Wow what an amazing meal we all enjoyed .Mussels & Lobster ravioli then triamu trio of sweets , bottle of wine.All our meals were so tasty Congratulations to all staff very welcoming. Chef brilliant.

Chicken kiev was very nice as was my wife's lasagne but wasn't keen on the bright decor and felt the food was missing the wow factor it had when Rino owned it. Very average now but worth a visit

Visited with friends last night for the first time since hospitality reopened. A warm welcome awaited us & the food was superb as ever. There’s a lways a lovely atmosphere at Toscas & last night Emma’s no exception. Keep up the good work Paul & all your staff.

Me and my husband went here for his birthday and we couldn't fault a thing. Food was delivered hot and we didn't have to wait to long. It was reasonably priced and the quality was fantastic. The waitress was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. The highlight for me was the sticky toffee pudding oh my days unreal. We will definitely be back soon.

Great service from friendly staff. The food is gorgeous, my favourite is their Chicken Imperial. Love the variety and taste of the vegetables served with the mains. They have Italian lager on draught - what more can you ask for?

I’ve been to this restaurant once before and loved it so naturally we went back for this government eat out to help out scheme. I’m not one to complain so I didn’t at the time but the seafood in my linguine was disgusting and chewy, my boyfriend said his was mediocre, I get that they were busy so left it. It was al I ate yesterday and now I have severe stomach cramps and vomiting, and to make it worse, we were deffo over charged but you couldn’t tell as their bill was written on. £35 when mine and my partners food was £15 each, both should be half price so £15 all together plus a small wine, morretti, a lime and soda and a coke (shouldn’t be £20). As it’s made me sick I wouldn’t go back, the younger ladies out front however were lovely.

It had been a long time since I'd last visited Tosca and I have to say I was pleasantly pleased. Good food, good service will definitely revisit with the wife.

We have been frequent visitors to Tosca for over twenty years, and this is my second review of the restaurant.This occasion was to celebrate my son's birthday, which both kids consider an unmissable part of their celebrations. In fact, we have spent every 'birthday tea' at Tosca's since they were born.The staff were wonderfully warm and friendly, and made my son really feel special. Their rendition of 'Happy Birthday ' was lovely and his face was a picture.But enough of the staff, you want to hear about the food, I know.We had a range of meals, from garlic bread and pizzas, to chicken and lasagne, all of which were cooked to perfection. (We have never had a poor meal here)The orders were brought to the table promptly and piping hot.The parmesan cheese as left on the table for us to use as we wished, rather than a meagre spoonful being scattered over our food and whisked away like some other restaurants we have visited.My chicken dish was cooked beautifully and melted in the mouth. No chewy or gristly pieces, and the peppercorn sauce was not too 'spicy hot'.My husband's lasagne was piping hot and delicious as always, and a generous sized portion.The pizzas are all hand made to order and cooked perfectly. The kids scoffed the lot!Free coffee refills after our meal and a complimentary 'birthday ice cream' were a very kind, and much appreciated extra.The prices of the food are very reasonable too.This venue is perfect for a whole host of evenings out, from a birthday tea to a night out before the theatre. It ticks every box on the our list!

Been going to this restraunt for many many years. The staff are very friendly and greet you as if your family. The food is outstanding. There's a good choice on the happy hour menu, hot n cold starters and garlic breads, pastas, pizza, chicken there's something for everyone. The Al acarte menu includes fillet steak, prawns and daily specials. Definitely worth a visit.

A regular eating place for us, the atmosphere is relaxed and warm. Staff very friendly and welcoming, and food is good and inexpensive

Mid-week family visit when on holiday. Rustic environment, nothing that a lick of paint wouldn't cure. However staff not generally not interested in what I was ordering. Menu was basic UK adapted Italian. We ordered Muscles (wine/garlic) - very bland. Also the chicken Milanese didn't come with any napoli sauce (so basically dried deep fried chicken in breadcrumbs) - had to order the sauce seperatly (at cost). The restaurant would also not swap out chips with spaghetti - how unaccommodating. Only saving thing was the home double cooked (I presume) chips were nice to accompany my chicken/white wine main.

We booked a table for 14 to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary with friends and family. We were offered the opportunity to consider ordering meals in advance, but decided not to. You'd think that would slow down service on the night, but it didn't at all. Despite being a staff member down, the Tosca team didn't miss a beat. Starters, main courses, sharing garlic breads and after dinner coffees all arrived piping hot, quickly and with a smile. Dinner washed down with their delicious house red and white. As usual, the atmosphere was lively and friendly. Many of our party hadn't been here before, and without exception, they were full of praise for the food and the service. Even though we were a large table, and even though they were short of people and they were working their socks off with a full restaurant, when two of our party asked for the Linguini Mama (vegetarian dish) to be served vegan (without cream sauce), this was done without any hesitation. THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is service!

