – tender, juicy, and full of flavor. And those beans, oh boy, they were like little bursts of goodness on the plate. Then there was the pasta with beef ragu. It was a comforting, hearty dish that felt like a warm hug on a plate. The beef ragu was rich and savory, clinging to the perfectly cooked pasta. It was the kind of dish that makes you close your eyes and savor every mouthful. And now, let me tell you about the tiramisu. If you thought you've had good tiramisu before, think again. Trullo's tiramisu was a game-changer, a dessert experience like nowhere else in London. The layers of mascarpone cheese were velvety and smooth, perfectly balanced with the coffee-soaked ladyfingers. It was decadent without being overly sweet, and every spoonful was pure bliss. Oh, and the atmosphere! Trullo had this cozy yet lively vibe that made the whole experience even better. The staff were friendly, and there was this wonderful buzz in the air. Plus, there's something about enjoying a fantastic meal that's just so satisfying, you know? So, there you have it – Trullo, where dreams of Italian food come true! I will be back very soon, even its a bit too far..

I have lived in this neighbourhood for years but this is the first time I have dined at Trullo. Despite its location on a busy road it provides an unexpectedly intimate setting and the food is really quite superb with surprisingly generous portions. At a time when many restaurants seem to be using the economic climate as an excuse to cut corners, Trullo is holding the line in quality and quantity. There is a reason why this is one of the great survivors of the Islington restaurant scene.

Birthday celebration for 6 started with the news that if we wanted to eat some birthday cake we’d be charged £2 per person… a first for me. The atmosphere was great, busy for a Wednesday even in London so my hopes were high. The smoked eel arancini starter was the highlight of the evening as it turned out to be more substantial that my rather child size portion of fettuccine with garlic and mushrooms which took over an hour to arrive lukewarm at best and only after a nudge from one of our party. The staff were attentive and perhaps I should have spoken up at the time ( reluctant to ruin my daughter’s evening) but instead I just want to let them know that I could not recommend this place based on that evening. Many of the courses seem very over- priced too.

The food was stunning and the service even better, our waitress was super knowledgeable and helpful throughout. The food was very tasty, elegant and simple, just as Italian food should be. The menu was small and given how good the ragu parpafelle was I just wish they offered a few more options so there was more to try! We had been wanting to come here for a while, but our experience was very disappointing in the end. We ordered a mix of starters, which were all lovely. Unfortunately, the main issue came when I found a very suspect short hair in my pasta halfway through my meal. I politely and quietly pointed this out to our waiter, who removed the dish from the bill. What was then very frustrating is that my partner (who was facing the kitchen) received continuous bad looks from the head chef, which seems entirely unprofessional. It would have been more appropriate for the chef and staff to apologise properly and offer an alternative main course on the house. I would like to highlight that the serving staff were great. Our waiter was very attentive, despite it being a busy Friday. However, my one star review reflects the fact that this is an expensive and high-end restaurant where the food quality and hygiene standards were embarrassingly poor and ruined our evening. In the end, we paid £80 only to leave nauseated by the unsanitary food that completely ruined our evening.

Accessability: There's a step at the entrance of the restaurant. Two floors with steps/stairs leading down. I don't think a wheelchair user would be able to enter the restaurant at the ground level. Someone who may have a disability where they're able to walk upright (maybe using a cane/crutches) might find navigating the space tricky, but could be doable. It's dimly lit, for those visually impaired. I would suggest the resto highlighting those little steps inside that could easily be missed by anyone, but especially those with visual limitations. Went a few weeks ago with my sisters. We ordered a bunch of different plates to share. They have some Halal options, definetly ask in person. Pasta: The beef shin, crab pasta and cheese curd ravioli (i could be getting the latter wrong, it was the 'special') -The crab pasta was the winner - a perfect summer dish. Antipasti: Arancini, monkfish carpaccio and burrata. -The arancini and burrata were nice, but can you ever go wrong with those two? -The monkfish had olive oil drizzled over, which we found a tad too strong and overpowering - sadly we weren't big fans of that. Cheese: A little dissapointing considering the price and size. we've had bigger portions for the same price elsewhere. The cheese were tasty and the jelly was great. Service: The young guy with the braids who was managing our table was great. Informative and friendly. He informed us on what was Halal and made sure he steered us in the right direction. Only real issue I have was when we entered is that I told the foh person that it was my sisters birthday so it would be great if you made it special for her. he in an attempt to be positively reassuring brushed me off. i had chosen the 'birthday' option when making the resy, already. we had to tell out waiter that it was my sisters bday which ruined the whole surprise dessert because we couldn't wait any longer at this point. he had no idea, to no fault of his own. he brought out some ice-cream for her which was appreciated of course. I did express my dissapointment when we paid the bill because it feels counterproductive to choose the birthday option if we're going to have to ask for it in person, in front of the recipient. the waitress was apologetic and understanding (it wasn't her fault) but i think it's one of those small details restaurants need to work on. Ive experienced it time and time again. don't have the bday option if you're going to provide nothing for your customer. Mr 'brush off' shouldn't be in such a hurry to say " i know i know" if he isn't going to let his team know what he knows, you know? A great restuarant though. Will be back!