It's been a while...too long! but we were not disappointed everything 'Tosca' was perfect, the welcome, service and seating, our order came in good time and presented well, the staff were attentive and this all makes a good eating experience, I'm sure we will not leave it so long for our next visit.

My friend recommended here for a catch up meal. The restaurant isn't huge inside but it didn't feel like everyone was sitting on top of each other which can happen in other restaurant. I noticed there was an extra charge for Gluten Free pasta which I personally don't like but many restaurants now charge especially as it is a dietary requirement. The potato skins to start were nice but not a huge portion. I had gluten free pasta bolognese which was nice but slightly too salty but that is personally taste. We ordered dessert and I asked which they could make gluten free and he asked the kitchen and came back and gave me a definite answer which was great. Dessert was creme brulee which was nice.

This is our favourite Italian restaurant. Been coming here for years with family and friends. The food is delicious, the atomosphere is fun, and the staff are so friendly and welcoming.

Been visiting this restaurant for years now and food and service always been first class. Visited last night for pre theatre meal and got to say staff were very attentive, always make you feel welcome and food was beautiful, had 3 courses each and we both thoroughly enjoyed every dish. You must try the desserts, always a good selection and are all delicious.

This is my favourite Italian restaurant by far!! Food amazing, staff friendly and attentive, service always fab. But what I love the most is that on things like valentine's day they don't hike prices and put posh unappealing menus on they stick with what they do best which is the finest authentic Italian food at great prices. Always gona be my first choice!!

My husband and myself met with my sister and brother in law for lunch at Tosca. We choose the restaurant as there are so few genuine Italian family run restaurants in the City. The atmosphere was warm and cosy trattatoria in modern style, the service excellent. We chose either gamberoni or fish dishes all were perfect . However the highlight of the meal was the desserts, all home made. My husband jokingly asked for Zabaglione which was not on the menue. The owner obligingly offered to make the dish for us which we jumped at, it is rarely offered in Italy now let alone in the Northeast.

Been going to Tosca’s for 30+ years. Always been excellent. Can not speak highly enough of the staff from the owners Rino and Marie to Nora, Michelle, Jamie , Terry and everyone else who works there. The food is always high class. My daughter does not eat cheese or cream and theywill adapt any meal on the menu to suit her, above and beyond. We eat here at least 3 times a month and have never had a problem. Absolutely fabulous.

My husband and I are regular patrons of this lovely family owned restaurant. We absolutely love coming here as the staff are so welcoming and the home made food always delicious. We have sampled most of the food on the extensive menus and a favourite of mine is steak Bellini from the special menu list. My husband has many favourites and penne romano, another from the specials, is one of his favourite meals. We love the hospitality provided by the owners and their tentative staff, who are second to none. We look forward to coming here at least every 2 weeks. Many thanks to you all. We look forward to seeing you soon. Same now as it was the very first time we visited.

Visited tosca in sunderland with the hubby we had been few times before and also found food really good . I had pate which was tasteless an d dry. hubby had prawn cocktail overload on salad then i decided on chicken kiev and chips chicken tasted nice but plate was swimming in oil hubby had pasta carbonara he said wasnt very creamy i did notice that parmesan cheese that waiter put on my husbands meal was used then just left out uncovered on surrounding shelf near us not very hygienic this was used also for other customers thought it mite been better returned kitchen after use. not once were we asked if meal was fine or did we want more drinks we decided to get coffee at end. irish coffee was worst I've seen cream on top was so thick u needed spoon that got sent bck and I got espresso with what only can be described as thick chunck cream on top we were going to try the dessert but by then i think we had decided it probably wouldn't have been good bill was £60 quid i don't think it was value for money service also wasnt to standard big let down as we have been before but we won't return

Just lovely food, backed-up by fab service. I simply can't fault anything about Tosca's. Excellent menu and the genuine home-made desserts are superb.

First visited this restaurant when it was in Fawcett Street in the 1970s. Still owned by Reno and his family and still my favourite Italian restaurant in Sunderland. Lovely friendly, welcoming atmosphere, attentive staff, and great food. Love all the chicken dishes, and the pasta dishes and the desserts are pretty good too, particularly the trio of desserts. Would highly recommend.

Food was very good. Seafood fresh and perfectly cooked. The atmosphere is busy but staff leave nothing to chance. Very attentative. Price very competitive and generally worth every penny.

I visited prior to attending the final performance of Miss Saigon at the Empire Theatre. It doesn't overlook the theatre, but is only a few minutes walk away and also near my hotel, the local Premier Inn.

Always eat here when up in Sunderland to go to the theatre tonight is Miss Saigon so looking forward to this, food here is always good and a friendly atmosphere great chose

We have visited this restaurant for the last 25 years and the food has always been very nice.

First time here. We walked in on Wednesday night without a reservation. We were given a table straight away. I had steak and chips and my husband had chicken and chips. Cooked beautifully. Chips are homemade and accompanying sauces were lovely. Bottle of house red was nice too. Then we ordered cheesecake with chocolate ganache and hazelnut ice cream. It was all delicious. Staff were lovely too. Had a chat with the owners son. His dad is the head chef. We will definitely be back.

Hadn't been to Tosca for several years. it used to be a regular place to eat back in the day. Very pleased to confirm that standards are still high. Family meal for 3 with starters and mains plus 2 large wines and soft drinks for under £50. The only thing I would change was that my chicken dish had a little too much oil for my personal taste, but this didn't detract from the overall quality and taste of the meal itself. Service was quick and friendly. Hopefully we won't leave it as long until our next visit.

Love going here, great atmosphere, friendly staff. Always good food, the family have always kept the prices reasonable and along with all of the above that’s the reason it’s always busy! It’s nice to see a family business do well! I have been going there for quite a few years now, and whether it’s a date night, catch up with friends or a night out with work. The food here is incredible! friendly and efficient service, the staff were very helpful and attentive, wonderful ambience, all made this a fantastic dining experience, ideal for intimate dinners or family celebrations, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!

One of the very few authentic Italian restaurants left. All of the food is wonderful, but my personal favourite is the lasagne. It doesn't taste like any lasagne you'll have ever had and is absolutely gorgeous.

Consistently class little gaff this. Every time we go everything is always the same quality. The sauce always exactly how we want it, pizza dough always the same. Always consistent and that’s how you become a regular customer. We love it. Can’t wait to go back

Food has a depth Of flavour not usually achieved by other restaurants in the city. This comes from the owners taste and knowledge. This is our go too restaurant for entertaining, Romantic or even family. A real diamond in the rough. Also very consistent and does not try to be something it’s not. Very fairly priced too. Quality quality quality is the name of the game in this wonderful restaurant

Found this restaurant on TripAdvisor when we were planning a trip to the Empire Theatre to see Wicked on Saturday evening. Although it was busy they found us a table but made it clear that they needed it back for seven o'clock. As we arrived at half five that was no problem.

Initial restaurant visited had a wait for the table so happened to find this place through here... was more than happy with the service as they found us a table in the already busy restaurant busy with birthdays, couples & friends on a Saturday night.

Good menu choices, excellent service, well prepared and presented food served with good quality and reasonably priced wine helped us to celebrate a 60th birthday. £105 for 4 with 3 bottles of wine. Excellent value.👍

Tosca is my favourite Italian restaurant in Sunderland. The staff and service is always fantastic and the food is just amazing(I’ve NEVER been disappointed!). It is a small and cosy restaurant and thats why the atmosphere is always warm and welcoming.

We had our first visit about a year ago which was recommended by friends. Been back again with them and twice on our own, the second time being tonight and we were not disappontened. The food was lovely and staff very attentive (which from what I hear is family run business and possibly makes a difference). I am veggie and love the goats cheese pasta and clear my plate which is rare for me. My husband also enjoyed his three course of calamari, tagleatelle rustica and homemade chocolate torte. Will be back.

In my opinion this is by far the best Italian in Sunderland. We have been visiting for years and never had a bad meal. Beautiful tasty food portions are huge and excellent service.

Having recently been diagnosed with a diary allergy, going out for meals can now be a little stressful. However upon arrival the waitress consulted with the chef and gave me a separate menu which stated which meals had milk in. There wasn’t a lot for me to choose from and a couple of my favourite dishes I can’t have now. However, the staff were very attentive and helpful and I managed to enjoy a delicious chicken dish with vegetables. Celebrating my husband’s birthday was a wonderful night!!