Waited a while to go here. Nice food, but we felt nothing to write home about. Overpriced venison, we had 4 small slices of the carpaccio and the pasta was lukewarm, verging on cold. Which was a shame as the ragu was delicious. The maître d’ was nice upon arrival, but the service from the 2 wait staff following being seated was just plain awkward, struggling to raise a smile. We arrived close to the end of service which resulted in us being rushed to order, and although I understand the team need to eat and probably wanted us gone, it would have been nice to feel slightly more welcomed. Unfortunately probably wouldn’t return.

As other people have said the portion sizes are very small for the price and the food is average. Our real problem however was the turbot. We ordered the turbot to share and it was so salty it was inedible. When we sent it back we were told that the chef had tried it and thought it was fine. They also explained that “meatier fish are saltier than normal fish” - seriously!?!? We have eaten in some amazing restaurants round the world and have had meaty fish on many occasions never have they been so salty they are inedible! They did take the turbot off the bill which they explained like we should feel lucky - I wouldn’t expect to pay for something we had 4 mouthfuls of between us. Will never go back and would not dream of recommending to anyone!

Overpriced and unperformed. We got two different pastas both of which had little to no flavor and were extremely small portions. I was still hungry after eating, but didn’t think getting anything else on the menu would be worth it as both things we had already had were not good. I make much better pasta and sauce at home which I will do from now on.

If I could give the service here 6 stars, I would. Every time we go to Trullo we get treated like royalty. The staff are incredibly thoughtful and really try to make you feel special as a guest. The food also happens to be top notch. Highly recommend this gem in East London.

We tried the arancini, venison carpaccio, ragu and lemon pasta. All of the dishes were good. But the service was extremely slow. Also, the portions were quite small so make sure you order a bit more than you normally would if you are hungry. I had no idea they had a basement. It was a bit disappointing to not sit at the main room. Overall, it’s decent but nothing special.

I've been 3 times now, over the course of about a year. I really want to love this place because the food is actually lovely and the location is perfect. Unfortunately I seem to have terrible luck. Order water, pour it ourselves. Order moderately expensive wine (over £150) pour it ourselves. Order multiple courses, no one ever asks if the food is ok. Ask for the bill, pay it and they silently walk away. It's odd because all three times, the tables near us got great service from all staff members. I'm sure that this place could easily be my local favourite, but I just never feel welcome when I come by. Sadly, third time was not a charm. I'll miss their amazing pasta, but I refuse to pay upmarket prices for Nandos service.

High quality Italian restaurant! The pasta and the lamb were really tasty and well cooked. Fair portions. The atmosphere was nice! I would say perfect for a date even though there were also big groups of people. Staff were friendly and attentive. The only thing I missed was more Air Conditioning but we went on a heat wave. I would recommend it!

I thought this was meant to be an Italian or maybe Puglian inspired restaurant but turns out chefs are British and New Zealand and owners might be Irish? Certainly no resemblance to Italian food that I know nor could I say even good British! Waiting staff although quite sweet really seemed in a hurry to feed us and get us out as there were queues. They brought a carafe of water but no ice or lemon in the glasses (on hottest day of the year). No bread available except what they call Foccacia (I would not). Pasta disapointing, similar texture to tinned spaghetti hoops, and very little for vegans and vegetarians and not much for pescatarians. Waiting staff were quite sweet and tried hard but overall I think this is a case of "The Emporer's New Clothes" ie. everyone raving about this wonderful restaurant which is mediocre at best . We only had beer but I could not find any organic wine on the list which is almost a pre-requisite in decent restaurants these days. Also toilets were dirty and uncomfortable and it was still quite early.

Really lovely place for quality Italian food. We booked last minute so had a late sitting but didn’t feel at all rushed. Everything was great - the atmosphere, the food (especially the pasta dishes), the service - our waitress could clearly see we were struggling with our whole mackerel so came over to give us some tips, which was much appreciated! Will definitely be back with friends to try more of the menu.

I’m happy to pay a lot for tasty food, but I’m not happy to leave the restaurant feeling hungry - I don’t eat much but even after starter, main and dessert I wasn’t satisfied. Otherwise the food was very tasty, arancini reminded me of my nonna’s.