I always either get the Gamberoni with the Aglio sauce for starter or the mussels inferno and they’re always absolutely amazing!! The fillets are delicious and always cooked perfectly. Can not recommend this place enough the foods always spot on. Lovely atmosphere aswell x

Visited at 7pm on a Saturday evening the place was busy with walk ins as well as prebooked tables. Very reasonably priced two starters, two mains, a sharing dessert and a bottle of pink prosecco for just over £50. We will be back.

We are now regular customers of this wonderful restaurant. Once again both staff and food were fantastic. We feel totally at home when we're in this restaurant. The staff cannot fail to impress you, attentive at all times without being overpowering. All food is of a high standard and served well. We're looking forward to our next meal.

Meal and staff were at their usual best. With my wife and we shared a garlic bread then both had chicken Giorgio which is a house special ( chicken Kiev with extra garlic,cheese and tomato) . The Kiev was class and the veg spot on. We shared the trio of sweets and a selection of ice cream which were really nice. Great night!

I have eaten here for years the food is absolutely fantastic however my last few visits have left me feeling a little disappointed. We have a meal and plenty of drinks. Tonight we were moved tables as a big table came in the waitress told us she regretted sitting us there as we are always slow to leave then we were given our bill before we asked for it. Pretty much saying your welcome to stay !! Then no your not. The waitress (owners daughter then walked past the table twice and looked to see if we had paid. Again as I said fantastic food I can't fault it but left feeling a little disappointed hence the low rating. I ran pubs for years I'd like to think I valued all my customers

We visited this restaurant last night. It was a little bit late but we were correctly served . The food was stunning. The service was perfect. They have normal prices in comparison with others in Sunderland. So, definitely we'll come back.

We visited on a busy Friday night and had a great meal. I had special soup starter and my wife had salmon. For main I had lemon sole and my wife had lobster ravioli. Everything was really well presented and cooked to perfection. With drinks the bill was only £45. Definitely recommend Tosca.

Having not visited Toscas for a number of years we have fallen in love with this restaurant again recently and the food is as amazing, if not better, than it always was. Really rustic inside, the smell of the cooking, the candlelit tables really make it a romantic place for couples as well as great value food for families. Myself and my husband highly recommend booking a table here, you won't be disappointed.

Visited here with some friends for an evening meal after work. Haven't been in a long time ss rarely in Sunderland now. We were seen straight to our table. Car park opposite park lane is free after 6 and less than a 5 minute walk. The girl who served us was really friendly and nice. I had king prawns in lemon and garlic for starters and amtraciana for mains. Both dishes were delicious and all 3 of us had a lovely evening.

We visit this restaurant on a regular basis - usually about once every 6-8 weeks... latest visit was a couple of weeks ago. It is always a good night - food, service & atmosphere - in fact everything is always good.... therefore we always go here for a great night & great food.

We have been coming here for years whether it's for a meal at lunch time whilst in town or an evening meal. The service and food is always excellent, we have tried many other places but Tosca is definitely always the one place we end up coming back to.

Hidden away near the bus terminus in Park Lane is a little gem. Food first class served by attentive staff. You can always tell a good popular restaurant when it's busy early doors on a Saturday tea time. Thank you. Compliments to Terry behind the bar, she must have finished her YTS by now. So glad we walked down this street and found Tosca. The meal was delicious and even my very fussy 12 year old daughter said it was one of her most favourite meals. The staff were lovely. Attentive and friendly just at the right time. Great wines and fab prices. Hope we get into the great north run next year so we can come and load up on pasta again. Delicious xxxx

We were staying in the city ahead of doing the Great North Run. We wondered the streets of Sunderland on a Saturday night (interesting in its own right) and happened to stumble upon Tosca. What an absolute treasure of a place. The staff couldn't do enough for us, amongst the friendliest I have encountered. The prices were unbelievably reasonable. The food and wine was exceptional. I would highly recommend this place and will definitely be looking up this place when I'm next in the city

Yet another amazing meal at this fabulous family restaurant, my hubby and I brought my parents before we went on holiday and everything was first class. I had the avocado prawns to start and it was so good, hubby had fishcakes and they were unbelievable! We had fillet steaks, lasagne and chicken kiev for mains and we all cleared our plates. We all love the staff as they are so friendly and attentive. I read a review where someone gave 1* simply because the staff accidently got the prices wrong, a refund was given, that review had no reflection on the quality of the food! I'd happily pay double for the quality of the food, wine and staff here! Also thank you to the kitchen who made my dad fried eggs with his fillet steak!

Went as a group of 18 to celebrate my nephews recent engagement and as always the service and food were fantastic. Fast efficient and welcoming a really lovely place to come together for any family occasion. Thank you everyone at Tosca.
